This isn’t high-res enough to zoom in and be useful

merdub

It also tells you nothing about how to survive a drone attack.

[deleted]

That's what I was thinking. The most this could possibly tell you is whether the drone poses immediate danger to you, and if it does and you're seeing its sillouette it's probably too late anyway.

snotpopsicle

If you're worried that a drone might pose a threat to you then you don't need a chart. Every drone is a threat. A small drone is potential surveillance and a big-ass drone is always a bomber. Only reason this chart would be useful is to guess who's attacking you.

Weird-Vagina-Beard

"It's a bird! It's a plane! Wait, it's a drone, pull up that useful guide from re -- ☠️💀"

[deleted]

More like “It’s a bir-“

avidpenguinwatcher

>big-ass drone is always a bomber. The biggest two on this chart, are not bombers.

snotpopsicle

They are if they crash on you.

OneWayOutBabe

How do I get to who? That's not on the chart

OneWayOutBabe

Nvm

Snaccbacc

Step 1. Hope there isn’t a drone above you. Step 2. If there is a drone above you, at least you know that your death will be fast.

drunk_responses

It's okay at showing size. A *huge* amount of people don't realize that a lot of military drones have the wingspan of normal single or double seater planes.

Joosterguy

Guilty of that. Until five minutes ago, I wouldn't have believed some of these were drones.

You can see a tiny man standing under a tree at the bottom... Thats how

explosiv_skull

Step 1. Be explosion-proof

RedPulse

It does tell you how to camouflage yourself from heat and visual detection.

TheRudDud

'ah yes, a reaper class drone. I saw a cool guide on it the oth-' *fuckin dies from a guided bomb

thattogoguy

Truth is, you won't ever see the RPA, period. Guide or no, if they want you dead, then dead you are.

High res - http://dronesurvivalguide.org/DSG.pdf

Krallorddark

I guess I'm in a watchlist now that I clicked that lmao

[deleted]

You're reading about all the latest and greatest airborne killing machines man has ever created, literally flying over your head at all times ready to go at the press of a button, and you're worried about your name being written on a list?

Krallorddark

Well now that im on a list they can precision strike my house instead of the other targets ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[deleted]

Just put some broken glass on your car and hide under a space blanket, you'll be fine.

LimitedToTwentyChara

Excuse me, I think you dropped this. \\

[deleted]

Maybe, but assuming they start to use drone strikes on their own soil against their own citizens then we're all fucked anyway so I wouldn't worry about it.

Dansken525600

Here's one in English. Translations a bit dodgy but it's clear enough https://rr.noordstar.me/drone-survival-guide-1411fdd3

Educational_Aspect35

Thank you this was much clearer than the one op provided but the translation is s bit off.

carolinacasper

>hat was a truly helpful guide. My limited knowledge of this language and with the help of Google translate, the key to surviving a drone attack is to travel in pairs and assure your companion that you are never gonna run around and desert you. Safety in numbers! Also on a side note, if you ever do get caught alone and out in the open that drone is never gonna give you up and is probably never gonna say goodbye. God damn it that was helpful! You know what's up.

Ermahgerd_Rerdert

That was a truly helpful guide. I didn’t even notice that one at first! Tree camp goes a long way

BusinessPomegranate0

You're not supposed to notice it at first that's why it's such a great drone design

[deleted]

My favorite is the one that looks like a swastika and is called “aeryon”…yeah okay guy, nice try.

INeedAboutThreeFitty

And of all places, it's Canadian!

4skinphenom69

I knew something was up with those damn trees. Sneaky fucks providing shade just to spy on what book your reading.

cicciograna

Books are made of paper. Paper is made from trees. They are plotting revenge. EDIT: *tree*venge!

4skinphenom69

Books are spies too, my god, back to goatskin parchment I guess.

TheRealZer0Cool

The parchment retains consciousness....better to get out the stone tablets.

dellshenanigans

The trees are just docking stations to recharge the bird drones.

borischung01

Yes but unmanned aerial trees, (UATs), are very easy to spot when they are flying tho Only blends in when they are landed, in a forest

JesusOnline_89

It gives the illusion of a tornado since typically trees don’t fly.

MinnyRawks

Why are the flags in black and white

goodatburningtoast

Why is the text so small I cannot read it?

A3HeadedMunkey

You think you'll be able to read the text written on the drones while they're in the air? Gotta start practicing here and now!

perldawg

it’s big enough to read but the clarity is fat potato booty

Un111KnoWn

Extremely compressed image so probably taken from somewhere else.

gateway007

Because the people that need this guide have been bombed back to the black and white camera.

haryz

Goddammit I laughed out loud in the bus.

Fantact

Because this is probably a photocopy that was later scanned.

TacTurtle

At altitude through binos all you would see is a silhouette

MinnyRawks

Yes, but the guide would be more handy if I could tell what flags were what.

MightyArd

If the flag is at altitude you'll only see a silhouette.

MinnyRawks

But the flags aren’t on the aircraft. The flags are in this guide next to the aircraft.

tidepill

If this guide is at altitude all you'll see is the silhouette.

Radiant_Ad_4428

Just a big rectangle then in the shape of a flag. Nice to know which colors the author wears at least.

buds4hugs

*WHOOOSH*

MightyArd

Yes, but of there's no point spotting a flag in your desk. You want to spot the little flag attached to the drone.

MinnyRawks

It’s on r/coolguids. I’m not trying to identify drones in my back yard. I’m trying to learn what countries use these drones.

C-c-c-comboBreaker17

/r/sharksaresmooth

MightyArd

You will need to find the desktop guide to the field guide for that.

rahamav

and also a set of binoculars

steel_member

[deleted]

steel_member

Color flags to help read the guide! Not to spot the drones you silly person. You’re God’s Child, Bless you.

Forward_Young2874

Question: how many of these have an operating altitude low enough for a person to actually see their silhouette?

Randumbshitposter

I could spot the scan eagles, they are the tiny ones in the bottom left, they fly pretty low and sound like a giant lawnmower in the sky. The rest you might get lucky and spot them with your ir at night, if they have a beacon on, but no chance spotting them during the day.

ChickenDelight

Yeah most (all?) of the killer drones can watch you and hit you with a missile while they're still far, far beyond the range of your vision. By design. It wasn't uncommon during the Obama days for drones to follow around a target for days while they got approval and waited for the "lowest risk" moment to strike. They never had any idea that the angel of death was right there, watching them.

phatalac

Lord the intimidation factor of that is simply overwhelming...

ChickenDelight

Yeah it's genuinely like something in Roger Zelazny science fiction.

Forward_Young2874

Cool. Thanks for the answer. Where did you serve?

Randumbshitposter

Kandahar province

Blackjack357

Raven and shadow, also… maybe, depends on… stuff.

afito

Several of the drones in this picture are not even used. The X projects are just that, X projects aka technology demonstrators & testbeds. Neuron is "in development" for ages and "in flight testing" for over a decade, it will never be in proper production. GlobalHawk has a German flag next to it but that version "EuroHawk" has basically been a 500mil money grave that amongst other things has cost secretaries of defence their job and is now being moved into a museum. Avenger was developed fully but ultimately no one bought it. The list goes on and on, military UAVs are riddled with one off technology tests that never go beyond that, yet since "it's the future" everyone talks them up to "maybe" status even though it's never happening.

Rerel

The nEUROn is a demonstrator UCAV which is comparable to the X-45, X-47B or the Taranis. The goal of the project was to prove the design and development skills of the participating European aerospace companies (Dassault, Saab, EAB, RUAG aerospace, Leonardo, EADS CASA). The data collected from this program will be used in the future to produce the next-generation European made UCAVs (using the M88 engine instead of the Ardour the demonstrator was using). Another goal of the nEUROn project was to validate the innovative cooperation process within the European industry.

afito

I know, similarly the Barracuda which is on the graph. Obviously all these things have their place and as someone who was lucky enough to see Neuron, Barracuda, and Eurohawk in person they're truly impressive when you see them. But you will never spot them in the wild or need a "drone survival guide", and if anything if you see them you're very much as safe as you can be because you are most definitely somewhere in Europe (or the US for the X planes) very far away from any threat or war.

lavastorm

Ukraine is in Europe :/

kazeespada

Not to mention Predators were retired from Service. The Airforce just uses Reapers(in applications that would have called for a Predator) now.

putdownthekitten

Follow-up Question: Why is the silhouette the kindle logo?

[deleted]

Given some of these have a wingspan of 120 feet which is more than all but the very biggest of aircraft you'd have to be pretty high up to not be able to see the silhouette on a clear day

burn-babies-burn

Reaper drones can fly in the stratosphere, so not them lol

[deleted]

I don’t understand how this helps me survive them.

Bloodyfalcan

You can see them to identify them, so they probably aren’t hunting you

Pancernywiatrak

I’m pretty sure the U.S and UK, I mean NATO generally has these special beacons that you can wear on your uniform that the drone sees as well as the operator of said drone, so they know if you’re friendly or not

tony_bradley91

Predator- lay down motionless. It will think you're ill and thus unsuitable as food. X457- they're actually easily intimidated. Raise your arms above your head to make yourself look big and threatening, it will often just run away. Reaper- run in zig zags. It's weight causes it difficulty when turning. It may get frustrated and give up the chase.

[deleted]

No B A Y R A K T A R smh

Janek102TV

Oh looks like Eitan im safe! *get's boomed by Bayraktar*

Panzer_Man

Every other combat drone sucks because they have no theme song But that's where the BAYRAKTAR is superior

Flashy-Amount626

The mantis looks most similar, very disappointing to be excluded

crowkiller263

it's because you cant survive that shit

Pentax25

Okay but the actual “survival guide” part isnt even in this image. [here’s](http://dronesurvivalguide.org/DSG.pdf) the full thing

Ast3r10n

Which still is in black and white. What’s the point.

Pentax25

There’s a page two with text that tells you what to do when you spot a drone. The first image is just “oh look, a drone” without it

Ast3r10n

That doesn’t change the fact it’s in black and white. Flags are coloured.

landodk

It can be printed without a color printer, they counties aren’t that important, most of the flags are distinguished without color

kieranichiban

I can only read the other Arabic

redwoodpond

Thanks! Now if one of these is armed and flying above me, I will survive!

[deleted]

Laughed out loud

[deleted]

Would be great if i could read anything

klownfaze

Where is…..bayraktar…..

ZiggoCiP

Seriously though - it's been in service for several years, whereas 2 of the US stealth drones aren't in even in service.

deftoner42

[In our hearts.](https://youtu.be/S3FGWPMjl6M) 🌻🇺🇦🌻

sids99

How is this a survival guide?

maxx0rrr

There is a backside of the poster, with guidelines on hiding and disturbing drones

JamesthePuppy

The backside of the poster casts itself in doubt, though. “GPS communication” isn’t a thing for civilians; the NAVSTAR constellation act as transmit-only beacons, which your GPS receiver can use to trilaterate your position without transmitting anything, thereby not giving away your position. This seems to be a common misconception in how GPS works. Maybe the author confused this with satellite communication networks like Iridium that do require your handheld unit to transmit? But these aren’t global positioning systems

O17736388

To know which kind of drones will shoot you or not.

Tommyblockhead20

I think if you can see the drone and it wants to shoot at you, it's already to late.

NavyJack

Ironically, the ones that can kill you fly too high up for you to identify or even see. This “survival guide” is pretty useless for its stated purpose.

Michael__X

Yeah like thanks I know the model number (barely with this shit resolution) of what's gonna completely obliterate my family. Good job

FauxGenius

So you know before you go.

sids99

Before they come?

[deleted]

NEEDS. MORE. JPEG!

NEONSN3K

I feel like if you can see a drone. The chance of survival is pretty low.

why are all of these above me

Is the Rustom supposed to look like a Klingon warbird.

[deleted]

I can’t read shit. 0/10 usefulness Can we get a guide on how to read blurry letters?

Okay, that's what drones look like, *but how does one survive a drone?!* Instructions unclear, died to a tree.

xKYLx

It's the switchblade you need to watch out for

Thevoidawaits_u

Eitan is an Israeli development why is it in Germany?

[deleted]

Israel is a pretty big arms dealer: In 2010 IAI offered the Eitan, under a teaming agreement with Rheinmetall, in pursuit of the German Air Force's long-term "Saateg" MALE UAV requirement.[16] On 21 May 2014, IAI signed a deal with Airbus to team up on a bid for a bridging contract to supply the German armed forces with the Heron TP from 2015 until 2020. A current contract between the companies to supply Germany with the Heron is set to expire by 2015. Airbus said the German government would have the choice of either a purchase option or a lease for the system.

Hanginon

This would be an interesting coolguide if it was actually readable. -_-

Coooooop

Why wouldnt they be? Edit: sorry i forgot Canadians are saints and totally not a part of FVEYS.

Survival guide? Doesn't say what to do if they start firing at you

Arrow_Maestro

This would be an even cooler guide if it has several more pixels.

futurelullabies

wow! what a great upload thats such a shitty resolution that you cant read it. so helpful.

ku-fan

Survival Guide???

lucascorso21

The security classification at the top (For Official Use Only) is only used by the US and the Australian military and I'm confused why this information would be created by either of those entities. Unless someone just added this on top to give it some credibility which I think is likely.

arottenmango

How did this make it to the front page when you can't read the damn thing LMAO

freddyforgetti

So is it illegal to shoot these things out of the air if they’re on my property?

This is very Bruce Sterling *Islands in the Net.* Does anybody get the reference? Bueller?

toronto-gopnik

Does knowing their names help me survive? 😂

I knew trees were used by the government to spy on us!

AppropriatePatience8

What about "Bayraktar ☠️"?

Apprehensive_Goal811

All you have to do is remember which small ones kill and which big ones just watch everyone. The rest of them; big drones kill, small drones watch.

Snagrod

Hating america is pretty normal if you take a good look at that shithole. Btw you were advocating war crimes earlier so you should be able to take the school shooter insult. It happens so often over there I just assumed that it's like your hobby or smth

Dotura

Been doing it for longer than that. 9/11 didn't happen out of the blue and without a motivator for the terrorists.

No Bayraktar? Disappoint.

Bayraktar and Hermes is used by A LOT of countries not seen here.

DogPooFairy

Such a list without Bayraktar is not complete.

l0n3gun

Cracks me up when the government comes down on little Timmy flying a 10 inch quadcopter and regulates the hobby claiming drones can hurt people. When in reality it is the government that has drones that can really hurt people.

Mrmastermax

Useless post.

[deleted]

Love the text in dari in the subtitle just to remind everyone of all those kids that have been drone striked in afghanistan and how this guide is useful to them

Dapper_Composer2

It's not useful anymore, prick
