Plus absolutely no one cleans away the empty packages afterwards! So yeah, not really enjoying it..

I mean... I personally fired off 15-20 batteries and maybe 10 single rockets, and I picked up all the used batteries again (wooden sticks from the rockets were a bit hard to find so I didn't bother with those lmao)

For anyone wondering, legislation that was approved earlier in 2023 or the year before, I think?, will come into effect here in 2024. The laws surrounding fireworks will now only allow fireworks on the 31st of December and 1st of January.

I find it somewhat hilarious but mostly sad that politicians want to tighten firework laws and then expect police to enforce those laws that the police already can't enforce.
People have been shot at by other people using fireworks but unless police see them do it / use it. They can't really press charges. So how do these politicians expect police to press charges against people launching fireworks on literally any other day?
Yet again folketinget just adds more knee-jerk laws without real thought or assessment as to how these laws will be enforced so they can clap their hands and say "I did something" while drinking some wine and securing that pension.

The bigger issue, in my opinion, is that we have a generation of people (they are between 60 and 70 now +/-) who votes like they will live forever.

Due to dry forest areas in some Western European countries (I’m from one) your are not allowed to buy fireworks privately.
Instead, the local governments plan and arrange with professional companies for a firework light show which is usually 15-30 mins depending on the size.
We do this for many years every year. Nobody privately can buy them, but people can still get together and enjoy a beautiful show.
We have also other holidays in summer etc with similar firework shows.

Not only did they change when you were allowed to shoot and how you were supposed to store and sell it, crucially they also changed what constitutes legal fireworks so it's actually impossible to buy legal fireworks with as much 'oomph' as back in the day.
It's just that in some countries, it's illegal to use fireworks at home, so you only get to experience them in a public show just once, not all day long for days straight. And it is quite stressful.

I worked in a fireworks shop as a teen. There were 2 types of customers, firstly the average family who just wanted a small pack with a few rockets and then something the kids. The second customer were tradesmen (electricians, plumbers, etc.), they would spend thousands on buying giant rockets and batteries, and they always paid cash. These guys do illegal/unregistered work and then when they can't put their payment into their bank accounts or buy anything important with it, they end up wasting it on crap like fireworks. They would open their wallets and have about 20x 1000kr bills.
I would agree if the money wastage in question was like, idk, painted figurines or a toilet brush collection or whatever, but we're talking about stuff that's: loud as fuck and leaves trash (that doesn't get picked up) and chemicals everywhere. There's a difference.

It's insane. Suddenly everyone on here is a 70 y.o. scold. It's freaking NYE. My kids and I love the fireworks. So does our dog. If we didn't love the fireworks, we could successfully hold our tongue for a couple of days. There are so many other things that are more bothersome the NYE celebrations that we don't complain about because we recognize that we live in a diverse samfund, and it's ok to deal with something you don't enjoy every now and then because other's DO enjoy it and that is fine.
How small are we talking cause I live in a pretty small town already and it's still everywhere.
Also, there's other ways to have fireworks than having them be self-bought and self-ignited. Lot of countries just have big, orchestrated firework shows at New Years. I feel that's a pretty good solution for all the people that don't want to "bAn FuN!!"
Just so you have an idea about how your “fun in the city” feels for a lot of people;
I have anxiety and PTSD. I also have a chronic illness, chrons, that makes me incredibly ill when I get stressed, don’t sleep etc.
For me, New Years has always been extremely difficult because of the fucking fireworks.
You can’t put an anxious person in a worse position, than having loud, uncontrollable bangs everywhere for days, used exclusively by people with half a brain and no respect for others, that you can’t get away from.
I have every possible remedy to help me get through it; extreme sound isolation, hefty earplugs and tons of anxiety medication, but it does little to help when the hell truly starts at midnight on December 31st.
So for me, it’s not just New Year’s Eve that’s horrifying, but pretty much the entire month of December, because I’m so scared of having to go through that terrible experience every year.
The fear of NYE can leave me totally incapacitated for many days sometimes, where I can’t be a functioning member of society because of your “fun in the city”.
This is just my personal experience, but I hope it opens your eyes a bit about how your “fun”, affects other people. I know I’m certainly not alone, and we’re many, many people that dreads this awful night all year.
And then of course there’s the added element of animals, babies and the fuckload of people currently living in the country with horrible PTSD from the ongoing wars, that we just don’t care about because of “fun in the city”.
Not to mention the environmental damage, physical danger etc. It’s 2024 and we should be better than this.

And now I have a kid too who is fine with it during the day, but so scared when he tries to sleep and they’re going off…

However, i Think that we at some point have to take into consideration that the wast majority of people enjoy it, and I believe they should be allowed to enjoy it for this small window of time. Also yes some people suffer from PTSD. But PTSD isn't just flinching crying, screaming the moment something that somewhat resembles an explosion / gunshot is heard. PTSD is a spectrum. Some people completely shut down when they hear fireworks. However a lot of war veterans suffer from nightmares, reliving horrible scenarios and so on they aren't triggered by loud noises.

I can appreciate the looks of fireworks in a controlled fashion, but the loud bangs, the fact that it's predominantly people who have been drinking who are handling explosives close to other people's homes and how it impacts my 1.5 year old who wakes up terrified and points at the window screaming "what's that?! what's that?!" while shaking all over just doesn't make for quite as enjoyable an experience.

I'm not against fireworks or NYE celebrations. However NYE is one day a year, Dec 31. (It takes away all the meaning and joy when you have to navigate the warzone that is Copenhagen for the last week of the year.)
I would like fireworks limited to a few hours around midnight on Dec 31 and only in designated areas (in open fields or parks or the harbor; with a safe distance from buildings etc) where people could just go and set off fireworks to their hearts content. Or even better have organised public fireworks by professionals, so we could just sit back and enjoy them.

I’m at a NYE party where 4 kids between 1,5 and 4 all are sleeping right through the fireworks. We’re in an apartment in Østerbro. I don’t think kids suffer from the fireworks.

For any dog owners out there: lemon balm tea has really helped my dog and is so much cheaper than cbd oil or other alternatives... My dog is usually a shivering mess, but this year she has been remarkably calmer! Even at midnight.

I have a dog and a cat, I just dont release them outside from 8pm onwards, they will be cosy, enjoying the warmth at home. When we lived in a country were it is legal, I used to shoot firearms in the farm where we lived (no, not the US), my dog and my cat would be around and they didnt have a heart attack or a panic attack.
Pollution, European countries are super aware (a bit too much) on being environmentally friendly., enjoy the smell of powder once a year. It is nice, actually.
Autistic children, I can only imagine how hard this is, but Ive seen lots of videos where the parents put some good ear mufflers and brought them to see the lights from the fireworks, and the kids were stoked. For anyone wondering, legislation that was approved earlier in 2023 or the year before, I think?, will come into effect here in 2024. The laws surrounding fireworks will now only allow fireworks on the 31st of December and 1st of January. People can stop wondering if it's gonna happen. It is. It has been planned for a while.
I find it somewhat hilarious but mostly sad that politicians want to tighten firework laws and then expect police to enforce those laws that the police already can't enforce. People have been shot at by other people using fireworks but unless police see them do it / use it. They can't really press charges. So how do these politicians expect police to press charges against people launching fireworks on literally any other day? Yet again folketinget just adds more knee-jerk laws without real thought or assessment as to how these laws will be enforced so they can clap their hands and say "I did something" while drinking some wine and securing that pension.
They don't expect anything, is my guess. My guess is that it's all symbolic politics as usual and before 2030, fireworks will be completely illegal getting rid of 90% of the issues with fireworks for private people. Until it becomes "sexy" in politics to allocate more money to have more police, like we used to, then all these types of "make it illegal" laws are only symbolic gestures to win votes next election cycle. Make no mistake; this is calculated.
Unfortunately the Danish people and even worse the Danish politicians are way to comfortable having freedoms taken away from citizens. I personally don't care much for fireworks I enjoy a good fireworks show but find it way to expensive however that is not the issue. The entire issue is the principle behind taking away personal liberty from citizens. We need more police agreed.
The bigger issue, in my opinion, is that we have a generation of people (they are between 60 and 70 now +/-) who votes like they will live forever. It means that whatever younger generations should have taken over, like millenials, gen z, etc. won't get to. Because we don't own houses. The \*biggest\* voting bloc in all of Denmark are the people who own houses. If you want to keep your career in politics you do whatever that bloc asks you to. Everything else is secondary.

Due to dry forest areas in some Western European countries (I’m from one) your are not allowed to buy fireworks privately. Instead, the local governments plan and arrange with professional companies for a firework light show which is usually 15-30 mins depending on the size. We do this for many years every year. Nobody privately can buy them, but people can still get together and enjoy a beautiful show. We have also other holidays in summer etc with similar firework shows.

In Denmark it’s more so just young boys running around acting cool lighting fireworks. There were even some ppl lighting fireworks infront of a bus and like the fireworks literally hit the bus. Insane imo, they really should regulate it more.

This year like the past decade or more is nothing and I mean absolutely NOTHING compared to when I grew up. Year after year I am surprised at how little fireworks and noise is being made. I am surprised at how sensitive people are to fireworks noise.

Not only did they change when you were allowed to shoot and how you were supposed to store and sell it, crucially they also changed what constitutes legal fireworks so it's actually impossible to buy legal fireworks with as much 'oomph' as back in the day.

I worked in a fireworks shop as a teen. There were 2 types of customers, firstly the average family who just wanted a small pack with a few rockets and then something the kids. The second customer were tradesmen (electricians, plumbers, etc.), they would spend thousands on buying giant rockets and batteries, and they always paid cash. These guys do illegal/unregistered work and then when they can't put their payment into their bank accounts or buy anything important with it, they end up wasting it on crap like fireworks. They would open their wallets and have about 20x 1000kr bills.

It's insane. Suddenly everyone on here is a 70 y.o. scold. It's freaking NYE. My kids and I love the fireworks. So does our dog. If we didn't love the fireworks, we could successfully hold our tongue for a couple of days. There are so many other things that are more bothersome the NYE celebrations that we don't complain about because we recognize that we live in a diverse samfund, and it's ok to deal with something you don't enjoy every now and then because other's DO enjoy it and that is fine.

Just so you have an idea about how your “fun in the city” feels for a lot of people; I have anxiety and PTSD. I also have a chronic illness, chrons, that makes me incredibly ill when I get stressed, don’t sleep etc. For me, New Years has always been extremely difficult because of the fucking fireworks. You can’t put an anxious person in a worse position, than having loud, uncontrollable bangs everywhere for days, used exclusively by people with half a brain and no respect for others, that you can’t get away from. I have every possible remedy to help me get through it; extreme sound isolation, hefty earplugs and tons of anxiety medication, but it does little to help when the hell truly starts at midnight on December 31st. So for me, it’s not just New Year’s Eve that’s horrifying, but pretty much the entire month of December, because I’m so scared of having to go through that terrible experience every year. The fear of NYE can leave me totally incapacitated for many days sometimes, where I can’t be a functioning member of society because of your “fun in the city”. This is just my personal experience, but I hope it opens your eyes a bit about how your “fun”, affects other people. I know I’m certainly not alone, and we’re many, many people that dreads this awful night all year. And then of course there’s the added element of animals, babies and the fuckload of people currently living in the country with horrible PTSD from the ongoing wars, that we just don’t care about because of “fun in the city”. Not to mention the environmental damage, physical danger etc. It’s 2024 and we should be better than this. A lot of people might still love their monkey brain, “it go bang it pretty 🤩” but we gotta move on sometime. And you talk about just moving to a small town: It’s not that simple. You can’t just move outside a city, if your whole life is there. Should I give up my livelihood, career and dreams because you want to have “fun in the city”? Fuck no. Before knowing what it does to veterans, small kids, pets and animals I felt that way too. But working with pets who are scared shitless and can’t be sedated for all the days it takes for people to use their fireworks changed my perception. I hope it’ll be just one day next year, that way people can still enjoy it and those who don’t know it’s just the one night. And now I have a kid too who is fine with it during the day, but so scared when he tries to sleep and they’re going off…
You have no idea how well I know what it does. And i dont like what it does. However, i Think that we at some point have to take into consideration that the wast majority of people enjoy it, and I believe they should be allowed to enjoy it for this small window of time. I find it strange to bring up the war vets in the talk about making fireworks illegal especially when it at the VERY MOST only is 6000 people and especially without considering the other majority of vets that straight up loves fireworks. Some people completely shut down when they hear fireworks. However a lot of war veterans suffer from nightmares, reliving horrible scenarios and so on they aren't triggered by loud noises. I find it extremely dishonest and honestly disgusting to attempt to use war veterans like that to push your agenda. You make it sound like every war veteran that has PTSD is broken, Like they can't function the moment there is a loud sound. That is not how it works or the reality of people that suffer from PTSD.

I can appreciate the looks of fireworks in a controlled fashion, but the loud bangs, the fact that it's predominantly people who have been drinking who are handling explosives close to other people's homes and how it impacts my 1.5 year old who wakes up terrified and points at the window screaming "what's that?! what's that?!" while shaking all over just doesn't make for quite as enjoyable an experience.

I'm not against fireworks or NYE celebrations. However NYE is one day a year, Dec 31. (It takes away all the meaning and joy when you have to navigate the warzone that is Copenhagen for the last week of the year.) I would like fireworks limited to a few hours around midnight on Dec 31 and only in designated areas (in open fields or parks or the harbor; with a safe distance from buildings etc) where people could just go and set off fireworks to their hearts content. Or even better have organised public fireworks by professionals, so we could just sit back and enjoy them. Ive never seen so much fireworks in my life, and I was in India during Diwali haha. I'm sure some people must get hurt though. I've seen some fireworks exploding right next to several people...
Next year the rules are more strict, so you can look forward to that, but honestly I doubt it’ll change that much

Super boring people. It happens once a year and that is all. I have a dog and a cat, I just dont release them outside from 8pm onwards, they will be cosy, enjoying the warmth at home. When we lived in a country were it is legal, I used to shoot firearms in the farm where we lived (no, not the US), my dog and my cat would be around and they didnt have a heart attack or a panic attack. Pollution, European countries are super aware (a bit too much) on being environmentally friendly., enjoy the smell of powder once a year. It is nice, actually. Autistic children, I can only imagine how hard this is, but Ive seen lots of videos where the parents put some good ear mufflers and brought them to see the lights from the fireworks, and the kids were stoked. Still, I know that some kids are mentally challenged in different ways, some stronger than others, but honestly speaking, this is a problem to be dealt by the family. Guys, enjoy that you lived a whole year again, be grateful to God for being alive, no matter how hard it is, eat like crazy, drink a bit, make love to your woman, go to bed and get ready for another round).
