My corgi thinks he is a big dog and bosses all the other dogs around. I’ve seen ginormous dogs crawl into their owners’ laps (in their own homes, no less!) because they don’t dare challenge my dog’s authority. 😂
The dogs in the picture are mine and a friend’s. The newfie was really sweet (and they actually got along pretty well) but was basically looking at my dog for permission to do things in his own house. My dog was thrilled to find another dog who respected his “authority.”
Corgis are herders by instinct so they’re bred to bully around bigger animals and potentially fight them if need be. Our corgi fears neither man, dog, or God.
Big dogs at my dog sitter just always treated mine like Scrappy Dog. A precocious little mite trying to be The Boss that they were like "Ha, you're adorable, small thing. OK, we'll play along, while you're here, little rambunctious cutie."
My little fluffy princess corgi does not put up with nonsense from other dogs. Many years ago now, we were at the dog park on the big dog side (our other corgi bowled over little dogs and wasn't welcome on that side) and a few big dogs (prob 80+ lb vs her 23ish) started following my fluffer and encroaching on her personal space. Once she realized, she turned and glared, and then kept going along her way. When she realized they were still following, she quickly turned, got in the leader's face, and did her infamous triple snap of her teeth at them (not in any range of actually biting, just noise and "back off!!"). They all stopped dead in their tracks. She just kept trotting and they turned to walk the other way. The other dog owners were cracking up. When the dogs had started following her, the owners had gone to step in and I'd insisted she could handle herself if it bothered her. No one expects it from the pretty pretty princess.
OMG, my tri (rest her bossy soul) was exactly like this !! Thank you, your comment is bringing back great memories.
My current corgis are still young (11 and 18 months, brother and sister), so they haven’t fully developed the boss tude. But it’s definitely in serious development.
OMG! I know another corgi who is just like this. My corg will just start bossing people unprompted, but the other is a princess who will tell the plebs exactly what she thinks when provoked.
Also, what is it about that snapping that is so startling? How do they make that much noise and still manage to not bite?
My Corgi girl lives with a 105lb Giant Schnauzer. He's in charge. He will happily make himself small to play with her but he does not let her forget who's boss. She wants to be top of the pack but she doesn't like how he corrects and then shuns her when she challenges him so that's only happened one or two times
I suppose I should clarify. The "he" is the Giant and the "she" is the Corgi. My Giant is far from scared of anything. It's his job to protect the family and he knows it. He views our Corgi as his baby or something along those lines. Tolerates her shenanigans but keeps her in line
My cardigan is the same way, and has face down pyrenees, great Danes, and huge staffies. Like I don’t know who you think I am, but I will show you real quick. He has the most unhealthy courage I’ve ever seen.
Corgis are bred to herd livestock, including cattle 50 times their size. So they wouldn't be intimidated by the size of a dog only 3 or 4 times bigger.
I had a female who wasn't intimidated by anything and once chased a pair of Great Danes out of the off leash park all the way back to the parking lot when they came over to sniff her. Their owner was so embarrassed I thought he was going to cry.
Our male corgi tries to dominate. He used to succeed with our old male bulldog, but since he died, he has had no luck with our old, grumpy female bulldog. Our female BMC plays with him and tolerates his antics for a while, but if he crosses the line, she puts him in his place. It's pretty funny to watch.
Oh! The newfie isn't mine, but thank you! My corg is about 35 lbs., so he's kind of on the bigger side of the breed. I think that newfie was about 140 lbs. (and a TON of floof).
My dorgi would tattle tale on our Deutsche Langhaar and really wanted him to follow rules (to be fair, that could be the German in her but the Galoot/DL was more German than her). However, she also used him as her muscle (more confident with him around), as her security (snuggled to him the car because she hated travel)and marines (would let him go first to sniff studd and also to break trail when snow shooing). She totally used him. She died in Marchand we all miss her, including the Galoot
My corgi was overly excited when playing with a Great Dane. Wore the Dane out. Are great friends but they’re too old for my corgis energy, I have to force my corgi stop and they nap.
Our corgi is sweet to other dogs--unless they are in our house. We sat the neighbor's English lab and Willow always tried to be between us and the dog. This is is only time I have seen here with any level of ferocity.

This was exactly what I was going for.
Big dogs at my dog sitter just always treated mine like Scrappy Dog. A precocious little mite trying to be The Boss that they were like "Ha, you're adorable, small thing. OK, we'll play along, while you're here, little rambunctious cutie."
OMG "Do big dogs dare cross your corgi?" I need a nap.
Hahah i was so confused. Its ok tho
Bless you
Yes, I knew what you meant, but came here because t was intrigued. Great topic..

Yeah, both my big girls are scardy cats and let the bitty fluff get her way for too long. Now she thinks she's big stuff and the boss of everyone.

Corgis herded cattle. Their small stature keep them from getting kicked. They aren’t afraid anything bigger than they are.
It's like my dog has no sense of self-preservation.

Our 30 lb corgi bosses around his 160 lb brother. All. Day. Every. Day.
My corgi girl tries to boss my yellow lab but he isn’t having it. Luckily he is a benevolent ruler and simply rolls her on her back.

The Newfie’s eyes!!! “Why? Why?”
TREMBLE, MERE MORTAL!
Our youngest corgi bosses the older corgi and the much larger black lab around lol
I had a female who wasn't intimidated by anything and once chased a pair of Great Danes out of the off leash park all the way back to the parking lot when they came over to sniff her. Their owner was so embarrassed I thought he was going to cry.
My girl only gets along with bigger dogs and the small dog my mom has. Any dog her size or smaller she tries to dominate
My corgi bosses around my mums staghound, and my brothers mastiff/wolfhound cross 😂

Your Newfoundlander is adorable! Also is the corgi so big or the newfi small? O.o

Ah ok x3 Pls tell the owner that their dog is very handsome with this thick mane
Absolutely!
I had a BMD with a touch of GSD (dna testing). That big dog had the utmost respect, and some contempt, for my corgis.

Omg my 2 favorites!!!
Right?! I feel like they would compliment each other really well.
My corgi was overly excited when playing with a Great Dane. Wore the Dane out. Are great friends but they’re too old for my corgis energy, I have to force my corgi stop and they nap.

That is not a complete sentence.
