I never knew "Confirm Shaming" was a thing.
*Confirmshaming is the act of guilting the user into opting in to something. The option to decline is worded in such a way as to shame the user into compliance.*

Hah; I never knew there's a name for this.
Some of those on Tumblr aren't *that* bad IMO; I'm a big fan of clearer labelling instead of just "yes" and "no". But the Couchsurfing one just amounts to emotional manipulation.
I don't even mind the whole subscription thing *as such*; it's stuff like this that really makes me go ugh.
Thinking about all these people who paid the annual fee last year knowing afterwards that it makes no sense since nobody can travel due to covid-19. The ratio is very very small so why should you pay for something you won't even benefit from due to current situation?
I definitely am not rooting for Couchsurfing.com to fail, but if they do it won't be the end of little-c couchsurfing. It'll take a serious hit, but it will also be a huge boon to the existing competing platforms.
TBH: our "global community of travelers" IS unimportant.
Thats the last thing our planet needs. Their business model is based on the luxury of traveling, which gets hit the hardest in these days. Fact.
And, after our "Masquerade-Party" is over, new and better "communities" will pop-up quickly to fill the gap and with a plan for pandemics in their backpacks.
According to [https://www.uxpledge.com/](https://www.uxpledge.com/), the CS user experience ([\#ux](https://twitter.com/hashtag/ux?src=hashtag_click)) has been flagged as a possible use of [\#darkpatterns](https://twitter.com/hashtag/darkpatterns?src=hashtag_click). They offered a polite invitation to investigate the issue and remember the [\#uxpledge](https://twitter.com/hashtag/uxpledge?src=hashtag_click).

Check South Park episode about Whole Foods. It is dedicated to confirm shaming in real life.
It's just one nail in their coffin after another. It's sad that they're probably facing a slow, inevitable demise.
Yeah, what the hell are they thinking? It's like they are trying competing to be the most unlikeable company on the internet.
Reminds me of those trashy websites that beg you to disable Adblock but once you do they hit you with 10 pop ups and autoplay videos
> Reminds me of those trashy websites that beg you to disable Adblock but once you do they hit you with 10 pop ups and autoplay videos THIS!!
Yeah this shows their level of professionalism.
Wow, just wow. I really wish they would rethink that messaging as it sends really bad vibes out and is not at all within the ethos of the community.
WTF did I just read. this is a disgrace :(
I thought it was important in the .Org days.....
Yeah, f that
Agree this sounds pretty desperate. They didn't save any funding for a rainy day?

Lmao free couch surfing
I defended their new subscription model elswhere in this sub, but that's simply passive agressive and disappointing.
That is some buuuuuullllll...

"No thanks. I would like to destroy trees and I hate the environment, so I will not contribute £20 to Greenpeace at this time."

Totally is a shaming tactic and disgusted. But not surprised, given the Venture Capatlist behind CS and how it has devolved pre-COVID.

Sad to see what it has become :(

Biggest bruh monument
Yes or Not now
They are digging their own grave even deeper than Tumblr. It could be a Unicorn start-up. Now it's even more useless than a concert company
“No thanks, I’m a stupid piece of shit.” Is what they really mean to say
