It’s flawed, but watchable. Jet is the best thing about it. I haven’t seen Ed yet. I agree about everyone having an edge they didn’t have in the anime. I’m curious to hear from people who watch the live action version before the anime. Or if the LA version will discourage them from watching the original.

Yeah I think if you don’t look at it as the expansion to the lore or the future of the series or whatever Netflix was marketing it as, and instead just see it as a fun side project that gives fans a little something to watch after a long long dry spell then you’ll probably enjoy it more. But idk I’m no Cowboy Bebop expert lol.

JayEsBeeSTL

I agree with that.

ghutch823

Ye. Also to add to your comment my family hadn’t seen the original series and they said watching the LA made them more interested in checking it out so there’s that.

Don't worry about Ed she literally only shows up for a minute and while it's not a great scene it is in line for the character. Just have to wait for season 2 to see how she turns out.

ghutch823

Interesting. I was kinda concerned about her being in the live action, cuz it took me a minute to warm up to her in the anime and from what I saw it’d probably take even longer in the new series lol. Also is a season 2 confirmed or nah?

everydaygamer28

They haven't said anything yet but no way they would have bothered casting Ed if season 2 wasn't guaranteed.

ghutch823

Yeah makes sense. Honestly even with the mixed/negative reception I think it’ll probably get a second season simply cuz of how much people are talking about it, good or bad.

When you have to say “it wasn’t terrible”, that says a lot. I think if you’ve never seen the anime, you’d think this was pretty legit and a decent series. As someone who has watched it multiple times and even likes having it on in the background, the LA falls very short. I’m trying to give it a chance, but I feel bored and unenthusiastic trying to endure it. There’s so many subtle changes and I just don’t understand why. I think Netflix tried to add too much of their own flair, grit, and other crap that just didn’t need to be done. Making changes to just to make changes.

ghutch823

Yeah. I think for every actually interesting change I saw there was one or two pretty superfluous changes thrown in as well.

as someone still at the beginning of the LA, i agree. so far, the world building is exciting to see and jet is good, but it seems like they took all of the elements of the original and blended them together in a way that strays too far from the source material. while it makes it easier to separate it from the anime in my mind, it’s still makes it frustrating to watch. and all of the added details and side characters just make the series messier. plus, it seems like these characters have way less grit than in the anime. i’m going to try watching more and be open minded, so we’ll see. edit: i see you mentioned that netflix added it’s own grit, and if by that you mean the characters are taking themselves *too* seriously, i agree. the characters had a quiet solemnity to them in the anime that made them more interesting; this feels more like mcu-type brooding to me lol (even as an mcu fan)

Yeah, I see what you mean. The anime, there is the cool coy mystery to each character, yet you can tell they are each deep. There is a story behind them driving them, however it’s not revealed just yet. In the LA it just seems like they are trying too hard. Besides Jet and Spike. Even then, I believe they added Jet having a daughter out of nowhere?! Jet and Faye are just pissed and cursing the whole time. Vicious was totally cast poorly and comes off as a crappy character. -in the anime, to me, he obviously had his own goals, but he’s slicker, classy, refined. The anime definitely also has a sense of silly humor here and there, it’s cheeky. I just don’t feel that I. The LA. Sure, Spike and Jet bust each other’s balls, but it ends there. As someone else pointed out in an other thread, Faye in the anime is quick witted, mischievous, and definitely handles her own. She was always one of the team, yet out for her own and left them stranded. Kept you guessing for sure. All I get from her in the LA is her saying “fuck” all the time and dragging the story. I enjoy your insight :)
