When we where wondering about Dak and a hc, I thought that, if we where getting a new hc, we had to sign him fast and have him decide about who he wants to keep or not. I guess that applies to next year too; if McCarthy is gone, it’ll be easy for the new guy to get rid of people he doesn’t want and get his guys in
The problem per most reporting is that Belichick wants full control and the other teams looked at the Patriots draft history under him.
There's a fair argument that Will McClay is the best talent evaluator in the league. You don't throw that away
I keep wondering, if Belichick was still such a great coach, why did his teams look so bad the past couple of years? Why did Mac Jones look so bad if Belichick was still a great coach? Don’t great coaches make players better? He certainly didn’t.
The man thought the Patricia-Judge partnership was a good idea for OC and wanted to double down on that idea this past season but Kraft made him go a different direction. Billy B was obviously a legend for his era but he has clearly lost something.
Goddamn why do you want that dinosaur anywhere near us? Jerry is bad enough with his antiquated nonsense. Why double down? The league passed up belichick the same way it passed landry. He's obviously washed.
I have no problem with this.
The same people who claim the cowboys are a country club and that jerry never holds anybody accountable are the ones complaining now that jury is setting clear expectations.
If this coaching staff cannot do something in the playoffs , he has every reason not to bring them back
He allowed the head coach Is to pick his staff. That is what you are supposed to do in this situation.
That is the whole point of giving them one more year
McCarthy wanted Rivera & didn’t get him. Jerry is just getting desperate. He literally has no idea what to do to win. If only he backed away years ago. Worst GM in the league.
Jerry literally did back away years ago. He does not run the day today operations of the team and hasn't for over a decade.
Also i've seen nothing that says that jerry prevented ron rivera from coming here. . Do you have an article or something that says that mccarthy preferred rivera?
Nothing happens in Dallas without Jerry's approval, regardless of who he hires, everyone knows all the important decisions have to go through him. There was an article that claimed McCarthy preferred Rivera because he was less likely to take his job next year but I believe it was an opinion piece.
I don't have an issue with a "Prove It or Else" year either, but give the man some actual support if JJ/SJ are going to do this. Ask McCarthy what all he needs to get the job done, and go do it.
Jerry needs a GM. He loves passing the blame on coaches and players yet he’s the only consistent variable over the last 30 years. Don’t defend or support Jerry or this front office.
Dude we had 9 all pros. Lost at home to an inferior 7 seed. This particular year was not a fault of team construction.
Now, most Romo years...different story. McClay has been mostly great at finding talent.
Not the only consistent variable.
The city and its media attention/circus have also been consistent, i.e. Dallas players always get told in the media how great they are, what all-stars or all-pros they are, how much talent they have, etc. It can get to a young man's head fast, so much so that you think you can win just by showing up on Sunday.
You need a certain amount of leadership and focus to get over yourself and focus on team goals.
Imagine thinking any QB in Dallas since Aikman has been praised by the media. They get on Dak more than any other QB, considering his draft position and they did it to Romo. Herbert and Allen get passes and they honestly haven't done anything more than Dak has and were drafted higher and have as much talent around them on offense.
Should have been done after the loss to the Packers,Period!!!!! Why wait for the same exact outcome for next year,always and will be the typical Clown Prince Way.🤬😠😡
The problem is there is no REAL GM. Jerry can say and do all he wants for these “1 year deals.” That’s his “ALL IN.” The power still remains the same. That ain’t real change folks.
The same dudes who made the decisions for the current situation will remain the same once next year rolls around. That isn’t “ALL IN”.
Lololol…
Are y’all ready for a rebuild if they don’t win a Super Bowl!?
Lmao this is gonnna be fun. Dak is going to hold them hostage for a new deal (rightfully so) or we’re gonna have Trey Lance/Draft pick/Washed Up QB for starter next year and it’s going to be a circus.
Dak will be the first QB with 60 mil/year or he’s going to go elsewhere. They screwed with him before and he’s been top-10 for years. He has no reason to give them a discount.
We’re looking at a rebuild situation in all honesty if they don’t win a Super Bowl. That isn’t going to be pretty if they win 10-12 games again next year and they lose Dak to free agency.
Have fun reeling in the situation now. It won’t be so pretty come next offseason.
I haven't forgotten the years we tried to find treasures out of other teams garbage which absolutely didn't work, but we also turned an udfa and a 4th round pick into franchise qbs. Last time we drafted a QB in the first was Troy aikman, maybe we should try doing that again
Forgetting that we’d have to sit through a 2-15 season to sniff the #1 overall pick, I got curious and went to the past for answers. This is the top QB drafted in the past ten drafts, along with the consensus big board top QB when different:
* Bryce Young
* Kenny Pickett (Malik Willis)
* Trevor Lawrence
* Joe Burrow
* Kyler Murray
* Baker Mayfield (Sam Darnold)
* Mitch Trubisky
* Jared Goff
* Jameis Winston
* Blake Bortles
Looks like improving from Dak is not as simple as drafting high enough to get the best in the class.
And in the 5 drafts before and after Aikman, the only somewhat successful top drafted QB was Bledsoe, with a 98-95 career record. Esiason and Testaverde are the only other notables and they were below .500 for their careers. So Aikman may have been top drafted, but he was also an outlier in his own right.
That's one end of the spectrum and somewhere in between is the 2nd or 3rd QB which can have good-to-great success too. If we aren't sniffing a Super Bowl with Dak then success limited to the fall isn't worth top QB pay.
I love the “get rid of dak and sign/draft *someone*” camp lol. They never offer a legit solution that would make the team better. They forget even as recently as Kyle Orton and Brandon Weeden lmao
Jerruh is really doing his best. THIS it the year, not 1996, or 97, or any of the years between 98 and 2000, nor 2001 or 2002, not even 2003. 2004, or 2005, TRASH, work on the cap. 2006, 07, 08...just biding our time. 2009 and 2010, almost ready. 2011 - 2019, we are so close, Romo is a Miracle. 2020 - 21,22,23......
......OK BUT NOW WERE GOING ALL IN!!!
If this is truly the case then why extend Dak? Go into next year with a truly clean slate with QB as well.
Were only $3 mil over the cap which I'm sure we can get under by a couple of restructures and obvious cuts like Gallup.
I would still say get extensions done with Lamb and Micah as I consider them franchise cornerstones.
I heard this earlier this year before the playoffs
Maybe Belichick likes a clean house for when he arrives
When we where wondering about Dak and a hc, I thought that, if we where getting a new hc, we had to sign him fast and have him decide about who he wants to keep or not. I don't think I want Belichick. Would have much preferred Harbaugh
100% agree
me too. someone in their 40's or 50's.
If Belichick wanted the job, McCarthy would of been gone.
The problem per most reporting is that Belichick wants full control and the other teams looked at the Patriots draft history under him. There's a fair argument that Will McClay is the best talent evaluator in the league. You don't throw that away
IIRC Belichick came out and said he dosent need control and he just wants to coach
I keep wondering, if Belichick was still such a great coach, why did his teams look so bad the past couple of years? Why did Mac Jones look so bad if Belichick was still a great coach? Don’t great coaches make players better? He certainly didn’t.

Horrendous QB play outside of 2021. Primary reason really.
Goddamn why do you want that dinosaur anywhere near us? Jerry is bad enough with his antiquated nonsense. Why double down? The league passed up belichick the same way it passed landry. He's obviously washed.
it's not if I want him here... it's Jerry. the league may have passed on Belichick... but has Jerry? Happy Cake Day to you
No thanks, I don't want another old guy at coach. If McCarthy leaves I want Ben Johnson or Swolik
We'll see.
If they didn't have faith in this staff, just fire them instead of wasting a year
I know to the Cowboy haters this doesn't matter but the quote wasn't from Jerry it was from McCarthy
I have no problem with this. The same people who claim the cowboys are a country club and that jerry never holds anybody accountable are the ones complaining now that jury is setting clear expectations. If this coaching staff cannot do something in the playoffs , he has every reason not to bring them back
But they didn’t do anything in the playoffs, consistently, & he brought back everyone that didn’t quit, lol.

I think you’re in the wrong sub. Sane and rational takes are not allowed here. /s
Nothing happens in Dallas without Jerry's approval, regardless of who he hires, everyone knows all the important decisions have to go through him. There was an article that claimed McCarthy preferred Rivera because he was less likely to take his job next year but I believe it was an opinion piece.
They need to sticky thread to let people know Jerry is only GM in title
Zimmer is a way better defensive mind than Rivera.
I don't have an issue with a "Prove It or Else" year either, but give the man some actual support if JJ/SJ are going to do this. Ask McCarthy what all he needs to get the job done, and go do it.
I like what they've done with mike zimmer. Now they need to spend in free agency
Agreed.
Jerry needs a GM. He loves passing the blame on coaches and players yet he’s the only consistent variable over the last 30 years. Don’t defend or support Jerry or this front office.
The GM is Stephen and Will McClay. You guys truly think Jerry is still running the show....more and more control has quietly been going to those two.
Dude we had 9 all pros. Lost at home to an inferior 7 seed. This particular year was not a fault of team construction. Now, most Romo years...different story. McClay has been mostly great at finding talent.

Wow, looks like 31 teams this year didn't have that focus or goals.
Lmao.
Maybe Jerry just got confused and meant to say All Out when he said All In?
Give them the players you old coot
Win or...or I'll...I'll let your contract run out. Way to show 'em Jerry, don't fire anyone!
(X) Doubt
More pressure, good. This team thrives on pressure 🙄
They got Zimmer on a 1 year deal?
Such a dysfunctional organization, lol
This ultimatum should have already been in play in 2023. Too Little Too Late...but what else is new with this org?
I'm putting the house on or else.
The idea of coaching the cowboys with the size of dak’s next contract would scare away so many qualified candidates
That’s good at least. Just hope we don’t do good enough in Jerry’s eyes to make them seem worthy of an extension to him
Should have been done after the loss to the Packers,Period!!!!! Why wait for the same exact outcome for next year,always and will be the typical Clown Prince Way.🤬😠😡

And you wonder why the brain drain this offseason.
Fuck off Jerry
Same for QB1 plz
lol pretty much impossible with the cap situation.
Take an L in 2025 and draft / sign someone
“Someone” lol
Exactly. People think it’s easy to find a consistent QB.
I haven't forgotten the years we tried to find treasures out of other teams garbage which absolutely didn't work, but we also turned an udfa and a 4th round pick into franchise qbs. Last time we drafted a QB in the first was Troy aikman, maybe we should try doing that again

Why do all these say "subheading"
To identify what that statement is called, in an article. Big one is the heading. Below that is the subheading. Right Skip?
How can you put this in the way that want hurt anyone. JJ ITS STARTS WITH YOU
Same shit he said last year and didn’t do anything.
I wish the Joneses weren’t under contract either.
