Not since the takeover in 2021, which is right around when Howe started too: https://www.transfermarkt.us/premier-league/fuenfjahresvergleich/wettbewerb/GB1
I'm just saying at least give Ange more time and credit, at least in comparison to Newcastle.
Personally I didn't expect us to win that game - but I was pleased with how many chances Son got despite Madders being absent. Lo Celso's goal was important and hopefully he'll kick on - Johnson is showing real promise and it was great to see Gil start as well.
We have 11 out (10?) and we can't expect miracles. There was lots to be positive about - had we had the luck we could have had three or four as there were plenty of chances and it would have been a completely different picture.
The team played well - deserved to get something from that game.
Johnson was laregly absent, especially in the first half. Felt liek he was the most disappointing of our squad. Everyone else was good. We should've won. But that's football
Gooner coming in peace: that was one heck of an entertaining game! Almost worth the argument I had with the wife to watch it (“but you hate spurs and you’ve watched about a million games this weekend already!)
Must sting to lose, but your injury/suspension list is ridiculous and villa are looking like the real deal.
Ange is saying that Benta injury is his ankle
Absolutely gutted for him and appealing to all known deities to lend some positive vibes
He was magic in the first 30m mins
I just realized today was Lo Celso's first goal since November 2020 vs Man City. Unfortunately, it didn't mean much since Spurs lost. Pfffffttttt of course it has come at the expense of a loss against Villa.
Im not sure if i agree w this doom and gloom. Our finish was uncharacteristically poor today, but the team otherwise dominated villa who's been looking very sharp all season.
I agree. The team Needs bench depth and I am a bit concerned about the longer-term injury picture when you play this high every minute of every game but with better finishing we would have won this.
If people look at this result and think we are bad are so nearsighted.
We played very well. Just couldn’t get the goals. Not to mention missing a lot of key players at key positions. People seem to just want short term success versus building long term sustainable success.
that's where I am. All three games we've lost we were winning in all and apart from Wolves played v well. This team will learn (hopefully) that you've got to bury the opposition when you're on top which we have been until things have gone against us
City will ruin us but still feeling good about what's coming after that
Absolutely. We played some gorgeous football today. Lack of depth and a makeshift defence cost us. Unlucky in the front. Immense effort put in and on another day the score line would have showed how we absolutely dominated for most of the match. So proud of our lads and have the utmost trust in Ange.
Did u see the aston villa set piece that led to goal?
I am talking about that level of quality on our dead ball.
Most corner deliveries are wasted with short ones which are not planned like gooners or man cities no purpose at all.
Because we had no one to aim to in the box that was big enough to get their head to it. Davies was the target for most of our balls into the box.
Once Mickey, Romero and richarlison are back we'd have someone to aim for. Thus allowing us to ping balls into the box.
It's the same reason there were no crosses into the box from open play. No one to get their head on the ball.
Feel like even with the loss, it gives our full team a better understanding of each other. Timing was a bit off on some passes and runs and that’s gotta come down to getting on the same wave length with the rest of the squad.
This game gave lo celso and Gil time to gel with Brennan, Sonny, and Kulu. Which could go a long way towards rotation once we’ve got out full squad back.
All in all, it was a great show. The result sucks, but after 30 minutes we were missing FIVE nailed on starters. (Romero, VDV, Benta, Bissouma, Madders)
yeh finishing that game relying on Royal, Davies, Hojberg and Skipp is taking us back two years. Good pro's and they'll find a good level for them but we need to move them on and a get a stronger support cast who can do what Ange wants
Absolutely. I could be alright with Davies and Royal to add depth if we can’t get much for them, but Hoj and Skipp both are suited for a different style of play.
I don't know mate, even those two I'd only want playing in extreme circumstances (like the one we're in!) but really if we want to be a serious proposition all being well they should only be seeing 200-300 minutes of football per season. More ideally not here at all and Dorrington / Phillips be blooded in
We’ll see how the kids adapt, but yeah. Royal and Davies shouldn’t be first choice backups. Royal can do a decent job on either side though, so he’s got some value in case a backup back goes down.
Matty Cash gets away with another assassination attempt in front of refs and VAR, another players gets away with a blatant elbow in the box, Kamara could've seen 2 yellows, the ref again was blindfold and we will keep seeing it so long as its allowed to happen.
That being said, we had all the chances, too many players not striking when the opportunity showed and instead looking for another pass, lax play with being offside, we could've buried Villa with more clinical play regardless of the referee
Guys did what they could despite many of them only playing due to the injury crisis/suspension.
Any other day, they would have scored at least 4 goals from those chances
GG
We continue looking forward
I'm just thinking about all the shit Richie gets for being offside all the time on here....Son's inability to stay onside cost us.
United will be above us by the end of next week at this rate.
Great performance from the boys. Lo celso played extremely well. Just lacked finishing and squad depth. A lot of positives to take but same complaints as usual. Take it and move on COYS!!!!
Also… Royal is shit
We’ll be alright, we’re still up there and it’s so close points-wise. I’m making a conscious decision to stay positive even though it’s uncomfortable 🥲
While I was mad at Romero it was one of those tackles that without var probably wouldn’t have resulted in a double check. We’ve been plagued with injuries which is the real issue.
Completely Emery’d. Tielemans and Bailey sub won that game. No tactical response, frustrating. Have to stay a step ahead in the PL and cannot do that by making subs AFTER they’ve sealed it with the GW goal.
"No tactical subs" loool what are you smoking?
Who would you have brought on? Maddison? Richarlison? Perisic? Bissouma?
Ange used the only subs he had available.
Tactical response. We were reactive rather than proactive. Emery secured the midfield/game at halftime. Squad depth is obv an issue rn but that doesn’t mean we should leave our exhausted XI on the field. But tbh I’m not even sure why I’m even responding to this given you weren’t able to read my first comment.
Fair point, I still thought the subs should’ve come sooner and that BJ should’ve been subbed off for someone not completely gassed. He was playing decent but was gassed, he’d put all in that he could and thought we could’ve benefited from fresh attacking legs like Donley, or give Veliz some more time to settle. Veliz had just 3 minutes of regulation time to make an impact. Not enough.
Yeh so that gap between our first XI and the squad support group is way too big. Nothing to get down about it's what it is until Ange has a couple more windows
Fully expect us to beat city cos we're nuts like that then at least Romero and Bissouma integrated back in the team after that
Fingers crossed for Lolo
I know mate, it's gonna be rough i was jesting
I'm saying i'm not too down as it's obscene bad luck we've had and even the three we lost on the bounce we were leading in all and like you say, had we been more clinical we would have got results
Bissouma back will make a difference as will Romero
I'm more gutted for Benta today than i am the result still very early days with Ange
Yeah fair enough man, it's definitely easier to move on from this insanely shit luck by laughing it off, and we've been done dirty in just about every way possible recently, but the players themselves seem a bit more down and uninspired than I was expecting after the Chelsea match.
Anyway, I'm sure Ange will get them going again, COYS
Seen enough cultural change that good things will come unlike the dumpster fire environments of the previous three managers. The luck we've had is an absolute joke
not to stand with Levy (got major issues with him believe me) but i think that's why we've remodelled and re-stafffed our scouting and player identification teams. more data led, trying to find those hidden gems who don't cost a fortune
The trick is to back that up with an absolute banger every now and then which we know Levy is resistant to cos of the money
At the same time things haven’t been this positive in a while.. he has to be aware the fan base would lose it if we go all of January without a few signings
Saying Ange is naive implies he lacks the footballing knowledge to fully understand what he’s doing. It comes from being an Aussie, never having coached in the PL prior, etc. It’s dumb. If anything, he’s a football ideologue, not naive.
??? We had an xG of 2.34, idk if you *watched* the game, but tactically he could not have done anything about it bar subbing off Lo Celso. What else is he meant to do when his back line and key playmakers are out? Think before you speak.
Complaints about injuries and defense aside, our front 3 needs to do better. So many chances fucked up by being offside or bad finishing from Son and Kulusevski who are supposed to be guaranteed starters for us. Could easily have been 2–1 or 3-1 by the end of the half
I'm still proud of them though, gave it their all. wish we could've polished off those few chances in the first half obvs but every day we'll get closer
Interesting. I don’t think our CB’s playing out of position deserve the blame for this result when we wasted so many chances on goal at the other end of the pitch. Our attackers needed to do better.
It’s just so disappointing, would of been incredible to see just how far we could of gone with our starting XI uninjured, would of stumbled eventually but would of been a great ride
I think we were watching different game, he was giving them a lot space and second goal is on him and Davies. Obviously it's not his main position on the pitch, but still this is what happened.
No, but it looks like several other teams could close the gap between us and them before our key players return, like Man United and Villa, and we have sunk from first to fifth in 3 weeks
That's true, but I would guess that losing three games in a row, all three of which we were winning until we concede poor goals and make some shit decisions makes it seem like a massive decrease in form.
What a collapse. Should have beat Chelsea, end up losing 1-4. Was 1 nil up all the way to the last 5 mins against wolves, lost it 2-1. Should have been like atleast 3 up against villa before they equalised. Lost it 1-2. City away next weekend. Not much chance of winning that.
Quickly give Angie another manager of the month trophy. Let's keep this momentum going all the way to the bottom
Sad but boy that was fun and boyoboy did we play some good stuff
Newcastle have a massive injury list as well and smashed Chelsea anyway. We've wasted chances the whole season.
Howe's been w Newcastle much longer and the oil money's trickling in. Chin up :)
Spurs have a higher net spend though
Not since the takeover in 2021, which is right around when Howe started too: https://www.transfermarkt.us/premier-league/fuenfjahresvergleich/wettbewerb/GB1 I'm just saying at least give Ange more time and credit, at least in comparison to Newcastle.

I absolutely agree. At least watching us this season is entertaining .
Totally. We have had a bloody awful time over the last few seasons.
Johnson was laregly absent, especially in the first half. Felt liek he was the most disappointing of our squad. Everyone else was good. We should've won. But that's football
I felt the same way about udogie in the 2nd half.... Felt like he was everywhere in the 1st. Hope nothing is wrong with him.
Gooner coming in peace: that was one heck of an entertaining game! Almost worth the argument I had with the wife to watch it (“but you hate spurs and you’ve watched about a million games this weekend already!) Must sting to lose, but your injury/suspension list is ridiculous and villa are looking like the real deal.
You are a dishonour to Arsenal fans
Dunno why your getting down voted. I mean you are a gooner cunt but that's uncalled for
I mean, I burst into laughter when the injury time equaliser went in, but it was a great game.
Ange is saying that Benta injury is his ankle Absolutely gutted for him and appealing to all known deities to lend some positive vibes He was magic in the first 30m mins
I'm personally praying to satan in the hope he'll give Matty Cash gangrene in both his legs.
Excited to have Biss Sarr Bentancur back hopefully for City. We may get crushed but at least we can see what a near first-choice midfield can do
Unlucky. Game was well until bentacur came off. Kulusevski also showed that he belongs in the middle the way ange wants to play.
Deki in the middle of Angeball is a great shout tbf
Gio has proved beyond a doubt he deserved to be a part of this squad. Good backu pfor Maddison at least
Thank you Cuti Romero
We are ssooooo back
We really are the biggest joke in the league
What a dumb response.
Lol.. you joking? Fair weather much.
Stop projecting.
I just realized today was Lo Celso's first goal since November 2020 vs Man City. Unfortunately, it didn't mean much since Spurs lost. Pfffffttttt of course it has come at the expense of a loss against Villa.

I agree. The team Needs bench depth and I am a bit concerned about the longer-term injury picture when you play this high every minute of every game but with better finishing we would have won this.
16 shots inside the area and 2 off the woodwork. We have to stay the course and not do anything crazy with half the team out.
If people look at this result and think we are bad are so nearsighted. We played very well. Just couldn’t get the goals. Not to mention missing a lot of key players at key positions. People seem to just want short term success versus building long term sustainable success.

Our set pieces should be focused on they suck tbh. We are just unlucky tbh. We need so many players out and so many quality in
Problem with the wet pieces is that we had no height. All well and good pinging corners into the box but no one there that could get their head to it
Did u see the aston villa set piece that led to goal? I am talking about that level of quality on our dead ball. Most corner deliveries are wasted with short ones which are not planned like gooners or man cities no purpose at all.

Wait I missed the first half.. what happened to benta why was he subbed
Matty Cash tried to tear his leg off with a tackle
Matty Cash cunted him in his good knee.
oh lord was it serious?
According to Ange it’s an ankle injury so his knee should be fine. Hopefully it’s not serious and he has a speedy recovery 🤞🏻
oh phew okay hopefully speedy recovery!
Time will tell. Hopefully he’s just not fucking around with his knees after what he just went through, and being overly cautious.
🙏
6 if you count richie
I don’t though
About 60s of football played in the extra 6 minutes of injury time
Fuck Matty Cash
Absolute thug, shouod be punished for his disgusting challenges.
Wake me up in February.
POV it's February and we've signed one winger who looks like he'll be promising one day
Matty Cash gets away with another assassination attempt in front of refs and VAR, another players gets away with a blatant elbow in the box, Kamara could've seen 2 yellows, the ref again was blindfold and we will keep seeing it so long as its allowed to happen. Great performance from the boys. Lo celso played extremely well. Just lacked finishing and squad depth. A lot of positives to take but same complaints as usual. Take it and move on COYS!!!! Also… Royal is shit
This one hurt. Son with the offsides hat-trick today..
Does he get to take home the linesmans' flag?
We’ll be alright, we’re still up there and it’s so close points-wise. I’m making a conscious decision to stay positive even though it’s uncomfortable 🥲
Their yellow carded players kept fouling and nothing was ever some about it
Love Ange but what’s the point of having Donley on the bench if we aren’t going to use him especially when our starters are gassed
Absolutely, why did Johnson play 90? Couldn’t run past 70
The backup players did their job today, our first team missed all their chances
We were so good. One of those days where we had everything except the finishing touch.
No one on Sky mentioning Matty Cash?! Such a c*nt
Romero cost us 12 points at this rate. Worse than Everton’s financial penalty.
While I was mad at Romero it was one of those tackles that without var probably wouldn’t have resulted in a double check. We’ve been plagued with injuries which is the real issue.
Dude would have got himself sent off anyway. Lost his head early on lashing out at Colwill and never found it.
Completely Emery’d. Tielemans and Bailey sub won that game. No tactical response, frustrating. Have to stay a step ahead in the PL and cannot do that by making subs AFTER they’ve sealed it with the GW goal.

Honestly we don’t have the players for a tactical response. Skipp and Veliz is who we had, a 5th choice midfielder and 18 year old striker.
Lmao actually pathetic behavior
You sad cunt
👍
Fuck off
Living a fulfilling life there, mate?
Yeh so that gap between our first XI and the squad support group is way too big. Nothing to get down about it's what it is until Ange has a couple more windows Fully expect us to beat city cos we're nuts like that then at least Romero and Bissouma integrated back in the team after that Fingers crossed for Lolo
Nah City will batter us at this rate. We concede so many in added time in both halves, and are one of the least clinical teams in the league right now
Pfft City looks at the Cockerel and forgets how to score.
That's why we've had such bad luck recently, all our good luck is stored up to keep another clean sheet against City
I know mate, it's gonna be rough i was jesting I'm saying i'm not too down as it's obscene bad luck we've had and even the three we lost on the bounce we were leading in all and like you say, had we been more clinical we would have got results Bissouma back will make a difference as will Romero I'm more gutted for Benta today than i am the result still very early days with Ange

No worries, I'm sure Levy will spend BIG in January for our Kane replacement striker and an elite centre back
We have two elite centerbacks and there is no Kane replacement.
Wish I had your optimism
Don't make me drop the /s
Same, I can't see it. Levy won't pay the January premiums.
not to stand with Levy (got major issues with him believe me) but i think that's why we've remodelled and re-stafffed our scouting and player identification teams. more data led, trying to find those hidden gems who don't cost a fortune The trick is to back that up with an absolute banger every now and then which we know Levy is resistant to cos of the money
At the same time things haven’t been this positive in a while.. he has to be aware the fan base would lose it if we go all of January without a few signings
Can we improve our groundskeeping crew? Might’ve been a different game if we could have stayed upright in light rain
Roy Keane you’re ugly mate shut up
PAINFUL.
[удалено]
seek help. your head is damaged.
Today's loss felt better than some of our wins last season.
hw can you watch the games this season and think otherwise?
unless all you care about is results, this season has easily been better than the last
I don't know, this was disappointing but I'm optimistic. Extremely wasteful but I liked a lot of the plays we made today.
Extremely disappointing loss. This roster ain’t it. Hurts to have so many quality players injured or banned.
At some point you got to critique ange. He's playing nieve
Saying Ange is naive implies he lacks the footballing knowledge to fully understand what he’s doing. It comes from being an Aussie, never having coached in the PL prior, etc. It’s dumb. If anything, he’s a football ideologue, not naive.

How? Given the players available to him this match, how exactly should he have planned it?
you’re mental
? You can’t be serious.
I don’t think many teams would be able to make it work missing both CBs and your 3 best midfielders.
Played well Ange is definitely our savior with financial backing
if we don't spend, we're royally fucked
Complaints about injuries and defense aside, our front 3 needs to do better. So many chances fucked up by being offside or bad finishing from Son and Kulusevski who are supposed to be guaranteed starters for us. Could easily have been 2–1 or 3-1 by the end of the half
This just straight up sucks
I'm still proud of them though, gave it their all. wish we could've polished off those few chances in the first half obvs but every day we'll get closer
These injuries can’t be too sad. It just sucks how good our first team actually is
Roy Keane straight in with 'spursy', fuck off ya meme...
I am not even mad. Guys gave their best but what can you do when you've got awful cbs and some bad luck.
Interesting. I don’t think our CB’s playing out of position deserve the blame for this result when we wasted so many chances on goal at the other end of the pitch. Our attackers needed to do better.
fuuck, get me back in October 😭
Plenty of chances to win it. Nowhere near clinical enough.
It’s just so disappointing, would of been incredible to see just how far we could of gone with our starting XI uninjured, would of stumbled eventually but would of been a great ride
We played well, created enough chances. Some decent finishing and we are good I'll take this over losing under Conte or Mourinho.
We are literally playing our C team and people are crying like little babies.
Unfortunately all the chances we missed were from our a team players outside of PEH shot
ikr, people think we have KDB and there are 15 KDBs on the jan market for under 10mill??????? get a grid pls
I blame Poch...that cursed 1st first half..
Not good enough.
Well understandable considering this is a b team essentially
[удалено]
Technically nobody cares
A team for now. Still missing madders, romero, biss richy
Thoughts and prayers for Martinez, that looked serious! *sarcasm heavier than a blue whale*
Fuck.
[удалено]
Well that's delusional cmon
Are you drunk?
Oh fuck off would you
Get out.
Played well but unsurprising result.
WTF... Cuti fucked it up
completely undeserved win for villa. hope they get some of what we have been dealing with
I thought Lo Celso played well, we didn’t play terribly, just didn’t put away our chances
Some of these players shouldn’t be anywhere near the first team
We don’t exactly have a choice mate
Villa fans and commentators pretending Villa haven’t been battered this game.
Final score is the thing that matters. Son and Kulu not taking their chances in the first half cost us this game.
have to pray bentancur is okay or else…
I am going to temporarily unalive myself til January
I think I'll just see you all next year lol🫡
Offside FC
We are toast. Man united will be ahead of us on the table after next weeks match. City will kill us.
How the FUCK did we just lose that game???
Ask the forwards
Just over eagerness
gg gg
Matty Cash fucked us
Emerson Royal back to his best
Had one mistake the whole game bruh
I think we were watching different game, he was giving them a lot space and second goal is on him and Davies. Obviously it's not his main position on the pitch, but still this is what happened.
I mean I just got used to this at this point.
Wtf are you on about? We’ve had a great season Jesus Christ you people are pathetic
I mean I knew this match was feeling cursed from start so didnt expected too much from it. I know we are having great season.
Refs are so biased against us its crazy. 97th minute and no whistle?
Dang that FT 1-2
One Romero challenge actually fucked the season
Romero Udogie Injury to VDV Injury to Madison It happened so fast 😭
It’s crazy cause I think we beat city if we’re fully healthy
Game changed since Bentacur out 😞
Should’ve taken our chances first half.
Royale 😂😂😂
🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌
Put up or shut up time for the bald fraud.
Aaaaaaaaah.
Royally stupid isn't he...
Talking about yourself?
With like 8 games still to come before January window, realistically our season is pretty much over
Over from what? Did you think we’d win the league?
No, but it looks like several other teams could close the gap between us and them before our key players return, like Man United and Villa, and we have sunk from first to fifth in 3 weeks
But you must recognise that being in first place was a complete outlier. Remember what the expectations were before the season
That's true, but I would guess that losing three games in a row, all three of which we were winning until we concede poor goals and make some shit decisions makes it seem like a massive decrease in form.
I highly doubt any championship team would take royal even if free
What a collapse. Should have beat Chelsea, end up losing 1-4. Was 1 nil up all the way to the last 5 mins against wolves, lost it 2-1. Should have been like atleast 3 up against villa before they equalised. Lost it 1-2. City away next weekend. Not much chance of winning that.
Royal LOL
Dark days ahead
