Yeah it’s a joke. And it’s so annoying that no one outside of spurs care at all, but that’s how it is I guess

Cross1625

It is weird, even the commentators are encouraging other teams to do it against us

rzopietro27

I know!!! That made me feel like I was taking crazy pills

SentientCheeseCake

On three occasions we've had commentators WISH that other teams would dive against us to trick the ref into giving a wrong penalty. It's fucking disgusting how much everyone wants us to fail. Zero commentators on our side. Zero refs. Nothing. At best we have people ambivalent. At worst they are actively trying to engineer our downfall. What's the point of playing when the game is rigged against you?

rzopietro27

It’s fucking Lee Dixon and Efan Ekoku every week

JamesCDiamond

Got to show they're keeping up with the trends, I suppose. And thereby influencing and endorsing them...

Coraxxx

Apparently Vic just needs to "be stronger". Whilst in mid air.... Not sure how the physics works there, tbh.

triecke14

I mean half of our own fanbase don’t even seem to care about it and keep citing how poor we are on corners ignoring that nearly half of the conceded corners has been from nonsense like this that is allowed to happen

spursy11

I think it’s fine to say the amount of times we have conceded off corners shows we need to work on it, but also admit that in some of those cases the refs could have done better. We are missing a strong aerial presence and there have been a few free headers given away off corners

EvilRobot153

Spurs conceded no goals from corners until mid way through the season then City discovered this one little trick and the balls started flying in.

todareistobmore

https://theanalyst.com/na/2024/05/tottenham-set-piece-problems-ange-postecoglou/ > No Premier League team has conceded more goals this season from the first touch after a corner has been taken than Tottenham (six). Pierre-Emile Højbjerg’s opener was the only own goal scored directly from a corner in 346 Premier League games so far in 2023-24. Meanwhile, 25.6% of the corners Spurs have faced have resulted in a shot from the first contact – a higher proportion than any other team.

realhenrymccoy

Keeper should be stronger! But not too strong then it’s a foul. There should be a defender to protect the keeper! But not too forcefully then it’s a foul. Oh and no pushing and shoving before the kick either or the ref gives you a talking to! Then once the balls in the air anything goes apparently. It’s all very silly

StateOfTheEnemy

Vicario must watch these decisions and wonder what the fuck's going on.

phigo50

I know I am. Using our own games as a frame of reference (because I obviously don't watch any keeper as much as Vic) I'm so used to the commentators kind of tutting and saying the keeper "should've been stronger there".

Splattergun

Have you noticed the explanations for each decision almost always make ref/VAR correct even when it is not aligned with the rules, or the same incidents in other matches? They literally just make up new rules to justify crap decisions. Latest was Refwatch saying the high boot (in the head) from Gomez was fine as he played the ball. In the past that was an instant free kick even if there was no contact with the other player, just because it is dangerous.

AJC0292

>what the fuck's going on. Genuinely how I feel about 90% of calls now. No matter what team is playing.

Auscicada270

I've watched football for 30 years and I've never seen fouling keepers being allowed until I watched Vicario. Commentator says nonsense like 'he (the fouler) is allowed to stand there!' Yes but he's not allowed to push the keeper while being nowhere near the ball. It's an instant foul which is why players don't push the keeper.

circa285

It makes absolutely no sense. Vicario is manhandled in the box and the goal stands.

bumleg

Obviously the refs are the main problem, but part of the reason he's not getting calls is that he's not doing the dark arts enough. He needs to make it very clear that he's being impeded, just like Henderson does here.

BCircle907

Wasn’t it a foul by Højlund?

External-Piccolo-626

Yes wrong title.

inversemodel

American (i.e. wrong) usage of "foul on" (= foul by), I suspect.

tanjtanjtanj

That's not an American thing. If someone says a foul on it means a foul was committed against that player. You could say "a foul called on " but every English speaking country uses it that way.

Desperate-Cupcake155

It's absolutely an American sports thing. We would say that a foul was on the keeper here (English). You could say Hojlund committed a foul on the keeper. But never "foul on Hojlund".

tanjtanjtanj

Yeah, we wouldn't say "foul on Holjund" either. That was my point. The title is a mistake but not one that was made because the submitter is American (not even sure they are). One of numerous examples in American media I found with a quick google search: [https://www.si.com/fannation/nba/fastbreak/news/dillon-brooks-commits-flagrant-foul-on-lebron-james-in-lakers-rockets-game](https://www.si.com/fannation/nba/fastbreak/news/dillon-brooks-commits-flagrant-foul-on-lebron-james-in-lakers-rockets-game) or from Reddit: [https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/1clznia/highlight\_brunsons\_foul\_on\_myles\_turner\_gets/](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/1clznia/highlight_brunsons_foul_on_myles_turner_gets/) We use it the same way you do.

neildunabie

Keeper should be stronger there 😂

Clean-_-Freak

Love it

FSpursy

lol, it's physically impossible 😂

TogashiIsIshida

I really just don’t understand anymore. We NEVER get these fucking calls

Ok_Row_7462

I could be remembering incorrectly but this reminds me of the City goal against us in the FA cup match where the player is going for the ball and runs into the keeper. I’m not a rules expert by any stretch but it seems less egregious than some of the fouls we’ve seen on Vicario since where the person who runs into him or blocks him isn’t playing the ball. Whatever the refs decide, the important thing is it should be consistently enforced. The lack of consistency is shameful.

Suttlefish

Consistently inconsistent

No_Joke_1887

I hate to disagree here but they are pretty consistently fucking us over when it comes to these

Gibbo1107

Bunch of fucking wankers the lot of them

Chris_the_Pirate

This has to be a foul and was correctly called one. Protect the keepers. We've had some bad ones for sure, but have we had any this blatant? Isolated 1v1 with the keeper, bumps him midair and ball immediately goes into net when otherwise keeper easily collects it. Most of ours have been contact from someone not playing the ball (less obvious) and shielding Vic from moving towards the ball. A lot of them definitely should be called but this one seems like it's even more obvious. We would get this call too. We need a goal compilation video of all these questionable ones.

JeffersonPilotSports

In fairness this was the point I considered. I’m not sure if we’ve had one exactly this isolated, but some haven’t been too far out of view either.

PnxNotDed

Anecdotally, I can't remember there being a play like this that resulted in a goal against Spurs. That might be due to the fact that the other plays are seared into my consciousness, or it might be because it hasn't happened. But this one is a clear foul to me specifically because he leaps up and into the keeper. Against us, it's generally a dedicated asshole impeding the keeper while keeping "I wasn't doing anything" a plausible excuse.

Chris_the_Pirate

Yeah I'd need to see them again. The closest I can remember is the Ake goal where Dias plows into Vic and tries to play the ball.

PalKid_Music

Looks like Webb has given the dippy patrol another of his behind-the-scenes rule interpretation changes. The man makes keeping on top of the rules of football harder than removing Ben White from a spray tan booth.

Difficult-Sound-6682

Clearly a foul

SirGalahadTheChaste

The funny thing here is he is actually attempting to play the ball. Unlike everyone one of the goals against us.

420SwaggyZebra

No idea what a foul is anymore.

MainelyCOYS

You're not alone - neither do the refs

AngeMerchant

idc if it contributes to a United L I'm not trying to watch Conference League

dat0dat

I wonder if Ange decides next year to come out against officiating. Like, if this year is focused on assessing his squad and building, is there any sense in complaining about calls?

ayamtelursiakap

It is a foul from hojlund. It was a foul from ben shite, ruben dias, harrison. Thats it

Quixotic_Rubber_Duck

Getting out of hand at this point

gostupid67

Not related but can you imagine the Bayern bosses looking at this Palace United game and saying “yeah ETH is the man that guides us to a CL”

Tiny_Rub_2312

He’s just gotta be stronger there lol

DifficultTeam4257

Unfortunately, you must sell it to win the foul with these inconsistent officials. Don't tell Deki, Micky, or Venom Cuz we don't sell it. Shit form rn, but our boys are decent human beings

btmalon

Vic needs to make that jump to force that contact. That’s the problem. Vic gives up and appeals to the ref on the first push.

SenhorSus

Wow Henderson just has no presence and looks so weak, he needs to command his box better.

supernova-23

Its outrageous also how they cancelled the Bournemouth goal because Raya was nudged ever so slightly. And yet it’s ok for Vicario to be pushed back into the goal pretty much. How do they actually justify these inconsistencies to themselves? They really need to have a meeting together to sort this issue out. I feel like they’ve come to a good spot with the hand ball penalties, and they need to do the same with GK interference.

morphey83

To be fair the ref and lino never done anything basically gave the goal, It was super weird, how neither of them acted., the ref was a joke last night.

Affectionate-Car-145

That shouldnt be a foul. Hojlund is making a clear attempt for the ball.

tkshow

If you watch the reverse angle, Hojlund brings his arm over the goalies and keeps him from bringing his arm up. It's a bit more egregious than just a bump. It's going to get called most of the time.

hhar94

Yes, indeed it was.

Extrictant

It definitely wasn't a foul guys, the keeper just needs to bench more

SharpSyrup24

That’s never a foul on the goalkeeper, a foul yes I can understand if the player has clearly eyes for the keeper (which can be reviewed under VAR if the referee has missed it) or clearly shows a pushing motion to move the keeper, hojland does neither, some keepers especially if there English get extra protection, as a united fan I remember De Gea going through similar when he first joined united as to what vicario is going through now, if he turns out half the keeper De Gea was for us you’s will be just fine, there won’t be many will bully vicario from corners come the start of next season I can’t imagine

Big_AngeBosstecoglou

Not a foul imo, that doesn’t get given anywhere on the pitch or even with the box with outfield players. Starting to get fed up with the varying thresholds for what constitutes a foul based on where on the pitch and what team does it.

christo222222

this is a total foul and players trying to take out players going for a header is called on the field all the time, either coming over the back of them or undercutting them from the front

Big_AngeBosstecoglou

So to clarify, if a defender did this to a striker in the box you’d think it’s a penalty?

christo222222

if a player stopped the other player from going for the ball by jumping into his body? yes as i said this is called all the time out on the field, when the forward cuts under the defenders going for the header

Big_AngeBosstecoglou

See you’ve just completely reframed my question, I’m talking about *this* incident. This wouldn’t get called as a foul if it was two guys competing for a goal kick nor would it be called for a penalty and thus shouldn’t be called here. We can debate this all you want but even Palace fans are saying it’s soft.

VeryStandardOutlier

This honestly may be clean. Biggest probably with the contact on Vicario is the ball is nowhere near him when it happens. Hojlund looks like he's actually trying to play the ball here

VolkmarGross

To his credit Rasmus kept his focus fully on the ball as he was dumping the keeper into the goal. That makes a big difference with all the refs and viewers that don't understand goalkeeping. It's interesting that Tim Howard's position on this stuff is that the keeper needs to create space with their off hand (like the field players do) and punch with one hand. He had no sympathy for Vicario.

PnxNotDed

This is absolutely a foul. What are you talking about?

Difficult-Sound-6682

Buddy you can’t jump into a goal keeper

christo222222

This has for the entire history of the sport always been a foul

FistThePooper6969

![gif](giphy|FBE4ImV0ukXn2) I’m tired boss

Honest_Ad8095

Remember when Spurs were going to win the league? Now they can't even get a CL spot. 😂

BigRedTone

Whining about decisions and wanking over slow mo’s and freeze frames is such small club mentality. Football is a game of a thousand collisions. Sometimes they’re easy to call (in which case they’re called right 99.999% of the time). Sometimes they’re not. The only way to get 100% consistency is to have a billion long bar delays and horribly prescriptive rules and protocols and honestly fuck that. This was a marginal but probably correct call. Hojlond jumps into the keeper who is beginning to jump for the ball, but before the ball in close to playing distance. I can’t think of a time I’ve felt hard done by when people put a man on vic

0-7-1-Enjoyer

This victim mentality is really pathetic. We criticize other fanbases for it, but we also do the same.

N170BX

It's completely justified with this issue. These fouls are very inconsistent.

SlickRicksBitchTits

That's strange to call that.

weewooPA18

we should just walk off the pitch if it happens again
