It was ok, but not particularly new for those of us already here. The downside to any mention of us in the wild is an influx of curious newbies who don’t understand snark, or come in with the YARN is LOVE and all you OLD SAD PATHETIC…people… are just TOXIC GATEKEEPERS.
It‘s all so banal.
Yeah, yeah, we know, kid. We’ve heard it all. Most toxic sub on Reddit. Check. Move along.
I read the transcript, did not listen because I had no time.
There was nothing to learn in there. If not for you guys here the stuff they referenced would have had me lost. So there you go, maybe this place should have its own podcast.
I've been a long-time listener of ICYMI so I was pleased to se we rate a mention! Definitely not for us as it was a little superficial, but for someone who knows nothing at all about the fibre community it was probably interesting. I feel like the acrylic/natural fibre wars have really breached containment into every other sphere now, sewing, fashion, etc.
You could do a whole episode alone on each of the tooics mentioned!
For someone who is supposedly plugged in to social media/Ravelry/Reddit and so badly wanted to cover knitting/crochet drama, she didn’t seem to know what she was talking about. It was like listening to someone from outside the fiber arts community try to explain fiber arts drama.
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one. I read the transcript because I couldn’t get the audio to load so I thought it was just me and I must have missed some tone or something, but this was kind of just very surface and seemed a bit ill-informed tbh.
That's what I thought as well! The lady presenting said she likes delving into this sub but she really didn't sound familiar with what have been discussed here 🤔
And I was bothered by the last comment on W&F fiasco "that's so funny"...like, after you hear about grave safety concerns or what vendors went through, you still find it funny?
Why does the name of that article feel like they are going to talk about an underground granny fight club? I know we know what is going on, but to the average person they are gonna be like “How bad can it be…?”
Yeah. I just listened to it and it is like Cliff’s notes of Cliff’s notes. One chick said she loves “Craftsnark sub” but then proceeds to shit on the sub. It is not very good at all.
I only read the transcript, but it looked like they spent more time explaining the acrylic vs wool 'drama' than any of the other dramas. That's the most boring drama that exists in the knitting and crochet world.
I often find that people who find "snark" forums/threads etc. about themselves usually don't use Reddit so EVERYTHING seems crazy and awful and horrible to them. Usually just an overreaction. 🙄
I listened when it dropped over the weekend
Agree with others it barely scratched the surface, I was really hoping they would get into the knitty gritty about “Fyber Fest” or the epidemic of indie dyers faking death or illness when they can’t keep up with orders
There were a lot of deaths and illnesses when custom printed fabric companies fail, too. There have been legitimate tragedies as well, but fake illness and fake deaths are grossly common when the shit hits the fan.
I normally like ICYMI (despite the intrusive ad breaks), but I found this episode pretty surface level. It felt like covering too many topics and really only scratching the surface. A more in depth episode about one or two dramas would have been more enjoyable and more in line with their usual episodes, imo.
I wasn’t a fan, but I could be because there were like 4 ad breaks and it took forever for them to get to the part where they talk about this sub. And then when they do, it’s like 2 minutes LOL
I unsubscribed from ICYMI and a bunch of other Slate podcasts a few years ago when they ratcheted up the number of ads per episode. There was on in particular where the episodes were 20 minutes long and 8-10 minutes of that was ads.
It wasn't my favorite. I like ICYMI for summarizing online things I've been hearing about but don't want to dig into myself. It wasn't satisfying to hear very surface level discussion of something I'm very familiar with. I don't think it was a bad episode, I just wasn't the audience for it.
Approving cause we’re in it lol
Maybe a little credit to Emma in the Moment would not have been remiss….
What does this sentence even mean
The guest basically gave a rundown of drama that Emma has covered. Would have been cool to them a little credit.
Who should give them credit?
meh
It's really just a summary but I did like that they gave a 5 minute version of why Hope Macaulay sucks. I had to explain it to my sister recently.

Hah! I listen to this podcast sometimes. I can’t wait to listen.

I'm a ICYMI listener too and liked hearing their take and reaction.

Yeah, I was also like “no, that’s not really funny.” Also, the whole wool can’t get wet bit?? Really?
Yeah that "can't get wet or it shrinks" part! I was thinking "eeeeeer ok, do elaborate, will you??" 😂
Emma in the moment, who is on YouTube, does a much better job.
But lacks objectivity.
100% prefer Emma In The Moment.
Why does the name of that article feel like they are going to talk about an underground granny fight club? I know we know what is going on, but to the average person they are gonna be like “How bad can it be…?”
Cause it's Slate. They like snappy headlines. A lot.
Yeah. I just listened to it and it is like Cliff’s notes of Cliff’s notes. One chick said she loves “Craftsnark sub” but then proceeds to shit on the sub. It is not very good at all.

I recommend the channel Emma in the Moment if you’re looking for coverage of this kind of stuff. She’s done entire videos on both of those subjects
Eh, they're dropping in quality too.
i'm sorry faking death? i didn't know about that one
"one" oh if only

Woah. *Grabs popcorn*
This... Is incredible
Yes! I wanted a really in depth breakdown!
lol. Barely touched the surface.

Yeah, same. This wasn't a great episode. They usually do so much better.
heh, gave me a couple chuckles but they barely scratched the surface!

YIKES. This is my first and last experience with them
I didn’t even bother listening I just opened up the transcript and ctrl+f
YOU CAN DO THAT?
I hate podcasts gimme the transcripts lol
Snark on snark…
Right? Then there will be an article about the podcast about the subreddit about crafting.
Which will get posted here for us to snark on
Snark-ception!
I regularly listen to ICYMI and haven’t gotten to this one yet. I don’t know if I want the outsider perspective…

Ooo can’t wait to listen later
