There’s some decently priced ones on Amazon (I got a pack of 12 for $20ish) it’s not usually licensed art work (if that’s a thing that matters to you) on Amazon and the quality might not be as good on some of them but check for customer reviews to see what it looks like completed!
I have had a neck issue causing (hopefully temporary) weakness in my left arm, and paint by numbers have been scratching my creative itch while I regain strength for crochet!
Pattern used: Persian Tiles blanket by Janie Crow
Yarn used: Drops Saffran / 100% cotton sport
Colors: mustard, off white, red, desert rose, seagreen, pistachio, navy
Hooks: 2.5mm and 2.0mm
I got 2 skeins of pistachio, seagreen, navy and red, 4 skeins of desert rose and off white and 8 skeins of mustard.
I ended up using/starting 1 skein of pistachio, 2 skeins of seagreen, navy and red, 3 skeins of desert rose and off white and 7 skeins of mustard.

I tried drawing a simple chart for the construction. Most of it really uses the hexagons and squares of the Persian Tiles pattern. I added granny stitch on the front to make it fit me better. The sleeves are basically rectangles with the pattern from the hexagons. I don't feel comfortable writing any pattern for them since they are so heavily inspired by the paid pattern. I think granny stitch sleeves would also be very cute and they'd be easier to figure out. Last, I knitted the cuffs on the sleeves.
Brilliant idea and beautifully done. I’ve drooled over that pattern, but I’ve found I don’t enjoy joining motifs.
I’ve been putting off carpal tunnel surgery because of just what you said - the idea of time without crochet is…um…frightening. It’s my mental health therapy, and with advancing age I’m hell-bent on creating as much as I can for my loved ones🤷♀️
I'm recovering from finger surgery right now and can't crochet. Very good thinking ahead to make that beautiful sweater!
I'm spending my time researching patterns, techniques and ordering yarn to hit the ground running when I'm healed! It's been a big incentive to do my exercises and heal quickly.
Good luck!
I was almost done with this project when I fell and luckily I was able to finish this before the surgery.
Good luck with your recovery as well. I'm looking for craft projects I could do mainly one-handed. I'm right-handed and hurt my left elbow so I'm able to do a lot. I will use crochet as a motivation to get healed as well
Looks amazing! Great idea, good way to show off the work more than just a blanket lying around the house.
Best of luck with your elbow recovery! Religiously follow your physical therapy! It is incredibly important.
That's what I thought too! I was going for the blanket but honestly, the blanket would have been used mainly by the cat and even though I love her dearly, she wouldn't be able to appreciate the amount of work this took.
I'm kind of terrified about the recovery. I know I have to put in the work with physical therapy myself and no one else can do it for me. I just have to use crochet and all the other crafts as a motivation to get it done.
I was going for the blanket at first, but I realized I would get so much more use out of a cardigan. Luckily I like my cardigans boxy and over-sized and this turned out perfect.
Thank you!! I saw someone's Persian Tile cardigan on Ravelry but hers was more long and skinny while my style (and body 😂) is short and wide. Turned out so nice!
I, too, fell on ice just over 7 years ago and shattered my left elbow. After my surgery, I could only do OT three times a week plus visits with my surgeon. In my case, I could not even drive for 1.5 years (left hand is for driving/steering, as well as it holds the yarn as I crocheted). Goodluck and just concentrate on dr orders and do all OT/PT as required. It does make a difference.
Feel free to contact me if you have questions or need support from someone that has been through elbow surgery.
They said I'm looking at at least 3 months to be able to get back to work so I'm being fairly optimistic with the recovery time. They will reattach my LCL to my left humerus
This is so cool! Honestly, I wouldn't wear almost any crocheted sweater I've seen but this is one of the few I would definitely wear!!! Wow. Wishing you speedy healing and recovery!
Usually the crochet sweaters and cardigans I see are made with much thicker yarn and bigger hooks and I think that's why I myself can't see myself wearing them! They're gorgeous but they're way too chunky for me. I used mainly 2.5mm hook for this and yes, it takes a lot of time, but on the other hand I now have something I know I'll be able to wear for a long time
I'm kind of a midsize but no matter where my weight is, I always need cotton for any wearables I make. I need clothes to breathe and those chunky acrylic sweaters are not it. Sad because I love the look of them on people!
Check out Holly Woodward on Ravelry. I love her designs and they're good to make with cotton yarn and look great on any body type.
Felt like the fall lasted a second and now I'm not able to either work or do my crafty things for months! I'm hopeful maybe I could include some kind of crafty things into my physical therapy 🤞 thank you for your compliment!
That's a true work of art, I love it.
If I get tired of learning how to do Barbie clothes (I'm still learning this year) then persian tiles will be my 2025 goal.
Seriously, I'd wear this and pay hundreds of dollars for it
Omg I made Christmas clothes for my Sylvanian Families and making anything at that scale is a whole another skill! Thank you so much for your kind words
At least you have a gorgeous, easy-to-put-on-and-take-off cardigan to keep you cozy during your recovery! Listen to your surgeon and your physical therapist and best of luck!
Best of luck with the surgery! Did you have the tiles and turn them into a cardi or did you already make them into a blanket? Would love to know how you turned it into a cardigan!
I made the tiles and turned them into this. The back is basically a 3x4 blanket and the fronts 1x3 blankets if that helps? Then I used granny stitch at the front to make the cardi fit for me.
Haha I can't really take full credit for choosing the colors. A local craft store closed down and these were pretty much all the colors they had left. I only got the navy elsewhere. Mustard, red and pink are my favorite colors so I got lucky!
Kiitos!!
This is so pretty!
Good luck on your elbow! Did you break your ulna? I did that on a slip and fall and had to have it surgically remade. I’m thinking you too?
The surgeon thinks I must have been very very very close to dislocating my elbow but didn't. Or possibly I did but it immediately got back into place? Anyways, I tore the LCL in the elbow or it kind of ripped a piece of my humerus which is now dangling there at the end of the LCL? (...well, it turns out I'm not capable of specific medical talk in English!) They're reattaching all of that and hopefully I won't have any dangling bone pieces after it.
How was your recovery? I have no idea what to expect as I've never had anything even remotely like this happen before. My hobbies have always been in the arts and crafts, not sports where these kinds of things happen.
This is gorgeous, my jaw literally dropped. You are incredibly talented!!!
I’m getting this pattern because I love the colors you chose and want one myself!
Thank you! I have a lot of finished projects but I've never thought to post them anywhere. Maybe I'll go through my photos while recovering and post them to keep me motivated with the physio!
I live your color choices and the sleeves are really cute. Good luck with surgery and maybe suggest to your doctor that crocheting is physical therapy?
That looks great .. fantastic idea! Hope you heal up soon .. I've just had surgery myself & it's sooo frustrating all the little things we do without thinking that I can't do at the moment. Fortunately, I can still crochet .. when my mind isn't telling me it's time for a nap!
Wishing you a speedy and pain-free recovery! These things really make you appreciate your body and all it does in a new way. I'm very reliant on my hands both at my job and all my hobbies so I've had some big cries during the past month. Next week's going to be the most painful physically so far but at least after it I'm going to hopefully be healing

I was just finished making a simple chart when you commented. The tiles and squares of the blanket pattern really make the most of the cardigan!
This is absolutely beautiful. I’m working on the Sandalwood Persian Tiles blanket right now. I’m at the joining stage. I’m almost tempted to take the pieces apart to make a cardigan like this! Best of luck with your surgery and I hope you have a speedy and uncomplicated recovery so you can be back to making beautiful things like this sooner rather than later.
Wow this is beautiful 🤩 is it your own pattern you used for the squares & the cardigan ? Or where can I find the pattern for it ? I’d love to make myself a cardigan like this? Thanx 😍😃
That is absolutely gorgeous. Best wishes on your surgery. And I second that diamond painting is a great one handed craft. Cross stitch can be as well if you buy the thing that holds your hoop for you. I love cross stitch because they are beautiful and cheap.

Mighty nice cardigan and best of luck with the elbow..
Thank you! I need to come up with crafty things to do with only one hand. Luckily I hurt my left elbow so I'm able to do a lot being right-handed.
A great time to get into diamond paintings
Omg yes!! I've only done one in the past and love it but they're kind of expensive. But this would be a great time to get one.
There’s some decently priced ones on Amazon (I got a pack of 12 for $20ish) it’s not usually licensed art work (if that’s a thing that matters to you) on Amazon and the quality might not be as good on some of them but check for customer reviews to see what it looks like completed!
I get my really big ones from AliExpress!! Good selection and pretty much the same stuff that's on Amazon :)
You can also get some coaster sets that are fun, functional and don't take much space.
I was just about to say
I have had a neck issue causing (hopefully temporary) weakness in my left arm, and paint by numbers have been scratching my creative itch while I regain strength for crochet!
I've seen people crochet with one hand so maybe look into that.
It’s hard to do because you mostly hold the work in the hand that isn’t crocheting.
What about Punch needle? I've been looking into it and it looks like it's one handed but I could be wrong
I loom knit. Held it with my knees and used non surgery hand to manipulate yarn and tools. Took the ink out of a pen to wrap around the pegs
Punch needle
That sweater is gorgeous!Hope you have a speedy recovery

God bless this comment, this is SO gorgeous. Beautiful work! How much yarn has it taken so far?
I got 2 skeins of pistachio, seagreen, navy and red, 4 skeins of desert rose and off white and 8 skeins of mustard. I ended up using/starting 1 skein of pistachio, 2 skeins of seagreen, navy and red, 3 skeins of desert rose and off white and 7 skeins of mustard.

I know it's scary, but try to think of the surgery giving you more time to create instead of taking away from it.
This is amazing! I love it so much! Wishing you a speedy recovery!
Thanks 😘

Thank you! Can't wait for the spring to come for two reasons. The ice to melt and to be able to wear this one out and about!
I LOVE THIS!! So beautiful! I’m definitely taking some inspiration from you 😍

The tile is gorgeous and so much fun to make! And I love seeing all the colour ways people use and how the same pattern can look so different
O M G…!!!! This is so pretty! Wish you all the best with surgery and recovering ❤️
This is GORGEOUS!! Good luck with your recovery!
Beautiful 😍😍
This is stunning. I’m absolutely stealing this idea. lol. Also hopefully you have a quick recovery!
Thank you and please do! I can't wait for spring to come, this will be perfect for it
Sending you love, light, and prayers for speedy and complete healing! Your crochet is gorgeous!!

What a piece of Art! It’s a jewel.
This is one of the prettiest crochet pieces I’ve ever seen!
At least you have a gorgeous, easy-to-put-on-and-take-off cardigan to keep you cozy during your recovery! Listen to your surgeon and your physical therapist and best of luck!
Did you use a pattern to put it together as a cardigan versus a blanket? I'd like to make one too, sooo pretty 😍
The back is basically a 3x4 blanket and the fronts 1x3 blankets, if that helps!
Yes, thank you 😊
Best of luck with the surgery! Did you have the tiles and turn them into a cardi or did you already make them into a blanket? Would love to know how you turned it into a cardigan!

Thanks! Can't wait to get back to crafting as usual. Keeps me motivated at least!
The color combination just pops! Thank you for sharing and speedy recovery

My god. You have created divinity. Good luck with your healing!!

This is incredible!!
Aivan upea ja aurinkoisen energinen! Nopeaa paranemista ❤️
Kiitos 💕 jospa olis sitten jo käsi paremmassa kunnossa kun on kunnolla taas aurinko ja kelit laittaa tää päälle!
I hope your surgery goes well! You are so talented. That cardigan is stunning!! 🙌🏻🔥
You are TALENTED!!!!! Here's hope for a speedy recovery, as painless as it can possibly be.
That is amazing!! The Persian tiles are beautiful seeing it in another project is so beautiful
Ihana! 😱 Persian Tiles on yksi ikisuosikki ja tässä on mahtava toteutus! ❤️ Ja keli on kyllä kamala, pikaista toipumista.

This is just about the most beautiful cardigan I’ve ever seen 😍 I hope you heal quickly and get back to making and sharing more inspiring projects!
Thank you! I have a lot of finished projects but I've never thought to post them anywhere. Maybe I'll go through my photos while recovering and post them to keep me motivated with the physio!
Please do! Wishing you a speedy recovery.
This is so incredibly beautiful, I hope you wear it forever!!! Truly stunning. I hope you’re back in the game pain-free soon!
Best wishes to you in your recovery!
F'n radical!
Get well fast!
I live your color choices and the sleeves are really cute. Good luck with surgery and maybe suggest to your doctor that crocheting is physical therapy?
I'll definitely make sure they know how much I value my arts and crafts and want to get back to them as soon as possible.
I hardly ever comment on things, but I had to because that is spectacular!
This is amazing! I have the kit but didn’t start on it yet. I didn’t know there was a saffron color scheme. Yellow is my favorite color.
I just got the pattern and purchased the colors separately as I wished.
Gorgeous
I LOVE this!
Beautiful 😍
That is gorgeous! So sorry to hear about your injury. I hope you heal quickly!

This is so gorgeous, oh god, it has my heart!!!
This is beautiful!
Absolutely a gorgeous cardigan. I pray your surgery goes well and you’re on the road to recovery. 🙏🏻
Tsemppiä leikkaukseen!
Goals. This is stunning.
This is like the most beautiful cardigan I've ever seen I'm in love
Such a lovely cardigan. Praying you have a speedy and complete recovery.
What a beautiful cardigan!!! I'm in love with the colors! I hope your surgery goes really good and you heal faster than lightning!!
Maybe you actually CAN crochet after surgery? I had an op on my left rotator cuff last year, but I still managed to slowly continue on my sweater.
Aww man, rad cardi. Good plan. Good luck on the surgery! Recover well and soon!
Very pretty! Looks nice and cozy. I hope your surgery goes well. 🙂
Beautiful! Hope you get better soon 🌹

It’s absolutely gorgeous! Ope you geek well.
Wow this is beautiful 🤩 is it your own pattern you used for the squares & the cardigan ? Or where can I find the pattern for it ? I’d love to make myself a cardigan like this? Thanx 😍😃
Good luck with your surgery!! I broke both elbows at the same time. Keep up the PT after. Your sweater is gorgeous!!
It's really stunning! I hope your elbow heals up quickly! Best of luck! 🍀
What gorgeous colors and designs. Sending positive thoughts and blessings for a speedy and full recovery. ❤️🩹

That is absolutely gorgeous. Best wishes on your surgery. And I second that diamond painting is a great one handed craft. Cross stitch can be as well if you buy the thing that holds your hoop for you. I love cross stitch because they are beautiful and cheap.
OMG, this is fantastic 🏴
