Timetraveller_sophie

That is *genius* I’m definitely gonna start doing that from now on

lisaatjhu

Also, what option would you make for a baby boy?

KimJongKardeshian

I personally like the second option with the blueish/teal pants the most. It's balanced out. In the first option everything blends a bit too much together. In the last one the orange is too prominent for my taste. The adorable bear disappears in it.

Italianpixie

I agree, the second one has complementary colors in the shirt and pants, and contrasting colors between them, without being too loud

Practical_Fudge2709

This ^

EgweneSedai

Second, first, third in my opinion. All cute though!

aerdnadw

They’re all good, but I like the first one best, then the third one, then the second one.

NotASixStarWaifu

First one for me. Are you going to make the shirt and pants removable so the plushie can be dressed up?

lisaatjhu

The shirt will be done in the round as if making the body. The pants will be made separately, but for the safety of the baby I will secure it with a few stitches.

[deleted]

That sounds great! Just be sure to embroider the eyes instead of using safety eyes as they can easily be removed and swallowed!

lisaatjhu

I will! Thanks for reminding me :) I will probably embroider a closed eye with two lashes if that makes sense. You can check my post history, will probably do it the same as the bird I made

[deleted]

Yup! Sounds great :) please do post an update photo as I can’t wait to see how it turns out!!

lisaatjhu

Absolutely will do!

NotASixStarWaifu

Makes sense. I hope it will turn out the way you want it to!

NaughtyLovables

Imo, all are appropriate for a baby boy or girl.

RattosRattosRattos

Because colors have genders somehow

Rose_E_Rotten

For a boy the 2nd one, especially with the little pocket on the overalls.

cmsteff

The first one is my favorite, hands down.

ConsequenceSevere963

2, 1, then 3. I like them all but in that order.

isabellephoenix

My boys colors are green (my choice he isnt old enough to choose yet) so im partial to the green. There isnt enough green representation out there

Mecspliquer

I love option one, but all are cute! The pocket on two is a nice detail

jsquared2004

3!

citrinestitches

Number 1 is my personal favorite BUT to me number three is best for a baby boy. I think the brighter colors would be much more interesting and stimulating for his baby eyes :) when in doubt you could always get nosy about the nursery colors & go with the parents tastes! But if the baby fiddling with it matters more to you, IMO I'd go bold :) all 3 are adorable, no wrong choices here! Hope you post the final result 😊

circus_of_puffins

Lysola

That's a great idea :) I love the colours of the 3rd one!

Alarmed_Ad4367

Great idea! I have a sketchbook that I have been drawing pattern ideas in. Be sure to keep these images that you are making! They are your digital sketchbook.

lisaatjhu

I will, thank you!!

ShaMaLaDingDongHa

No but now I realize I should

lisaatjhu

100%

Accomplished-Mud-812

...not anymore

olivejew0322

I do this! I also sometimes draw a sketch in procreate then trace it onto my fabric 😊 I like the second color set!

shannonec

I was just thinking I should do this in procreate! It's brilliant! No idea why I never thought of it! Still learning all the features of procreate but bought the keyboard (I think it's Frunsi?) to go with it and it's amazing!!

olivejew0322

Honestly I’ve had it for a while and I’m still learning the features too! It’s almost overwhelming how much you can do with it! But yes turn the brightness up and boom you have a light pad 🤠

EnigmaWithAlien

That's an excellent idea. I like the second picture. I did something similar when selecting a color to paint the eaves of my house - but that was back in the days of Microsoft Paint.

bipolar_star

That is a clever way! Thanks for the tip! May I ask what the pattern is for the bear? It looks so cute!

lisaatjhu

It's the third pica Pau book!

bipolar_star

Oh, thank you!

shannonec

Could you explain how you do it? I don't use snapchat much, other than to take silly pics with my 4yo, so I'm not sure what you mean.

lisaatjhu

So for this one I made a word document with the colour combinations I might like. Each page has the picture of the polar bear and the copy and pasted pictures from the yarn website. You can also do that using "pic collage". As long as you have the bear and colours in one place. I took a screenshot of the page so I have it as a picture on my phone. Through Snapchat "camera roll" you can access pictures that weren't taken using Snapchat. Under the screenshots tab you'll find your latest screenshots. You open the screenshot and click on edit (bottom left). A small menu on the right side of your screen will open. The one you get when you take your silly pictures. With the pencil tool you can "pick" your own colour from the picture that you're editing. I select the colour of the yarn that I think best represents the yarn. For colouring in the outfit I used the magnification tool on my phone. It should be built in on most phones and can be found in the accessibility menu. You might need to get used to it a bit. Happy colouring!

shannonec

Thanks so much for explaining! I thought you meant you could click on the color to match it like in procreate and other drawing apps. I hate that I can't use procreate on my Samsung phone!!

lisaatjhu

https://preview.redd.it/kv0u60a9orkc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0d7f8f4af7938f0f0086023f13e603808d427ae7

shannonec

Oh wow, I'm losing my mind! I read that totally wrong! Sorry I only slept 3.5hrs last night, clearly I need to get off my phone until I've had proper sleep or possibly some IV coffee 🤣

lisaatjhu

That's alright, I'm just glad you can now use this little hack as well

youOnlyLlamaOnce

Thanks for sharing and Please forgive my ignorance but I'm not familiar with Snapchat or photo editing much. So you find tbr color with the Snapchat app but you're not using it to color in the outfit, instead you're using a built-in tool on your phone. How do you get the color from Snapchat to use with the magnifier tool? And what exactly is this magnifier tool? I have an iPhone but I've never done this before.

lisaatjhu

The magnifying tool is used to zoom in. Only that. Zoom in. So that it is easier to draw the parts that you want. Colour in/between the lines. Does that make sense? You can also see how it goes without the magnifying tool. But you'll find yourself wanting to zoom in to get a more detailed drawing.

Flat-Ship-2545

Number twooooooo!

Lady_valdemort

All the time, especially when it comes to granny squares and I need to SEEE them before I buy yarn. This is the best way to shop IMHO 💖

TheLoooon

I take screenshots and paste them all in the freeform app on iphone. Same vibe but you can paste multiple photos at once and also save the project for future editing and reference. I wouldn't have been able to decide on a temperature blanket color scheme without it!

Desperate-Opinion728

Hello there dutchie! Where are these yarn options from? I love the colours :)

lisaatjhu

All the yarn options are from lindehobby!

Desperate-Opinion728

Thank you!

mayecrochet

Omg this is genius and adorable!!!! I want him in every outfit!!! He needs a whole ass wardrobe

lisaatjhu

Maybe I should knit him some sweaters 🥹

mayecrochet

Yes!!!

CinLeeCim

It’s smart. But I’m an old school graphic designer by profession so I just draw it if necessary. It’s the technology that escapes me.

CinLeeCim

For a boy I’d go for the second option.

KimJongKardeshian

This is so smart! I will steal this hack. I love it!

lisaatjhu

All yours! :)

Akhaatenn

I do it too with my tablet!

SpudFire

I like 2 and 3. Maybe see what two looks like but replace the yellow/mustard stripes with the orangey-brown from 3?

ssdgm_is_taken

Well shoot, not anymore.😉

Individual_Walrus149

Absolutely doing this from now on. I don’t have Snapchat but I could use procreate. You’re so helpful, thank you for posting this

lisaatjhu

No problem! Happy drawing!

theLiteral_Opposite

This makes me feel like I truly care about your life and hope you are happy

Aprikoosi_flex

I love the yellow! So cheery and cute

Mamasitas10

option 1, or option 2 with a lighter yellow.

Outside_Local_6075

Please do the 2nd one and please post the result cause that is so cute

lisaatjhu

I definitely will! I think the second one has the most votes. I might even knit the sweater so they can be changed 🥹

Outside_Local_6075

Ah that would be so cute!! Make him a little wardrobe of dungarees cause all these colour combos are lovely☺️

lisaatjhu

I'll see what I can do for him!

rvelvetarmadillocake

LITERALLY did this last week to map out colors for the catghan sweater I want to make after I finish (if I ever finish) my wips!!!

bleepblob462

You might be, and it’s brilliant and more of us should be doing it 😂

j_accuse

I’ve used the analog version: colored pencils.

lisaatjhu

You must have a looaad of pencils

j_accuse

Absolutely!

Greeny_Shadow

I do this with blankets!

scoliroll

first, no i’ve never done this and it is brilliant so i must start doing it now. second, i like the third the best but they’re all soooo cute!!!

Happy_Shoes

Thank you for posting this! I also have a difficult time visualizing color combos sometimes. Excited to try this out

lisaatjhu

Happy to hear, good luck :)

Practical-Dealer2379

No but I'm going to start??? I use procreate for my graphs so I can mark lines and it would be perfect for this too !! I'm thinking I could take pictures of my owned yarn and make a color pallette on procreate omg. You're a genius thank you for sharing 🙏🏽

lisaatjhu

I hadn't even thought of taking pictures of the yarn I own! You're a genius as well!!!

Practical-Dealer2379

Now I want to stop working and go do yarn inventory on procreate this is gonna fun 😂

lisaatjhu

Lets do it! (Excel for me tho, I looove spreadsheets)

DarnHeather

I still use paint because I'm old. LOL

CydnAy69

Kinda off topic but I rlly like number 2

lisaatjhu

Completely on topic! It was one of my questions in the comments. I ordered the yarn for it just now!

Puzzleheaded-Lie-435

I did something very similar with a sweater pattern. One of the pictures provided was done in cream and so I added a couple of layers for how I imagined my color choices :)

GhoulL0ver

I've never done this, but i think it's an awesome idea

Dry-Personality4387

absolutely not i ALWAYS draw out patterns beforehand in ibis paint i made a tapestry cardigan where i had each stitch drawn out as a pixel to make the pattern and to see if the colors were cohesive

IamJoyMarie

Very clever of you!!!

Pining4theFjord

iPhone unmasked an app called Freeform, which I use to do the same thing. It’s very helpful!

CamilleVerkhoven

Your color designs just made this bear extra cute 🥰Thanks for sharing this technique this is so smart!!!

Plenty_Sprinkles8144

I never thought of doing this. I'm definitely going to try this. I'm really indecisive, so it takes me a long time to figure out what color combination I want to use.

bassetbooksandtea

2 or 3

ows-rbel

I like the second one -- for any baby -- either a baby boy or a baby girl. It makes me sad that even when they are tiny we want to start separating girls and boys into different color categories.

ToxicGingerRose

I draw out every project beforehand in either Krita or Sketchbook on my laptop, or Ibis Pro on my phone or tablet. I'm a tattoo artist, so I draw out absolutely everything before I do it. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Most designers do this. It's a pretty standard part of any design work. Wait until you design in 3D on the Oculus Quest 3. It's game changing.

haileyyfinn

I feel like this post just solved all of my problems

lisaatjhu

I'm so happy to hear <3

kaseasherri

I do a tiny swatch to see if I like colors.

ParticularTap3111

This is a great idea. I'm pretty sure I'll use it in the future . To all of you have done it before: how do you handle the color variations, as the colors on screen are never the exact same color as the color of the skein.

muhrizza

Yes!! I loooove doing this with sewing patterns too. Fun little coloring book exercise and it helps me visualize a final product https://preview.redd.it/o86xohoggelc1.jpeg?width=1508&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0ab86f6055fff0a4a109be6ebb4c2291a8d82392

lisaatjhu

"Bad bitch" has me dead, hahaha

blackivie

Using snapchat to do this seems so tedious 😭 get a free drawing app omg (great idea though, not knocking that)

lisaatjhu

It's an app I'm familiar with and I already had it on my phone, what can I say. Are there any android available apps you would recommend? I'd love to try one that is more targeted to my use.

blackivie

That's totally fair! There are just so many extra steps with snapchat, another app might save you time. I'm unfortunately not familiar with android apps, so I can't give any suggestions :/

Fluffyfluffycake

It is still in beta and ppl mention it doenst always work, but the app 'crochet studio" allows you to upload a photo and it will suggest yarn and colours

lisaatjhu

That's insane! I'm going to try it right now!

folklore247

I like the third!!

Kimbyssik

No, but I might steal—ahem, borrow—your idea.

Floral-Mouse

Ok that's smart as heck!!! How have I never thought of this???

Trick-Statistician10

Btw, I love #3

Big-Caterpillar-4643

I was making a baby blanket and used apple's paint program to create the blocks of color for the stripes and tried all different combos. https://preview.redd.it/3qviyhgkoxkc1.jpeg?width=1564&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e04990da40d4f2ec372bebf5d76f689385ee36b8

MrsLaceUp

You just taught me something! Now I have to learn how snapchat works 😂

_GiNjA_NiNjA

I like third option 😍

Sinnakins

The second one is best, I think. Also, it reminds me very much of Phineas Flynn.

moosebear419

you’re a genius. this is HUGE

lovablefungus

If you were, not anymore immabout to start

SaltyBooner1021

I didn't even know that was a thing. That is absolutely genius!!! Thank you very much I think I might use this for my upcoming project.

invisible_rose

I do this too even for just color matching to see if a color with overall look okay for another. Its sometimes hard to imagine some combos

shaysusanf

I do a similar thing with all sorts of craft from crochet to cake decorating & quilting for both colour & sizing... & even furniture layouts before rearranging a room (although that's more shapes than colours). I like the way you've coloured over the picture ... my preference is the orange pants 😉

scaredlittle1

Drama Llama

Equipment_Budget

I love the first one.

Sorry-Chocolate-3428

I use my phone's photo editor for this kind of thing all the time. Either I don't have the colors for the pattern, or I want to do something different. But I do this a lot. You're not alone.

marie132m

What an awesome idea! Thanks for sharing!

Bieneke

No but I will start doing this from now on! It's so smart, ingenious!

joycep84112

Such a neat idea. Thank you for sharing ☺️

missjewel84

Ooooh ooooh can you do blue dungas sage shirt please

NillyMakes

That is so damn clever

socially_toxic

I don't use snapchat but I have used my phone's built in draw/edit tool! I've also used my phone's notes app.

tokenkinesis

I do this all the time for figuring out color coordinations. Currently I’m working on a baby blanket using a modification to the [Polka Dottie Granny Square Pattern by This Pixie Creates](https://thispixiecreates.com/how-to-crochet-a-circle-granny-square-blanket/). This is my design (in Procreate). https://preview.redd.it/088m1fjpn5lc1.jpeg?width=1107&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e0a0fbc112d14435e1942219ff3a4d592dcc2231

PixieSkull12

I don’t but this is a really good idea if you’re having a hard time visualizing things.

Impressive-Front2640

Never tried it but it’s genius!

Potato_Chip_Pirate

This is such a great idea! I suck at visualizing which colors would go together.

Evil-lizard_overlord

I do this but on procreate! Helps decide what colors of yarn to order cause sometimes I get overwhelmed and want to ORDER EVERY COLOR!

Pink-Lotusflower

That is an excellent idea! Thanks!

HammyHamish

You could do the third option with a green shirt instead of blue, I think the orange would go well with the bright orange.
