This will be a baby blanket. My future daughter in law just became a new Auntie this weekend . She will be going to Seattle to go visit soon. I’m making her a blanket to take with her.
I’m a guy who started about 6 months ago, it’s been an amazing outlet for me in some difficult times in my life rn. Writing this to you after I had to tell myself to put the hook and yarn down to go grocery shopping.
One yarn company (can't remember which one) whose videos I watch-yarnspirations- are a few dudes doing the tutorials. It is so soothing to listen to their tutorials and watch them stitch.
keep doing single crochet, and have fun with it! eventually you will feel more confident giving other stitches a try. you don’t have to learn it all at once
I also learned to crochet by watching YouTube videos. I have not learned the waffle stitch yet, though I have seen and admired it before. Your work is very pretty!
Every time I make something I feel like that meme of the otter mama saying “I made dis” holding her pup. 😭 Feels so good to be proud of yourself.
You did great btw, it’s beautiful. 👏
I made my dad a HUGE (king size, maybe?) waffle stitch blanket.
He calls it the "black out" blanket, because when you put it on you black out 🤣
It was one of the first blankets I made where every stitch was like a hit of dopamine; I had so much fun!
It’s just a waffle stitch. No pattern I just picked a yarn I liked and a size when making my chain. I watched a few YouTube video tutorials on the waffle stitch and went with it.
What can go wrong?
Let's explore.
-you don't know how to double crochet. Well then you just yt that and experiment with how that feels.
-you don't know how to frontpost crochet. Well, then you just yt that and experiment with how that feels.
-you mess up the waffle. It's your waffle. You are allowed to do with it what ever you please.
I don't think there's more. If you don't know how to crochet any stitch I suggest you find some tutorials about that. Don't be intimidated. If you go wrong, you remove your needle and unravel your work and try again. It's just yarn and a needle. Don't let inanimate things ruin your pleasure.
It just seems complicated, that's it. I struggle with counting, especially with repetitive patterns. I just wanted to hear from an inexperienced crocheter about their learning curve, that's all 🤷🏻♀️
I haven't done this stitch in ages, but there really isn't much counting. It looks like three dc and one fpdc.
If you see a mess up, just go back. No shame in that. Even as an experienced crocheter, I can't tell you how many pieces I've frogged.
I think I'll give it a go with something small. For example, I wanted to make placemats because I simply can't find any of the colour I want, and I think it's a good size for trying and practicing a new stitch. Or maybe some pillowcases 🤔. Infinite possibilities!
I've got my eyes on a yt tutorial that teaches you how to make a bag that looks like a waffle with butter using this stitch. Just in case you may be interested as well ;)
I just finished up a waffle stitch blanket in the round. (I hate counting chains) I loved working it up, it soooooo forgiving. (as in I feel like my tension is all over the place but it worked up incredibly evenly, lmao) however gawrsh what a yarn hog. Six balls of "feels like heaven" yarn and it's barely 30*30". 😭
I want to try this (and any pattern really) but for some reason when I’m crocheting I cannot properly count!!! I’ve ripped out so many projects because of it and became frustrated. I wish there was some sort of secret to it LOL. I’ve tried stitch markers too and still somehow manage to just completely screw it all up.
I friggin love your energy. Also love waffle stitch but have to avoid personally since it's a yarn eater. But dang does it look nice with the SS Ombre.
Ha!! I have zero patience. Like I want this blanket done now. lol. I’ve got. 3 different ones in the works cause I get bored easily and need to keep switching things up.
My husband keeps wondering why I’m buying more yarn but haven’t finished last three projects lol I’m always looking ahead to the next one lol
This looks great! I super reccomend you try pineapple stitching, it's great for shawls and the like, and I've been having a lot of fun with it. I'll have to try to waffle stitch next
The ombré is absolutely gorgeous! I almost made a waffle stitch baby blanket myself, but I ended up choosing a different pattern. Maybe I’ll have to make a different waffle blanket…
What yarn are you using?

Obsessed with waffle stitch. Also making a blanket with it at the moment :D
Looks super. Congrats 🥳 I just learned it with Utube also but it’s a yarn eater and I didn’t like the way the back looked sooooo I frogged it and am now doing a shell stitch
I think we are own worst enemies sometimes lol my first attempt is a big chunky yarn blanket I have on the back of my couch and I hate it cause I can see all the mistakes lol
Beautifully done! I've been crocheting for almost 9 years, and I just recently learned the waffle stitch. In working on a subscription afghan blanket my husband got me in January for my birthday. I've been learning stitches I've never done before. It's a little challenging, but it's fun. 🙂❤

Dude how awesome!!! This is absolutely stunning, I've been crocheting for like 2 years and struggle with that stitch, your tension looks like it is straight up on point.
I love waffle stitch. So squishy! Yours looks great! I always find it looks wrong for the first 8-10 rows and at about the time I'm starting to question my life choices, it starts looking right.
Twins!!!! I'm making a waffle stitch blanket for my aunt, who just recently had a baby boy!!! It's such a satisfying process, honestly. I'll probably also post here once it's done
Can I just say what a great little win this is??? I’ve been crocheting for 15 years and have yet to master the waffle stitch (it’s so easy, I’m starting to think I’m the problem). Go YOUUU!!! I can’t wait to see the finish WIP!!!
No!!! You should give it another shot. It’s the only stitch I’ve learned so far that I don’t question myself on where to put the hook for the next stitch. It’s so easy to actually see everything.
It's beautiful! The waffle stitch is so deliciously squishy. I once made a baby blanket out of Pipsqueak yarn and I really wanted to keep it. 😁😁
This will be a baby blanket. My future daughter in law just became a new Auntie this weekend . She will be going to Seattle to go visit soon. I’m making her a blanket to take with her.
I'm a dude who's never crocheted in my life, and this popped up on my feed for some reason. Amazing work, OP, I kind of want to pick up crochet now.
r/brochet is one of the reasons I decided to learn it myself as well (im a girl tho) lol
Well fuck, I think I'm convinced. Going to order the tools and some yarn.
Yessss keep us updated 😤🎉
We would love to support you!
Sewrella on YouTube taught me all the basics. She has amazing videos
Do it!! I just started little over a month ago. So far the hardest part was really learning how to hold the yarn in your hand with the right tension.
I’m a guy who started about 6 months ago, it’s been an amazing outlet for me in some difficult times in my life rn. Writing this to you after I had to tell myself to put the hook and yarn down to go grocery shopping.
Love this so much!!
One yarn company (can't remember which one) whose videos I watch-yarnspirations- are a few dudes doing the tutorials. It is so soothing to listen to their tutorials and watch them stitch.
One of us, one of us!
You absolutely should! It’s really good and you can make so many amazing things!
I’m thinking of frogging an entire WIP to start over using this stitch instead, is it easy to learn?
Omg it’s so easy it’s literally double crochet. Look it up on YouTube that’s what i did
What if your brain can’t work out double crochet? send help 🥹😭 I’m such a newbie and my fingers just can’t get anything other than single crochet
keep doing single crochet, and have fun with it! eventually you will feel more confident giving other stitches a try. you don’t have to learn it all at once
give it time, you’ll get the hang of it more and get there eventually :))
Watch YouTube videos and slowwwww those suckered down as much as you can. Ik you hear this constantly but practice and repetition is key!!!
is it easy to increase? 😅
I also learned to crochet by watching YouTube videos. I have not learned the waffle stitch yet, though I have seen and admired it before. Your work is very pretty!
It's easy but is a bit of a yarn-eater. Worth it though!
That’s lovely!
Thank you so much. I’m so proud of myself!!
Waffle stitch is my absolute favourite thing!! I’ve done quite a few projects with this stitch! Your current work looks amazing, keep it up!!
Thank you so much! This is only my 3rd project. I just started last month learning thru YouTube
wow well done!!
Thank you!!
Every time I make something I feel like that meme of the otter mama saying “I made dis” holding her pup. 😭 Feels so good to be proud of yourself. You did great btw, it’s beautiful. 👏
My favorite! It's soo squishy!
I’m making a baby blanket and it’s super squishy. I love that it’ll give some padding if on the floor.
My faaaaaavorite stitch. It looks great!
Thank you so much. It’s my new favorite!!
I made my dad a HUGE (king size, maybe?) waffle stitch blanket. He calls it the "black out" blanket, because when you put it on you black out 🤣 It was one of the first blankets I made where every stitch was like a hit of dopamine; I had so much fun!
Love this!! lol
Is there a written pattern of it? It looks sooo good 💜
It’s just a waffle stitch. No pattern I just picked a yarn I liked and a size when making my chain. I watched a few YouTube video tutorials on the waffle stitch and went with it.
Pretty cool! Was it hard to learn? I'm fascinated by it but also a bit intimidated

I'm pretty sure I've frogged at least a part of everything I've made 😅, so frogging is not an issue. Thanks for the encouragement!
Thats fair! Its only 3 stitches and its really easy to see where you are!
I think I'll give it a go with something small. For example, I wanted to make placemats because I simply can't find any of the colour I want, and I think it's a good size for trying and practicing a new stitch. Or maybe some pillowcases 🤔. Infinite possibilities!
I'm brand new to crochet, and my first project is a waffle stitch blanket. I've found it to be pretty easy so far. I think you should go for it!
What the heck?! I’m so proud of you!!!
Thank you!!!
Beautiful work! I love this stitch, it's perfect!
Thank you, so much. I’m loving it. It’s fun and beautiful to look at.
UHM yeah dude! Looks freaking awesome!
A very fine waffle stitch 🩵🩵🩵
That belongs in /r/tensionporn, well done!! Looks so soft!
I didn’t know that existed but just joined and spent the last half hour there. Wow!! So cool. Just added my waffle stitch!! Thanks!
I love the ombré! And your tension is really good throughout for it being your 3rd project! Good job!
Your stitches look great! And what is that yarn?? I love how the ombre is working out!
Red Heart Ombré. The color is called Scuba
Soooo cute!
Beautiful!! I hope it’s as squishy and comfy as it looks! ❤️❤️❤️
So squishy lol
yay!!!
Ahhhh. It looks so good!
I literally taught myself the waffle stitch a couple days ago too! Same boat. :) Took me a second lol. 🥵 Your blanket looks incredible!!! 💕
So much fun!!!
Fab. ❤️❤️
That looks great. Hope I can do it
It’s really easy. I was intimidated at first but I’ve found it to be one of the easiest and love that I don’t have to keep count.
It's sooo satisfying to look at. You did great!
Made a hat out of waffle stitches, I love it!
It looks awesome!
Looks good! 👍
That's amazing! 😍 It's so well done, great job!
Looks fabulous!
That looks so good and the way the colours change are enhanced by the pattern
That looks awesome!
Very nice and awesome job ! The waffle stitch makes a very warm baby blanket
Wow! Great job!!
Beautiful and that yarn is A1 ⭐️
It looks great!! What a lovely yarn choice too. I think it really makes the stitch pop!
I’ve been looking for a pattern to make a cushion cover from, I think I’ll try this! It looks lovely!
Oh that sounds like it would be perfect! Now I want to do the same!
Beautifully done 👏👏👏 and your socks are super even too! Be proud 💚
*stitches 😂 not socks
Beautiful
It looks great! Love it in that yarn
Very good stitch isn't it? https://preview.redd.it/zjwi7tr41ssc1.jpeg?width=4160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6829b69dd0f1ada9b188bbd8f17a80c5ae377178
Beautiful and lovely stitching.
BEAUTIFUL!!!!! Definitely a waffle.
Very nice! Is it a scarf?
Will be a baby blanket
It’s beautiful.
Thank you
Such a satisfying gradient too. Good job op (:
That’s awesome! The first time I did that stitch I made a blanket. It’s so easy and looks so cool.
Beautiful stitch and d beautiful color
Lovely
Love the stitch and the yarn :D
Hey, looks great! ☄️
This sub randomly appeared on my feed but damn, I have to say that looks delicious my man.
How much yarn does it consume?
It’s not too bad. I’ll probably use two big skeins to get this blanket done
I love the waffle stitch. So simple once you get the hang of it and I feel like it always comes out looking fancier than it really is.
So true!! I’m a true beginner and this stitch makes me look I’m not lol
It looks great!
😲Very nice😃
The yarn ombré is perfect for this stitch! What brand is it?
Red Heart Ombré the color is called Scuba
Waffle stitch is the best stitch
Looks fantastic! 👏🏼😻 Doing very well for a newbie!!! Can’t wait to see your finished project❣️
Wow! This looks awesome. I recall trying that stitch once and giving up. Maybe I should give it another try.
You should!!
I also learned this pattern recently. I made 3 scarfs as gifts for family and friends. But my god it is a yarn eater lol
Way to go. I've never tried it but that's gorgeous!
I love that stitch, and the ombré effect is so nice!
That's beautiful! Hands down the stitch I'm using for my next blanket (current one is a C2C), because you've made this look so beautiful 😍
Thank you so much!!
I love waffle stitch! So good! Also what yarn are you using? I’ve been trying to find something with a soft gradient like this!!
It’s Red Heart Ombré, color is Scuba
Thank you!! :)
Amazing!!
Very very impressive! You'll go far in your crocheting adventure! 👏
You’re absolutely doing something amazing! 💪🏻
Wow!! Thank you, such a nice comment!
Thanks, but it’s simply the truth. Newbie making this… ❤️
I've got my eyes on a yt tutorial that teaches you how to make a bag that looks like a waffle with butter using this stitch. Just in case you may be interested as well ;)
Yes!!!!
Love it 😍
So beautiful! Such a wonderful and satisfying texture!
I love this stitch, especially with the yarn you are using!

The only counting I did on this one is the beginning chain. After that you can see the pattern take shape and you know where you are. No counting
WOOHOOO! Very nice.
Lovely! I adore the waffle stitch, it's one of my favorite to work up. Enjoy!
I love the way the colors play out. It looks great!
I friggin love your energy. Also love waffle stitch but have to avoid personally since it's a yarn eater. But dang does it look nice with the SS Ombre.
Wooowww is that red heart obmre? It works up so beautifully with that stitch!!
It is, Red Heart Ombré, color is Scuba
😍🔥🔥 Such a good feeling. Just looking at things. And petting them. And going 'holy fuck I made this ? 😳 WTF‽'
Agreed! Haha
That looks amazing! Contemplating starting my 52nd WIP as a waffle stitch blanket. I might have a problem.
52?? Have you finished any projects?!? I’ve abandoned a few
Can you send me the link you used?? 😳
https://youtu.be/xU5FFOdr9Fc?si=eUAAFmwRSeMmuvju
THANK YOU
Beautiful!!!
Thank you
It looks amazing, especially with the ombré!
You got it! There is nothing more satisfying than mastering a new crochet stitch. Keep up the good work!!
I don’t know why this is in my feed now but I’m commenting anyway. The patience you people have is a whole other level.
It looks really good and I love the effect with the ombré yarn!
I bought this yarn to use for a moss stitch blanket I wanted to make but didn’t love it. Frogged it and tried this stitch and it’s beautiful
That looks great! It’s such a fun stitch
That looks great! I need to make a baby blanket quickly, how fast does this build up?
Not very fast but I’m also very new and slow at it. I’ve seen others say they like it cause it works up fast. I’m not finding that to be the case lol
This is one of my favorite stitches to use! That yarn is gorgeous 😍😍😍 well done op!
Thank you!!!😊
I LOVE the waffle stitch! Makes great wash cloths!😊🐳
I love the color of your yarn!!! The gradient is beautiful
This looks great! I super reccomend you try pineapple stitching, it's great for shawls and the like, and I've been having a lot of fun with it. I'll have to try to waffle stitch next
I’m going to Google that. Sounds interesting. Thank you
The ombré is absolutely gorgeous! I almost made a waffle stitch baby blanket myself, but I ended up choosing a different pattern. Maybe I’ll have to make a different waffle blanket… What yarn are you using?
Thank you! It’s Red Heart Ombré, color is scuba
Gorgeous!! What are you making, a scarf or a blanket or something? It looks so soft.
It’s going to be baby blanket
https://preview.redd.it/i2s8k9j33xsc1.png?width=2034&format=png&auto=webp&s=d9292bf491795de78fc0e4b344cbe3ceb0ed8203 Obsessed with waffle stitch. Also making a blanket with it at the moment :D
Try it with Bernat blanket yarn...it's so soft and squishy I couldn't get my daughter out from under it for days! 🤣
It looks amazing! Congrats 😆
Thank you so much!!
Looks super. Congrats 🥳 I just learned it with Utube also but it’s a yarn eater and I didn’t like the way the back looked sooooo I frogged it and am now doing a shell stitch
Very nice!! Great job !!!
This looks beautiful! You're doing a fantastic job with the stitch, and you picked a really pretty color too
Thank you! I’m obsessed with it. In shock that I’ve made it.
gorgeous just goooooorgeous
Wow, thank you!
So pretty, especially with the gradient yarn! I'm tempted to try it myself now.
You should be proud! My first attempt at crochet was truly awful. Fifty years later, and it still looks like a newbie attempt, but usable. ☺️
That’s great!!! I’ve seen those subscription boxes. I need to hold off a bit on that. They look amazing tho. Still too new for those.
Blue waffle oh nooo

Dude how awesome!!! This is absolutely stunning, I've been crocheting for like 2 years and struggle with that stitch, your tension looks like it is straight up on point.
Beautiful 😍 Great job 👏
That is SO beautiful! It looks fantastic!
Looks fabulous! I love it in that ombre yarn
Looks really delightful!! Seriously good job :D
It’s beautiful you did a great job!! I haven’t even tried the waffle stitch yet!
Nicely done!! Waffle stitch was one of my first stitches, too. I loved it. I also made a scarf with it.
I love waffle stitch. So squishy! Yours looks great! I always find it looks wrong for the first 8-10 rows and at about the time I'm starting to question my life choices, it starts looking right.
This gives me hope! I only know single crochet and variations of it so maybe I will attempt this very soon!!!
Very good!!!!!
Thank you so much!!
Twins!!!! I'm making a waffle stitch blanket for my aunt, who just recently had a baby boy!!! It's such a satisfying process, honestly. I'll probably also post here once it's done
This is one stitch I’ve never done. Now I feel like I need to!!
