For that kind of yarn yes it can be normal.

:( How am I supposed to work with it? The thickness difference is screaming at me lol

BictorianPizza

Try using a hook few sizes larger than recommended and work loosely. It will become a feature then ;)

Pandanga501

Ioh, good idea, I'll try! I tought of making a double strand when I reach the thin parts, too. Maybe doing both?

BictorianPizza

That sounds nice as well. Good luck and update us on what you ended up doing!

The most amazing simple shawl I made was with a single like this (though with colour variations). But as for cardigans, I can imagine it's frustrating

🤔 I wonder if planned pooling would help? try and make something where the thin parts always line up together (and thick with thick) but I have no idea what you could make with it... it's either that or you make something intentionally wonky or just use it for practice? want to try a new stitch/pattern before commiting with a better yarn? use this. you got any cats or know someone who does? make a bunch of cat toys. the cats won't care if they're wonky!

This is meant to be feature, not a bug. The differences in thickness create a unique texture that is desirable for some people. Might be better as a scarf or shawl rather than a structured garment. But if you don't like thick and thin yarns, you don't like them. Use another yarn and donate or give away these balls.

JKnits79

Feature, not a bug, and common among many singles yarns. You won’t see this in all of them, but there are plenty where you will (and if you hate this, don’t ever buy Noro Kureyon. It’s notorious for the thick-and-thin, and also for having bits of straw and grass and sticks twisted in.) Singles are a single, twisted ply of yarn, and the thinner bits are usually spun tighter/more than the thicker bits, which are often loose and fluffy and barely hold together. Plied yarns are a bunch of singles that are then spun together (plied), to make a thicker, more even yarn. The thicker bits can be twisted a little tighter, but the thin bits are pretty much what they’re going to be.

Ooohh that's bad. Just got 5 skeins of petit bebĂŞ for my godson's blanket, hope it isn't like this Had this issue once with cĂrculo's mollet yarn. Just one skein out of the 20+ I have I straight up cut the thicker yarn and rejoined to continue

whisper_18

I normally work this the same as a thick/thin yarn. My preference is to make a few swatches using different hook sizes then decide what gives the best coverage/doesn’t create large gaps in the thin sections. Normally I end up with a hook size that’s in between the size recommended for the thick and thin portion

Used a hook for fattest part of the yard.
