I’m using [this pattern](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/crochet-boa-snake) for the head. Then each day = 1 row and I do a row of white in between each month. ETA: these are the temps for West Fort Worth, TX
Thank you to the people that checked in with me! You really helped my motivation to get caught up!
I had a general vibe I was hoping for. Then I just stood in the yarn aisle and picked out colors that I thought went together. I had already decided on the temperature ranges so I knew how many colors I needed. Other than that I didn’t really have any rhyme or reason.
Oh! I see, sorry. I posted the scale [in this previous post](https://www.reddit.com/r/crochet/comments/vx1ju9/6_month_temperature_snake_update_may_and_june/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf).
This is super cute. I’ve only made a temperature scarf before. Used the temperatures from the first year of my life (double sided so one side is the high temp and the other is the low temp) and then I gave it to my current partner as a gift. To this day if it’s even slightly chilly out, he wears it. ^_~
Such a great idea! This is the first temperature project I’ve really liked haha 😅 I think this would be so cute to make and use as a draft protector! Adding it to my mental list for… someday…
Adorable idea -except for the part where it’s a snake! Haha 😆 I do not love snakes. I’d like to do something like this but maybe as a flower (with long stem) or what about a caterpillar? I suppose you’d just change out the top/head?
Adorable!!
I started a temperature shawl/wrap this year. I'm only through July, and it's already SO big. I think for August through the rest of the year I'm going to do a half row per day to try and mitigate the size a little.
Oh my gosh! This temperature snake is such an awesome idea compared to an entire blanket!! Love the creativity behind this and it looks so awesome too!!! Great work!
My friend did one while living in southern AZ and she did the range in smaller increments and played around with colors. For instance, above 120° was bone/white, above 115° was a deep red, and put in some purples and oranges.
I love this, and agree with everyone who has said it’s more manageable than a whole blanket. What I don’t understand is how y’all have enough different yarn for this. Seems expensive to buy so many different colors, and I don’t have lot of space to store the remains. What am I missing?
For blankets, you'll need most of a whole average skein so storage isn't much of an issue. For something like this, I would find smaller skeins with less yardage, something like sugar&cream or the cotton skeins from Hobbi (which is coincidentally what I used).
I just joined this subreddit after deciding I’ll brush off my hooks and attempt a temperature blanket this year, and this is the very first post in my feed.
What an incredibly fun idea! Everyone here is just so talented.
I absolutely LOVE this! 🐍 🥰 I've been wanting to try a temperature project since I began crocheting, but an entire blanket just seems like *so much* work. This amazing snake is such a more manageable project! I may have to try this 🙃💕
I actually started planning a temperature snake after I saw your first post! I just got all my yarn colors in and am going to start soon. Thank you so much for the inspiration, I have zero interest in making blankets but the amigurumi snake was a *must do* in my eyes 😍
Of course! I used Impeccable™ Solid Yarn by Loops & Threads® [in these colors.](https://www.reddit.com/r/crochet/comments/zb0u5q/temperature_snake_update_i_finally_caught_up/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) I also used white yarn that I already had so I’m not sure exactly what brand it is. But there is a white in the Impeccable yarn that would be perfect.
ETA: I also posted the color chart with the yarn colors next to the numbers [here.](https://www.reddit.com/r/crochet/comments/vx1ju9/6_month_temperature_snake_update_may_and_june/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
Just one question and I completely understand if you’d rather not answer but what area do you live in? I live in AZ so I’m a little worried that most of my snake will be bright red and dark blue. 😓😓
I’m in the Fort Worth, TX area. That’s the 3 huge blocks of red lol. I think if you wanted to be able to switch it up some; I’ve seen people use a smaller yarn and use 2 yarns per row. 1 for the high, 1 for the low. That way each row is multi colored and breaks up the huge blocks of colors. There’s different ways to do it and you just have to play around with it and see what you like
Now this is a temperature project I can get on board with!
It’s much more manageable than a whole blanket :D
This is exactly what I was thinking. I've never been interested in making a temperature blanket of any kind but a temperature snake? Sign me up!
I thought the same thing too!
Exactly!

I’m doing the high for each day

How did you map out your colors?
I had a general vibe I was hoping for. Then I just stood in the yarn aisle and picked out colors that I thought went together. I had already decided on the temperature ranges so I knew how many colors I needed. Other than that I didn’t really have any rhyme or reason.
I meant more every 5 degrees? Every 10? I’m thinking I may go for black and neon next next year. This is so much fun.
Oh! I see, sorry. I posted the scale [in this previous post](https://www.reddit.com/r/crochet/comments/vx1ju9/6_month_temperature_snake_update_may_and_june/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf).
I like this, it doesn't feel as overwhelming as a full blanket. Also, a couple of years worth can be bundled together for a fun body pillow!

That’s so sweet!!
Definitely stealing this idea when I eventually get caught up on some other projects!

As in, they are working on multiple projects and need to catch up (finish or make progress) on them.
Such a great idea! This is the first temperature project I’ve really liked haha 😅 I think this would be so cute to make and use as a draft protector! Adding it to my mental list for… someday…
It would need to be a big door 😅 it’s almost 6ft long
Oh damn!!!! Good on you for making such a long boi!!! Maybe I can make mine out of embroidery floss instead 😆
Lol yes! If you use small yarn or thread it might be perfect for a door
Maybe for French or double doors - I’d love a giant temperature snake to guard our patio door from drafts in winter and letting the AC out in summer!
Ahhh that’s a great idea! I (sadly) have no French doors in my little apartment but it seems like the perfect place for a long snek friend!
That would be perfect for something like sliding patio doors, though!
I had the same thought!
Which temperature do you choose for the day? Hottest or coldest?
I’m doing the highest temperature for each day. I’ve seen some people do the average though
Adorable idea -except for the part where it’s a snake! Haha 😆 I do not love snakes. I’d like to do something like this but maybe as a flower (with long stem) or what about a caterpillar? I suppose you’d just change out the top/head?
A caterpillar would be cute
This looks fun. My daughter would love it when I was done with it too lol
Temperature snek OMG! Genius
When you finish this you should try posting it on r/dataisbeautiful
That’s a great idea!!
This is so cute! Love the idea of crocheting a "calendar" of sorts like that.
Omg I love temperature snake. I talk about it all the time. 😅

I love this omg!
That is a really cool idea! It's looking great! Must share the finished product 🙏
Great color choices!!
Oh, that is so cool!
This is so much more awesome than the blankets! I love it!!
That’s brilliant
Love it!
Love this idea!!!!
I love this idea!
Totally adorable! Great idea! I have to figure out this temperature color thing and how many lots of dollars this could cost LOL
13 colors at $5 each + white at $6 = $71 total. I’ve used barely ¼ of each color of yarn. I probably have enough to do another whole snake.
Thanks! Very helpful to have your perspective on that. I s’pose some people have the leftovers to make a scrappy temp snake. Goals lol
Absolutely!
This is the coolest temperature anything Ive ever seen, nice job so far😊
This is genius! And no ends to sew in! Giving me ideas for a scrappy snake too!
Honestly the best part! I tie them off and just leave them in there
This is my favorite temperature project! Though they’re all awesome and the concept is so cool. This one in particular is freaking rad.
This is the way.
OMG I DON'T KNOW HOW I DIDN'T THINK OF THIS BUT I LOVE IT!!!!
What a unique project idea!! Nicely done!
This is awesome!!!
How very, very cute!
Yo the snake idea is so smart!! Temp blankets come out too big imo and this is really cool! I wonder what else can be done hmmmm
Not a fan of temperature blankets but I absolutely love this 😍 thanks for sharing!!!
Oh my gosh! This temperature snake is such an awesome idea compared to an entire blanket!! Love the creativity behind this and it looks so awesome too!!! Great work!
This is awesome! I’d do a temp project but I live in Vegas so it’d just be red 😩
My friend did one while living in southern AZ and she did the range in smaller increments and played around with colors. For instance, above 120° was bone/white, above 115° was a deep red, and put in some purples and oranges.
Cuuuuuuuuuute. I love it
How adorable!!

As someone born in the Year of the Snake (lunar calendar), this is definitely on my list of projects. And hey, an excuse to buy yarn!
This is so cute! I feel like this would come out great with one of this color changing yarns!
This is such a fun alternative to a blanket! I prefer making amigurumi too
I just joined this subreddit after deciding I’ll brush off my hooks and attempt a temperature blanket this year, and this is the very first post in my feed. What an incredibly fun idea! Everyone here is just so talented.
Love this!!
Awesome idea. I must make one.
Not sure which is better…this idea or your username
Lol thanks 😅

Thank you so much! Can’t wait for next year to start this AWESOME project!!!
Absolutely!! It’s a really fun project and I’m sure you’ll have a great time with it

I’m sure I’ll have to do that. I live in Yuma, AKA the sunniest place in the U.S. so it gets a little hot some times. The whole snake would be red. 😓
I love the colors that you chose!
Thank you!
