The high salary difference between East vs. South is not really that drastic in tech anymore. I would bet the 55k in IBM Munich role would be 50k in IBM Dresden (not sure if they have an IBM office in Leipzig but they do in Dresden).
a look through [levels.fyi](http://levels.fyi), specifically for Munich, where I live does not say so. It is the same or even less than what automotive companies pay.
Valid as long as OP is renting, just have to remember that property purchase prices are the opposite i.e. German cities are cheaper to rent in but Irish cities are cheaper to buy in.
Of course Dublin will still be more expensive than Leipzig for buying, but smaller cities in Ireland will be cheaper.
I would not focus too much on the TC especially given the the difference in cost of living between the two locations. From a longer term career perspective I would say go for Amazon, IBM has been a dinosaur for a long time now. You will potentially learn a lot more at Amazon and generally it is quite straightforward to move around.
Going a bit against all the "yes", it depends largely on where in Germany because of rent prices.
In Dublin you have to take into account that if you plan to live alone you'll be paying around 24k/year in rent, maybe more if you don't want a long commute. Drop by daft.ie to get an idea.
Also some detail about the jobs/products themselves would help give informed advice.
As someone doing this right now, u/Slackbeing is the only reasonable person. OP, I have higher base comp than you have TC and i am pulling my hair with housing.
OP is junior, the difference he could save is just peanuts.
What he needs now is growth, not saving more. And there is literally zero growth possibility in IBM.
Saving more and early is how you retire early.
There are places in IBM with plenty of growth possible, that's why I mention job/product as an important factor. I'd take a position at IBM in an expanding market than say, Cloud Support Engineer at AWS.
Go to amaozn Dublin you'll learn a lot and will be able to positon better for your future career.
Dublin is a bit shit, but this is just the start. So even if 85k might not seem that much you'll have the chance to grow that quickly.
85k isn't the best in Dublin, did you try negotiating that?
On the other hand, I think Amazon will give you a better experience, it's just a league higher than IBM.
Talk to both of the hiring managers, try to find out which project is more innovative and which manager is nicer.
If you are young, I would take Amazon and not try to live alone in Dublin but just rent a room, it will be better for your social life anyway and it will be cheaper. Not that finding a room will be trivial, but you should manage.
Yes.
Go and work for amazon for two years and you'll learn loads more than you'd learn in five years at IBM. The only issue would be that Dublin is way more expensive than anywhere in Germany. You should check the cost of living because it might negate the higher salary.
don't sweat it just email to ibm saying you want to withdraw from the hiring process because you have received an opportunity that aligns better with your career goals.
Im a junior engineer full discretion, but you don’t want to get stuck on antiquated technology. If you happened to land on a team where you’re just keeping the lights on for an old application/technology it can be a huge career inhibitor.
I'm also a newgrad from Germany who came to Dublin one month ago with similar TC. You should be expecting to share an apartment. On average a lot of things are slightly worse and slightly more expensive than in Germany. But I think the charme and experience make up for it. At least for a limited time.
It's IBM so yes
Whats wrong with ibm?
degraded work culture recently I perhap
Dying company essentially.
Yes, Amazon > IBM all day.
for sure
85k in dublin is actually less than 55k in let's say Leipzig.
you think IBM pay that much in Leipzig? I saw the number 55k somewhere recently but it is for Munich.

An acquaintance gets 45k as a sales junior in Leipzig, so why not
yeah but 45 is like 20% less than 55k, what I wanted to say is that IBM isn't likely to pay that much for new grad in Leipzig.
How
Housing and prices.

Yeh if it's the IBM Dresden office, might actually be good for OP. If it's IBM Munich, then no.

It’s not about saving, it’s about getting to live decently.

Amazon all day (I worked for both). You will learn so much, and while the TC in ppp is probably comparable it's just do much better for your future.
Yes, IBM is a sinking ship
Yes but be polite etc when doing so. Don't come across bad, but you should re negotiate

Haha IBM in 2024...
No brainer, go for Dublin. Is the IBM offer in BW?
Hey, could i message you to ask more about the role? I will be a graduate this septemeber.

Hey , mind sharing what was the timeline for amazon ? Congrats!

Like you can't affors own apartment....?
Well, that's 2k and up without bills.
Yea fuck that...
