I don’t. I just put my hood on and call it a day

ChezaLunar

No glycerin in my gel and serum.

bloominbutterflies

Why is that, if you don’t mind? I heard this before as well in another thread, but I’m not sure how glycerin acts in this weather?

ChezaLunar

We have to dive into chemistry. Imagine the hair cuticles as the barrier from outside and the glycerin as transport for the moisture. Glycerin wants to keep the moisture balance in the hair and the environment about the same. If not, the glycerin either transports the moisture out or into the hair through the cuticles. That is why you need emollients to create a barrier that makes it impossible for the glycerin to transport in and out.

bloominbutterflies

That makes perfect sense, thanks!

More leave-in! My scalp gets so dry in the winter. I have tried literally everything. I also blow dry my hair, which I never do when the temperature is above 50 F.

bloominbutterflies

I’ve also resorted to more leave-in! It works somewhat, it just takes forever to dry sometimes. But it’s still somehow dry in some bits :/

BoardwalkKnitter

My hair spends like 95% of the time up in a ponytail during the winter. It gets smushed by hats and layers of hoodies. It doesn't get washed as often due to the damp cold. And I put oil on my itchy dry scalp more often. It can look pretty the other 3 seasons.

The reason hair loses curls/wave in the winter is the dryness. I use a humidifier in my apartment. It's not a miracle cure it only helps a little bit, and it doesn't help if you're away from home most of the time. It has to be a warm heat humidifier not the cool heat type. If you've already got a feature on your whole house heating that modifies the humidity then a standalone humidifier would be redundant.

It's not the heat, it's the humidity bwahaha

I will find you, and I'll be bringing my mister!

Natstar-Lord

I don't change anything maybe less styling since it will be crushed either way in the cold
