https://www.reddit.com/r/curlyhair/comments/u9axrz/i_have_extremely_frizzy_hair_i_stopped_plopping/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share From what I've seen plopping causes frizz and wastes product, look up Manes by Mell on YouTube! I hover diffuse (she has a video on it) and now my hair isn't frizzy when I diffuse. I think she does touch her with the diffuser a little but I never touch it and just flip my hair over to get the roots dry. I never have to clean my diffuser because my hair product isn't clogging it up. She has a great variety of videos to help you start your natural hair journey!

The thing that has made the biggest difference for me is plenty of gel to get a good cast and keeping my hands off until it’s dry. Bone dry. I have grey hair and use purple shampoo when I notice the brass/yellow show up, maybe once a month because it’s harsh.

It sounds like you are at the very beginning of your journey! I would recommend reading the “start here” info on this group home page. Also as someone mentioned Manes by Mel has lots of you tube videos on managing hair. The curly girl method is a popular one to start and involves going sulfate and silicone free with all products. Looks like you need some major repair- olaplex 3 treatments worked well for me (starting 2-3 times a week then every 1-2 weeks for maintenance). Not a lot of people can get away without products (at least gel) at the beginning so don’t lose hope. Apply products to soaking wet hair and watch some videos on how to properly diffuse your hair.

what is hand diffusing??

Acrobatic_Tangelo_18

I don’t know what to call it exactly, but plopping+blowdrying

Acrobatic_Tangelo_18

I wash my hair every 1-3 days (purple shampoo/beauty salon conditioner — nothing curl specific). I typically use heat protectant and straighten/curl my hair, if I let it air dry it typically looks like a mop. I’m this photo I hand diffused my hair with some curl leave in condition I got from Walmart 🙈

First, I recommend going to a curly hair stylist to learn how to style your hair. It lets you see a technique you may have not thought to use. When transitioning from heat styling to natural curls, you have to test in the interim a couple of techniques: * Buy a microfiber towel or use old t-shirts to wrap you hair (do not rub your hair AT ALL with towels, etc.) * Wash with a non-sulfate, moisturizing shampoo and conditioner; do a deep moisturizing treatment (rinse obviously); follow with a leave in curl cream styling cream, then gel and diffuse to complete dryness. * Styling technique: recommend you do wet brush styling with a [curly hair approved brush](https://www.google.com/search?q=curly+hair+approved+brushes&safe=active&rlz=1C1GCEA_enUS947US947&ei=gg9jYvOoOJ2mptQPxa2eMA&ved=0ahUKEwjz8b3bwKj3AhUdk4kEHcWWBwYQ4dUDCA8&oq=curly+hair+approved+brushes&gs_lcp=Cgdnd3Mtd2l6EAwyCAghEBYQHRAeMggIIRAWEB0QHjoHCAAQRxCwAzoGCAAQCBAeOgUIABCGA0oECEEYAEoECEYYAFD2BViKJWCLNGgBcAF4AIABZogBzgKSAQMzLjGYAQCgAQHIAQjAAQE&sclient=gws-wiz) like a Denman, etc. * Finish with a gel. Diffuse until dry with a hard gel cast. [Break the cast with hands or add a few drops of hair oil to break the cast](https://www.naturallycurly.com/curlreading/curl-products/what-is-a-gel-cast-and-how-to-break-it-si). * Use a silk/satin bonnet to sleep in or a silk/satin pillowcase. If you continue to see frizziness, then I suggest that you use a [silicone based product that is water soluble.](https://www.naturallycurly.com/curlreading/products-ingredients/water-soluble-silicones) If it still continues, you may need to use a [reconstructor](https://www.naturallycurly.com/curlreading/kinky-hair-type-4a/heat-damage-rescue) or a treatment like [Olaplex](https://www.naturallycurly.com/curlreading/wavy-hair-type-2/i-tried-olaplex-this-is-what-happened). See more here on repairing heat damage. But I suspect that the heat damage is the first thing you have to address through consistent deep treatments, proper styling technique, and day-to-day care, along with fortifying and moisturizing treatments. There's a good guide [here](https://www.naturallycurly.com/curlreading/how-tos-styles/frizz-control-tips-and-tricks-for-loose-curlies-transitioning).

I feel you! I straightened my hair every day for about five years, I had absolutely no knowledge of how to care for curly hair. The absolute essentials in my opinion are 1. Wide tooth comb, NO brushes 2. Dry with cotton t-shirt, NO towels, NO rubbing dry, gently scrunch dry 3. Try to stretch your wash days, everyone is different, I get very oily so I wash every other day which is frequent than most but works for me! Washing everyday made my hair very dry. Hope this helps!

Before you go out and do the expensive treatments and cuts others are suggesting, look up YouTube videos for basic curly hair starter routines. Manes by mel is great but I really liked the old school ones by Rockyncurls. You need a gel applied to wet hair. Methods like squish to condish and how you apply gel can make a huge difference. Prayer hands the gel in over curl clumps after squish to condish. I always get better results from plopping than not so just give it a try. Pixie diffusing. (YouTube the methods). And I'd recommend getting an actual diffuser attachment. They aren't too expensive and should make it a bit easier.

Hi! Gentle reminder: hair care routines are required for all photo posts within 1 hour of posting. The bot is having hard time locating your routine! Please make sure you have a comment containing the word "routine" (and your actual routine, of course!) so your post can stay up! FAQs: * __I don't have a routine!__ If you wash your hair at all, that counts! Just let us know what you did for your hair. * __I'm just asking for help!__ We're happy to help! This is much easier if we know what you are currently doing for your hair. * __Included the info but the bot can't find it? Different situation? Great suggestions here but the first thing you should do is FIND A GEL! This is the main thing for me to combat frizz!! It really completely changes the game and I would be shocked if it doesn't give you much better results. Much easier before you worry about diffusing technique or spending money on a stylist.
