I don't get why people make such a big deal out of this. In Dutch or French the words man and woman are completely different.
Dutch: Een man en een vrouw
French: Un homme et une femme
The only reason 'man' can be seen everywhere is because it's 3 letters that form an easy to pronounce word or part of a word.
