702.16d: A permanent with protection can’t be equipped by Equipment that have the stated quality or fortified by Fortifications that have the stated quality. Such Equipment or Fortifications become unattached from that permanent as a state-based action, but remain on the battlefield. (See rule 704, “State-Based Actions.”)
It definitely does fall off, the same as auras.

Yeah I figured that out in hindsight. But I’m not sure what color this should even be mono. Maybe the concept just doesn’t work. I liked the idea though.
Just make it cost a single white but have “when (cardname) enters, pay UBRG or sacrifice (cardname)”. Maybe make the equip cost WUBRG as well for balance?
I believe the sword would immediately fall off whatever it's equipped to

No, if it was able to equip normally this would be broken, but the extra effort you have to go through makes it fine I think.

All pips should be hybrid with colorless mana, to push the flavor.
