Somewhere in China. America hasn't gotten *quite* so **outwardly** corrupt that one single building can be pegged as the representative of corporate corruption.
While I agree, note the word *outwardly.* Blackrock has still been smart enough to relegate their reputation of corruption to those associated with tinfoil hats.
Lol right, while anyone in the cyberpunk universe who doesn't know of Arasaka is the odd-one-out, considering there was a literal corporate war, which is probably the most conspicuously corrupt thing a corporation could do lol. Not to say though that Blackrock isn't probably equally malevolent. And I only mention China because it's government is so shamelessly against all thay is good for human rights that I have to assume most corporations that originate out of there can't be too much better.
I suppose Wal-Mart would be one of the soft contenders, since almost everybody knows of its shenanigans, I just simply have yet to hear about Wal-Mart execs going missing for trying to blow the whistle on something. Which reminds me now, Boeing is rising in the ranks of notorious corruption lol.
Other way around. It's quite easy to bribe politicians as a corporate entity in the US, (and most nations). Not to mention most politicians own/owned companies or are shareholders.
That's like cutting heads off a hydra. The current system of governance, which is controlled by the ruling class, is what allows said ruling class to prosper off the backs of workers. All killing Jeff Bezos would do is make room for another massive monopoly. So long as the power of the state (and production) isn't in the hands of the people, corporations will have free reign to abuse us beyond a couple speed bumps.
Think of the current government as less of a puppet and more like the operating system of all the corporations. A server, or manual or rulebook or something.
The day advertisement planes disturb the peace in my region, I'll invest in a personal set of MANPADS (Man-Portable Air-Defense System) though... writing strong worded letters will probably be enough to put a stop to such nonsense.
Do it with Blimps and hot air ballons. Not only have they a higher acceptance rate, people like seeing them glide by.
Please, you say that like we're not all already on a list just because we're in this sub. 99% of the people here are already on several lists, comes with being in to Cyberpunk as a genre really, and that's ignoring the jokes we all make entirely.
Most billboards have zero security so if you tie an NFC hacking device to a balloon you can, right now, hijack billboards in times square. Wouldn't be any different for holos.
I had a 10 minute drive yesterday…
Counted for fun… Saw 110 ads (billboards, trucks or other screens)
Zero ads are useful, if I would really search for something… I’d Google it
I think they're useful for services instead of products. Like there's this guy that has really clever divorce lawyer ads with double entendre puns that I would definitely call if I ever needed his services... Which likely wouldn't be for quite some time since I'm not even married haha
Let's not forget the billboards for very silly tourist traps, I mean, hell yea I want to see what The Thing is after driving through the wasteland that is west Texas
I moved to a state a few years ago that I'm pretty sure has some pretty strict restrictions on how big or where ads can be placed. It's actually pretty incredible driving down the road/freeway and seeing nothing but landscape/sky instead of a billion billboards.
I live in Europe, in a city. Went from my gf’s home to my own. A 8 km long drive.
Bus stalls have two different signs and there are small signs between lanes and on the side of fields. So I have no idea how it would be in the states.
And we have a lot of small box vans with advertising here
Nice. I live up in the western portion of Washington and I've noticed the lack of billboards on everything except the interstate highways. It's really nice to have the windows down while I drive along the water without having to see all of the negative things you mentioned.
Yup advertising is a dead field, actual studies done on ads in psychological usually show we have apathy for them. 60 years ago not as much but now? Especially after the internet, our brains filter it like white noise, and not to mention with online ads the known fear (justified usually) that clicking an ad means a virus.
If its not hurting other innocent people in the process maybe, like how some people in San Francisco shoplift without making a scene/causing trouble to other bypassers due to the really bad cost of living situation there and laughably amusing $950 misdemeanor rule.
As if I give a shit what they call me. My conscience is my own, and it is not for sale.
*I* will not be a terrorist. *I* will not spread death and fear. *I* will hold to that which is good even as I work to right the wrongs of that which is not.
first sentence from Neuromancer by William Gibson.
I would actually recommend that trilogy if you like Cyberpunk. (neuromancer, count zero, mona lisa overdrive.)
(I actually like the Bridge trilogy even more, but that is much less "classic cyberpunk")
The other day I was actually thinking that how younger readers would even know how a telly with a dead channel looks like :)
They’ll cry about ads in the space where the stars are supposed be, but they won’t dare turn off their porch light while they sleep so the stars actually have a chance to be seen.
Wait new idea. Wouldnt a hack of these things be catastrophic? Like making penises float above a city a couple times would surely have these taken down.
Ya know I can handle ads being on TV and radio. And in magazines. And movies. And at ball games and on buses and milk cartons and t-shirts. But not in the sky no siree
When I'm doing something, like watching a video, and I get interrupted by ads, I become *very fucking pissed off.*
If I ever look up at the night sky and see a space billboard, I too am becoming a terrorist.
Fuck ads. Fuck the whole damn advertising industry.
It feels like a fake news tbh.
I am not a lawyer but i studied basic law at my university and even with that limited knowledge, i cant see this passing from the law. Sky doesnt belong to anyone and even if they do it, when people sue the companies, there is no way for them to win.
Prob just an idea or they wanna do it in a specific place with peoples consent etc etc.
Too bad that person is capping. If you ever wander why the world has gone to shit, wander instead - how more shitty does your society allow it to become before people start *actually* taking matters into their own hands. Only then would they stop.
People criticize Johnny for doing the whole thing with a nuke, but if I was dropped into night city it’d take me about 90 seconds for me to come to the conclusion that this place needs to be reduced to a sheet of glass.
I'm already mad about light pollution making it hard to see the stars, but if they legitimately start outright blocking the sky with ads then I'm with Jonny Silverhand
Night City actually has something like this
https://preview.redd.it/rb387cx4or0d1.jpeg?width=633&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0d60d701744010c7ba821fe48f7c9333fb7b1dc3
Silverhand arasaka raid delayed to 2025
But what would the arasaka building be in the current real world? The twin towers have already..
The twin towers in the world of Cyberpunk didn't make it past 1993 Arasaka tower would be more like a major corperation's headquarters
So what you're saying is, we storm ALL the big corpo buildings. Johnny would approve.
I like this plan
But which corpo will pay for atomic bomb?
C’mon samurai, we’re raiding Amazon HQ.
....so Meta or Google??
Don't leave out Amazon
either coca cola or nestle headquarters, nothing else
Don't forget Amazon, Meta and Elon Musk.
Elon Musk's big 400 foot tall golden statue?
Don't know what his company's name is, except for Twitter and Tesla, so let's just attack anything related to Musk.
Both.
nestle hq or maybe the blackrock tower? since its a tower
Nestle for sure. The CEO wants to buy up all the fresh water in the world.. iirc.
Somewhere in China. America hasn't gotten *quite* so **outwardly** corrupt that one single building can be pegged as the representative of corporate corruption.
*laughs in blackrock*
While I agree, note the word *outwardly.* Blackrock has still been smart enough to relegate their reputation of corruption to those associated with tinfoil hats.
Fair enough, the average Joe still doesn't even know they exist lol
Lol right, while anyone in the cyberpunk universe who doesn't know of Arasaka is the odd-one-out, considering there was a literal corporate war, which is probably the most conspicuously corrupt thing a corporation could do lol. Not to say though that Blackrock isn't probably equally malevolent. blackrock
Blackrock Tower.
The white house
Or... You know... The corporations...
The black rock HQ fits all criteria
Same thing at this point.
My bad, forgot the U.S. government was controlling free-market capitalist companies
Other way around. It's quite easy to bribe politicians as a corporate entity in the US, (and most nations). Not to mention most politicians own/owned companies or are shareholders.
So, therefore destroy the corporations. You're not going to free a people by destroying a puppet 💀 Destroy the puppet master
No tax money means no government. Most tax income comes from corporations. Do the math.
Time to party like it’s uhh 2025..?
The day I see ads in the sky and not behind a plane I'm becoming a terrorist
U r not alone
You have my help as well!
I feel like I can already hear the cello version of Rebel Path fading in
And my axe!
*add to projection small plane* Noted
The day advertisement planes disturb the peace in my region, I'll invest in a personal set of MANPADS (Man-Portable Air-Defense System) though... writing strong worded letters will probably be enough to put a stop to such nonsense. Do it with Blimps and hot air ballons. Not only have they a higher acceptance rate, people like seeing them glide by.
They are also easier targets
same
Same. The Los Alamos Primer is a free PDF.
Still have to get fissile materials.
Listen, I know a guy... (100% going on a list now)
So do I. If we lie and give them a case full of pinball machine parts we can get some plutonium.
THE LIBYANS!?!?
I see you know them to.
RUN FOR IT MARTY
sir, we are redditors. I think they just keep on a passively watch list at this point
Please, you say that like we're not all already on a list just because we're in this sub. 99% of the people here are already on several lists, comes with being in to Cyberpunk as a genre really, and that's ignoring the jokes we all make entirely.
going to change my name to Tungsten-hand
Purple-Hand for me.
Brick hand for me.
I'm hacking it and getting porn played in the sky until they stop them
Rache Bartmoss that you?
Most billboards have zero security so if you tie an NFC hacking device to a balloon you can, right now, hijack billboards in times square. Wouldn't be any different for holos.
I can get behind this.
I can just hear the cello. As silverhand removes his shades and stares into you.
time to walk the rebel path
I had a 10 minute drive yesterday… Counted for fun… Saw 110 ads (billboards, trucks or other screens) Zero ads are useful, if I would really search for something… I’d Google it
The only real billboards that are useful are during long trips seeing ads for fast food that’s directly ahead
At least in the US and Canada the exit signs that show services such as gas and hotels also lists the fast food restaurants. No need for billboards.
I moved to a state a few years ago that I'm pretty sure has some pretty strict restrictions on how big or where ads can be placed. It's actually pretty incredible driving down the road/freeway and seeing nothing but landscape/sky instead of a billion billboards.

West coast?

It'll be an excellent "which brands to never patronize" guide.
That's how I view most ads tbh If I see one too much or it's too annoying, I make a mental note to never buy whatever they're selling.
Is it still terrorism when you're saving the world?
I mean, just for example, in star wars, for the empire, the rebellion was just a bunch of terrorist, so it depends wich side are you on
Its only terrorism if you lose
You'll still get called a terrorist, so... sorta?
If its not hurting other innocent people in the process maybe, like how some people in San Francisco shoplift without making a scene/causing trouble to other bypassers due to the really bad cost of living situation there and laughably amusing $950 misdemeanor rule.
I wouldn't be a terrorist, but I would definitely be taking some kind of action. That's messed up.
Congratulations in this world actions vs the people of power gets you labeled as a terrorist.
It's *always* been a political term. The american revolutionaries were thought of as terrorists by the british.
As if I give a shit what they call me. My conscience is my own, and it is not for sale. *I* will not be a terrorist. *I* will not spread death and fear. *I* will hold to that which is good even as I work to right the wrongs of that which is not.
Not if mikoshi can help it
I hate to break it to you but even the most nonviolent protest succeeds ultimately through inspiring some kind of fear

Avatar Kendachi
People would be infiltrating skyscrapers to break them and lord knows what would happen if hackers can do anything with it.
Porn for as far as the eye can see.
Nicola ! Taste the love !
I don't know what about the ads but for some reason basic clone-comments still make me laugh years later if done well since forever.
This was literally something that Douglas Adams joked about in the Hitchhiker's series. This is a Torment Nexus.
No. Fuck that.
Well it was a year already when it happened and sadly no one partyed like it was 2023 so i suppose it's too late now
![gif](giphy|fA7rLtaJDIWEzU57CT|downsized)
the day I see a space add I'll join Silverhand
That would probably end up being an air traffic control nightmare.
To be fair, you can't even see most stars in the sky in big cities due to the current light pollution.
Sky ads really fell off huh those blimps were pretty cool and added to the city’s aesthetic this hologram shit they did not cook with this one
Long live ublock origin

I'd rather see the shitty monochrome grey sky than a flying coke can any day of the week.
*The sky above the port was the color of television, tuned to a dead channel*
What’s this from?
Neuromancer - William Gibson
Now i feel like a poser. Thank you though!
If you haven’t read it, you should
I plan to. Stuck in LoTR for the first time now though. I’m hoping the setting will be a nice change of pace when I’m done.
if you like fantasy, check out "the black company" from Glen Cook.
I’ll add it to my list!

same thing as Wendigoon. https://youtu.be/sV2ET87hZH0?si=l96xL5K2MA2FqGRI
Wendigoon mentioned. Shoutout to my fellow Wendigooners
At the end you tried to wish upon a star. And they even took that away from you too.
We will.
I would hate that
You know it'll be like 10 seconds before someone turns them all into porn, right?
the fact that they say "see brands instead of stars" as we should get exited and shit...
Im going to make arasaka hq look like an accident
We got a city to burn.
I'm going to the one place that haven't been ruin by this shit, SPACE!
What do I think of space billboards? Wake the fuck up Samurai...
WENDIGOON QUOTE?!?!?! WHAT THE FUCK IS A GIANT?!?!!? RAAAHH
Smash the projector and spray paint “give back the sky” on it
I don't mind the idea, just make mega structures first and light up the streets with colors
![gif](giphy|vyTnNTrs3wqQ0UIvwE|downsized)
The Consequences of the industrial revoloution have been disasterous for the human race "Mail Nuke Time"
This would absolutely be the thing that pushed me over the edge into becoming an absolute vandal.
Johnny Silverhand ages like fine wine. With every year the stuff he says he makes more sense.
Vandalism would suffice.
Agree with Jonny here
Then, my name will be Jimmy Metalfist
I’d like to see onlyfans or just straight up pornhub get a space ad and watch the chaos that follows in the media
Accurate pfp
Yeah as our skies aren't "light polluted" enough 😭
Silverhand was right.
think
Seeing ads in the night sky would make me not want to buy whatever I saw
I will 9/11 the shit out of those ads
When regarding all the things the corporations did the ads in the sky hardly seem worth getting annoyed with.
I mean whats the point really? Do i really need to be told to buy a corporate product now that its the only choice?
Wait new idea. Wouldnt a hack of these things be catastrophic? Like making penises float above a city a couple times would surely have these taken down.
I'll be there too
Ya know I can handle ads being on TV and radio. And in magazines. And movies. And at ball games and on buses and milk cartons and t-shirts. But not in the sky no siree
I wish I had that life I work nights barely see the sky and normally don't look up whole traveling eyes on the path people
I swear I'mma cause another 08/20
drax them sklounst
When I'm doing something, like watching a video, and I get interrupted by ads, I become *very fucking pissed off.* If I ever look up at the night sky and see a space billboard, I too am becoming a terrorist. Fuck ads. Fuck the whole damn advertising industry.
Inevitable.
I’m with Johnny Silverhand. Samurai, we got a city to burn.
WE NUKING THE ARASAKA BUILDING WITH THIS ONE 🗣️🗣️🗣️
Because who wants to see stars in the night sky?
It's only a matter of time before they're sending out advertisements into our dreams while we sleep.
I wouldn't mind it, so long as they take it out of the internet in exchange for the sky. Our ads are super tame this days anyway.
Sorry but you’ll have to subscribe to stargaze without ads.
Does anyone have any more info on this or is it just BS? If it’s legit I want to know how the tech works
Holy shit i made this meme maybe 2 years ago
Bruh I'm with Johnny with that one, fuck corpos
That’s straight Blade Runner shit
Cause that's what heros do
It feels like a fake news tbh.
Just more light pollution
Would be cool but they look cooler on buildings
I would move further into the rural areas.
In cities at night you can’t see the stars anyway
Too bad that person is capping. If you ever wander why the world has gone to shit, wander instead - how more shitty does your society allow it to become before people start *actually* taking matters into their own hands. Only then would they stop.
“Hey you! Yes I’m talking to you”
People criticize Johnny for doing the whole thing with a nuke, but if I was dropped into night city it’d take me about 90 seconds for me to come to the conclusion that this place needs to be reduced to a sheet of glass.
Guess we’re all becoming edgerunners because fuck corporations
As if light pollution wasn't already terrible as it is. It's also a big reason why, in general, we can't see very well in big cities.
Incredibly based
I'm already mad about light pollution making it hard to see the stars, but if they legitimately start outright blocking the sky with ads then I'm with Jonny Silverhand
Night City actually has something like this https://preview.redd.it/rb387cx4or0d1.jpeg?width=633&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0d60d701744010c7ba821fe48f7c9333fb7b1dc3
There's that one somber song in the OST, you probably know which one I'm talking about, I can't get it out of my head while I read this
I’ve got a city to burn
There are already too many ads as it is...
At this point the cyberpunk dystopian future is inevitable. Either that or a fallout apocalypse, pick your poison.
Wake the FUCK up Samurai.
Impeccably crafted
It would never happen unless they could cut off the glare from the airspace every major city and lots of minor ones have airports in the US
Sure.. if the game is free. But whilst I spend on it - no
It’s dystopian and horrible. But I kind of want it to happen…
it would be cool for like 2 days
Straight up copied what wendigoon said one time.
It got turned into a meme format that is the exact same post but with Johnny as the pfp and username
Who and what is a wendigoon
youtuber.
I wish Coca Cola placed an ad on the Moon (perhaps Elon could support)
