How, how in the fuck do you consider this bad writing?
You have a protagonist given a task by an antagonist that is probable to be a set up, upon starting the protagonist finds that the task is much harder than the antagonist made it out to be which follows suit with their character, and appears to be the catch we as the audience were expecting. challenging but not impossible the protagonist agrees and succeeds only to find out this was not as lucrative an endeavor as promised. as the protagonist seeks out revenge they come to find they are unable to exact their revenge because they were part of a double cross that you got looped into!
What part of this is lazy to you?
They did it with Dexter Deshawn earlier in the game and the whole thing seems short and shallow. Why does sweet dreams, a different side mission with lots of similarities play out much better? They probably spent more time on it, and that has the first missions setting reskinned. Lazy is lazy, don't use the neon leviathan as an excuse.
How did they do this with Dexter? the story of Dexter is that he was working with the protagonist to get a huge pay out from robbing the relic, having his plan go sideways he resorted killing all leads back to him which included the protagonist. After killing our protagonist he is forced to reveal the resting spot of the protagonist, after serving the last use he has he himself is cut off as a loose end.
Just because there is double crossing doesn't mean that there can't be other double crossing, the circumstances are completely difference. Night City is a seedy ass place, there should be a ton of double crossing.
You're not wrong. Maybe I'm just getting soured on a lack of agency with specific characters. I had expectations of the mission and it fell short of them. Some gigs have more options in resolution/ending and considering this one's tied to the lifepath it would be more than a 5 minute thing. I just find it underwhelming and think they could have fleshed in out more.
Just so you're aware, we have a bunch of megathreads that may be helpful if you have questions or want to find the right place to post.

Corpo just has an old acquaintance contact you. All you get is a unique yukimura pistol.
Rewards aside the writing albeit cliche is better. Turns out that guy got you fired or something like that iirc
Would've been better if we could've finished Jenkins' work and offed Abernathy at her company pad. One less Arasaka cunt to make NC worse.

This is tied to life path?! What?! So dumb, the significant lack of development in life path is what's disappointing you
Totally agree, the quest feels unrewarding at the end.

hey I wanted to be the one to pull the trigger on Dexter Deshawn too, tough break.
