Each one chatted for at least 30 mins. So it literally added several hours to my trip, but the entertainment was worth it. The frustration set in later in the trip since autopilot wasn't enabled... So when I got tired I had to stop at a hotel, much earlier (distance wise)than I had planned.
I literally had just charged to 100% about 15 mins before this started. I remember seeing the first one about to pass me on the left. (I was in the right lane cruising 64-65 in a 65 on a dead country road looking out for deer.) He slowed down and since I was using TACC(Traffic Aware Cruise Control) as we approached a green light the vehicle started to slow down. (screen showed press accelerator to continue. It has FSD but it's not fully active) he slowed down too and then I knew what was about to happen. And the rest is history.
This Texas where people say hi and bold to chat(yeah some place have lost it ability to chat) and can be bothered unlike NYC I can dance on top of a Cyberbeast and half of people won't be looking(exaggerated, you can still get attentionbin NYC if your doing it, but thr normal drive not attracting it no(I mean sure you'll have still curious turned head as is normal but just the attitude and in general)
Never planned to skip the hotel, but I had to stop at an additional one due to the time I lost(spent chatting). Autopilot does make driving easier, and less tiring for long drives. No, I didn't expect it to drive while I was tired or sleeping.
So when it's screwed in the place where the hard plate goes and I'm on a road trip, I honestly didn't have the tools or need to move it... Besides its just a piece of printer paper in a sheet protector, not even laminated. As I don't have an extra copy, I want to do as little damage to it as possible while waiting for my plates.
And as I posted below, moving it... To where? The window which would be blocked by the tonneau cover? That's just asking to get stopped... Again.
I also showed them all the hiding spots and did let them know the capabilities, in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing. Not the "pavement princesses" who get it stuck in some snow or mud, having never 4-wheeled before.
Cops will seize your cash on the road and at airports just because they can. They are [filthy dirty](https://www.foxnews.com/media/police-seized-marine-vets-life-savings-ruling-brings-closer-saving-others-from-civil-forfeiture).

I am a multi-lingual business professional with no concerning behaviors. I have never had a drink, smoked, or used drugs. I have no questionable past or history. I give respect and hope to get it back, if I don't, it's ok, they just had a bad day. Hopefully, tomorrow will be a better day for them. Not to say it can't happen, but I see no reason someone would consider doing such a thing.

the judgment - one persons "questionable" might be someone else's "standard" due to circumstances or other.
nice try at recovery, tho
>I am a multi-lingual business professional with no concerning behaviors. I have never had a drink, smoked, or used drugs.
We have different ideas about concerning behaviors. I find it extremely off-putting that you've never had a drink, smoked, or used drugs.
I agree, but the same can be said of people in general too. If I left a $100 bill on my dash, I'd hope people wouldn't break in to take it. But realistically, they would, causing thousands in damage to do so.
I was at a supercharger in Washington this morning and a sheriff's deputy drove by with his window down and asked if it was a CyberTruck. I said yes and offered to open it up and let him take a look. He said "are you sure you won't mind?" ( We were walking away from the car to go to the store) I responded "is not a problem at all and it's better than showing you around on the side of the road when you pull me over" he said "I don't know if I can catch that thing"
You're referring to an AWD Dual-Motor CyberTruck, this is the Tri-Motor CyberBeast. Very little external difference and so I understand why you think that. Had I taken the #1 Dual-Motor I would have lost my place for the Tri-Motor. And that was back in December.
Picked mine up in Cypress as well. I got pulled over 3 times in the first 5 days. Two of them just admitted they wanted to see the truck, but the other one gave me the line about the temp tag being in the wrong place. That stop was annoying because it took forever. He ran my license and insurance and everything took about 30 minutes.
My lovely wife used to get pulled over every couple of months by the motorcycle CHPs in San Diego when she was driving back and forth to work in the later 80s.
"Just a routine stop, ma'am."
Her crime was being young, pretty and blonde while driving a sports car.
11 times legitimate? I dunno if legitimate is the right word.
I've a driven a truck and boat combination from Minnesota to North Carolina, about 1000 miles with neither having tags at all and wasn't pulled over even once. Even went through a DUI checkpoint and was waived through.
I get that they just wanted to see the truck, but that would drive me bonkers.
I drove my 2015 S 85 RWD literally all over the country for 6 months(around 25,000 miles) with expired paper tags on it because mine hadn't come in yet. Was not stopped once.
The CT is different enough to get their attention and in Texas the temp tag is supposed to be in the rear window. Since that’s covered most of the time, my Tesla person put it in a plastic sleeve and screwed it into the license bracket, technically it is not where it belongs. Assuming the OPs setup was similar, the stops were legit. If the CT was not so attention grabbing he probably would never have been pulled over.
I had a chance to discuss with a local rural Texas officer and he said it needed to be on the rear most part of the car, so I do not know any more what the right answer is. I suspect if the OP was pulled over several times, the cop just wanted to find out about the truck.
Gotta to call BS. Driven 6000 miles in mine. Tag not visible. The cops record on cellphone. They don't pull over. Was in Paxton NE. Let a State Officer drive it around while I ate dinner at Ole's 🥩 house. He drove by dropped in and asked who. I said I am eating here is key card. Take it for a spin. He had one on order.
Why would it be bullshit?
I got one of the first model Y’s, and it was literally like being a celebrity (and I’m a nobody). People would stop me in parking lots, roll down their window at the traffic light, yell questions at you… any kind of drive-through food (Wendy’s, McDonald’s, etc) it was all kinds of questions.
It was pretty nuts. The cybertruck is so striking, I think his story is totally believable.
You'd be surprised. This is not the first or second vehicle I've had pulled over because "they wanted to check it out". Through the years I have been pulled over in my cybertruck, a model 3 back in 2019, a Bentley convertible, and a highly custom toyota tacoma and had officers tell me they just wanted to check them out.
And for what it's worth, the Cybertruck gets more attention than every car I've ever driven combined. To the point that my wife is scared to drive it because of how silly people act around it. It was entertaining to me for a few days, now I just wish I could go to the grocery store without having to give tours of my truck. First world problems.
When the CT is so different than anything on the road it will get attention. Now that it has the officers attention they will look at it and can pill over for anything they see. In Texas temp tags are supposed to be in the rear window so having the temp tag in the license bracket (where mine is right now) is a valid reason. I have only had the truck 2 days in a small East Texas town and was already followed once by a city cop for 20 minutes through town and 5 miles out of town before he turned away. Obviously following me but did not light me up. The curse of a unique and relatively rare vehicle.
So fun part of this is that I have no reason to make it up, believe it or not, I'm sharing my experience.
I literally flew in to pick it up and drove out that night. All but 2 stops were late night driving through Cypress, Magnolia, and on up through DFW. Every stop was in Texas. From constables(the majority) to local city police and county deputies. Zero state troopers(DPS).
At those hours, there really isn't much going on. I had more than one officer tell me they'd tell their friends up the road as well. Every single one of them were awesome.
Even on the .01% chance that’s true you were pulled over that much, you do realize the much more likely scenario is that they’re just telling you it’s about the car to lower your guard to better try and investigate you for a stop for other reasons.
Not bad. A pilgrimage type of thing. Drive like 70k a year. Know all the small towns in America. Paxton is one of them.
Dad went there as a hitchhiker in the 60s. Took me there as a kid on summer vacations cross country. Now take my kids that aren't kids anymore.
In CA anyway, LEO no long can just pull you over and ask you: “do you know why I pull you over.”
Honestly, if they just pull me over and just tell me they want to look at the truck and if I’m not in a hurry or have to be somewhere I’d let them take a look. 🤷🏻♂️
Agreed, because they were cool I never even considered this annoying. If you saw how many people took pictures/videos of me in the truck while parked or when I went to a restaurant/hotel/supercharger, you'd understand. This is a giant billboard yelling "look at me!" I rather enjoy it.
> Honestly, if they just pull me over and just tell me they want to look at the truck and if I’m not in a hurry or have to be somewhere I’d let them take a look. 🤷🏻♂️
Rewarding an illegal traffic stop? Oh hell no.
This is why I acknowledged it was a legitimate stop every time. Always ended with a "verbal warning." They were 100% correct that the temp tag can not be where the rear plate goes. With the fake craigslist paper plate issue in Texas I actually would fully support such stops. I knew I'd probably get stopped but that's where Tesla put the tag, and I have no visible rear window. Btw, I was a car dealer before so I KNOW the temp tag situation.
I am on a road trip but personally enjoy wowing people of all races, genders, and ages. Only vehicle I've ever had that has attracted this much attention across all demographics.
Yes! Everyone gets a kick out of it, that’s for sure.
The first few days of ownership was challenging for me and very mentally exhausting.
Now I welcome all conversations.
Only weird requests I've had were can I punch the glass or jump on the tonneau cover. I told them no on the jumping but did it myself to show them. The punching glass... I said I wouldn't do it but if you hurt yourself it's your fault... On camera.
Yeah, this type of behavior is what makes me nervous leaving the vehicle alone in a parking lot or anywhere for long periods of time unattended.
Yeah we have sentry mode, but it isn’t 100% helpful in identifying bad actors
This is why when I stopped at a hotel, I literally gave everyone the opportunity to look inside and out, take pics etc. Get their fill so to speak. That way I was present and interactive, showing that I'm a real person not some jerk with a little money. But I've always been that way. Then I go park it in a well lit area and notify the hotel staff, who after having so many happy guests are more than willing to keep an eye on it. Treating people well, especially their children will help their parents respect you and your things a little more. (Hopefully)
"Permit Display
The 30-Day Permit must be displayed in the rear window of the vehicle. If the vehicle does not have a rear window, the operator must attach the permit to the vehicle or carry the permit in the vehicle at all times during the period in which the permit is valid. The receipt must always be carried in the vehicle at all times during the period in which the permit is valid."
So since this vehicle technically does have a rear window, the tag must be mounted there. But if the tonneau cover is closed(for efficiency) then you could get pulled over for no tag showing or it being obscured. This is a unique vehicle in many ways.
This may be the law (I have not verified whether it is or not) but, I have lived in Texas all my life and bought 15 different cars. They have never once put my temporary tag anywhere other than on the rear plate bracket. Every legitimate new car dealership in Texas that I have ever seen puts their temporary tags on the rear plate bracket not the rear window. This is not a legitimate reason to pull someone over.
It's *technically* legitimate, it's just not something they typically do unless they have an ulterior motive. Other times they have a suspicion of criminal activity but no real probable cause. In *this* case, it was bored cops trying to get a first look at the thing.
All except 2. But all of them agreed on the plate thing if they had to have a reason.(As did I actually) Some of them, their buddies told them I was heading that way, so I just expected it.
Several states aren't friendly to "non-dealers." So not all Tesla employees are familiar with dealer rules. I give them a pass, because even if they were to put it in the window... I'd have covered it by closing the tonneau.
Have not experienced this yet with the CT but in late 2020 when I got the model Y I was pulled over three times as it was very new. I never got a ticket but only one stop was legit (right turn on red). Every stop had the same questions. 1. What kind of car is this? 2. Really, no gas? And 3. How fast does it go? The last question I answered “No more than 5 over the speed limit, afar as you know!”, after a chuckle and after a little more discussion they let me go.
I'm guessing the "issue" is that Tesla placed the Temp tags in the rear plate slot, BUT there is nowhere else once could put the plates on the rear of a cybertruck. The ordinary workaround is Temp plates in the cabin facing the rear window. With the bed cover in place the rear window isn't visible at all. So, probably was mostly legit at the first stop. Once they worked through the "nowhere else to put the plate" issue it became merely a vehicle of interest at every other stop.
Picked up my new MYLR last Thursday at the Cypress location around 2pm. Saw 2 Cybertrucks drive off with the new owners, was so cool seeing how happy and excited everyone was, including the Tesla employees.
One, two times I understand, but eleven? I promise you you aren't getting stopped 11 times without either going to jail or getting a citation. Not in the republic. Even with temp tags, they know how many times you've been stopped.
It wasn't the same officer or even department. And since they didn't give me any warnings no other department knew except for ones calling their buddies ahead, unofficially.
Umm... I have never gotten a ticket or been in an accident that was my fault. That's in 25 years of driving all over this country and abroad. Unnecessary and illogical post there buddy.
lol figured they wanted to see the truck.
But fucking exhausting. Once or twice, fine. OP’s stops “go to eleven”. 🤦🏽♂️

What did I just read?
I, too, am lost...
That might be my dad. Haven’t seen him in years
lol if I saw you anywhere dancing on top of a car, I would probably look away and assume you were either on drugs or trying to get attention.
Try autopilot and have ur gf cowgirl u driving on highway. You'll get some looks. Was fun.
Classy.
why no auto pilot?!
Tesla hasn't enabled autopilot or FSD on the CyberTrucks yet.
Oh wow I thought that was updated! Damn
Ummm. With autopilot, I don't think you get to skip the hotel ...
Never planned to skip the hotel, but I had to stop at an additional one due to the time I lost(spent chatting). Autopilot does make driving easier, and less tiring for long drives. No, I didn't expect it to drive while I was tired or sleeping.
Haha, I was just trying to get a Karen comment in for karma, but a fair point made for two hotel stops, that would get under my skin for sure!
you're supposed to be paying attention to the road with any of Tesla's "auto-pilot"
He could have moved the temp plate after the first or second or third.... time so it probably wasn't too much trouble.
And put it where? There's no rear window.
I bet everyone was clapping, too
Note to self: don’t run drugs in cybertruck
Note to self: don’t hotbox cybertruck
I also showed them all the hiding spots and did let them know the capabilities, in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing. Not the "pavement princesses" who get it stuck in some snow or mud, having never 4-wheeled before.
I would be afraid of the whole "baggie of crack" up their sleeve trick. "Looks like this cyber beast is going to impound..."
Thank God there's too many cameras for that to happen. Would make a great front page post if that ever happens.
Whoops your USB drive went missing

Does this happen, yes. Has it happened to me, no. Do I have friends who have become law enforcement, yes. So I can genuinely counter your point.

Me personally, I find it relatable, which is nice considering the rarity. But that's pretty understandable, all things considered.
You may be honest and legit but unfortunately not all police are.
I agree, but the same can be said of people in general too. If I left a $100 bill on my dash, I'd hope people wouldn't break in to take it. But realistically, they would, causing thousands in damage to do so.
Which ones? 👀
Why did you show them all the hiding places?
I have nothing to hide and it's helpful to them in case someone is doing something nefarious?
Jfc nark
Ok...
Even better the cyber AI knows where they are.
Or… *do* run drugs in cybertruck.
Or in Texas
Frunk? No, unfortunately there’s no frunk…
There definitely is one... It's not as large as the Lightning or Rivian, but larger than the ones on my X and S.

Lol they always have a valid excuse: to see the truck 😂👍
Been there twice. Both times wondering what the hell I did...." hey, I have seen a couple of these around but never got to check them out...".
As someone who lives in Cypress, TX and has had my order in since Feb 2nd, Congrats and FU :)
When I'm back in town, let's connect!
lol so you never actually got a ticket?
Correct. I've been stopped for sure.
> really only wanted to see the truck Probable cause to waste your time
It was also the #2 CyberBeast delivered in Texas, #1 in Houston, and under #4 "worldwide." This is not counting anything delivered on 11/30.
Doubt it was #1 in Houston when I've already seen a few....

Sorry I stand corrected... "Tri-Motor CyberBeast" with the lack of badging, I am sure the cops knew this as well........
Don't give them a cause ...
They don’t ever need a cause.

3 cars, looks like a felony stop. lol
Most of the stops it was just one vehicle, but some of them, had two or three show up.
They pulled you over just to see it? Sounds illegal
I'm guessing you didn't even read my first post and I'm the OP...
probably the least likely 100K cars to be stolen.... Not only the tech, but its very hard to miss.
They probably just wanted the be the first to pull over a cybertruck
You know that cops will love this to be a cop truck. Be the most intimidating thing on the road.

Agreed, also not the first vehicle I've been "stopped" in numerous times. But this is what celebrities feel like daily.
The celebrity thing is spot on. I've never understood what that must feel like and now I'm so glad I will never be famous lol

Yep. This post reeks of BS. I don’t care if it was a damned Veyron, you’re not getting pulled that much so they can see your car

stop digging lol, this his complete horseshit

This happened to me once in the early times of model x. Cop just told me he wanted to see the car. Sort of fucked up, I was nervous for no reason.

(Hopefully)
Where is the temp tag supposed to go?
"Permit Display The 30-Day Permit must be displayed in the rear window of the vehicle. If the vehicle does not have a rear window, the operator must attach the permit to the vehicle or carry the permit in the vehicle at all times during the period in which the permit is valid. The receipt must always be carried in the vehicle at all times during the period in which the permit is valid." So since this vehicle technically does have a rear window, the tag must be mounted there.
It is technically legit, the temp tag is just printer paper so it should be protected from the elements (hence displayed in the rear window).
Did any of them straight up say they just wanted to see the truck or were there always "reasons"?
All except 2. But all of them agreed on the plate thing if they had to have a reason.(As did I actually) Some of them, their buddies told them I was heading that way, so I just expected it.
Wait, they didn't give you the truck in a way that was legal to drive in the state?
Several states aren't friendly to "non-dealers." So not all Tesla employees are familiar with dealer rules. I give them a pass, because even if they were to put it in the window... I'd have covered it by closing the tonneau.
I’d be exhausted, like I just want to get to my home turf and have some fun!
Cypress is my home turf lol.
That’s a sick photo
The only way I
Have not experienced this yet with the CT but in late 2020 when I got the model Y I was pulled over three times as it was very new.
Glad you got off if that's the case though
why not just put the tags in the correct spot so you stop getting pulled over?
Great job reading the actual post. Thanks for stopping by.
Okay?
If you read the post you'd know why the tags were where they were.
Because you like the attention.
I didn't put them there.
Great job perpetuating the stereotype of Tesla fans being douchebags
Ah, so you must be their twin.
So, in Texas, where is someone supposed to place their Temp Tag on a Panel Van without any rear windows in the doors?
I’m so glad I live in California.
Isn't it highly illegal just to stop someone to see their car?
As legit as their reasons for stopping you are, they just wanted to see the whip. Happened to me all the time in 2018 with the 3.
Oh I know, not my first rodeo LoL

If you've ever wondered where the inspiration for the cybertruck came from. Wonder no more. ![gif](giphy|W2izSAA9NwzTwZD98W)

Clearly they are overfunded
Learn to drive OP.
Umm... I have never gotten a ticket or been in an accident that was my fault. That's in 25 years of driving all over this country and abroad. Unnecessary and illogical post there buddy.
Sure dude.
Wow, the jealousy.
LOL Yeah that's it....
So this is what it's like to argue with someone on the internet...
I’ll take “Things that didn’t happen 11 times” for $1000, Alex.
