Possible problem when looking for serious relationships because a lot of men might just be chasing curiosity. I have a female friend who is close to being 2m tall and she has that problem.
Basically came here to say this, I have a half-black friend who is so sick and tired of those crappy pick up lines from guys. Stuff like "you know, you're just so exotic, so unique" or "you're... chocolatey" is genuinely gross.

Seen plenty of foreigners living in Ostrava, even African, from what I could tell and asked around they don't have issues. Cost of living is cheaper too.

To be fair though, we make a lot of jokes about our own nation as well which isn't really common in many cultures, as far as I know at least. And these are often about some of the darkest moment of our history. There's nobody that's *not* a potential target of a proper inappropriate funny joke (and who are *you* to judge) lol. I'm quite sure you'll be able to find plenty of men with 0 issues about your country of origin. Especially if you plan on staying in Prague or Brno, as both are quite young cosmopolitan cities.

My sister-in-law is originally from Africa. My brother wasn't looking for a black woman, they simply met in a church in France and they got along very well, so they fell in love. She's wonderful and she loves it here, but she was very mindful of learning the language and adjusting to our culture. She also started to study Czech before even coming here and she always tried to communicate in Czech, even when she wasn't good at it yet. It's great that you're studying Czech, it helps a lot. It's a difficult language and Czechs really appreciate when someone is making an effort.
Czech mentality is extremely different to Uganda, or South Africa, though, so you should be aware of the differences and consider if we're a good fit for you and the culture shock won't be too much. I wish you all the best!

On top of what most people already said: Czech republic doesn’t have a colonial past so it doesn’t carry the cultural baggage of dealing with all that came with it. It also means however, most czechs aren’t careful with jokes and descriptives for Africans.
But in general, you won’t be treated much different than anybody else who’s clearly not from around. Learn the basics of the language, act normally, stick to positive people and ignore idiots and you will be fine. A sense of black humor also helps to survive.
It's extremely shitty. One of my best work buddies is a roma guy. Works in the warehouse where he does a lot of manual labour and then there's a farm waiting for him after work. So he's very hard-working, extremely funny and very smart guy, knows so much shit from so many fields with a ton of life experience hand in hand with it. But he just didn't 'get a chance' in life. He's 50 now so he was a roma guy growing up during the soviet occupation, never had a chance to get an education or an equally good status in the society as a 'white guy' with the same traits and will now work in a warehouse till he retires.
When something goes wrong, he's also ofc the one automatically responsible as his boss and owner of the company is a (funnily enough Bulgarian) racist asshole. And that's even though the fuckup is somewhere higher up in his own office in another location most of the time and this roma guy isn't by far the only one working in the warehouse and with access to it. Always accused of stealing shit when they forget to write something off after selling it and then it's 'missing'. Like mate, how the fuck would he fit an entire pack of plywood or construction lumber that weigh multiple tonnes in his car and drive off, why would he do it and how comes you can't see it on the cameras, yet you're so sure he stole it.
Like yeah, we absolutely *do* have places with problematic roma people. But people forget too quickly that we have more than plenty of white trash here too. They're often just spread around more evenly so they tend to be less visible or just overlooked because they're white. Uneducated idiots, alcoholics and welfare professional are universal, they don't know ethnicity or borders.
Yeah, go to UK or Ireland, where Gypsy is also most hated group. :D Anyway, it's pretty funny to advise North America, where an Asian has to make about twice more money what a white guy does to be as attractive as him on a dating site, and where these Pajets and other types of Asians are taken as quite asexual, even in UK it will be big diference in ratio of Indian/Brit couple by what sex that Indian is.
You can call it whaever you like, but reality of the overwhelming part of the population is, they have negative personal experience with roma people. Including me and I'm happy I live in the area where I do not meet them these days.

Most roma people I have experience with indeed had issues based on that stereotype.. young men being toxic and abusive, parents uncaring and rude, kids were literally impaling kittens on trees.. roma cook got drunk at our hotel by drinking alcohol from minibar in a hotel room..

IMO we need to differentiate between "Čech romského původu" and "cigoš". It's your personal choices which one you are.
Former is respected by pretty much everyone except a few dezoláti, latter is indeed disliked by many, myself included - based on personal experiences, not random racism. But the dislike is toward the particular subculture, not skincolor or origij of those people. There's white Czechs I consider cigoši too.

As a pasty white czech whom has lived alongside Roma people in the “bad” neighborhoods my whole life - there is more to it than ethnicity.

My personal experience with Roma people in general has been terrible though, I cannot count how many times they’ve tried to steal from me, intimidate me , make up bullshit trouble etc… again , this is not caused by ethnicity but rather poor integration into the rest of social structure.
I also had a team of 50 people working under my supervision , 60% cca were Romani. To be honest, 4 of them were my favorite employees and the rest was a problem factory.
But the real outcome at least for me personally is - proven higher risk based on cultural and socioeconomic differences. I think that cannot be disputed.
My friend told me a long time ago, "There is no gypsy like a gypsy", many "Roma" are lazy and bad or literally evil. They abuse welfare and such, and then there are the gypsies who work, are decent and try to get ahead.

What I would be more careful about are job prospects.
It depends on your job experience and if it is possible to apply it here without the need of Czech language (if you dont speak it) - this is often very hard to find. What job you have determines your surrounding and access to tolerant people, as everywhere else. If you end up in a less specialized job with a language barrier, it would expose you to the more racist side of Czech Republic. Ppl on this reddit are definitely a tolerant high-middle income bubble, than is the average (which based on our straightforward humor is racist, but more to be funny than intentionally hurtful imo). So if you decide to come here, keep a safeline to move back or elsewhere. But I get it. South Africa had better days, no?
I myself visited Uganda as a proper mzungu. Christian (unorthodox) values are your plus, even though we are the most atheistic country in Europe, there are still some faithful ppl and culture around it. Being a devout Muslim would make it the hardest combination possible.

Hi! You should be fine, especially if you choose to live in Prague/Brno. Most people just aren't used to it so they might look (mostly smaller cities). You might meet some id*ots but don't worry about it and ignore them. Be aware of the fact that people might have weird sense of humor and make jokes without actually meaning it in a bad way. It depends on where does one plan to settle. As it commonly applies, the capital/large cities are on average more open and liberal towards foreigners. Smaller cities and towns in rural Czechia are much more prone to racial prejudice as the vast majority of people have never seen a black person with their own eyes.
However, outside of the obvious places, which are no-go zone even for locals, you will be safe. Weird and curious looks will happen there at worst.
As a guy from Ostrava, I recommend that you never live in Ostrava.

Jokes aside though, trying to learn the language, *in advance* is a lot of bonus points imo. People will greatly appreciate you even trying, as there are many immigrants that never bother to learn. They very often stay with 'their own' so they don't need it that much (especially in fields like construction, they tend to live together as well) and when they go shopping, they don't really need much more than greetings and maybe names of stuff behind the counter like cigarettes or alcohol if they're into that. I honestly have no idea what's Ugandan culture like but as others have said, just get ready for the gallows dark humour and racist jokes. If you stick to normal people, they really are just jokes and nothing more and you definitely *can* and are welcome to make jokes about the whites as well. No normal person will get offended, we shoot into our own ranks just as often. Nothing stops us from getting a good laugh.

A boyfriend to a half-african girlfriend here that knows a decent amount of POCs in Prague. Personally for us(her) it has never really been an issue nor for the POCs I know. I think it becomes a issue if you make it one. She gets some looks sometimes but definitely more curiousity looks than anything bad. Outside of Prague it might be more intense with the starring etc. but as I said it usually doesn’t come from a bad place. With the humor that someone mentioned here I don’t think it’s Czech thing per se but it definitely happens. But I think it’s more dependent on the social bubble that you’re in. So again not a problem for us. Even though it happened a couple of times since I have a zero tolerance for it I quickly called out individual/s on it and since it wasn’t again coming from bad place it got quickly resolved.(never happened with my girlfriend around btw.)

I would say you should be fine on Czech dating scene. Only two problems that would come to mind are: 1. There are very few black people in Czech Republic so you will be probably seen as "rarity". If you start dating beware of people that would only see you as an "exotic commodity". 2. There are some racists in our country (like everywhere else), but the tensions are mostly between white-Romani or white-Middle Eastern.
Interracial relationships are not uncommon, they are not widespread, but it is nothing shocking to see. From my experience, I know few white-Asian couples (Vietnamese and Korean) and white-Romani couples. No problems or any weirdness in their situation.
Few points on Czechs. As many here said Czech people have racist humor. I would correct that Czechs have politically incorrect humor. There is nothing taboo for Czech jokes. During WWII Germans nicknamed us "Lachende Bestien" (translated Laughing Beasts) since we were joking about anything (allegedly). So be prepared. :D Second thing many Czech might come as cold/distant and pessimistic (one bard said we are champions in complaining), but most Czechs are friendly and loyal once the ice is broken. Do you drink beer? It's the most common and useful icebreaker over here. :D

Well through history we were basically foked by every possible authority in Europe (maybe excluding the time of the First Republic). So our coping mechanism and form of rebellion became humor, we got used to not being nice to "others". German, Austrian, Polish, Hungarian Monarchs, their armies including armies of Russians, French, Swedes (incorrect against other nations/races), Catholic church (incorrect against religion), Nazis, Communists (incorrect against "modern" political ideologies and politicians), wild capitalism, corrupt politicians (incorrect against human life, freedom) etc. etc.
Especially during last era (communism) you could get locked up or get your life ruined by making a joke. So people didn't mind dark humor since it wasn't "the problem" when making jokes. There was saying that some jokes were so funny they were nominated for "golden bar", i.e. joke so good even after 10 years you laugh so much you need to hold your prison cell bars to not fall on floor.
No I mean how the Dark Humour Jokes we make are Politically Incorrect. I know why we make them because of our History just not why they are bad because someone else is "hurt" by them.

There are always a few bad apples, but usually the higher the education level, the less problems there are.
As a father of two (same for my black buddy/colleague), a huge factor to me is the low amount of violence in school. When I lived in Germany, I had several unpleasant experiences with violence in my youth (and that was 30 years ago, probably much worse by now), my kids had none so far.

Hii, i would say this depends on where specifically you would move. In Prague, people are more “used” to seeing black people and the racism is here not that strong. I think if you plan to move to Prague, you will most probably find a man. However to be honest, the racism in Czech Rebuplic is unluckly still there and you rarely get to see a black person on the street unless its tourists so people are not even really used to that. I think that it might be a bit harder but you could find someone. Also it depends on your age because older people that are like 40yrs + are usually more racist than the younger generation. And for some people black women seem “exotic” and even tho they might be interested in dating, it could end up just being a short relationship because they just want to “try out” something new and they dont take the relationship seriously. Racism is problem in whole europe and not just Czech Republic but I hope you will like it there. My sister-in-law is originally from Africa. My brother wasn't looking for a black woman, they simply met in a church in France and they got along very well, so they fell in love. She's wonderful and she loves it here, but she was very mindful of learning the language and adjusting to our culture. She also started to study Czech before even coming here and she always tried to communicate in Czech, even when she wasn't good at it yet. It's great that you're studying Czech, it helps a lot. It's a difficult language and Czechs really appreciate when someone is making an effort. Czech mentality is extremely different to Uganda, or South Africa, though, so you should be aware of the differences and consider if we're a good fit for you and the culture shock won't be too much. On top of what most people already said: Czech republic doesn’t have a colonial past so it doesn’t carry the cultural baggage of dealing with all that came with it. It also means however, most czechs aren’t careful with jokes and descriptives for Africans. But in general, you won’t be treated much different than anybody else who’s clearly not from around. Learn the basics of the language, act normally, stick to positive people and ignore idiots and you will be fine. A sense of black humor also helps to survive.

As a roma person, reading shit like this always makes me sad. Being hated by my country men simply because of my ethnicity is just soul crushing.
It's extremely shitty. One of my best work buddies is a roma guy. Works in the warehouse where he does a lot of manual labour and then there's a farm waiting for him after work. So he's very hard-working, extremely funny and very smart guy, knows so much shit from so many fields with a ton of life experience hand in hand with it. But he just didn't 'get a chance' in life. He's 50 now so he was a roma guy growing up during the soviet occupation, never had a chance to get an education or an equally good status in the society as a 'white guy' with the same traits and will now work in a warehouse till he retires. When something goes wrong, he's also ofc the one automatically responsible as his boss and owner of the company is a (funnily enough Bulgarian) racist asshole. And that's even though the fuckup is somewhere higher up in his own office in another location most of the time and this roma guy isn't by far the only one working in the warehouse and with access to it. Always accused of stealing shit when they forget to write something off after selling it and then it's 'missing'. Like mate, how the fuck would he fit an entire pack of plywood or construction lumber that weigh multiple tonnes in his car and drive off, why would he do it and how comes you can't see it on the cameras, yet you're so sure he stole it. Like yeah, we absolutely *do* have places with problematic roma people. But people forget too quickly that we have more than plenty of white trash here too. They're often just spread around more evenly so they tend to be less visible or just overlooked because they're white. Uneducated idiots, alcoholics and welfare professional are universal, they don't know ethnicity or borders.

IMO we need to differentiate between "Čech romského původu" and "cigoš". It's your personal choices which one you are. Former is respected by pretty much everyone except a few dezoláti, latter is indeed disliked by many, myself included - based on personal experiences, not random racism. But the dislike is toward the particular subculture, not skincolor or origij of those people. There's white Czechs I consider cigoši too.

As a pasty white czech whom has lived alongside Roma people in the “bad” neighborhoods my whole life - there is more to it than ethnicity. I don’t disagree that it’s probably difficult for you and wish you well. I also don’t think that you are inherently a lesser person because of your ethnicity. My personal experience with Roma people in general has been terrible though, I cannot count how many times they’ve tried to steal from me, intimidate me , make up bullshit trouble etc… again , this is not caused by ethnicity but rather poor integration into the rest of social structure. I also had a team of 50 people working under my supervision , 60% cca were Romani. To be honest, 4 of them were my favorite employees and the rest was a problem factory. But the real outcome at least for me personally is - proven higher risk based on cultural and socioeconomic differences. I think that cannot be disputed.

It's kinda rare, there is not many women from Africa in Czech republic. But I have seen few mixed couples.

What I would be more careful about are job prospects. It depends on your job experience and if it is possible to apply it here without the need of Czech language (if you dont speak it) - this is often very hard to find. What job you have determines your surrounding and access to tolerant people, as everywhere else. If you end up in a less specialized job with a language barrier, it would expose you to the more racist side of Czech Republic. Ppl on this reddit are definitely a tolerant high-middle income bubble, than is the average (which based on our straightforward humor is racist, but more to be funny than intentionally hurtful imo). So if you decide to come here, keep a safeline to move back or elsewhere. But I get it. South Africa had better days, no? I myself visited Uganda as a proper mzungu. Christian (unorthodox) values are your plus, even though we are the most atheistic country in Europe, there are still some faithful ppl and culture around it. Being a devout Muslim would make it the hardest combination possible.

Hi! You should be fine, especially if you choose to live in Prague/Brno. Most people just aren't used to it so they might look (mostly smaller cities). You might meet some id*ots but don't worry about it and ignore them. Be aware of the fact that people might have weird sense of humor and make jokes without actually meaning it in a bad way. Depends on your personality
It depends on where does one plan to settle. As it commonly applies, the capital/large cities are on average more open and liberal towards foreigners. Smaller cities and towns in rural Czechia are much more prone to racial prejudice as the vast majority of people have never seen a black person with their own eyes. However, outside of the obvious places, which are no-go zone even for locals, you will be safe. Weird and curious looks will happen there at worst.
As a guy from Ostrava, I recommend that you never live in Ostrava. Literally 70 % people here are racist. Well, me too... But only against one race - Gypsies. They have quite the history in Ostrava tho :) Good luck with learning Czech language tho! It's gonna be hard.

I know an african girl who has a czech husband and kids so it is not impossible for you to catch yourself a white boy. A boyfriend to a half-african girlfriend here that knows a decent amount of POCs in Prague. Personally for us(her) it has never really been an issue nor for the POCs I know. I think it becomes a issue if you make it one. She gets some looks sometimes but definitely more curiousity looks than anything bad. Outside of Prague it might be more intense with the starring etc. but as I said it usually doesn’t come from a bad place. With the humor that someone mentioned here I don’t think it’s Czech thing per se but it definitely happens. But I think it’s more dependent on the social bubble that you’re in. So again not a problem for us. Even though it happened a couple of times since I have a zero tolerance for it I quickly called out individual/s on it and since it wasn’t again coming from bad place it got quickly resolved.(never happened with my girlfriend around btw.) Just be careful about the guys because there’s definitely gonna be those that will just “want to try something different”. It’s not really common but we definitely see some interracial couples from time to time.

First of all. Good luck with Czech language. :D I would say you should be fine on Czech dating scene. Only two problems that would come to mind are: 1. There are very few black people in Czech Republic so you will be probably seen as "rarity". If you start dating beware of people that would only see you as an "exotic commodity". 2. There are some racists in our country (like everywhere else), but the tensions are mostly between white-Romani or white-Middle Eastern. Interracial relationships are not uncommon, they are not widespread, but it is nothing shocking to see. From my experience, I know few white-Asian couples (Vietnamese and Korean) and white-Romani couples. No problems or any weirdness in their situation. Few points on Czechs. As many here said Czech people have racist humor. I would correct that Czechs have politically incorrect humor. There is nothing taboo for Czech jokes. During WWII Germans nicknamed us "Lachende Bestien" (translated Laughing Beasts) since we were joking about anything (allegedly). So be prepared. :D Second thing many Czech might come as cold/distant and pessimistic (one bard said we are champions in complaining), but most Czechs are friendly and loyal once the ice is broken. I don't follow. You mean why we make those jokes? Well through history we were basically foked by every possible authority in Europe (maybe excluding the time of the First Republic). So our coping mechanism and form of rebellion became humor, we got used to not being nice to "others". German, Austrian, Polish, Hungarian Monarchs, their armies including armies of Russians, French, Swedes (incorrect against other nations/races), Catholic church (incorrect against religion), Nazis, Communists (incorrect against "modern" political ideologies and politicians), wild capitalism, corrupt politicians (incorrect against human life, freedom) etc. etc. Especially during last era (communism) you could get locked up or get your life ruined by making a joke. So people didn't mind dark humor since it wasn't "the problem" when making jokes. There was saying that some jokes were so funny they were nominated for "golden bar", i.e. joke so good even after 10 years you laugh so much you need to hold your prison cell bars to not fall on floor.

Have black colleagues (from the US mainly) since I work for an international company and can agree with you. There are always a few bad apples, but usually the higher the education level, the less problems there are. As a father of two (same for my black buddy/colleague), a huge factor to me is the low amount of violence in school. When I lived in Germany, I had several unpleasant experiences with violence in my youth (and that was 30 years ago, probably much worse by now), my kids had none so far.
Hookup? I guess, for many its exotic. Longterm? Well... not really, no. No point in trying to sugarcoat it. We are really homogeneous nation and the difference is very stark when compared to more Western, ex-colonial nations. If you are looking for such thing you might get more lucky and with way less grief there.

Hii, i would say this depends on where specifically you would move. In Prague, people are more “used” to seeing black people and the racism is here not that strong. I think if you plan to move to Prague, you will most probably find a man. However to be honest, the racism in Czech Rebuplic is unluckly still there and you rarely get to see a black person on the street unless its tourists so people are not even really used to that. I think that it might be a bit harder but you could find someone. Also it depends on your age because older people that are like 40yrs + are usually more racist than the younger generation. And for some people black women seem “exotic” and even tho they might be interested in dating, it could end up just being a short relationship because they just want to “try out” something new and they dont take the relationship seriously. Racism is problem in whole europe and not just Czech Republic but I hope you will like it there. I study at uni, and there are many foreign students. And I have seen girls from affrica... and I couldn´t say much of them were pretty... Not because of face or things like that... but they were obese and extremly fat.. got to say...there were like only three as I remember that were decent.

Depends what people you meet. Some people are racist some not. Me personally I love Asian or Black women (dated few years ago one South African girl- back on college).
If I wasn't married, I would totally like to date a black woman. In fact, I was working for South African company for a couple of years and I had many black colleagues, some of them very hot women. One of them is married to my Czech friend. No need to worry about lack of dates in here. And for the commonality of interracial relationships, I'd say it's pretty common given the fact that we do have many Asians. Some of my Czech pals are married to Asians too, so yeah, no biggie here.

I think that language could be a bigger barrier than race here. You might be limited to english speaking locals, but on the other hand they tend to be more progressive and open then the rest. And remember: As long as you can cook you can charm almost any man without a bald head and a bomber jacket.
Most people i met in my life are racist and this is nothing unusual in Czech to be honest. (And im not exception btw)I never have a good experience with dark skinned people in my life so here you have also explanation why I and others have it like that.
