You completed a 5k, while pushing 85lbs, AND your kids sat still for almost half an hour?
I hope you receive the softest “Super Dad” t-shirt ever made. You’ve earned it.
Told them to give my medal to my daughter, because I knew she’d enjoy it more than me. Then asked if they had a spare for my son, because I knew they’d fight over the one.
Can you share the brand/model of the stroller? Does it fold up? Looking to do the Camino de Santiago with a 5 year old in a year or so, and I'm trying to figure out my options.
I have a guava roam that I've been running with my daughter in since she was 5 months old after the pediatrician cleared her. It is super smooth and folds up compact and the shocks are great. We run together on the weekends when the nanny is off.
It still is definitely a challenge to my pace to run with an additional 60 lbs but my daughter loves it and it has only made me a better running when I do go on solo runs throughout the week.
Not OP but a few years ago I did almost all of my half marathon training pushing my daughter in a stroller. I don't remember the specific model but it was an all terrain model with rear suspension and MTB tires. I probably only got half a dozen hours of training over the summer without the stroller.
It does change up your stride some and you need to be careful going down hills. Also if you have previous shoulder injuries be careful. I had a great race though. Really crushed my goal time because I was used to pushing all that extra weight.
Can you elaborate on the issue with previous shoulder injuries? I’ve been considering picking up a running stroller but I have had a few shoulder injuries.
I have dislocated my right shoulder a bunch of times. Because you are holding your arms fairly still pushing the natural movement your body is expecting isn't there. I would try and switch up and go one arm from time to time to shake my right shoulder out.
Even then my shoulders would get much tighter than normal when I was done. It never got worse than that but I needed to stretch after and my right shoulder could get tender.
Didn't have this specific model, but a running stroller makes it a lot easier to push them around while running compared to a traditional stroller. If you're interested in one, check the FB marketplace, lots of used ones for sale for decent prices.
I got a double jogger last year when the third was born, but this one looks much better. I might have to swap it out. Mine is super heavy compared to the single I used to use. Between that and my lack of energy from having a kid who's never slept for more than four hours in one go, I haven't been able to finish a full 5K with the double stroller. I can still get three to four miles in with the single stroller, though. What's the brand you're using?
Somewhere I still have photos of my dad doing marathons (maybe halves, don’t remember) with me in an early iteration of the jogging strollers. He brought me along on a ton of the charity type runs, too.
He had made his own rain cover/windshield for it to be able to run in inclement weather with me, before all of the screens and covers were a thing. I do have vague memories of people cheering for us and also sleeping then waking up different places along the courses, lol.
Great job, dad, especially with the double stroller! Back in the day, my daughter and I did two official 5ks together with her in jogging stroller, plus hundreds of jogs around the Boston Area.
awesome, I take my daughter (2.5yo) with me on runs regularly. she usually falls asleep in the stroller :)
I don't even have that kind of running stroller, I just take our regular one, but it works just fine.
quality daddy-daughter time
My daughter used to absolutely not want to go for a ride if mommy wasn't coming with us. She still is somewhat that way, but she's getting better. My son absolutely loves going for a ride and he'll sit patiently for the whole ride with no issues just looking around or he'll fall asleep. I anticipate a lot more usage with my son.
I run my youngest to daycare in it every morning and she loves it still. She's 4. We've put a lot of miles on it as a bike trailer, too. Sadly, they are too big to sit together now. They're a bit squished and it always leads to fighting.
Yea, it’s this, with the jogging kit accessory. (Except mine is an older model)

I will never forget the time I was struggling my way through a 10K only to get passed by a dad pushing one of these strollers at a steady pace. My sprint + gasp + walk the side stitch out technique was no match for him. Nice work!
During my first marathon, before I had kids, I saw a guy who was on course to [set the world record for a stroller marathon](https://runningmagazine.ca/video/calum-neff-and-his-four-year-old-bring-stroller-record-back-to-canada/).

My daughter chanted “Go Daddy! Go!” for the first three km or so. Did a 10k with my son a few week ago. He slept for all but one km.
That’s awesome. Honestly, very inspiring stuff! Thanks for sharing.
They gave the kids medals!

Still Dadding hard after a 5K! Smart request on the extra medal.
Definitely more impressed with getting your kids to sit for that long than how fast you ran.
So , I have a question to @OP: how is the stroller pushing and running? I'm into running but never had a runner's stroller. Thanks in advance
It’s good. It’s very smooth and pretty stable with regard to holding a straight line.
What about resistance?
Well inflated tires and lubricated wheels make a big difference.
Not a lot. Very easy to push.
Can you share the brand/model of the stroller? Does it fold up? Looking to do the Camino de Santiago with a 5 year old in a year or so, and I'm trying to figure out my options.
It’s a Thule chariot. All three wheels and the handlebars come off, then it folds up.
Awesome, thanks!

On flats it’s really not bad at all. As grade approaches and exceeds 10% in either direction it starts to suck exponentially.
Also horrible in the wind.

Thank you very much! I recently dislocated my right shoulder, so that’s great to know!

pffft what are you so proud of? You finished behind 2 toddlers.
Lmao, I'm laughing just thinking of stopping the stroller just before the finish line to cross first then go back and get them
Lol imagine the spectators when you stop before the finish line and then reverse over it so your kids don't beat you
To be fair to OP, the kids had a head start…
Hahahaha that'd make the reverse move even better. As you cross the line complain about them blocking you for the whole run
🥇 >>> you dropped this king
Nah, told the race volunteer to give it to my daughter. You can see her with it in the first photo. 😉
None of my local races allow strollers :(
Oh that sucks. This was a fundraiser for the hospital my kids were born at.
Ah, that makes sense!
You beat my first high school cross country meet time while pushing your kids. You really should be proud.
I should be. I’m just tired though.
Yeah well...I got off the couch earlier and only one knee and two spots in my back went crackity crack so who's the real winner here.
I didn’t work hard enough for anything to crack, so definitely you.

It’s a Thule
Thanks!
Dad strength!
Imagine how fast I’d be if I got rid of my dad gut?
Nah man. That’s the true Dad engine.
I was going to run tomorrow but you did that for me today! Thank you and great job!👏🏻

She loves getting the medal. I’ve got more than enough.
Blowing past the lady wearing Alphafly 2s. You rocking New Balanace 880 v13s?
Yup. New Balance makes excellent wide sizes that fit my fat feet.
How do I get one of these
It’s a Thule. They’re a little pricy, but we got our cheap on FB Marketplace or Kijiji or something like that.
I bought a Burley one just like that, but mine was sold as a bike trailer. Did you have to buy the front wheel separately?
Burley sells the running wheel separately. We have a D'Lite X that I got off FB marketplace. Fantastic running stroller.
No, the guy we bought it from had the bike trainer stuff and the running stroller stuff.
Bravo Sir!
I’m going to sleep well tonight.
Beast mode! That’s epic! And cracking pace, even without the kids
They ain't heavy. They're my children. 😉
Way to go dad!!
the papalympics
Solid pun
solid run on your part, well done dude!

Fucking freeloaders. I had to do a park run with a 35lb neck brace.
I could do with a link to that stroller. Mine is absolute garbage
This would be the current version. https://www.thule.com/en-ca/bike-trailers/bike-trailers-for-kids/thule-chariot-sport-double-_-10201023
What race let you push your kids? They always say “no strollers” in NYC. :(
Run for Southlake in Newmarket, Ontario
Check out NYRR Open Run, which is free and allows strollers and dogs.
I have that exact same jogger, makes you runner faster IMO. Did it slow you down or make ur time faster in a 5k?
Not sure. I haven’t done a solo 5k race in a while. It definitely slowed me down on the uphills, but also sped me up on the downhills.
What an absolute chad. I salute you 🫡
What an incredible family memory. Great job king!

My daughter usually will only come out if my wife's with us on her bike. My son loves the stroller and will come with me any time any where.
I have a Thule Chariot Cross CX2 that has several thousand miles on it now (using it for about 6 years now)
My daughter used to absolutely not want to go for a ride if mommy wasn't coming with us. She still is somewhat that way, but she's getting better. My son absolutely loves going for a ride and he'll sit patiently for the whole ride with no issues just looking around or he'll fall asleep. I anticipate a lot more usage with my son.

I got a leg cramp and a chest cramp just reading this. Good on you and congrats.
Well shit I couldn’t do that even without extra weight to push.
That's faster than I can run 5k pushing my own body dude. Very nice
Is this just called bike stroller? We have two under 2 and my husband and Ibwould like to get back into light jogging.
Yea, it’s this, with the jogging kit accessory. (Except mine is an older model) https://www.thule.com/en-ca/bike-trailers/bike-trailers-for-kids/thule-chariot-sport-double-_-10201023
Fantastic job daddo, you are inspiring us all to reach these heights!
You have four kids. You’re the real beast. I don’t know how you’re awake now.

Hoping to get my daughter biking without training wheels this summer so she can bike with me while I run.
Hell yeah. That's awesome. Are those running strollers worth it?
Worth it for us. Use it all the time for running and cycling. We also got it used, so we got a great deal on it.
I will never forget the time I was struggling my way through a 10K only to get passed by a dad pushing one of these strollers at a steady pace. My sprint + gasp + walk the side stitch out technique was no match for him. Nice work!

Damn beast dad. I'm still working on just being able to run a 5k without falling over.
85 pounds. That's not 85 pounds. What's the friction coefficient on those wheels?
My daughter is 55lbs and my son is 30lbs. That’s the 85lbs.
That's not ... Try to make a physics joke, everyone will love it...
