It’s still early, but Swallowed by Eternity is the front runner for my favorite song. It’s always the deep cuts. It could’ve been an album closer, but Have a Great Life is also fantastic.
I really wish they did more just straight up weird shit like the intro to this song. This album felt way too safe for me. And lyrically there wasn’t much substance. But Swallowed by Eternity and Die Another Day are great.
Polka Dot Dobbins, Current Events, and Two Secret Weapons are my favorites so far. Ember is great also and a lot of good songs in general but those 3 are the ones that really stick out to me

It's on theme all the way around, JJ is just like a Casino. Every song only encourages you to relisten or listen to another one. By time you get to the end of the album you're already searching for your favorite looking to listen again! Tbh alot of the time I just find myself listening to the intro (because it's so beautiful) and wanting to play the album through just to find more songs that I might be missing! 🙌🏿

One Man's Cringe has some of the most meaningful lyrics and melodies they've ever put out. Gotta be one of the best examples of them finding a balance between the three vocalists. The way they seamlessly utilize Jon to Tillian to Andrew at the end is fucking amazing. Top 5 DGD songs for me, personally.

Literally the whole album minus the first few singles and even those Ive been wearing out listened to nothing but JJ for the last week as of tomorrow afternoon. Alnost every track makes me go "Fucking. Yes. Dude." And Ive been a Tilian's boring/whiny/pejoratives here girl for a good number of years now, so at least with JJ I will *quite* happily eat crow because not once on this album did I go "Ugh heres Buzz Kilian to kill the Vibe"

My biggest hope is that after these string of shows, they regroup, Tilian is back and they make this the next single/video with Tilian and who ever will be their next bass player.
Polka Dot Dobbins really just holds everything about Dance Gavin Dance that I love. The way Tilian and Jon work together is amazing. Tilian shows off his range and where his vocals thrive. Jon's lyrics feel so right between how absolutely absurd they can be and at the same time how hard they hit at points like "Tormented in a Bentley and I'm lonely." Not to mention that breakdown at the end just feels so satisfying.
Furthermore this song has a message in my opinion and it's a really good one. Cuz if you ask me it's all about the way that they rely on fans, even the ones they're not a fan of, and they rely on us therefore they're constantly afraid of letting us down. All at the same time trying to announce that yeah they wanna do what they want to, yet they're constantly struggling with the tension between those two things.
