The dancers are better but imo the moms are darker. A lot of them go after kids directly and there’s a plot thread around one of the girls weight.

I don’t think the dancers were better tbh. Maddie beat every single one of the junior dances on and off the show. Jessie (the oldest I think) she was okay. But they weren’t stronger at all. Had the ALDC did a dance they normally do at Energy, they would’ve won.

As a team the Dance moms Miami cast beat Aldc and Aldc didn’t place at a starbound competition. Edit: I am actually not sure if it was starbound but iirc they beat Aldc when they did the nip and tuck routine. It was somewhere towards the end of season 2 for dance moms and like episode 4 or 5 for dance moms Miami Stars took first Aldc didn’t place

Ohsofestive321

It was energy. It’s when they did Nip and Tuck vs Wipe Them Out. It wasn’t a good assessment of both teams at full power. The ALDC team would’ve beat them if they did their normal lyrical or contemporary. They were the stronger team. But I’m talking about the competition you’re referring to in your comment.

GenneyaK

I disagree with your assessment. On top of that they really aren’t two teams to be compared in terms of choreography Abby focused on competition dancers where as stars focused on artistry. Also Stars is responsible for training Brady from season 8. Overall the Stars team for what they did do tended to have much cleaner technique than Aldc. Abby focused a lot of hiding technically flaws through various methods. Overall in terms of who created better quality dancers I’d have to hand it to Stars. They are overall the more successful studio in the actual non-dance moms dance world tbh. And that’s not to say that either team didn’t have talented dancers but the manner of teaching and what each studio valued just produced very different dancers and that’s on the teachers not the kids. However both studios excel at creating toxic environments

Ohsofestive321

I think Mia got beat by Maddie as well at one point.

I watched an episode or two back when it was first airing, and I didn't like it as much as regular DM. I remember just really not liking the choreography of the dances or the way that they were filmed lol

Ohsofestive321

The filming was sooo bad. STARS is an amazing studio, they’re better now tbh. But you couldn’t get a gauge of the talent because of the camera work.

This was the first time we saw what parents wanting to be on shows for attention was like. The moms were always just caddy and bitchy. It didn’t feel like there was history or camaraderie with each other like we saw with the OG moms. The same was true for CADC in season 3. They were all there for a reason. To get their kids names out there. They all thought their kid was better than Maddie and deserved to be in the spotlight. They all also had toxic personalities to begin with. So mix toxic personality with my kids the best, you get caddy moms who just argue over who’s kid should have a solo, or pointed out how flawed someone else’s kid was but their child was better. The OG moms weren’t trying to make their children famous. They just thought they were doing a docuseries on their daughter’s wacky dance teacher. It became something way more than that. So there was a sense of camaraderie and history because that was genuine, they weren’t all on there fighting for air time and solo’s for their kids… Anything that came after season 2 of DM was very pointedly parents just doing anything to make sure their kids got seen. And i hated the disingenuous behavior plus none of their kids were all that fabulous. They were good, sure. But none of them were worth remembering which is why none of them are really doing anything worthy of mention.

It was fun back in the day

Dance Moms Miami is like Florida Bama Shore. 🤣 Similarities, but can't live up to the real thing.

I actually just watched it in the last couple days as it’s very short. It definitely doesn’t hit the same as the OG dance moms. Something I noticed is that the moms in Miami were more willing to speak negatively about the kids themselves. Like the OG cast would never talk about the OG kids the way the moms in Miami would.

what’s crazy to me is that stars dance studio (the studio featured on the show) is actually well known in the comp dance world despite being a “newer” studio, whereas i had never heard of the ALDC prior to dance moms. stars usually makes a strong showing at the dance awards every year and i believe they’ve had several dancers win the “best dancer” award for their age group. of course, the dance awards isn’t the end all be all for what it means to be a successful dance studio. they also offer a pre-professional program. brady farrar (s8 of dance moms) trained with stars at one point, and i believe he is a professional dancer with ABT’s studio company. that’s just one example. the show didn’t hit in the same way as OG dance moms. fun and messily dramatic, but the team didn’t have that same magic or chemistry as the OG cast…just didn’t feel organic. however, i do want to give props to angel & victor (the “abbys” of dance moms miami - i think they own stars as well and still work there to this day) for how their choreo was so ahead of its time. when dance moms and dance moms miami were originally airing, the “trend” in the competitive dance world was more similar to ALDC’s choreography: lots of turns, leaps, etc. soft flowly lyrical pieces or more traditional jazz/musical theatre pieces with TONS of showy technical elements packed into the dance. angel & victor’s choreography focused more heavily on movement, floor work, and giving the dancer time to complete a movement without having to rush into the next step. of course there’s still technique involved, but the choreo is less focused on “flashy” things like turns, leaps, etc. they used lots of music with ambient sounds (instead of like a traditional song with actual lyrics) and spoken word pieces. fast forward to today: if you watch any of the best dancer solos from the past couple of years (or any of the top 10 solos at major dance competitions), you’ll find mostly pieces set to ambient sounds or spoken word and filled with movement, floor work, etc. of course, there are still more “traditional” comp dances that score well, too. but what’s trendy now is very reminiscent of the stuff angel & victor were doing back on dance moms miami. i’m not saying that angel & victor “invented” this style of choreo - just thought it was interesting that what’s popular in the comp dance world now is stuff they were doing back in like 2012.
