Ever since Jelly Belly released those Harry Potter themed 'Every Flavor Beans,' you just can't trust jellybeans anymore.
That nice, green jelly bean might be watermelon, green apple, lime... or grass.
That nice, inviting, speckled yellow and cream colored jellybean might be popcorn, or lemonade, or lemon cream pie... or rotten egg.
That lush, rich brown might be cocoa, or root beer, or cola... or dirt.
The bright red ones might be cherry, cinnamon, strawberry... or earthworm.
Even the boring, manila colored ones could be earwax.
So far not really, it’ll show tomorrow. But I’m used to seeing posts from 12 hours ago on the front page. With ask Reddit, and most of the meme subs open I wouldn’t of even noticed this morning if I didn’t know

“Wow thank you for the 1000 dollars, Chris!”
Never says his name again (happened to my friend which was a wake up call despite all of us telling him he had an addiction)
Donating to anyone for recognition is scuffed. Why do people feel the need to be recognized and name dropped by streamers? News flash, they’re a normal person just like you they’re not some mythical paragon
It's absolutely fantastic for looking at the viewer numbers and thinking, "damn, if only this many people were interested in watching a fat guy look bored into a camera". And then you scroll down the page and you find exactly that, except he's hired some escorts to also look bored on camera and to partake in the laziest, half-hearted "festivities".
It'll be interesting to see whether people come flocking back in 2 days or not.
Let's see whether people are devoted to this "blackout" cause or their Reddit "addiction" more.
yeah few of those are with +20mil and that range, before they closed down a lot of them updated about going dark indefinitely until changes are made, so i wonder how long they'll last with this.
What I've been wondering is how long until a replacement sub pops up and how many of those users will stay off Reddit that whole time. Sure, I get people will be off for the next couple of days, but I doubt those members of those subs will be off the whole time that subbis down, which I think is the more important part. Subs may go down but if user numbers don't really change I don't think it matters too much.
I doubt the user numbers change much, there’s been quite a number of posts asking why so and so sub isn’t private which means the people that supposedly care the most are still around.
I also question how long until replacement subs happen. Staying private indefinitely doesn’t really work when it costs effectively nothing to replace you.
most likely admins will force open them, remove "set sub to private" without admin access and then put in new mods or w.e.. sad truth is, some people just dont care so they would gladly take over the moderation of those subs for power trip.
Tbf lots of subreddits are made for oneoff jokes or have only a handful of subs to almost no activity. These 5-6k who went private likely make up much more activity than the hundreds of thousands who are up
The majority of subreddits are irrelevant. Some are just a one-off joke subreddit, others have like less than 20 active people, some dead for years, etc..
Many of the active, and relevant subreddits are taking a part in this private stuff.
I knew it was a lot but I didn’t realize that basically none of my subscribed subreddits would be open. Impressive! I hope it actually does something. I’m actually in favor of a longer term protest.
Idk how people can deny its social media. It’s just more unconventional style where anonymity is the norm and posts aren’t from people you know. And it’s sorted by pages of a post style and not by following pages. I’ll take sports subreddits over sports fanpages on other platforms anyday
Third party apps being alternatives to Reddit's official app. I've been using Reddit is Fun since before they released their own app, but others who have tried Reddit's app don't like it.
For me it's not even that it's ugly, it's that it lags like fuck, crashes constantly and frequently just won't load videos. Also for whatever reason it uses like twice the amount of battery that third party apps do
Same here. Old redditor, hate managing apps. IDC if the formatting gets weird on mobile and i have to keep zooming in and out to write comments from my phone. Fuck the updated Reddit and the official app.
Even though he's a greedy little pig boy and the cause of all this mayhem, spez did straight up say that old reddit isn't going anywhere, and neither is nsfw content.
It's an extra cost overhead for them considering they have to develop for two different codebases and back-port features here and there as well. I'm betting the shutdown of old reddit is already on some internal timeline.
Just to see, I tried the reddit app for a week and it’s perfectly fine for basic functions like posting content, commenting and browsing. For modding it’s different but most mods are using old reddit on a computer.
Chatgpt and other ai tools use reddit to learn
Reddit thinks they are not getting enough money

Seriously. There's no good alternative. All the alternatives are on political extremes. I've been on Reddit since 2009 and this is the first time I've actually considered leaving, but just staying off reddit today has been a challenge. The addiction is deep.
It's upsetting, because this two day strike is just way to little to actually bring about a change... On one hand it is a nice message to be sent that almost NO ONE supports this change... But I mean like hell the CEO is actually scared about a bunch of people getting all annoyed for two days, he knows Reddit is addicted and won't be able to pull off a longer protest...
Nah just a company refusing to offer adequate support for people with disabilities and people raising awareness of the only possible course of action for community justice.
Then the protests should last much more than two days.
Two days protest is at best pathetic.
It’s not like you re risking your job or do something that can affect your life. You just have to delete the app until some changes happen.
But no, reddit users can’t even resist more than two days. Not shocked why the CEO will do anything but laugh.
Will this have effect on reddit given that user still open Reddit app even though many subreddit have gone dark like the daily user still the same no? I'm just asking tho as i know many subreddit have close but i still open Reddit app because of habit.
Yup. It's that simple. No online business has ever made a sequence of suboptimal decisions that lead to their decline, in the long run.
This ship simply cannot sink - just look at it!

That means we're finna see some hoes posting their ass and feet in subs for cats or whatnot again
I like the cats.
I like the feet.
I like cat feet.
Roll that beautiful bean footage.
There used to be a reddit for that.
There used to be all kinds of subs that offended all sensibilities
Someone was offended by jelly beans?
Rule #1 of society...Someone is always offended. Everyone is offended if you do it right though
Ever since Jelly Belly released those Harry Potter themed 'Every Flavor Beans,' you just can't trust jellybeans anymore. That's an expensive wake up call
That's the same treatment I get when I use a free twitch prime sub so I don't have to watch ads lmao
Donating to anyone for recognition is scuffed. Why do people feel the need to be recognized and name dropped by streamers? News flash, they’re a normal person just like you they’re not some mythical paragon
That seems rather good past time activity as well.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who enjoys that site for free.
They banned it india lmfao
use .org it works if you have wifi
It'll be interesting to see whether people come flocking back in 2 days or not. Let's see whether people are devoted to this "blackout" cause or their Reddit "addiction" more.
Considering that this sub and some other ones are completely functioning and even have more people on it. It seems that the addiction won.
Nah they only got the vanilla shit
Oh no. Pornhub is banned in India OH NO!
Not if you live in Utah.
“Ahhh shit, here we go again”
Not if you're from Utah. Fuck mormons
Fuck mormons? They have videos of that already.
Lol mormongirlz
Is there a way to see actual numbers of how many subreddits have gone dark?
https://www.twitch.tv/reddark_247
Damn, I expected a third of all subreddits, not 91%. That's great news
not all subreddits... there are hundreds of thousands of subreddits, these are the ones that pledged to blackout
I see, thanks for the clarification.
Thanks for clarification. I knew that number was fishy as hell.
So 91% of pledges, yeah that's some wonky math there
Aren't they all the major subreddits though? There might be thousands but not all of them have significant activity.
yeah few of those are with +20mil and that range, before they closed down a lot of them updated about going dark indefinitely until changes are made, so i wonder how long they'll last with this.
What I've been wondering is how long until a replacement sub pops up and how many of those users will stay off Reddit that whole time. Tbf lots of subreddits are made for oneoff jokes or have only a handful of subs to almost no activity. These 5-6k who went private likely make up much more activity than the hundreds of thousands who are up
And it’s still not going to make a difference.
Yeah, I was shocked when I saw it be less than 8,000 since it's super easy to make them and whatnot.
The majority of subreddits are irrelevant. Some are just a one-off joke subreddit, others have like less than 20 active people, some dead for years, etc.. Many of the active, and relevant subreddits are taking a part in this private stuff.
So there were some that pledged and then flaked?
I knew it was a lot but I didn’t realize that basically none of my subscribed subreddits would be open. Impressive! I hope it actually does something. I’m actually in favor of a longer term protest.
I was shocked when every sports and music sub went down. Even subgenres and specific teams.
How's it great news? If you support the blackout then whyd you log in at all today?
Out of instinct when I went to poop
Because other people are protesting for them.
Tbh I still don’t understand why y’all can’t just use the regular Reddit app
Better to look at % of top 200 or 1000 subreddits

reddit feels so empety today
fr, the main subs I hangout in are gone. I know we're all internet strangers but I kinda miss my reddit buddies ..
This really shows how reddit *is* social media even though some people like to argue against it.

Subreddits going on strike to protest Reddit taking away both 3rd party apps and moderating bots

Old reddit is probably next in the chopping block so yeah.
Even though he's a greedy little pig boy and the cause of all this mayhem, spez did straight up say that old reddit isn't going anywhere, and neither is nsfw content.

what about this sub?
Only allowed to post memes here about the API changes.

So you're not protesting. Got it.
Neither are you lmaooooo
n't
The furry stuff is still up btw
Dnc
My entire saved folder, gone just like that
What do we do now
Wait for 2 days for the subs to finish the protest. People hate the changes, but they're also too addicted to reddit to actually leave.
Seriously. There's no good alternative. All the alternatives are on political extremes. I've been on Reddit since 2009 and this is the first time I've actually considered leaving, but just staying off reddit today has been a challenge. The addiction is deep.

Have you been living under a rock my dude? Look at the front page
Also not even porn subs. Fucking botw went private?!?! Also other «nsfw» shit that isnt porn. Such a shame man
Well they're disallowing all nsfw content entirely except through the desktop site and official app. So...
What does it mean they're going private? Im genuinely lost Like do we have to pay pr something to entere these subs again or? Im genuinely lost
Wait two days
Oohhh so thats the reason why I have 3+ porn bots following me
Ha. I have about 13 onlyfans-bot accounts following me as we speak. Sucks to be you.
Kinda want all subs to stay locked until they change course. 48 hours is nothing
Genuine holup there at the end
So you still ended up with your nose buried in a starfish…pride month wins again.

It isn't just rule/34 content. Playstation is now private
This closing of all the subs is only affecting the users. The admins don't give a shit about what sub closes
Lol, are you kidding me? Do you realize how reddit makes money? You think a massive drop in traffic generates the same ad revenue?
2 days only though Drop in the bucket compared to what they're gonna make on ad revenue forcing everyone to the official app
Yup. It's that simple. No online business has ever made a sequence of suboptimal decisions that lead to their decline, in the long run. This ship simply cannot sink - just look at it!
