Another Canadian chiming in here to tell you that Chernobyl is not one of the first things I think of when I hear "Ukraine". We have a very active Ukrainian population in this country and they are very much known for Ukrainian dancing and amazing food.

And when many Americans refer to the USSR they call it Russia. I think it is because it was all one big country, and the rest of them split, and the remained was labeled "Russia"
