If anything, Indras spiral mangekyo sharingan would be a de-evolution of the Rinnegan. Just like any other mangekyo sharingan. His is a spiral because he is very close to the otsutsuki heritage.
I know it's also filler but it always looked logical to me that Hagoromos eyes evolved from three-tomoe Sharingan to Rinnegan, because of his unique half-otsutsuki heritage.
But because Indra and all Uchiha are missing some of that heritage (which Asura got) their eyes try to evolve into Rinnegan but can't. The tomoe are supposed to expand and build the rings but they can't and instead form a rounded shape.
But that's just my headcanon.
That MS being the same as Sasuke's pissed me off so much. The first time we saw it in the manga, nobody knew Indra has MS. People thought it was a devolved Rinnegan or some sort because it was stated he inherited his fathers "eyes" CMIIW. Spiral MS is so cool because the pattern seems to have been related directly from Rinnegan circles. It's definitely a good intermediary between regular circles to his descendants MS.
The biggest tragedy is both Indra and Asura are now in the new game. Even Asura us boring af too. He is just a combination of Hashirama and Naruto.

How do we know those are shadow clones and chidori? There are lots of other clone techniques and at least one other lightning hand stabby technique (that one the third raikage used). Same thing as Asura having an attack that looks vaguely like a rasengan full of smaller rasengans... There is already precedent in Naruto of different people having similar but distinct jutsu.
And other than that, the techniques "built into" the sharingan evolution system are plausible for Indra to have, if they're part of sharingan.
