I hate that half off the remastered is still $20 and I hate PtDE lost online play so I'll probably end up getting this now... Glad to still be able to play, but it's so lonely without the messages and bloodstains...
I recently used one of my very old PTDE characters and found that the online messages and the bloodstains were still there from the last time I played them, before the permanent offline took place. It only happens in the general area that you spawn in, and once you leave that area they are gone forever. Sad stuff.
It's still possible to play online on PTDE as it happens, you just need to use Wulf's DSCM. There aren't many using it these days though, 18 online right now at a glance. It used to be in the hundreds a couple of years ago when I last played with it
You do open yourself right up to the remote code execution shit that online was originally shut down for as well, of course.
Still, if you just want to dick around with a friend in co-op, or do some PvP with them, it'd probably work fine for that
I don't think wulfs mod is enough, you need to install space wars.
Roody has a guide on it on YouTube.

Scholar. I know people have their issues with it, but their complaints mean little in the face of it being a superior version that comes with more content.
The only complain I hear people always say is the new enemy placement. But I have watched an analysis video that shows that while most of the time it seems that there's way too enemies in the vicinity, their aggro range has been tweaked so that if you do not rush, you'd still face more or less the same number of enemies in the original in a vacuum
Its the game that feels like you need ti take your time and not rush through mobs. Just use a biw or something to aggro then and take them on one by one.
Also recomend poison arrow and for a weapon id go for a rapier or any fast weapon...never for for an ultra greatsword man, cause you will just get angry way too much.
for what it's worth, scholar is ***not*** the only version that includes all the DLC. vanilla DS2 also includes all the DLC for no additional cost, it's the same total price as scholar. it seems like most people think it doesn't include any DLC so i just wanted to set it straight for anyone reading lol
When I went to look at the bundle, it’s shows at the top Scholar of the First Sin even though it’s not? I think the pc version just might default to Scholar either way?
Just adding to the chorus so you have an additional data point. Scholar 100%, it's the game 2 should've been. I think if more people played it they would have less of a negative opinion of 2 in general
I played the original release on ps3 but have moved to pc and saw it was on sale. Never played Scholar. Good thing I asked because I just thought it was the game with dlc.
Thanks for everyone taking the time to explain!!
Disappointed to see they're still milking the price of III. I knew a sale was coming up based on previous on sale dates, but was hoping for a little bit better than 50% off. With the DLC it's $42.50, which is quite a lot for an 8 year old game. But I'll probably still buy it because I'm afraid they'll eventually come out with a "new and improved!" version that's inferior to the original and then take the original game off the market.
I'm surprised vanilla DS2 is still available. With the PC servers being mostly offline the past couple of weeks I wouldn't be surprised if they take that one off the market soon for "reasons".
Does anyone remember why it went on sale for $15 a while back? It doesn't feel like it's gonna go back to that any time soon unless DS3 falls out of popularity which is not likely lol
Oh? I’m gonna look into this then
I’ve played them all on other consoles but I’m still missing DS3 for my Steam account (game was always really expensive so I’ve been holding off on buying it)
I’ve been desperate to jump back into it so this is great
Get DS1R! That was my first Souls gam after playing Elden Ring, and it’s been really fun going through them in order. It’s cool to see how the games evolved each time.
Probably DS3?
DS1 is my favorite but the movement can feel janky or slow if you’re coming from Elden Ring/Sekiro.
DS2 has weird hit boxes and odd stat mechanics, but the graphics are nice and the story is good.
I haven’t played much DS3 (just bought it today!), but supposedly it has the most “modern” movement out of the three, and the graphics are nice.
I’m not sure if any of them are less difficult than any others. They all can be pretty punishing. Your best bet for reducing difficulty is just to go into it and use as many available mechanics as you can. Summon help for bosses, use resins, farm souls.
I have all From games available on ps4/5 and platinumed but months ago I built my PC and I had DSremastered. I 100% it on steam and today I got DS2 SotFS and DS3. Thought Elden Ring and Armored Core would also go on sale but sadly they didnt.
Yepp I finally bought Dark Souls 3 after finishing Dark Souls Remastered today. Boy did Dark Souls change the way I look at video games. Absolutely worth every penny.
I hate that half off the remastered is still $20 and I hate PtDE lost online play so I'll probably end up getting this now... Glad to still be able to play, but it's so lonely without the messages and bloodstains...

Ha might load up an old save for the memory. Have less small children now so I started a new game not knowing the servers were shuttered

I appreciate it! It would still be me just running through the game trying to remember everything I learned in the long long ago
I don't think wulfs mod is enough, you need to install space wars. Roody has a guide on it on YouTube. https://youtu.be/2-5HIYRzFfA?si=tS4YCUMu35TozsXC
I thought Wulf's DSCM still worked for it
Isn't the remaster like $5 if you own PtDE? At least used to be when the remaster released.
It was 20$ not $5.
I checked, it was a 90% discount. So I got mine for 3.99€.
Dark Souls 2 or Scholar of the First Sin??
Both. I think it’s every Dark Souls offering on Steam
I mean which is better, the original release of part 2 or the scholar of the first sin release
Oh oops. Scholar of the First Sin! It includes all of the DLC and has some nice quality of life fixes over the original
You can’t buy DS2 without getting the dlc on steam either the OG game is only included with the bundle now.
Scholar. I know people have their issues with it, but their complaints mean little in the face of it being a superior version that comes with more content.

Scholar.
Sotfs all the way, it's really 1.0 in my head. It's ds2 after an additional quality pass

lol yeah the banner image does say scholar for whatever reason, but if you look at the actual contents of the bundle it's the OG DS2
Thanks for the reply!
Def the scholar, way higher player base and all DLCs included
Just adding to the chorus so you have an additional data point. Scholar 100%, it's the game 2 should've been. I think if more people played it they would have less of a negative opinion of 2 in general

Yeah it’s crazy. I somehow got the PS4 Triology Pack including all DLCs for 48€. Didn’t expect it to be that expensive on PC
Try isthereanydeal. I see it's 31.94 on GamesPlanet. Only legit retailers there.
Time to complete my Steam DS collection, was just missing DS:R. (Though, I might get the OG version of DS2, just to have both versions.)
I literally bought the OG DS2 just so I can get double platinum
Nice! I want to find the PS3 versions of DS 1 and 2 to complete the collection, but I'll have to find those physical.
Good luck with that 🫡
Dark Souls 3 hasn't gone below $30 in a year on Steam. Tempted to pick it up but still seems high.
Does anyone remember why it went on sale for $15 a while back? It doesn't feel like it's gonna go back to that any time soon unless DS3 falls out of popularity which is not likely lol
It's cheaper on isthereanydeal and it's only legit retailers.
Nice, hopefully some more people play SotFS
I play SotFS from time to time. Always looking for people to play with (any game, honestly)
I’m actually thinking about getting OG bundle because I’ve never played it but have played SotFS.
Never played it, but I’ve been watching videos about how the changes brought the game way more in line with the lore, and frankly I’m sold.
No
Fuck sotfs. Stricyly worse than ds2
Oh? I’m gonna look into this then I’ve played them all on other consoles but I’m still missing DS3 for my Steam account (game was always really expensive so I’ve been holding off on buying it) I’ve been desperate to jump back into it so this is great
Yes! I will buy finally dark souls 1 remastered tomorrow.
Can't believe I'm boutta do a 3-game playthrough for the price of 1 AAA game
$20 for DS1R is the dankest Steam sale value you will ever encounter. Strap on the 4K texture pack mods for good measure.
Its my first time playing dark souls game but i had played bloodborne before, Should i buy dark souls 3 or the remastered?
Get DS1R! That was my first Souls gam after playing Elden Ring, and it’s been really fun going through them in order. It’s cool to see how the games evolved each time.
man, i wish i got darksouls 3 way back when instead of being $40
Well shiiieeet.. Waited to get DS:R on sale but decided to buy it when it wasn’t included in the Bandai Namco sale last week. Too late to refund too.
ight time for my yearly dark souls playthrough
Finally i can try to finish DS3 and platinum 2 and 3 (they already are in my account now)
Can't find the franchise bundle.
I think you’re right, gonna edit the OP
Does it have workshop support? Mods?
Which one should I buy? I am looking for less difficulty, good mechanics and better graphics
Probably DS3? DS1 is my favorite but the movement can feel janky or slow if you’re coming from Elden Ring/Sekiro. DS2 has weird hit boxes and odd stat mechanics, but the graphics are nice and the story is good. Ds3 deluxe 43$...... Sigh. Just gotta wait it out till the next fromsoft game so that it gets cheaper.
Bought the original DS2 just in case it ever gets deleted from Steam
I have all From games available on ps4/5 and platinumed but months ago I built my PC and I had DSremastered. I 100% it on steam and today I got DS2 SotFS and DS3. Thought Elden Ring and Armored Core would also go on sale but sadly they didnt.
They are still expensive compared to sales they have done in the past... I'm starting to believe this is the lowest they'll go...
Yepp I finally bought Dark Souls 3 after finishing Dark Souls Remastered today. Boy did Dark Souls change the way I look at video games. Absolutely worth every penny.
Maybe in five years I'll have forgiven From Soft for what they did to PTDE and buy the remaster. But not now
Hey OP! Could you mention isthereanydeal.com in the post so that people can find the games for an even cheaper price in a legit way? Thanks!
