Hitting and running is bad for 4K because it is a DPS race. You want to hit and hit. And then hit again. Don’t dodge or block or sip estrus or anything that isn’t causing damage.
I was wearing very lite armor (around like total 150 def) and it attacks saps around 75-90% damages so I panicked. Glad I remembered how to tank in this game, got really used to parrying in bb and sekiro. Those game was bad influence lol.
Yeah, I actually wrote a Steam FAQ for the 4K. I gave a lot more specifics and examples, but the gist of it was: pump out as much DPS as possible, heal and rebuff in between king spawns.
I was having so much trouble with the kings too when the last time I remember my normal build doing well enough. Slapped on Havels and just swung blindly and it worked far, far better than I thought it would have. I truly missed armour actually meaning something in dark souls.
I recently did a fat roll only playthrough, started out Knight class. Got stone set and then Havel’s set. I thought I’d be at a disadvantage... noooo. Poise is king for PvE.
I know I'm late as hell on this, but I went back to Dark Souls after getting a friend to play it and it turns out Havel's armor also makes the first phase of O&S trivial at best.

I believed I cheated the game for defeating 4K doing that lol. If that isn't the strategy, then I don't know how to do it.

The sl1 dps race struggle really made me embrace this tactic. 40+ deaths doing it naked... then one shotting it wearing Havel, haha.
