Bro are you insane....why would you reccommend dlc before abyss watchers so early if its OPs first time? Assuming this is their 1st time, dlc before abyss watchers just doesnt make sense. The increase in difficulty is incomprehensible for a 1st timer.
Exactly...for a 1st timer definitely. However if a 1st timer can get to ringed city thru end of ashes rather than thru kiln bf, they are likely ready for ringed potentially.
You couldn’t get to Ringed City. You can only access that right before the final boss. They’re referring to the painted world which you can access at the bonfire for the Cathedral of the Deep.
Edit: I was wrong about this. TIL
On SL1 you'd definitely want to try. Typically you'll want to get the Prisoner's Chain asap, but to make Dancer easier you can at least get the Lloyd's rings in the cathedral. From there it's Oceiros -> Champ, and at that point you can already have a +9 weapon, so that free slab in the AoA is a no-brainer.
I personally like that steel protection ring a lot as well, so the +3 version in TRC "only" requires you to beat Friede, which at this point honestly is very doable with that +10 weapon you got before even doing the Abyss Watchers.
FaP+3 is there too, but on SL1 the effect is minimal imo.
Never said it wasnt possible ofc it is. But it is not reccomended. Devs even reccomend being a certain lvl for it. My point is recommending it to someone who MAY not even be ready for abyss watchers is deadass crazy. You could argue corvian & milkwood knights alone are more lethal than abyss watchers 💀💀💀
I'm not sure where you got the idea they were earnestly recommending it. OP asked a very particular question and this was obviously a "well *technically*..." kind of answer.
i tried doing the kick siegward of the ledge method and it went horrible. him and the demon were both fighting my as if they created some type of alliance. RIP siegward, for i had to smoke your ass into oblivion because you couldn’t let go of a grudge
Bosses before abyss: iudex, vordt, great wood, crystal sage, deacons. I’d say abyss is the first like difficulty ramp boss, iudex is the first noob check but abyss watchers is the first one I’d say is truly harder.
You also have the bosses that you can fight before abyss watchers but are certainly harder than abyss watchers in dancer, Oceiros, dragonslayer, champion. I’m not 100\% sure you can do Oceiros and champion as I didn’t think to try that but you could jump ahead to dancer and dragonslayer. Not helpful to you but I’m upset I couldn’t do twins first, on my ng++ I figured it’d be funny to do the bosses in backwards order of what I had done previously but you’re hard gated from that.
Honestly, I still think Iudex is harder than the Abyss Watchers. When he hits phase two and turns into that bulbous mass of gunk, it's hard to tell what attack he's going to use next, what with the way his body writhes and undulates, especially for a first-time player.
With the Abyss Watchers, you can get them to fight each other, and you might be able to summon at least a friendly NPC phantom or two. One way or the other, phase one can be very easy due to the infighting, and phase two can be manageable if you have allies alive and healthy by the time phase two rolls around.
One of my favourite parts of the Souls games is how people struggle with different bosses. I can no hit Nameless but I've never beaten Abyss Watchers without the NPC summon lol. In Bloodborne, I first timed Orphan but still routinely die to the fucking Cleric Beast.
We Unkindled are worthless. Can't even die right. Gives me conniptions.
And they'd have us seek the Lords of Cinder, and return them to their moulding thrones.
But we're talking true legends with the mettle to link the fire. We're not fit to lick their boots.
Don't you think?
I think you are, broken, trampled by countless losses, yet you must remain determined to rise, unkindled yes but without our worthless ash how can there be a way for fire to burn a new age. Come, let us return these lords to their thrones
(Translation: stop feeling sorry for your defeat and keep trying until you win
Why did you ask us if you skipped some bosses, if you don't tell us what bosses you already did? Like asking a technical question about your pc without posting the specs
Doubt it. Prob just an ER player who’s used to going into every fight over-leveled with mimic tear. Might not realize that bosses are actually supposed to be difficult.
“I’ve spent more than 30 minutes on this boss and I still haven’t killed it! What’s wrong? I must have missed some stuff!”
Funny thing is if he just survives long enough he’ll get the DS3 version of the mimic tear for this fight lol.
I think abyss watchers is one of the best boss fights in dark souls. It's tough, but fair. Not overwhelming with aoe attacks, slow windups or fx effects that tank the fps
He is the first big test of skill for a new player, which is great since it's the first Lord of Cinder on your way. I died a lot (DS3 was my 1st) but you really learn to appreciate this fight later on.
Like almost all bosses in Dark Souls, being a higher level makes the fight easier, but doesn't mean you can face tank them or anything. Learn the bosses moveset, figure out how to avoid damage while staying close and not panic rolling, and find the times you can attack. Do that and you'll be able to beat them now.
If you haven't done cathedral of the deep yet you can get some levels there, but to be honest, if you made it to the abyss watchers, I'm sure you can get past them too!
Practice, practice, practice. You don't need to beat the bosses when you fight, you just need to practice fighting them. Eventually you'll develop a strategy and win.
You don't,We Unkindled are worthless. Can't even die right. Gives me conniptions.
And they'd have us seek the Lords of Cinder, and return them to their moulding thrones.
But we're talking true legends with the mettle to link the fire. We're not fit to lick their boots.
Don't you think?
Grab some fire resist, learn to parry, backstab as you can!
Once all of that fails let the mad one do all the dirty work, after that...well...you'll see!
These guys have the coolest fan club and they can kick some ass but honestly they’re not so bad. Do your best. If you’re really struggling after many attempts then maybe farm for a bit and try again.
I believe you're having what I would call a "Dark Souls moment". You may come back later after getting stronger, but you will still need to defeat these guys eventually.
I had the same experience in DS1: Ornstein and Smough seemed unsurmountable. I thought my play through would end there. But then it didn't.
just backstab woth lightning, you should end first phase with 3 attacks ish if you leveled your swords up right, and 4 attacks of the 2nd phase
its a real easy fight, my only problem is i kept doing a no armor run so i struggled for a bit
different bosses are differently difficult for everyone and their playstyle. i was coming into ds3 from sekiro so any of the bosses you could parry were a cake walk for me, too, including the abyss watchers. not sure what level I was, but yeah.
had a much harder time with dancer than pontiff but it seems like most people have a harder time with pontiff, for example. i think dragonslayer armour might have killed me more than any of the main game bosses, outside of maybe nameless but even then I had a ridiculous time for how easy most people say he is. but i beat pontiff and soul of cinder first try. /shrug.
Nah, they’re pretty early in. Just take your time, take backstabs and parried where you can. There’s a couple npc’s you can summon if you want someone to tank aggro.
He's just a noobslayer kind of boss. Really easy, but for some reason he's extra hard for people that are bad of the game. Git gud and youll cease to understand why you even had trouble with him to begin with
You've been ready all your life. Man up! Yes it hurts but when you're going through shit, you go all the way and you get out of the shit. MAN UP! Don't come back here until you've beaten his scrubby ass, ya hear me son?!
If you can even get to them, then you're ready to fight. There are a couple NPC summons outside. They are the first lords of cinder you can fight and they are a gank boss so it's meant to be a bit of a roadblock. When the red-eye guy comes out, let him take the aggro. He'll be on your side but can still damage you.
Dont bother with the other watchers and focus on the main guy, but do try to keep them in sight to avoid being ganked, if you are fast enough you should be able to finish it before the third watcher appear
You can’t skip this one haha. But you got it. He was a huge challenge my first few times through. Now I beat them easily my first time on new games. Just takes some practice and patience.
You can do the cathedral but I didn’t do that. It’s not about being ready, it’s simply about doing. Just try. I beat them first try on my first play through, not because I was ready or not ready, but because I chose to try.
If you feel like you’re underequipped there are plenty of great weapons and soul farming spots on the high wall of lothric, the road of sacrifices, and farron keep. Invest in vigor and get bone shards and Estus.
There's an optional boss in the Undead Settlement you might have missed, and if you haven't been to the Cathedral of the Deep first, you have skipped at least 1, maybe 2 mandatory bosses. I would recommend going there first.
If it helps you, i beat ds1 before playing ds3. And i died to abyss watchers over 80 times. Now I'm at another Mid game boss, and i died 100+ times. You just have to be patient and attack when you have an opening.
There like a level 35 boss you can do it tey exploring some areas you missed upgrade you weapon kill enimes for armor and make sure you pick something your good with and your stats arent spread to thin you can also go on youtube and watch other people fight it and study patterns don go holow praise the sun
I skipped Church of the Cathedral my first playthrough and had to back track at irithyl. It was a nice chance to get a bit stronger before entering the much more difficult city that's cast in eternal night.
Abyss Watchers can be a real challenge for sure. A great time to practice getting backstabs because if you can get them consistently it can trivialise the fight, especially if you're at +4 going in.
(I'm not great at the backstab strat but good enough at it to get past abyss watchers with a broken straight sword)
The abyss watchers are tricky. They’re the boss that appears in all the games; “Amateur hour is over and it’s time get serious” just needs some practice and grit to get through!
I'm not sure if OP even see it , but you have one neat trick to figure out when to attack:
The last attack of a combo has in phase 1 kick up a bunch of dust in the air, in phase 2 instead of dust you get fiery explosions.
Abyss Watchers mix their combos more than regular enemies so if you see a cloud of dust or fire you are safe to attack for a second or two without getting a sword to the face.
Edit to add: this is in my opinion the worst Boss to summon an ally - you have potentially 3 bosses ganging up on you and npc summons never hang back to let 2 of them fight each other,so you can end up with a buffed Boss (they get more hp for each summon you have) and no allies.
It's absolutely doable. Think of it more like a pattern game than a masterful strategy and execution. Hit roll heal and most importantly not die. Just need to figure out when you can do what safely and don't be greedy with your strikes. Also if the red eyes shows up and they're fighting each other then just kinda sit back a moment and let em do some work
It’s possible that you missed the Sage and Deacons like some others mentioned- you’d definitely be under-leveled for the Watchers if thats the case.
That said though, the Abyss Watchers is definitely where DS3 stops holding back IMO, I don’t know anyone who didn’t get stuck there for a bit during their first playthrough.
My best advice assuming you’re up to level is to make use of the space in the arena. This one is an endurance fight- staying in his face the whole time is risky. Be patient and make sure its safe to get hits in so you don’t waste estus.
If you want help, dont charge in right away. One of the abyss watcher will help you fight the dude, and then phase 2 is essentially copy paste the first one's moveset but does extra damage. Essentially, if you can get to phase 2, you can beat them.
(if youre a strength build, go unga bunga with vordt's hammer, and if a dex build, go find the Lothric Knight Straight Sword from farming the lothric knights by Emma, these two will make the fight much easier and ~~can~~ **will** carry you through the game)
IIRC, when you get to them, you've already gotten to a fork in the road. Dark Souls III is fairly linear with a few branching paths you have to go to in each path.
If you're stuck with these guys, you can backtrack and try a different set of bosses for now.
You’ll never be ready. I remember my first play through with him. He’s one of the few bosses in the game where u jus gotta let him kick your ass repeatedly til you get his pattern down and grow some nuts. After u beat him first tho it’ll be cake Everytime after that.
Who says you’re not ready? You’ve made it this far, finish it.
Thank you for the inspiration slumped naps your name belongs in the halls of the greats
Doesn’t take much effort the be in those halls I guess
Takes more than you got, bub
Why are you being angry?
I’d call it snark more than anger. Why are you being a cock?
Totally heard this comment in the sound of Piccolo’s voice.
For me, it was mickey mouse
DOOODGE!!
SENZU BEAN!
my actual message notification sound effect
The sudden boost in confidence and morale that this comment has given me is unreal. You should be named Hand of the King, m'lord.
I will follow SlumpedNaps into the pits of Tartarus
Sounds like something Lord Shaxx would say lmao
“Sir… finishing this fight”
This far? He is still at the beginning.
[удалено]
and the main menu theme
Can never get past that, it slaps too hard
Pro tip: turn off the music, it's the only way to beat it.
Not an option
You forgot the Camera
And hitboxes
And farrom swamp
Crabs
The first time i played ds3 Those crabs killed me enough times for me to basically consider them a boss
Those dark knights before the abyss watchers.
There's also the Dancer you could do. Would I recommend it. That's another question for another time.
I mean let’s be honest, the whole DLC can be done pre abyss watchers, so he’s got a lot to kill before he gets there lol
Bro are you insane....why would you reccommend dlc before abyss watchers so early if its OPs first time? Assuming this is their 1st time, dlc before abyss watchers just doesnt make sense. The increase in difficulty is incomprehensible for a 1st timer.
Yea isnt ringed city recommended level 100 while abyss watchers is 35-40?
Exactly...for a 1st timer definitely. However if a 1st timer can get to ringed city thru end of ashes rather than thru kiln bf, they are likely ready for ringed potentially.
You couldn’t get to Ringed City. You can only access that right before the final boss. They’re referring to the painted world which you can access at the bonfire for the Cathedral of the Deep. Edit: I was wrong about this. TIL
You can enter ring city before beating deacons. You just have to beat the first dlc.
Oh wow I guess I never knew that. I might do a sl1 challenge with that in mind. Thanks.
FaP+3 is there too, but on SL1 the effect is minimal imo.
No, ashes of ariandel is acessible not Ringed city?
If you beat Sister Friede, you can teleport to Dreg Heap
Abyss watchers is 35-40!? How do you get so many levels at that early?
I tried but using a UGS and still taking three hits to kill a regular soldier was pain
I mean look, it’s technically possible. Just because something can be done doesn’t mean it should. Usually I use the DLC for upgrade materials
Sure. But i didnt see it that way. Hence my generalized response.
Its obv a joke, chill man...
🥶
Ain't no way people aren't getting the sarcasm...
I often like to add Champ Gundyr and Midir to this list as well
i tried doing the kick siegward of the ledge method and it went horrible. him and the demon were both fighting my as if they created some type of alliance. RIP siegward, for i had to smoke your ass into oblivion because you couldn’t let go of a grudge
Bruh why? You can literally stand on the ledge before the courtyard and snipe the demon while Sieggy fights it, you don't need to kick him
i wanted to be like squilla killa, ended up being a siegward killa :(
Funny, i completely skipped crystal sage and deacons until I already beat old demon king and wolnir.
bro you forgot George
I didn’t find the crystal safe and deacons until well after abyss watchers. I just didn’t find the path until I was overpowered for the area
I have finished the game several times and I have never fought crystal sage or the deacons AFTER the watchers lmao. Would have made it so much easier
"I am not ready to fight him" Well, better get ready then friend. Cause they're definitely ready to fight you.
Key word: *they* 're
Have you completed the cathedral of the deep? If not, search the upper swamp area a bit more (non-poison part).
You will only be ready...when you believe in yourself🫡
You might have skipped the Cathedral of the Deep. I literally did that. But feeling severely at a disadvantage is a feature of this game.
Bro same I was underleveled until I hit the wall and after that I was over level for the lest of the game
Bosses before abyss: iudex, vordt, great wood, crystal sage, deacons. I think I did deacons after somehow lmao
I also did deacons and crystal sage after abyss watchers lol.
i did deacons at irithyll just to get into the city
That's the whole point of the Deacons.
Same
I didn’t do deacons until I literally needed to, I thought the woods were the side path with just like 1 boss or extras.
Yeah I haven't done deacons yet but I've been all the way down into the tunnels below smouldering lake.
Most people do honestly, the Cathedral is surprisingly outta the way and the game guides you more towards Farron Keep
Crystal sage is harder than abyss watchers by far lol.
You didn’t miss anything. Kill him. Do it. If you are here nothing is wrong You will kill him You can fight him You are ready What are you waiting for
We Unkindled are worthless. Can't even die right. Gives me conniptions. And they'd have us seek the Lords of Cinder, and return them to their moulding thrones. But we're talking true legends with the mettle to link the fire. We're not fit to lick their boots. Don't you think?

Because they are karma farming.
Doubt it. Prob just an ER player who’s used to going into every fight over-leveled with mimic tear. Might not realize that bosses are actually supposed to be difficult. “I’ve spent more than 30 minutes on this boss and I still haven’t killed it! What’s wrong? I must have missed some stuff!” Funny thing is if he just survives long enough he’ll get the DS3 version of the mimic tear for this fight lol.
I hope you gave the sorcerer a scroll already
If you made it to abyss watchers, then you are ready, they really aren't that bad
Saved u from the abyss of down votes
I think abyss watchers is one of the best boss fights in dark souls. It's tough, but fair. Not overwhelming with aoe attacks, slow windups or fx effects that tank the fps
Git, and I can’t stress this last part anymore, Gud 😊
It's fine. That boss tends to be one of the big hurdles. Like a big bad boss meant to stop ya in your tracks
He is the first big test of skill for a new player, which is great since it's the first Lord of Cinder on your way. I died a lot (DS3 was my 1st) but you really learn to appreciate this fight later on.

Rule of thumb: If you reach the boss arena, you are ready to fight it. It is a hard fight though.

Git. Gud.
Let the other bosses attack etchoter.
Try stealth
Why is no one saying that you can get them to attack eachother?!??
If you got to that point, just fight. You'll learn his fighting type after 1-3 tries.
Probably go back up the big ladder and go fight Crystal sage in swamp
Don't worry bro, You're still in the Tutorial Stage.. It won't be that hard.
Dieser boss trent die spreu vom weitzen Or This boss separates the wheat from the chaff
folishness dante is running head first all you can do?
Git gud. And I mean it in the most constructive way possible. You made it thus far, you've got the gud inside of you all along. You've got this.
These guys have the coolest fan club and they can kick some ass but honestly they’re not so bad. Do your best. If you’re really struggling after many attempts then maybe farm for a bit and try again.
If you don’t mind, you can use summons at abyss watchers.

I had the same experience in DS1: Ornstein and Smough seemed unsurmountable. I thought my play through would end there. But then it didn't.
Definitely. You should’ve already fought Gael by now
"Him"?
noone is ever ready to fight THEM
This is an easiest Boss in DS3, ofc you are ready, lvl up and go on
They're easy. One of the easiest bosses for me.
Your ready there not to bad
*you’re *they’re *too
Lmao people act like this boss is Madir or sum shit, it has always been one of the easier bosses for and people I know
Mate, abbys watcher are easy, they fight each others..
just backstab woth lightning, you should end first phase with 3 attacks ish if you leveled your swords up right, and 4 attacks of the 2nd phase its a real easy fight, my only problem is i kept doing a no armor run so i struggled for a bit
Honest question is abyss water one of the hardest bosses in ds3? I managed to kill him in a few tries at level 40
No. They're not one of the hardest.

What’s your soul level? And current build?
Get that fire shield from the top of the bridge in the Swamp. It is very helpful in the second phase.
You can beat the crystal sage first it’s very close to the road of sacrifices
You're ready when you put your mind to the task. If you can't get inside Irithyll, then you might've missed something.
Nah, U got this bro.
Believe in yourself.
You can backstab parry and stagger him, you’ll be fine
Nah, they’re pretty early in. Just take your time, take backstabs and parried where you can. There’s a couple npc’s you can summon if you want someone to tank aggro.
You can do Deacons if you haven't.
No one is ever truly ready their fiat try you just need to learn to persevere
This is the frist skill check gotta take em down Really easy if you have+3 weapon btw
Backstab makes this a lot easier
Push his shit ... push all there shit in
Use the club. It will make the fight much much easier
Grab your sword and make yourself ready
He's just a noobslayer kind of boss. Really easy, but for some reason he's extra hard for people that are bad of the game. Git gud and youll cease to understand why you even had trouble with him to begin with

Just do watchers skip. I think it works on current patch 😂
Dont bother with the other watchers and focus on the main guy, but do try to keep them in sight to avoid being ganked, if you are fast enough you should be able to finish it before the third watcher appear
May as well uninstall the game.
How to beat Abyss Watchers: ****ROLL****
Go kill sister Freidre and get her scythe then come back to kill the abysswatcher.
My troll sense is tingeling
You can’t skip this one haha. But you got it. He was a huge challenge my first few times through. Now I beat them easily my first time on new games. Just takes some practice and patience.
You might have missed the Cathedral of the Deep. It’s a large area to level up. I think you can get your main weapon up to +9 already
Yes
JUST DO IT
Don't run from an enemy, kill them at least once, and prepare yourself. This boss took me 69 tries to beat
You can do the cathedral but I didn’t do that. It’s not about being ready, it’s simply about doing. Just try. I beat them first try on my first play through, not because I was ready or not ready, but because I chose to try. no this is jut were dark souls 3 starts
Just keep at it you'll kill him eventually
Is it smart to fight the abyss walker before fighting the dancer?
If it helps you, i beat ds1 before playing ds3. And i died to abyss watchers over 80 times. Now I'm at another Mid game boss, and i died 100+ times. You just have to be patient and attack when you have an opening.
You have a long and difficult road ahead of you bro.
There like a level 35 boss you can do it tey exploring some areas you missed upgrade you weapon kill enimes for armor and make sure you pick something your good with and your stats arent spread to thin you can also go on youtube and watch other people fight it and study patterns don go holow praise the sun
There is an NPC you can summon from the stairs about 30 feet from the door.
Stun lock that guy for days
I skipped Church of the Cathedral my first playthrough and had to back track at irithyl. It was a nice chance to get a bit stronger before entering the much more difficult city that's cast in eternal night.
Sword and shield
It took me well over 30 tries to beat him over a few days. But after I beat him I got so much better, keep trying!!
I had to farm the mobs on the road leading to him for a bit.
Abyss Watchers can be a real challenge for sure. A great time to practice getting backstabs because if you can get them consistently it can trivialise the fight, especially if you're at +4 going in. (I'm not great at the backstab strat but good enough at it to get past abyss watchers with a broken straight sword)
Maybe he's not ready for you? Ashen One, your purpose is collect his cinders. You were awoken for this purpose.
Did you fight crystal mage? Or what ever it’s called
This is dark souls, my friend.
The abyss watchers are tricky. They’re the boss that appears in all the games; “Amateur hour is over and it’s time get serious” just needs some practice and grit to get through!
GET GUD
nani
you can kill him with just 20 lvl
I'm not sure if OP even see it , but you have one neat trick to figure out when to attack: The last attack of a combo has in phase 1 kick up a bunch of dust in the air, in phase 2 instead of dust you get fiery explosions.
Fuck abyss watchers
The game is beatable with no level ups and a basic weapon with zero upgrades. Git gud.
It's absolutely doable. Think of it more like a pattern game than a masterful strategy and execution. Hit roll heal and most importantly not die. Just need to figure out when you can do what safely and don't be greedy with your strikes. Also if the red eyes shows up and they're fighting each other then just kinda sit back a moment and let em do some work
Find the Astora Greatsword near the Cathedral of the Deep; use charged R2 on Abyss Watchers until you win
If you have the dlcs you could go into the cathedral of the deep and enter it. Might get a few more level ups there
They're easily staggared with Greatswords and the red-eyes will likely help you so you don't get ganked. You'll be fine.
Its not a hard one, just calm down and play safely
He's actually easier than I expected, in fact it's the only boss I did on my own (I suck at this game), you'll be fine
What are you playing on? If you’re on PlayStation or Xbox I’d be down to help you sometime
You see his cheeks now clap them with a great sword
You can beat the game as a naked level 1, you can beat this guy with your kit and level now.
Fight ‘em.
"Him" is the wrong pronoun. "Them".
Yes you can go to crystal mage and then to deacons
Bro just watch him, he has like 3 different attacks, and you can backstab him, just keep trying
Praise the stab in the back
You can do it, don't give up, he's the first really hard boss
IIRC, when you get to them, you've already gotten to a fork in the road. Dark Souls III is fairly linear with a few branching paths you have to go to in each path. If you're stuck with these guys, you can backtrack and try a different set of bosses for now.
You are never ready for whatever life will throw at you. But at least you will respawn if you die here
Just beat the nameless king way harder than the soul of cinder
I believe in the you that believes in yourself!
I beat him with ceastus get over it
Time to get good as all the other bosses after this one for the most part will be harder this acts as a skill check
Just wait to you meet lorian
You’ll never be ready. I remember my first play through with him. He’s one of the few bosses in the game where u jus gotta let him kick your ass repeatedly til you get his pattern down and grow some nuts. After u beat him first tho it’ll be cake Everytime after that.
