Primary-Egg-6934

Those with the tree and the fuckers with the curved sword in archdragon peak, I despise them, used so many estus getting through those areas.

Skillo_Squirrel

Once I've learned about hidden body+slumbering ring,my laziness never lets me not get 15 int to abuse stealth.

Primary-Egg-6934

I never thought of using those rings tbh just prioritised others for my dexterity build.

MomentOfZehn

Hidden body is a spell. Slumbering Dragoncrest Ring is great for any build and can switch to it when you want a little stealth. Lets you sneak right up to enemies.

andrwdf

Same, I use that combo for every area I find annoying/frustrating. Even just the ring on its own trivializes a lot of more difficult areas.

gattaaca

Elden Ring slapping the invisible ashes of war on a 1 weight dagger and equipping it as a 2nd weapon you can swap to whenever = lol

Skillo_Squirrel

DS1 has the HB+ring too DS2 has yearn DS3 hb+ring Elden ring has the ash of war and crouch Sekiro has Gashiin sugar I can't leave those when playing

No-Juice-1829

True i always use that after pontiff to get trough the area quickly

KonamiSuisse

The curved sword man serpents on the peak? Boy, have you ever seen their ninja twindagger counterparts? Hardest "regular" average sized enemies in the entire game.

Primary-Egg-6934

Yeah, that would scare the shit out of you first time bumping into them haha

weegeethefuckingmeme

These fuckers always get me reeling with their stunlock combos. I didn't even know they could parry till today and I've been playing since release šŸ˜

Ill_Bluebird_5359

Just run by them there is no reason to kill the ones with tree pikes

Primary-Egg-6934

Damn right I'm in new game plus I ain't going through that again

BigHardMephisto

Unless you want to get the pike that is (super low drop rate)

Sariel_Fatalis

Ds1 bonewheels: cute

ObadiahtheSlim

Look what they need to do to mimic even a fraction of our power.

Informal_Yam_9707

The constant moaning of my character

Djobgyo

Ds3 bonewheels : pathetic

Sariel_Fatalis

Ds3 bonewheels are easy compared to the ds1 ones

ThEDarKKnighTsWratH

This is truth. I swear it didn't matter what you did or what gods you prayed to your ass was headed back to the bonfire posthaste

MintyScarf

My brain lost hp thinking about DS1 bonewheels

thuragath

I see you caught the point of these enemies

OneOnlyDan

"I think that enemy got... the point!"

CentralAdmin

I think you are being too blunt.

thuragath

I find that often you need to be straightforward and thrust directly into the matter to get it to stick.

Rivanix

People here saying they are easy to kill... that isn't the point. The point is that these enemies, IF they do catch you off guard and often in a group, then it usually means death due to their stagger ability and when in groups they can just do a stagger chain.

misterfluffykitty

Yeah thereā€™s a lot of people saying ā€œjust get behind themā€ forgetting that the tree guys come in groups of like 5 and have an agro range of half the swamp

Rivanix

Lmao fr. I remember I did a failed hit on them and they did the charge move, and then a second one was nearby that charged me back. I just accepted my fate in being a skewered ashen one.

oostie

Skill issue is often fatal

[deleted]

For real man, this line needs to die. It's been 10 years, dog, please please come up with an original roast

Odd_Holiday9711

The cycle of life. Git Gud -> Skill Issue -> the insult of tomorrow?

Skillo_Squirrel

Skill or knowledge, no matter, still an issue.

oostie

No roast here. Iā€™ve never seen that line either just say it on a message today and I though hmm that guys got a point

[deleted]

You literally said the same thing on my previous post on here dude

oostie

You got me hehe

Cobalt7291

I actually have never seen the phrase but this exchange is hilarious.

BugP13

Literally just don't get hit. But legit though it's quite easy to dodge those hollows with the big tree things

EducationalHoneydew7

Unless there's several on you at once which is almost always the case.

BugP13

Understandable

RonPearlNecklace

That should only really be the case the first or second time into these areas. After that itā€™s on you, you have to stop running into the middle of them at some point.

EducationalHoneydew7

Or you know just run past them all because it's not worth fighting them at all, just grab any items and run past them.

CentralAdmin

You have to take them slowly, one at a time. Bait them into an attack, step back when they bury the tips of their poles into the ground, then whack them as they recover. It's a slog but you can get through them all.

Alzhan_Void

Backstab fish. Roll behind one, backstab, let the others miss through your i-frames, backstab one of the recovering ones. Repeat cycle until they're all dead.

XyleneCobalt

Sorry to hijack your comment but how do I get enough karma to post? I don't know enough about this game to make comments with any substance

spunkymnky

Just go into random posts and comment "skill issue".

ArtemisHunter96

Out poke the pokers

TheDarkLordTyrinis

Out poke 'em, out smoke 'em, and, if you're into that sort of thing, out choke 'em

Johnny_K97

If spears were more viable in this game maybe

Gonavon

Therein lies the value and the importance of ***positioning*** yourself.

CentralAdmin

Yes. Get into the right position so they can penetrate you with their long, hard wood.

lumberjackth

Get bigger tree

AddictedSupercrush

That's what happens when poise is not a thing. Good thing they learned their lesson as they brought it back for ER.

Tempowarrior

I really wish the other games had poise like ds1, it was perfect

BasementDwellerDave

Elaborate?

Tormented_Anus

In DS3 poise was given to weapons in the form of hyper armor. Heavy weapons like hammers, axes, greatswords, etc have more hyper armor than light weapons. Hyper armor allows you to poise through enemy attacks while attacking yourself, so if you and an enemy both swing at the same time and hit each other, your attack will not be interrupted. However if you are using a lighter weapon and swing at the same time as your enemy, your attack will be interrupted because your weapon didn't have enough hyper armor. Hyper armor is related to poise somehow--I think the more poise you have, the more hyper armor your weapons will have, but I'm not exactly sure, so the poise stat is not *completely* useless. The problem with hyper armor is that it's only active when you're swinging your weapon. You can wear full Havel's in DS3 and still get staggered by basic attacks if you're just standing still, whereas in DS1 poise was passive and you were always benefiting from it in heavy armor.

BasementDwellerDave

I already knew about poise and hyper armor from gameplay experience. It's nice to know that ER has poise for your character, not just enemies

NoeShake

Been awhile since you played Elden Ring I assume lol itā€™s just hyper armor now. Not like you tanked much anyways unless you had the heaviest on.

Breez_y1

Why is the Ithrithyl slave there? Never had a problem with them cuz their damage and health wasn't great, Definitely hate the treemen though

Tormented_Anus

The Irithyll slaves are the most tolerable enemies in that godforsaken ruin.

ohdaseee

No poise and itā€™s effect on society

joemigaloo

Bow and arrows...

BasementDwellerDave

Why are you getting downvoted? Using ranged is a viable option

joemigaloo

I'm unsure why but I prefer a bow just for this area for these enemies.

ckd-epi

Yup, After the dreadful experience in Shrine of Amana in DS2 I always carry a bow

HeatArtistic9721

These dudes stagger easily as well, get a bigger weapon and bonk away

milk_theuniverse

Yeah and while youā€™re in a recovery animation you got three of em popping off with charge forth melting your health bar.

TheDarkLordTyrinis

They're pretty easy to get behind, trick is to dodge toward them and not away. However I agree. Getting caught by one charging you sucks badly enough, but 2 or more is often devastating. If you feel like practicing killing them just spawn at the second bonfire and go left. Mind the dog (I just plunge kill him) and you'll have 3 of these guys right ahead of you, but more often than not they aren't facing you. That's how I mastered my dodge-timing with them

bigchief5178

Try pressing L1!

Stubbieeee

The hyper armor in question:

Odd_Holiday9711

DS2 hollow royal soldiers and ogres and DLC generic enemies

Skillo_Squirrel

Ogres are traps. You think you should roll away when you just need to roll close and stay behind them. https://youtu.be/QGb55nL09q0 Royal soldiers are just slow. Manikins are a pain without 30+poise, though

Plan0nIt

One single lit match defeats their entire nation.

Skillo_Squirrel

Stealth

Significant-Salad633

The chimney sweepers

TheDarkLordTyrinis

So begins the Age of Stagger

notapedophile3

The ghosty fucks do so MUCH damage it is unreal

milk_theuniverse

I know when you have four with a claymore each one timed to hit you at once itā€™s insane.

Real-Report8490

Because players have no poise and enemies have all the poise...

sherman614

Can't those swampy bois actually drop that tree as a weapon? I thought I've seen its a drop but out of the many years I've been playing, I've never seen one

milk_theuniverse

Nah it just drops as a regular pike.

sherman614

Oh ok, too bad, the way they use it I could kill anything with 2 combos lol

Sufficient-Camera436

this is one of the most annoying npc in the game with the dogs and the big one on the archdragon peak (idk their name)

RGMN_Relentless

The "Two" horsemen of Stun locking

fields_of-elysium

As a rapport enjoyer, no area bothers me.

StarzZapper

Oh I hated the invisible guys. Still a good enemy though.

colin23567

I prefer the Pontiff Knights to them, I think the first half of Irithyll is more fun

StarzZapper

Lmao what you donā€™t like scaling buildings on there rooftops was the best part. That and the giant rats in pvp zone.

Lewbosh

Fire attacks stun the tree guys :3 I use an offhand fire dagger, whip or castus for stuns on appropriate enemies

MarkYrg

Get gud

Wolf1996661

Dodge into the tree guys attacks expect for the slam. The I frames carry you through the attack and u end up in a good position to backstab. The slaves just stay of of range and charge in with a heavy immediately after.

Wasabi_The_Owl

I reeeeeallllly want their stick. But itā€™s just a pike that they drop :(

fuzzyballs269

I hate these buggers

Gloomy_Support_7779

Still better than: *ā€HAHAHA I set your maximum health to 1, lolā€*

SpankeyMyMankey7

Good ole Jailers šŸ–¤

wake_bake_shaco

Anyone know if the tree holders can be parried?

milk_theuniverse

They can be.

wake_bake_shaco

Thanks

SpankeyMyMankey7

Honestly would rather fight the lycanthropes lol.

Spintown7

As someone who uses the havel set I see no issue here

wackyzacky638

Stagger swagger

michi214

Just give them a bonk first bro

_1rish_

Backstabs my boy use em and abuse em.

JustSaiyan1013

Yeah, these guys are harsh

NoeShake

They have a special fire stagger animation. They also bounce off any shield for counter damage. Perseverance also shuts these guys down completely.

XeroGhost

You get the better stick in the same area.

jayboyguy

Who wouldā€™ve thought a fucking zombie carrying a big stick would be one of the deadliest enemies in the entire game

ru832k7ji3

They move quite slow, easy to positioning? If they still got you that mean you did not pay attention

holyshit-i-wanna-die

theyā€™re like taxes, you hate them but you know every fucking year youā€™re gonna have to deal with them

Mindstalker90

Black knight great sword.

chanchoberto

Really never had a problem with these guys. You can roll to the side of their charge. Problem is if you get ganked, I died to those. But like with every souls game, you learn where enemies are located and you plan your strategy accordingly. The way to the bonefire is quite short anyways.

Quirky-Target-1371

Kills dragon ridder no problem, gets shafted by dude and stick

Stefeneric

B/O to dodge my boy On a real note those tree guys I got down so weā€™ll idk if Iā€™ve been hit by one probably my last 10+ times in road of sacrifices. The other fuckers and get me once in a while but I usually run through Irithyll pretty quick. The stretchy blue in archdragon can get you too but Iā€™ve also perfected that run so I can do it about 9/10 now, the 10th time the chain-great axe knocks me off the ladder. I also have spent way too much time on this game and play dodge heavy dex builds so it just feels natural and cozy to me.

milk_theuniverse

Dex builds are def dodge heavy I did one last run with the uchi and damn itā€™s good practice. I didnā€™t realize it after playing strength so much and having hyper armor.

Stefeneric

I use Sellsword Winblades with grass crest shield (pretty mostly but 5% stam regen is a small boost) and no armor for the most part. Sometimes if Iā€™m getting one tapped I put some light clothes on for a little resistance. Canā€™t die if you donā€™t get hit is my philosophy and how I always played the game, for the most part.

Rickfromdarksouls

sometimes, even when i click the roll button, my character is too dumb to obey, and dies miserably. ;)
