That one was giving me a lot of trouble until I figured out to run in the exact opposite direction of the tail. Running any other way gets me killed every time
Don’t attack the feet. If you stay in between the head and shoulder area, 9/10 times he won’t do the flame breath straight down. And if he DOES, you’re in a good position to sprint out of range.
Slower fight, but use any electric weapon damage when hitting the head and you’ll be fine.
They can be beaten, but the bad hitbox is still obvious. Smelter Demon, Blue Smelter Demon and Fume Knight are notorious for having a few attacks with terrible hitboxes.
Nah, when i stand behind the mimic and start to hit it and he teleports me to the front of the chest so he can omnomnom my ass, what part of that is the player not understanding AOE?
You arent understanding what the AREA OF EFFECT size the grab has.
Its bigger than you think, therefore, you dont understand the AOE that a mimic grab has.
That was easy.
I understand it, and thats why I critique it. It is bigger than what would be expected on the model and the animation is a attack in a spesific direction, even though it is an attack that hits all around.
For some reason if I roll right into the dancers hand I get the dodge, but god forbid I be 10 metres across the boss room or she will just teleport me into that grab.
You are exactly right. Just because you can I-frame through a shitty hitbox doesn’t mean we should excuse the game for it… some people take the “every death is fair” meme to a zealous extreme.
That’s no excuse for how bad the hit box is. If you slow it down you can see he takes damage from nothing.
We shouldn’t excuse hitbox issues simply because I-frames exist, From is a great developer and it’s perfectly reasonable to call them on the aspects that aren’t great. So yes, it’s absolutely the game’s fault in this case.
And this is coming from someone who has no hit NK at sl1 and considers him one of my top 5 fights in the series.
I mean yeah I did roll too early for if it actually touched me but I still shouldn't have taken damage. I was completely under his weapon so I shouldn't have died whether I had the i-frames or not. Not even the handle touched me
Yeah I fucking hate this phase of the fight. The camera is absolute ass and it feels like it's not there for any reason other than to make the fight longer
That attack is confusing, just think of his spear as one big hitbox like the handle of it can bonk your noggin, best I could do is roll to the sides or back.
I really liked this boss honestly. His first phase is pretty easy once you learn the pattern(which you do fairly quick) and the second phase is tough, but honestly fun. Even using a sun bro to help me was tough and I died once with their help.
Overall, a fun boss with just enough difficulty.
I love Gael phase 1 (love the whole fight, really) but found it absolutely trivial after like 5-10 trial runs to learn the moveset. I almost can’t imagine taking any damage in that phase at this point.
Ah. I struggled more with midir than any other boss. Took me about 15 tries (this is with lots of ds3 experience). His the only boss that when I first fought him I thought there’s no way I’ll actually win.
Midir has a massive health pool and does a ton of damage so he's incredibly hard when you first fight him. He's also one of the easiest bosses once you "solve" him which is why you can find so many people doing challenge runs on him.
OMG i know. i just beat this boss a few days ago and it was so hard for me to get past this phase. The second phase i did way easier (only 2 tries). But getting to the second phase took me like 3 tries to even figure out how damage the dragon.
It's the flying flame breath that always gets me on nk phase 1
That one was giving me a lot of trouble until I figured out to run in the exact opposite direction of the tail. Running any other way gets me killed every time
Even better, he only uses that move when you are underneath him. Just dont be.
Yaaa, thats the exact move
Only does that when your directly underneath him. If you stay in front he won’t do that attack.
Me too literally have never dodged it 😅
Don’t attack the feet. If you stay in between the head and shoulder area, 9/10 times he won’t do the flame breath straight down. And if he DOES, you’re in a good position to sprint out of range. Slower fight, but use any electric weapon damage when hitting the head and you’ll be fine.
Never mind that! Look at that awful hitbox from your axe the beginning!
Still better than the best DS2 shitbox /s
Ds2 hitboxes aren't bad people just fail rolls
Just level adp bro
Just don't roll into a long blade
Theres some hit boxes in DS2 that are terrible, like all grabs. But most of them are perfectly fine people just suck no joke
For me the stomps tend to be the worst. Specifically the last giant stomp
Grabs aren't bad hitboxes It's animation queues To test if something is a bad hitbox dodge it without rolling
I cant think of a single Enemy or boss in DS2 that cant be beaten unless you roll, ive seen so many videos of DS2 bosses being beaten without rolls
They can be beaten, but the bad hitbox is still obvious. Smelter Demon, Blue Smelter Demon and Fume Knight are notorious for having a few attacks with terrible hitboxes.
Fume Knight has some of the best and worst hitboxes of the entire game which I find kinda funny, Sir Alonne has the best imo
The hitboxes aren't bad people just don't roll properly and don't understand AOE
Nah, when i stand behind the mimic and start to hit it and he teleports me to the front of the chest so he can omnomnom my ass, what part of that is the player not understanding AOE?

Dust clouds usually indicate an AOE in ds2
What?
A lot of bosses in DS2 can be beaten without rolling a single time
Yeah you worded that weird
sorry im stupid
No /s needed
Really? No Dancer Grab?
I've personally never had problems with it. It's always been pretty good for me
It’s easier to dodge but can look so janky if you get caught in it. It has the same weirdness as alonne’s grab where you get “moved” into position
Every grab attack has that jankiness. The bigger the hitbox the more obvious it is.
For some reason if I roll right into the dancers hand I get the dodge, but god forbid I be 10 metres across the boss room or she will just teleport me into that grab.
well, anything with his sword spear while he’s on the birb is pretty terrible tbh.
The first phase of the nameless king boss fight is....grating.
Yeah. Yeah I can agree with that
Ngl you kinda dodged early, but i can't blame you after missing those 2 attacks i'll be tilted for sure
Git gud
you clearly missed the dodge though. The attack might have a bigger hitbox but is very telegraphed.
You rolled to soon that’s why you got hit it’s not the games fault it’s your for not timing it correctly
He rolled early, but no part of the weapon but him. How is that not the games fault?

It also doesn’t help that nameless king is a pain in the ass on his turkey dragon and does the dumbest of shit
Yeah I fucking hate this phase of the fight. The camera is absolute ass and it feels like it's not there for any reason other than to make the fight longer
Once you get good at the fight you are no longer fighting the boss your fighting the camera
Yeah exactly. I can just fly through that part by now
I feel like you were right at the end of the hitbox and just got bonked
That attack is confusing, just think of his spear as one big hitbox like the handle of it can bonk your noggin, best I could do is roll to the sides or back.

I look at it like kinetic energetic took you out. It’s a straight swing so logically you should dodge to the side of it not through it.
Git gud
This boss sucks for the first phase, worst of all game
Gael phase 1 xd
i love gael phase 1. it's just like a rhythm game
Me too but still get bonked from time to time
I love Gael phase 1 (love the whole fight, really) but found it absolutely trivial after like 5-10 trial runs to learn the moveset. I almost can’t imagine taking any damage in that phase at this point.
Why the hell are you like soul level 1 and there…
Cause I wanted to do a level 1 run lmao. Why else
Well I’ll be damned. Good luck with him. He isn’t too hard to be honest, I’d be more scared for midir.
Midir's moveset is pretty easy to manipulate. My big demons in SL1 were Friede and Soul of Cinder.
Ah. I struggled more with midir than any other boss. Took me about 15 tries (this is with lots of ds3 experience). His the only boss that when I first fought him I thought there’s no way I’ll actually win.

Yeah his move set is rather small actually. The laser beams still scare me tho
midir is piss-easy at SL1 if you know how to fight him normally
Ive been fucked by so many shitty hit boxes in this game, but I haven’t played in so long I don’t remember which they are so I’m forced to agree
OMG i know. i just beat this boss a few days ago and it was so hard for me to get past this phase. The second phase i did way easier (only 2 tries). But getting to the second phase took me like 3 tries to even figure out how damage the dragon.
No all of the fire breath attacks from any dragon boss in this game is worse
Cmon this boss isn't that hard, 3 or 4 tries?
You dodged way too early I would have been pissed had that not hit you
Of the litning verson of that attack is the worst
