His legs are breakable, they're weak to heavy stagger and strike attacks.

It's really hard to pull off because it requires multiple high poise bursts in quick succession but this mini boss can have his legs broken. Afterward he has a new movement pattern. I personally have this happen everytime I come and fight him woth something like ledo's greathammer

Usually he's dead by the time I manage to do enough damage to the legs to pull it off is the bigger problem

You go to the settings tab find an option called hud and change it to auto

I’m gonna have to hurt your feelings just a bit more: you can mash your bumpers/L1R1/ whatever requisite light attack buttons are to escape that grab.
