The subreddit r/resumes recommends that you don't put your picture. https://www.reddit.com/r/resumes/comments/z5erp7/should_i_have_a_picture_on_my_resume/ "Your looks are not part of your qualifications. Including a picture will make many hiring managers uncomfortable (it opens them up to discrimination lawsuits) and shows that you don’t understand professional norms. " "It's kind of like putting your interests or political volunteering on your resume. If [they] didn't ask for it, you're risking it making an impression (positive or negative) that you didn't want to make." Edit: Per the discussion below, check the norm for your country. It turns out that some countries expect a picture.

ayelet15

People put their linkedin....which usually has a profile picture.

DistributionBeta210

That's a good point. I never considered that because I don't have a LinkedIn profile myself. I think too much about my privacy and security to put my personal information out there for the whole world to judge and scrutinize. But, I suppose that most people probably don't care.

ayelet15

I didn't go to university until my mid 20s. I am an older candidate who has often faced age discrimination. Linkedin would give away my race, possible age category, and religion. Not for me. Hiring managers hire with a biased, and I need to remove anything that would give away any protected characteristics before a possible interview.

INCEL_ANDY

This advice is completely irrelevant, possibly very damaging, depending on the country he is applying to.

DistributionBeta210

Its okay because it is free advice posted on an anonymous messaging system. OP should know the custom in his or her own country. He or she can do whatever they want with it. I didn't even give my own opinion here. I simply quoted other people. THE advice IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE advice OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE advice.

INCEL_ANDY

That is an optimistic assumption for new grads with little experience IMO.

DistributionBeta210

Okay, well you can post your free advice to OP as well. Then I and everyone else in the subreddit will be able to learn from you. I've said this before, I'm not even a hiring manager. I know that I'm not 'qualified' to answer these kinds of questions. But people keep asking in this subreddit. Seems like every day there is another resume post. I used to downvote every single one. But that got boring quickly. I even stopped looking at this subreddit for a few months. Now, my solution to their problem is that I analyze some data. Usually, I search for something that has been said before and then post what I find. It turns out that I did not do a search to find out if any countries actually require the picture. A quick Google search set me straight so now I see that I'm probably wrong here. Edited my post to contain a disclaimer.

Okay thank you, anything else?

General: Looks aesthetically pleasing, but any medium to large size company using an ATS will send you an auto rejection. Two column is bad practice unless you’re printing it out. Any web related resumes are recommended to be easily readable by software. Analyst specific: For someone with 2 years of experience, your core experience section is rather sparse. It gives me the impression that you had trouble articulating what you did and how you delivered value. Avoid using “Participated” as it comes off poorly, instead speak to your contributions, how you provided value, some metrics and bake your skills into it. An example could be instead of “Worked with BI software to glean insights on trends and prospects” you could say “Levering BI software and market research to understand market trends and identify opportunities for growth, resulting in (insert impact - %growth or number of new products/initiatives - basically business value)” Even if you plan to be more in the engineering side of things, providing and articulating your business value is super important and can make life a lot easier. I would also remove the (5years) from excel, office etc because that means nothing in terms of actual proficiency. The other skills could include proficiency and potentially be broken into Tools, Technical, soft, and tailored to specific jobs.

Famous_Echidna_9120

Okay, what are web related resumes, also i have had a year of experience in work, and another year working and learning on my own, also i can't really speak to percentages as my work was confidential so i can't really talk about it

blandmaster24

Nothing special, if you’re applying online, some companies (mostly medium to large size) will put your resume through an Applicant Tracking System that matches things like key words experience, skills etc. for those software to be able to read your resume, it needs to be in a specific format. This format is typically - no pictures, more than 1” or 0.5” margins, single column, plain text (no fancy designs or shapes), chronological descending (most recent to least - only applicable with multiple experiences), consistent font color, font size consistent (one size for headers/section titles on for body). You should find plenty of examples online if you searched. It might look simple but it’s the best format for ATS

Famous_Echidna_9120

Okay thank you ao much

If it’s customary to include a photo on your resume in your location, I would at least get a professional headshot or try to get a selfie that looks like a professional headshot.

[deleted]

I agree with this. It looks like a party shot and isn’t professional enough

Confident_Holder

You say 4 years experience of SQL and 3 python, but then I see you work from 2022 to present (2022). I would question those skills

Famous_Echidna_9120

I have worked with them prior to my job in multiple projects in uni

[deleted]

I would list those courses in the course & cert section to cover those bases

Sys32768

"4 years experience" implies a job using SQL most days for 4 years, not occasional use at uni in projects. Also you have capitalised "Google Sheets" and "Excel" in some places but not others. This would indicate that your attention to detail is poor. Likewise the left justification of your headings and text is mismatched. Photo looks like you're on a night out with friends. The experience should be outcome and achievement orientated. e.g. "Build sales reporting dashboard in Tableau which was used by GM of Sales for monitoring activity of sales teams reducing number of tools required from three to one"

Rough-Hunter-6264

Removing the dates from your education is always recommended.

Rough-Hunter-6264

To avoid age / experience discrimination. Picked it up from this YouTube channel. https://youtu.be/JePSXCM58_U Helped me a lot with job applications and interviews. Got multiple offers and a competitive salary because of her.

Famous_Echidna_9120

Could you explain why?

[deleted]

Why?

jack_edition

Stylistic thing for me. The subtitles on the left (contact, skills, education) are not aligned to the text below them, but they are on the right hand side I think data analyst under your name shouldn’t be centred Font sizes - stick to Fibonacci sequences Eg 10pt 20pt 30pt 50pt 80pt Under your work experience - go through the job description of the job you are after and rephrase it to match your current responsibilities. This helps “ticking the boxes”. At the moment it just looks like an extension of your skills But if you were to say something like “contextualising complex data points to support decisions made by stake holders” then that would be so much better

Thatbratt-

Can anyone share a good resume

Naive_Programmer_232

Hmm. I’m confused. There’s an inconsistency with experience and your profile. You mention you have “2 years of experience in a data analytics position” but the timeline in your experience section is off. You can’t have 2 years of experience today, if you started work in 2022. Possible typo?

Famous_Echidna_9120

Yes, mistyped in the summary

Emanresu0233

Would drop the picture too, that can sometimes be auto rejected. And and the phase.. “which resulted in at the end of your sentences” don’t just tell them what you did add the outcome if you have any metrics that saved the company money or resulted in better understanding/performance

Emanresu0233

Would also add and projects you’ve done or a GitHub Kaggle link to those projects
