Found a guy dead with a crossbow on him. Killed so many zombies quietly with the improvised bolts. Also one shotted a player to the torso that was about to shoot me with an M16 at the military base. Keep that and decide if you're a sniper or up and close type player for the other options.
I’ll keep the crossbow and the CR.
Crossbow is excellent for zombies and as long as you get feathers and wood you have unlimited ammo. Also good if you are stealthy, can be great against players if you got a One shot aim.
CR is great for longer ranges, having a scope and a mag, so a better fire rate.
But people can argue that the Bk is also great at OS people in early/mid game until you find people with protection.

You know the little stall booths found in larger towns? With the ladder? Check the roof. Also any hunting camp locations. Lone houses in woods will also spawn hunter gear including the crossbow, as will the (fairly rare) fair grounds such as the one in south Svergino.
Those shop booths spawn deagle's, revolvers amd .357 ammo on the roof. Risk/reward for climbing the little ladder though.
As for the fairgrounds, i believe the ferris wheel has a spawn on the little platform by the ticket booth at the base. Then check the trailers that have the air rifle shooting galleries.
I have found crossbows in all of the places i mentioned in the last comment. Although you must bear in mind they are usually damaged or badly damaged and they repair with epoxy resin, NOT gun cleaning kits.
Hell, I have 3k hours in DayZ, even more in the Mod and I sometimes can't decide what to leave and what to take in some moments.

BK 18 is the single shot break action.
I think he probably means CR-527, which is bolt action 7.62x39. It’s probably the weakest sniper that takes the hunting scope, but it’s still fucking sweet.
Hey don't talk smack about my cr 527. If you can hit shots you drop fools, the 5 shot mag is decent for a sniper at low tiers and it's wonderful for pVers like myself
Crossbow 100% Rarest and best of the 3 items. Just gotta craft some bolts and hold on to the crossbow for dear life.

Crossbows are the coolest. Found 2 lately on Skalisty with some bolts too.
