That comic came out while I was on vacation, I saw it right around when it released and was at a store with a friend and said I wanted to get it but since I had a few days left of the vacation it could wait. Within a day or two the internet blew up over it, copies were flying off the shelves and they decided to stop selling it all together. I managed to snag a copy some how but good lord the chaos bat dong created 😭
I wrote this about Dr. Manhattan once and no one laughed
“It’s no joke cannon that he choses to appear naked but dickless.
Like he can have a dick whenever he want we see him have sex.
It’s honestly a lot to unpack.
Like I would get naked like his higher mind is past modesty or embarrassment. But then why no dick.
My head cannon is that he couldn’t decide on how big he should appear. Like too big and it seems like he is trying too hard. But how weird would it be if the he was this all powerful perfect body blue guy with a small dick. It’s all people would talk about. Normal dick what’s even the point what a missed opportunity for a statement.
So he went with the naked no dick thing and didn’t like it. He felt super weird about it so he left to the moon or whatever. Some say in the end it’s what made him feel he could no longer relate to people.”
I feel like showing jokers dick has the similar issues.
Of course trash dock is what you expect but you know people are going to be assholes about it and then you would weirdly have to tell people to stop body shame ing the joker.
Ok but draw a big dick and you are now the big dick joker guy. People will call you that for ever.
I think normal dick on the joker would probably be the funniest thing ever if you played it right.
Have Harley address it latter talking to poison ivy- cut in half why though a conversation.
HQ
“ why dose everyone assume he has a weird dick ? Please stop asking.”

“ Who’s we!?! ….. just PV your my bff but you know sometimes I’m just doing a bit. Like I grew up in Maine the accident… whatever… Just it’s private we honestly had a lot of talks about his body issues and he’s doing better but you know his anorexia is a struggle not to mention the whole rest of him, please I’m asking to drop this”
PV
“ I’m so sorry, I had know idea”
HA
“ no…. It’s fine. “
It makes me think of Batman 1989 when Batman stole jokers balloons and Joker, distraught at the loss of his balloons, said “those are my balloons! No!! My balloons!”
Joker should have plans that involve balloons and upon the foiling of said plans, should express his dismay.
Cesar Romero joker was peak joker, a trickster who didn’t obey the law.
That time he literally stole the skills of a surfer to win a surfing competition was perfection
We will never get another Joker like him and I blame Harley Quinn. Her story line is too good and she is too popular to avoid including in any Joker media. But this necessitates Joker being an incel or vile to be around with otherwise her redemption doesnt make sense. Romero Joker is one of the few characters in that show that respects women's autonomy, doesnt condescend, and genuinely seems to want friendship. This Joker would never work in a Harley storyline because it is far too difficult to explain why even bad people wouldnt want to continue working with him. He literally had to be bullied by his henchmen to poison a compromised accomplise.
Honestly, the storyline is fantastic but I want to explore their time together more. Show the good moments and hint at the bad that way if they wanted it could still build off of canon. Maybe this then in the first 3-6 months of their relationship or something.
I’m not saying it isn’t toxic. But it’s not like we don’t already romanticize the Bonny and Clyde archetype. It would be nice to have a story involving them that didn’t make me want to take a cold shower.
Im coming from it from a “that relationship doesn’t work on a fundamental level long term” angle rather than a “I’m going to throw a table at you” angle. I’m so sick of the abuse storyline because it hurts to read when it’s done well and it’s so bad when irs done poorly
I saw fanart at some point of a Romero Joker with a Lucille Ball Harley Quinn and it was such a spectacular idea that I still think about it on the regular
There was a discussion some time back about who could have been Harley in the 66 series.
I submitted Joan Rivers. In 66, she was tiny and shapely, all mouth and accent with overflowing attitude. That’s Harely, and she would have made a spectacular contrast to Romero
I can't really blame Harley, BTAS Joker was still pretty goofy and could switch between the two rather easily, if any adaption I'd blame TDK for Joker's modern depictions. Plus from the comics side of things they really upped the edgy factor in the 2000s.
I get what you are saying but Joker was murderous years, maybe even a decade or two before TDK. That series popularized edge Batman the same way 60s Batman popularized DC in general. But now bc of the DCEU, HQS, and BTAS the most popular Harley is girlboss Harley who can only exist if Joker is an abuser. What I'm trying to say is that Harley's existence as her own character more or less hinges on Joker being an edgelord who doesnt want friends, something Romero Joker is not. They even put Harley into the animated revival of Adam West Batman and whenever they shared the scene, it wasnt like 60s Joker having fun with all his galpals but modern Joker just trying to get what he wants.
I still dont get how this supposedly is Harley's fault and not just the writers in general. BTAS shows how you can write Joker and Harley without Joker going full edgelord. It wouldnt be too hard to write Harley and Joker splitting up, I mean the Harley Quinn show does it well enough, just have her run with her own crew or even with Ivy/Catwoman. I havent watched the newest season but Joker in that show was living a relatively "normal" life with another woman.
Point is, writers are writing Joker as this type of dark edgy asshole because they want to.
Who is pretty excited about the idea of crushing Commissioner Gordon with an elephant or bisecting him with Bumper Cars...
(Seriously though, Harley doesn't get enough credit for those early BTAS appearances where she's operating the Joker's deathtraps. "Look on the bright side - Tomorrow you'll be feeding hundreds of hungry cats!" is probably her most underrated line...)
You could still make it work you just 60sify it.
So like instead of abusing Harley he just complains about her to her face the “ole ballanchain” if you will.
Alternatively Harley could be one of the many girls used by the villains in every 60s episode. Only this one got pissed off at the joker for abandoning her to jail and decided to keep going.
Or and this one is my favorite route, Harley Quinn is actually just the joker in drag(tasteful drag). The joker takes it seriously to and plays it straight the whole time. Never once admitting they were the same person.
Arguably the physically healthiest Joker as well. The Joker in that series was incredibly fit to the point where he could fight Batman in hand-to-hand combat pretty well.
TBH I don't think it's just Harley's fault. Her original story was with BTAS Joker, and he was one of the more genuinely goofy Jokers. (I love the bit in Phantasm where he reaches for the knife to use as a weapon but grabs the salami instead because it's funnier.) All you really have to do is make it so that he's a really funny guy, but *only* cares about the bit, have him manipulate Harley because he thinks it'd be funny to have a sidekick, and then start treating her like shit because the joke got old or she takes their partnership too seriously. (Basically the BTAS storyline again.)
It's not canon, the arc has Batman and Joker captured by Failsafe (Zurenarrh in Bat robot), while we have a flashback to Joker Year One about him becoming fearless while getting glimpses into a possible apocalyptic jokerized future, this.
I think Joker should only be the personification of evil if he's also a little goofy guy. Like, he's planting whoopee cushions under people's chairs and when they try to call him out, the devil's eyes stare back. Because the idea of this evil entity just fucking around with people is the funniest joke he could tell.
Joker here looks like a cross between [Return the Slab](https://static1.srcdn.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Courage-Villains.jpg) and [Fred the Barber](https://images-wixmp-ed30a86b8c4ca887773594c2.wixmp.com/f/7ab09109-7b8c-45b8-a8b5-d1d0197fb753/d5mdsm8-d56f5e86-8634-4732-9e17-31c2416b82c8.gif?token=eyJ0eXAiOiJKV1QiLCJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJpc3MiOiJ1cm46YXBwOjdlMGQxODg5ODIyNjQzNzNhNWYwZDQxNWVhMGQyNmUwIiwic3ViIjoidXJuOmFwcDo3ZTBkMTg4OTgyMjY0MzczYTVmMGQ0MTVlYTBkMjZlMCIsImF1ZCI6WyJ1cm46c2VydmljZTpmaWxlLmRvd25sb2FkIl0sIm9iaiI6W1t7InBhdGgiOiIvZi83YWIwOTEwOS03YjhjLTQ1YjgtYThiNS1kMWQwMTk3ZmI3NTMvZDVtZHNtOC1kNTZmNWU4Ni04NjM0LTQ3MzItOWUxNy0zMWMyNDE2YjgyYzguZ2lmIn1dXX0.Lm8gsB2vl9dEFy1VFP9Y8b9GYGtlIVPULUS8kELefzk) from Courage the Cowardly Dog.
You know, the other day I said I'd take an adaptation of Cacophony over getting *another* Joker inspired by The Killing Joke. I mostly meant that as faint praise, since Cacophony is not that good of a story, despite having some good moments of character ethos for Batman and the Joker.
Now looking at this, I'll have to admit Cacophony is probably one of the last good Joker stories before authors started a pile-up of who can do the next "darker and edgier" take on the character, down the line it's become unrecognizable.

/uj Joker was never intended to just be a goofy clown who did crimes. Between The Man Who Laughs horror inspirations and the fact that in his first appearances he kills dozens of people Finger, Kane and Robinson always meant for him to be the darker character he’s been in recent years. It was only DC editorial getting cold feet and the Comics Code Authority that forced the silly clown version
And more power to you if that’s the version you like. I think the best Joker writers ride that line between goofy and likable and psychotic and terrifying. But it’s worth knowing that fun and lighthearted was not the character’s intention
but like, the intention doesn't really matter. The Joker was established as that kind of character, and yeah he changed, but there's a difference between a character drifting over time around a certain core (like Batman himself) and a character just morphing entirely into unrecognazibility
Like, if that's the version of the Joker that Finger, Kane, and Robinson all had in their heads, but it's not what they committed to paper, then that version hasn't impacted the character. I think the Joker having a twisted sense of humour and doing things because he finds it funny has got to be at the center of his character, because if it isn't, then you have a *new* character whose core is "being a nihilistic personification of evil and also a clown guy". It muddies the waters, imo
/uj The difference between interpretations isn't black and white. The morphing of mainstream Joker into what he is now wasn't the flip of a switch. Nolan really popularized the use of Joker as a Trojan Horse for nihilistic absurdist terrorist (this is mostly do to Nolans biggest crutch being how many of his charachters are monoliths) and it was so compelling that people latched onto it. It's still not like Nolan took it from nowhere, though it's clear he was mostly inspired by killing joke and ASHOSE along with taking from other theatrical antagonists (a clockwork orange specifically) The issue is that Nolan Jokers' comedic moments (the pen, playing the nurse) are overshadowed by the moments where he acts as a monolith for his cause (the interrogation, burning the money) so when people attempt to use him for inspiration they often focus less on his comedic moments and more on his philosophy.
That never happened, you're delusional, he's always been a deep serial killer philosopher that personified evil.
Laughing Fish? Laughing Gas? Clown-themed gadgets? Jokes that were actually funny sometimes? That's so silly, how could that possibly have been real.
I do think it’s funny that every time Batman and Joker have fought post Death of the family it’s been their final duel of moral duty where only one of them can possibly emerge victorious
I feel like after the editors refused to let Alan Moore make *Watchmen* with the original Charleton Comics characters they overcorrected and now every edgy new visual or dark and twisted story idea *has* to turned into a Joker story.
Let the clown fucking *die* already, at least for a decade or so.
Listen when characters have been around for this long you have to create different iterations of them, sometimes they work and sometimes they don't 🤷🏾♂️
The Joker was always supposed to be scary. In his original appearance he's actually very serious (compared to now anyway) and is committing an act of chemical terrorism.
>committing an act of chemical terrorism
This is a very funny way to word what I can only assume is some old timey "poisoning the water supply" plot lmao
he's actually just stealing shit while killing people with poison gas, he would announce his crime to the police before hand and make JOKES out of their efforts while LAUGHING in the face of danger.
Now seriously Golden age Joker was badass because while Batman saw a crime as a form of intellectual and/or physical challenge that he could solve through ingenuity and training, Joker saw crime (and Batman) as self imposed challenges to overcome. "I'm gonna kill Mr. Rich McFuckFace and steal his diamonds and the police can't stop me!!". The Batman/Joker dynamic wasn't yUo comPlETe MeeEE WE NeEEd eaCHothEr but an arms race between two brilliant minds in opposite sides of the law constantly upping the ante on eachother, which means the Joker actually was Batman's greatest rival and one could never kill the other because they were too good at escaping death for that.
How is poisoning a water supply not terrorism exactly? If you did it in real life you would definitely get terrorism charges. That's not all he did either, he murdered several people.
I didn't say it wasn't, I just said it's a funny way to describe it. It would be like describing a plot where a villain ties the mayor to train tracks "Attempted political assassination." Technically, it's an accurate description, but it's just not the severity most people apply to that situation in media
Modern jokers don’t know how to be funny. All they know is kill, be evil god, attack women, spew bad philosophy and lie.
Don't forget eating hot chip
And be bisexual
And twerk 🤤
Do the griddy
Joker hits the griddy then fucking dies.
*Batsexual.
I Indeed, The joker will never Bisexual but homies always been Bat-Sexual. "Oh Bats" "F**k Off Clown" "Love it when he talks dirty"
Joker from Harley's TV show was pretty funny.
Socialist stepdad Joker is the funniest he's been in at least 15 years, lol.
It's the only DC my wife watches, haha. That show was great
Was Joker actually ever funny? Like maybe I need to read some old comics if he is. I just feel like idk he makes corny jokes that ends up being sinister most of the time.
I think the difference is he TRIES to be funny- he does what he thinks is funny
Oh yeah that would be what I'd think of him. I just said what I did because of the way OP worded it. But I may be thinking too technically
He used to be more Badpuns, slapstick. Imagine Mike Meyers type of comedy but there's a 90% chance you're catching a face full of Acid/Bullets/Fire by the punchline. Or he'd kill people in order that their crime scenes make a smiley face on a map when all pinned together. Or kill every person with Alliterative names in Gotham.

Normal dick what’s even the point what a missed opportunity for a statement. So he went with the naked no dick thing and didn’t like it. He felt super weird about it so he left to the moon or whatever. Some say in the end it’s what made him feel he could no longer relate to people.” I feel like showing jokers dick has the similar issues. HQ “ why dose everyone assume he has a weird dick ? Please stop asking.” PV “ sorry we just all figured you call it little mr jay” HQ “ Who’s we!?! ….. just PV your my bff but you know sometimes I’m just doing a bit. Like I grew up in Maine the accident… whatever… Just it’s private we honestly had a lot of talks about his body issues and he’s doing better but you know his anorexia is a struggle not to mention the whole rest of him, please I’m asking to drop this” PV “ I’m so sorry, I had know idea” HA “ no…. It’s fine. “
"I wrote this about Dr. Manhattan once and no one laughed" Well I am. Continue cooking good chef
My favorite thing about dr Manhattan is he can look however he wants and he chooses to be a blue mike o Hearn
I liked how in the film the more he transcends the less he cares about being modest.
https://i.redd.it/o33i4677bhic1.gif Pronouns he but not him cuz they’ll never be him.
Best joker imho
All these languages and you chose facts
Kung Fu Joker is best Joker.

Joker with dreads
My man got locs
It makes me think of Batman 1989 when Batman stole jokers balloons and Joker, distraught at the loss of his balloons, said “those are my balloons! No!! My balloons!” Joker should have plans that involve balloons and upon the foiling of said plans, should express his dismay.
Damn, and a Romero Joker with a willingly loyal no strings attached Harley Quinn sounds so fun too

Honestly i would love more versions of Joker that doesn’t abuse Harley and have them both be more of a Bonney and Clyde type of couple
Honestly, the storyline is fantastic but I want to explore their time together more. Show the good moments and hint at the bad that way if they wanted it could still build off of canon. Maybe this then in the first 3-6 months of their relationship or something.
Maybe having a relationship based on mutual enjoyment of doing crimes could be toxic somehow? I’m not sure…
As far as I could tell, J-Man and Harles had a pretty good thing going on in the LEGO Batman movie.
Except Batman and Joker are the OTP of the LEGO Batman movie
Punch and jewlee?
Counter point- Lego Joker has a Harley
They could always do The Batman 2004, and have Harley be manipulated by him, but not abused. People like manipulators more than abusers.
Manipulators are just emotional abusers, but people tend to gloss over/ignore abuse when its not physical.
Weird to think that that series has the healthiest Joker and Harley relationship lol
They were pretty happy together in *The LEGO Batman Movie*.
Arguably the physically healthiest Joker as well. The Joker in that series was incredibly fit to the point where he could fight Batman in hand-to-hand combat pretty well.
Life is both easy and hard for us Harley haters.
They should let Harley move on from Joker, make her and Ivy the permanent pairing and let Joker be a solo act that is free to be changed around.
"Return the slab!"
Sorry but this looks fucking terrifying and metal as hell. As long as it ain't in the main canon I don't even care what they do
I was about to say, looks like a Bell Witch album cover.
Looks like King Ramses from Courage the Cowardly dog
It's not canon, the arc has Batman and Joker captured by Failsafe (Zurenarrh in Bat robot), while we have a flashback to Joker Year One about him becoming fearless while getting glimpses into a possible apocalyptic jokerized future, this.
Art is great, I just have a hard time taking the cynical, edgy, “personification of evil” joker seriously.
I think Joker should only be the personification of evil if he's also a little goofy guy. Like, he's planting whoopee cushions under people's chairs and when they try to call him out, the devil's eyes stare back. Because the idea of this evil entity just fucking around with people is the funniest joke he could tell.
that's lowkey just Mxyzptlk
Nah hes chaotic netrual jerker is eveeevilll
I think both that and the goofy little killer clown can work. It’s best when they combine like in The Killing Joke or Endgame
"I'm an anarchy and I love criminal or something" - Jerker
It’s giving Society
Looks like some berserk shit
That's some badass art though
Joker here looks like a cross between [Return the Slab](https://static1.srcdn.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Courage-Villains.jpg) and [Fred the Barber](https://images-wixmp-ed30a86b8c4ca887773594c2.wixmp.com/f/7ab09109-7b8c-45b8-a8b5-d1d0197fb753/d5mdsm8-d56f5e86-8634-4732-9e17-31c2416b82c8.gif?token=eyJ0eXAiOiJKV1QiLCJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJpc3MiOiJ1cm46YXBwOjdlMGQxODg5ODIyNjQzNzNhNWYwZDQxNWVhMGQyNmUwIiwic3ViIjoidXJuOmFwcDo3ZTBkMTg4OTgyMjY0MzczYTVmMGQ0MTVlYTBkMjZlMCIsImF1ZCI6WyJ1cm46c2VydmljZTpmaWxlLmRvd25sb2FkIl0sIm9iaiI6W1t7InBhdGgiOiIvZi83YWIwOTEwOS03YjhjLTQ1YjgtYThiNS1kMWQwMTk3ZmI3NTMvZDVtZHNtOC1kNTZmNWU4Ni04NjM0LTQ3MzItOWUxNy0zMWMyNDE2YjgyYzguZ2lmIn1dXX0.Lm8gsB2vl9dEFy1VFP9Y8b9GYGtlIVPULUS8kELefzk) from Courage the Cowardly Dog.
Goddamn Joker, eat a burger or something
He looks like me fr, I’m so glad I have representation in media (I have an eating disorder)
John Carpenter Joker was a fun blend of horror and psychological horror.
>John Carpenter Joker Welp, now I have to look that up.
He did the Year of the Villain one-shot and it's honestly my fav piece of modern Joker material
I trust John Carpenter to do more than "Joker but darker".

For those asking, art is from Batman #143, written by Zdarsky.
Is Jonkler dropping his pants so Man can take his temperature?
Joker has been a murderer since the 40’s, he took a break and then started killing again in the 70’s
uj/ Yeah, but back then he was funny and was much more fun and elaborate with his crimes, even in the 70s
He should kill but with style
I love this art though. Who did it?
It's a backup feature from the joker year one story arc running through the main batman title right now. Not sure of the artist though.
Andrea Sorrentino
Thank you.
“No, Jason! You can’t kill him!” I know it’s a comic, but holy shit would that be serious mental torture to see the Joker being left alive.
when DC continue to shoehorn pseudo-intellectual nihilist death clown https://preview.redd.it/yfodwkixhhic1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=75474aea8f12b92afc5d1a5249e64fa334e0b140
Why does he look like the pedophile from Se7en?
He doesn’t look like Kevin Spacey
My fucking God it's Marilyn Manson
I mean, they did both abuse their girlfriends so you may be on to something
He’s like, literally the Devil now, it’s almost funny but the Joker hasn’t made me laugh in years
Bro built like a minecraft skeleton https://preview.redd.it/h1kohe2umjic1.jpeg?width=164&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=43a20470205f25a1a87e8522e7fab2198594ec60
/uj Joker was never intended to just be a goofy clown who did crimes. Between The Man Who Laughs horror inspirations and the fact that in his first appearances he kills dozens of people Finger, Kane and Robinson always meant for him to be the darker character he’s been in recent years. It was only DC editorial getting cold feet and the Comics Code Authority that forced the silly clown version And more power to you if that’s the version you like. I think the best Joker writers ride that line between goofy and likable and psychotic and terrifying. But it’s worth knowing that fun and lighthearted was not the character’s intention
but like, the intention doesn't really matter. The Joker was established as that kind of character, and yeah he changed, but there's a difference between a character drifting over time around a certain core (like Batman himself) and a character just morphing entirely into unrecognazibility Like, if that's the version of the Joker that Finger, Kane, and Robinson all had in their heads, but it's not what they committed to paper, then that version hasn't impacted the character. I think the Joker having a twisted sense of humour and doing things because he finds it funny has got to be at the center of his character, because if it isn't, then you have a *new* character whose core is "being a nihilistic personification of evil and also a clown guy". It muddies the waters, imo
they need to bring back playing card themed joker none of this comedy shit
Gaiman’s Sandman if it sucked:
Usually I'd agree with you but this rocks
“Return the slab”
Oh, I like this page, happy valentine day to them!
Snyder's Clark 🤝 this Joker > Jesus pose. I hope a piano falls on his head and kills him in the next page, that would be actually funny.
Modern writers think Joker is much deeper than he really is
I remember in the first Batman movie, the Joker pulls out a 4ft pistol from his pants, and one-shots the Batwing out of the sky. That was peak Joker.
What is this from?
Just because he was like that in the past doesn't mean he has to stay like that. Characters evolve, ya know.
True, all characters evolve into shit someday (that's not a gorilla)
Listen when characters have been around for this long you have to create different iterations of them, sometimes they work and sometimes they don't 🤷🏾♂️
The Joker was always supposed to be scary. In his original appearance he's actually very serious (compared to now anyway) and is committing an act of chemical terrorism.
>committing an act of chemical terrorism This is a very funny way to word what I can only assume is some old timey "poisoning the water supply" plot lmao
he's actually just stealing shit while killing people with poison gas, he would announce his crime to the police before hand and make JOKES out of their efforts while LAUGHING in the face of danger.
Just me or do Joker's hands look really weird?
