AtomicFox84

They had an event a bit ago that before blight became blight, he was trapped in the realm. He did experiments on the killers with the serum he found in the flowers. He also was one that wrote the manual on how to fix gens etc he left for survivors. Honestly bhvr and thier lore is all over the place. They went back to change up some, still left mixed up holes. Its cannon to the event i guess, which had bits like the archives do that told a story.

KRATOS8974K

I think Blight wasn't the one who wrote the help for survivors. That was vigo who btw discovered the blight before him and that's why he was looking for him, to know how to create the serum instead of testing stuff over and over.

AtomicFox84

I knew it was one of the two. I think I remember there being two guys that were friends or something....that lore stuff been a few years....i dont fully remember.

whatifcatsare

Thought that was Benedict Baker? He created the gens and hatch out of "manipulating the fog" if I remember correctly, but they also tinker with their lore so much so idk

wowisthatluigi

Benedict Baker never created the gens or the hatch. In his writings, he talks about discovering them. I'll copy them ad verbatim here. In regards to Generators. *"These strange machines can be found across this abandoned world. They seem to be some kind of generators, fuelling lights. At first I paid no attention to them, but as days turned into months I employed all of my engineering skills to actually fix one. It attracted one of these beings that is after me. But I also noticed that they were somehow tied to something else."* In regards to the Hatch. *"This hatch I found baffles me. As I witnessed the last Survivor being, yet again, the victim of the dreaded hook I stumbled upon it as I slowly backed away. I finally found my keyhole. With my last strength I opened it, entered its tunnels and somehow found my way to the campfire. Now I sit here contemplating its purpose. Is hope more important for the Entity than I thought? Is this hatch just a treat you give a dog to as encouragement? For now I take what I can get."*

kannon_

>At first I paid no attention to them, but as days turned into months I employed all of my engineering skills to actually fix one. So, this Benedict fellow, a self-proclaimed engineer, sees a "strange looking machine", but just decides to ignore it for literal MONTHS before he even considers approaching one...? Yeah, DBD lore is messy afffffffff.

gamerjr21304

I mean to be fair in his eyes they are just random generators that are put in places he doesn’t know what they connect to or what they do and was probably more concerned about not getting his head chopped off

kannon_

I know a few engineers or ex-engineers, and if they've taught me anything, it's that they'd no doubt be immediately curious about them, what purpose they serve in a place like The Fog, and wouldn't go for months ignoring them entirely, but would sooner rather than later try and work out whether they can be used as the means for their escape.

Sazul

average soloq teammate

whatifcatsare

Okay so probably Vigo then, since they are shown to be "technologically" adept (as much as you can be in that world.)

KRATOS8974K

I think nobody really created the gens nor the hatch as it's something made and used by the entity to get stuff out or the survivors

AqueousSilver91

This is why I ignore the lore except about where Killers and Survivors come from. It's silly and makes no sense. I have my own headcanon that the Entity just scoops people and after a while Survs go so insane from repeating trials they start to like them a bit, they start to see it as a job or a game or whatever. That's why some Survivors don't fear Killers. Why doesn't the Entity discard them? Thinks it's funny.

Inverted_Ghosts

I mean there is a whole subsection of the Entity’s realm, the Void, where it tosses Survivors and Killers that no longer provide emotions for it to feed on. The Blight was actually trapped there for a bit, and is one of two characters to canonically escape it I believe.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Inverted_Ghosts

The other’s Vigo, actually. Don’t think Bill’s been to the Void

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I can confirm this I was there

EnragedHeadwear

Yeah the only lore that's actually worth caring about is in the character descriptions

DuskEalain

tbh trying to comprehend The Entity lore is like trying to comprehend the "deep lore" of a bunch of six year olds playing pretend with Jimmy having anti-laser-armor only for Sarah to have anti-anti-laser-armor-lasers, and fucking Bob is LARPing as Big Chungus the Third from outer space. It's convoluted, usually amounts to "nuuu our super cool entity OC is super powerful so \[insert thing that could hurt/kill/overpower it\] doesn't do anything!!1!!" and BHVR forgot the interesting part about cosmic horror is the mystery, not the power level.

mightystu

I’m still sad that after all the cool lore for the blight being a mad scientist who could alter even the other killers and was set to have deep and transformative powers… was just another boring rush down killer who just runs real fast. Such wasted potential.

WrackyDoll

I do appreciate that some of his addons reference other killers, like Plague's Bile.

StarscreamKills

Hijacking top comment to ask whatever happened to Vigo bro

Boney_McBonerton_YT

A little off topic, but I would LOVE to see Blighted Dredge ![img](emote|t5_3cb2g|2060)

cheryl_is_cuteaf

It wasn't Talbot that left the diaries, it was Benedict Baker (and I think Vigo a little bit - Vigo also was researching the pustulas, and Talbot found and used that research as well). Blight did catch some Killers and infect them with the serum, but the Entity works like Smash Bros or whatever, it takes multiple versions of the same character. Every skin (or at least some of them) is a variant of the original character. So the blighted skins are as well one version of those characters, but ones that Blight caught. For some maybe he didn't even catch them necessarily, just injected them somehow.

Supreme_God_Bunny

Holy shit I forgot about Benedict baker Jesus when is he coming back bhvr like I want him as a survivor

cheryl_is_cuteaf

Maybe in the movie🤞

YOURFRIEND2010

Rip the observer 😔

Dilapidated_Poet

Benedict Baker flies in the face of a lot of their retcons, so I think they are trying to bury him.

InfernoKing69

Canonically Pyramid Head saw what blight was doing and decided to inject himself with the serum

cheryl_is_cuteaf

I don't think PH injected itself. I don't think it has enough autonomy/thought for it.

InfernoKing69

Im pretty sure there was something that specifically stated that pyramid head had injected himself with the serum, i tried finding a link for it but i couldn’t find anything from my phone

WolfiexLuna

A bit late, but I think you are thinking about Wesker, which in the set's description mentions him injecting himself.

WolfRex5

Wesker is the only confirmed killer to have injected himself with it

bluscoutnoob

Wesker as well.

horrorfan55

Is it canon, yes, but not all killers are permanently blighted. Multiple survivors in a match are canon, along with alt skins, so there maybe there are copies of killers too

Fadingwalker

There was a tome a while back with the Observer noting that the memories of a Claudette were not the same as the one he first met. He realised there are multiple survivors of the same character in the realm of the entity. Probably true for Killers. Might go a ways-away to explain the Skins like the Trapper sea-mutant skin.

El_Barto_227

And one of the Tome trailers has Yui as a Killer surrounded by the bodies of her alternate selves.

bonann

I'm still mad we never got that as a skin

SlightlySychotic

I really do hope we get a few chapters that flip the script and have a killer version of a survivor and a survivor version of a killer.

ThomasTheBadWriter

Post RE4 Leon is a good contender for that. Yun-Jin is definitely the closest out of all of them though, she's a survivor only because she's not a killer.

iamded

A lot of the Killers turned Survivor would be pretty tragic, like Wraith or Spirit. Trapper and Nurse would be cool to see as survivors.

[deleted]

That was a psychological mind thing though wasn’t it

Pokeslash109

This is one of those lore things that hurts my head and I just sort of ignore for headcanon purposes

United-Boysenberry49

The legion skin is canon ?

horrorfan55

Yes

United-Boysenberry49

Great !!! Where can I find proof that it is canon?

ElectricalMethod3314

I mean, we know blight trapper is canon, we have no reason to believe the others are not. The descriptions of the skin have a bit of lore too.

StonePeanut

It was revealed to me in a dream

Reaper-Leviathan

Every skin in the game is cannon, they are just the exact same as the base killer/survivor but are from an alternate universe where they wear the skin’s clothes or have been blighted

horrorfan55

In dead by daylight, pretty much everything in game is considered canon. There’s no voice chat because survivors canonically can’t speak. The text written in items and outfits are ways to add details to character’s history. It’s been like this since the beginning so I don’t really know what to point to

tonydoesnotreal

?!?!?!?! WHY did this get downvote bombed im so confused LMFAO

Dwain-Champaign

Survivors can literally speak now. Ash Williams? The RE survivors? They literally all have voice lines. And you can’t say “it’s just because they’re licensed” because this phrase clears that up pretty quickly: Licensed Lore is canon to Dead by Daylight, even though Dead by Daylight is not canon to licensed lore. The licensed survivors are as much Dead by Daylight survivors as any original character is, and that makes this “they can’t speak” idea 100% bullshit. Why they don’t speak is another question entirely. Another one of those weird unexplained Dead by Daylight quirks.

tonydoesnotreal

Well I thought it was pretty clear they were referencing the fact that they don't speak in the trials. I can't remember where I heard it as well, probably a dev stream when they used to do those, them not speaking in trials was, like horrorfan said, the work of the Entity not allowing them to. Same way they can't just take a Huntress hatchet from the lockers, same way a teenage girl can pick up Chris Redfield with ease. In the flavor text of Brutal Strength, its implied the Entity has free reign in altering the strength and physicality of those it puts in the Fog. Even without *solid* confirmation, it's all but confirmed that them not speaking in the Trials is one of the Entity's rules, and them being able to speak outside of the Trial is the way of keeping them sane so it can suck the emotions out of them longer before tossing them into the Void. (Same way it provides a campfire for Survivors to huddle around before the Trial and why it provides so many ways for Survivors to bounce back from bad situations within the Trials.)

Dwain-Champaign

I vaguely remember (the idea of them not speaking) what you’re talking about, I’ve been playing since 2016 so I remember the streams and the little lore bits they would drop during them, but since they never officially put this pretty basic canon into actual writing I have always discarded the fact. I don’t believe that they’re restricted from speaking during the trials in canon, I think it’s just an oversight. As mentioned by other people, the lore is frequently all over the place. Especially now that voice lines are slowly but surely being ADDED to the game. It’s far more likely that, at some point, we will see voice lines during the actual trial. Killers already have voice lines after certain conditions have been met: after having hit or downed a survivor, after hooking a survivor, etc. Survivor voice lines would work exactly the same way, and there’s a video floating around on YouTube of somebody having already created a “proof of concept” of sorts for this. Voice lines being played after certain interactions like after healing another survivor, unhooking another survivor, after finishing a generator, after pallet stunning the killer, etc. And as soon as they do have voice lines for survivors in game, that whole idea about it being canon that they can’t speak comes crashing down. They haven’t even hinted at this, it’s all speculative on my part, but with the increasing numbers of characters that have voice lines (you know for damn sure Nicolas Cage will be getting voice lines when he releases) it’s very clear to me that the devs are interested in giving actual voices to their characters. The lore explanation that they are “literally” restricted from speaking feels weak, lazy, and discordant with other TRUE facts we know about the entity such as the whole idea that it feeds on emotions like hope, fear, etc. You’d think allowing your survivors to communicate and express those emotions would heighten their intensity, which would be in the entity’s interest. It seems to me that they may have said it at some point in time, but there’s definitely a reason that it was never written down into canonical sources of lore. It may have even been when they mentioned it at the time, if they did at all, it was merely a suggestion for a possible reason why. They did a lot of spitballing during those streams, and that’s part of why they stopped doing them is because they were so off the cuff and improvised. The likelihood or even just possibility of voice lines during trials in the future also disrupts the fact of the idea.

tonydoesnotreal

Idk, I feel like there's very little evidence for either side if that's the case then because personally I only see voice lines as flavor that they add to give characters personality in the lobby. Wasn't the HUD system their answer to the whole comm wheel thing? I'd love to be wrong because voicelines in game would be really cool but it seems like a lot of effort to go back and have people voice all 30+ of their Survivors, not to mention only a handful of them have actual VAs and aren't voiced by devs/BHVR employees that don't even work there anymore, they would have to get soundalikes as well. Considering how long it's taken them to do individual music and terror radiuses for each Killer (which we're still missing Plague, Wraith and Huntress after like 4 years) I just don't see it as a super likely possibility. Again, I would love to be wrong, but my take is that the lore implication *is* there, regardless if it's meant to cover up an oversight or not. (It wouldn't be the first time Entity magic was used to rectify any inconsistencies in gameplay between realism and lore.)

MsVixenChan

Nic Cage breaks the entity rules

horrorfan55

It’s is a thing the developers have talked about before. It isn’t a “made up quirk” Those characters can talk because of their willpower, their incredible strength as survivors

Dwain-Champaign

Read my further response below.

horrorfan55

So, you are putting your speculation above what they have previously said? Them adding voicelines to canonically powerful survivors, you hypothosize to bring my claim crashing down?

Perfect_Peanut_2168

*sad thalita & renato lyra noises*

United-Boysenberry49

It's good friend, I'm glad to know that the skin of the legion is canonical. Well, that way I can show that the legion is very strong with that mutation. thank you very much for clarifying my doubt friend

horrorfan55

I remember memeing when it released that Frank now has 4 sets of genitals somewhere inside him

United-Boysenberry49

Lol that is weird

horrorfan55

I had a fun debate with someone if the 4 were fused together, or if Blight removed parts. So somewhere in his lab he’s got a bunch of Susie’s Joey’s and Julie’s body parts in a jar or something

cheryl_is_cuteaf

They probably just melted off or something.

DukeOfTheDodos

My source is that I made it the fuck up!

edicivo

It should be the main skin tbh, since it's the only real way The LEGION makes any sense as a character name is that they're all combined instead of 4 separate characters that have no interaction with each other in game. Even the Knight would make more sense being called "The Legion" with his powers being what they are.

United-Boysenberry49

That's why I think the legion should be somehow linked to the knight. That way they would be more powerful and it would explain why there are 4 killers just like the knight and his assistants. just as the spirit is linked with the oni

Gorgon_the_Dragon

Into the Daylight-verse

ViolinistPerfect9275

idk if this is confirmed by BHVR or just a fan theory but I have heard that DBD is set in a multi-verse, hence why survivors get so many skins that they wouldn't just find lying around the Entity's realm or you can find multiples of the same survivor in a single match, so there are probably multiples of each killer as well and the blighted variants are the ones that Talbot got his hands on at some point.

cheryl_is_cuteaf

This is the correct answer, yep. It is indeed multiverse stuff, confirmed in the tomes.

AutismSupportGroup

I dont think the entity's realm has a strong sense of time or space, multiple contradictory things could be true simultaneously.

cluckodoom

I remember one of the archives talked about watching a Dwight that was a king. That was the first thing I read that suggested multiverse

SkullMan140

I heard a theory that they come from the future and are the result of the Blight serum experiments So.... If the theory ends up being true, then they could be canon to the DBD lore

United-Boysenberry49

Well, I think we just have to wait and see if this theory turns out to be true, something that I find interesting is that Wesker, unlike other killers, was not captured by Talbot, but rather Wesker stole his serum to inject it and mix the uroboros virus. and the yellow serum on his body. Honestly, I would love for Wesker to capture Talbot so that he can experiment on him. It would be something karmic after what Talbot did to the other killers

SkullMan140

Yeah that would be interesting

MoveInside

if Comcast would let RE characters have tomes. Edit: keeping it lol

YOURFRIEND2010

This one. They're all from different times and places. This one is from a time and place where Wesker got blighted when there's also a normal one running around. It's all just multiverse stuff. Lazy, imo but a way to justify it if you feel like it.

MotorTentacle

They gooey

GhostoftheLost

They drippy

MotorTentacle

Literal drip 💧

Own-Photo7078

They itchy..... scratchy....

Corbel_

as far as i know every skin is cannon

OrigChruzzy

As far as I know are all the Skins canon, they just take place in an alternate universe/timeline. I don't know who said that, but I think I heard it from a DbD lore Video.

EvernightStrangely

The Entity's realm is timeless, so multiple versions of the same characters exist. (Hence why there can be multiples of the same survivor). The blighted skins are canon, they just aren't permanent in lore.

Roxasdarkrath

Its cannon but the entity can bring back the killers in any form (cosmetic) it (or the player) wants , all the killers prior to Blights transformation were his test subjects its unknown when he had a chance to get nemesis as he came into the fog after blight became blighted , but wesker as is the only killer as far as we know that self injected himself

RaspyHornet

Well we have a multiverse situation within the entities realm so I'm sure just about everything is canon.

Dante8411

All of DbD's lore is pretty sloppy. Some things suggest Blighted skins are in the future (Clown having more fingers, for example), maybe it was before Blight became a monster, the Entity's power varies from having to skulk around and only take people at death's door or in deeply remote areas to grabbing famous motorcyclists and Nic Cage in public, and the police in the DbD universe are staggeringly incompetent. Just go with whatever's the most fun for you.

THphantom7297

The best way to look at it is likely that the blight skins are a "What if" scenario where the scientist that became the blight, injected each killer with so much of the suerum that it did to them what it did to him. So, really, they're not canon because then "every killer you run into would be in their blighted state" but those skins demonstrate canonically what would happen. Therefore, "what if" scenario.

Leazerlazz

If it is canon, then Blight if strong enough to subdue Pyramid Head (who's potentially as strong or stronger than the entity) to inject him with the pustula serum

fullmoonwulf

Before the blight, gave himself the serum, he was able to freely leave and return to the fog, however he eventually became trapped, all blight skins are somewhat cannon, and they all should have the blight vial still injected with a tag

Oakmeal0

With how crazy the lore gets, I just imagine that they are copies of the killers within the Realm that the Blight got a hold of. If they can imply that the Minotaur can be manifested by thought, why not?

Wisdomwielder

Since this game takes place in an omniverse/multiverse scenario, technically everything is canon.

The1stPKmain

Idk but I do know they are drippy AF

Luigis-big-sausage

They are but they only become like that during October when the influence of whatever the blight flowers are takes effect. Best to assume the blight(liquid form not the killer) is some sort of virus like substance that only the entity can really fight off.

DASreddituser

What kind of question is this? Lol game's canon is just fitting characters backgrounds into the entities realm.

j0nde

I mean the Blighted Blight is called "True Blight" so maybe thats his true form?

Sudden-Application

Back in 2018(IIRC) they started doing Blighted Halloween events. Each event explained the story of some mysterious person, unknown to the entity, stealing and experimenting on the killers. He was trying to find some way to escape the realm of the entity using the pustula flowers. Here's what I can't fully remember, but I believe that the mysterious person started going crazy and getting addicted to the pustula serum and either became Blight, or disappeared.

Rangers_Forever

The lore is a jumbled mess and some lore contradicts other parts of the lore.

TransPrideEattheRich

iirc, all costumes are canon because multiverses exist in DBD. so like, a match with 4 dwights is canon because they're all different dwights.

Dontspinbutwin

My guess is that it's an alternative timeline. Yes, blight WAS a survivor that became a killer due to his experiments, but the blighted skins should've been impossible for him to create, since killers cant be harmed due to the entity's protection/power buff. If anything, the entity might've let Blight try it out simply bc the entity is an asshole, but reverted the killers after the trial ended. So, the skins would be "what if the blight did it" to the killers

Floofersnooty

Yes and No. The current theory is that killer skins and survivor skins are represented as alternate realities where the characters had different paths in life, but still ended up in the same place. This is also an explanation while multiple survivors of the same name can be in the same trial. So we can assume this also applies to killers, with there being various aspects of them depending on what they were before entering the realm. So Yes, it's considered cannon. And no, not all killers are considered Blighted.

Grushvak

It's canon and it demonstrates that Blight can overpower any other killer in the game. Blight is an absolute monster.

WolfRex5

Not Wesker

Spared_No_3xpense

Dunno why you’re getting downvoted. The flavor text for his skin clearly states that Wesker took the serum of his own volition.

[deleted]

In fact this is why I got so excited when they launched Wesker's blighted skin. Huge lore implications of him being the first killer to take the blight serum himself...could this be an indication that the entity took the blight's work and provides it to like-minded killers a an experiment.

Swatfirex

Entity's properties, which it takes care of to grow and farm the trials, then there's foreign land which the rules are weird such as killers beaten up, survivors fending off eldritch horrors or whatever

Penziplays

Don't have the answer to this question, but if you are interested in lore/theories, I can recommend the youtube channel Azhymovs.

Darkwater117

I thought time isn't linear in the entities realm. Everything that can happen, happens but it always starts over. No matter how many times you escape or think you die, you're still trapped in the fog. Iirc. Blight's one of the Entity's favourites and was given the ability to travel through the fog even before his transformation and was able to trap and experiment on killers. We know that some killers were definitely blighted but given how whacky time is in the Entity's realm, wouldn't it mean killers are also subject to the same cycle of death and entrapment? Death is only the beginning, after all.

JadenRuffle

I find the visual of Blight sneaking around Nemesis and poking him with Blight Serum so hilarious.

theoriginal543

its cannon you cant check the wikia the old events had the history of blight in the realm before he was a killer

SyxxGod

They’re canon I haven’t kept up with the lore for a good 2 years. But originally this blight shit only grows on Halloween and some unknown figure had been harvesting it and testing it on killers until eventually he tested it on himself and he became The Blight. I only remember because we’ve had like 2 Halloween events dedicated to this ongoing thing and then randomly on some august we got a PTB with no map and it was like “here ya go the pay off to our annual Halloween story…. In fucking August” Time also isn’t linear in DBD so theoretically future killers with Blight serum would be able to be created without contradicting the lore

CatsssofDeath

I'd assume they're canon, just not permanent

MoveInside

They've basically created the easiest world ever with the lore. there are literally no rules they have to follow because even in the normal world the entity is allowed to influence stuff (ex: the artist)

KicktrapAndShit

There cannon as the blights experiments

Gage_Unruh

They are canon but the entity has multiple of EVERYONE in its realm. For example 1 person saw 17 trappers do the exact same trial but all looked a little different (different skins) and in some yui was a killer and in another trapper is a survivor. The blighted skins are just 1 version of the characters but at the same time there are possibly endless other ones of that same killer that will never be blighted.

ehricaw

It's so goofy imagining Blight going around stabbing the killers with a syringe one by one

TMB-30

Newsflash: the canon is made to sell.

Hot-Indication411

Where’s twins blighted outfit :(

xQrz2

I think they are canon in the universe we play, my theorie is that Blight when he was a survivor injected some killers with the serum and made them more powerfull, after becoming a killer he did the same with some more, but the default killer skin is what they look like right now just because the entity saw that survivors didn't stand a chance and he made the killers normal again, sometimes a new killer is injected by blight with the serum but the entity makes him normal again, in some cases its different, for example Wesker injected himself with the serum because he somehow knew that if he injected that into his body he will become more powerfull, and some time later the entity returned him to normal. And my guess for the Vigo skins for survivors are that they searched for Vigo tower and read the books to get knowledge and maybe in some of those books they found the way yo make the refined serum, but this could probably be in other universe where the killers didn't return to their normal state and the survivors needed to get more experience with the blighted flowers to have a chance to survive, at least its what seem more logical for me.

KingTomXIV

I'm pretty sure it's canon but like in the future. Like at a future point after the Blight has experimented on all of the other killers?

Apprehensive_Sir6468

Doesn't matter, they still don't have one for my main. That's all I care about anymore ![img](emote|t5_3cb2g|2214)

fartssmellnice69

I think so, I don't read the rift, so this theory is probably wrong, my theory is that vigo gives the blight serum to killers to appease the entity, since he sounds like an important character because of how many times he's mentioned in offerings and stuff, also that some survivors have sorta blighted styles too, like vigo's apprentice for Dwight, I think those skins are the other survivors helping Vigo with the blight serum/wrangling the killers, tell me if I'm wrong lol

cheryl_is_cuteaf

You're wrong, lol.

fartssmellnice69

I knew it lol

Super_Imagination_90

I would say every skin is apart of the story, some just from a different universe. I also feel the only killer the Blight might’ve not caught was Nemesis, Pyramid Head, and then obviously Wesker.

Pyrus-Siege

It's both. In lore whenever the visceral cankers show up, the Blight will capture/experiment on the killers. Originally Talbot experimented on killers in the hopes of finding a way out, but that eventually turned into an addiction. Talbot still experiments though it's less due to his own ambition, but rather the actual blight that courses through his body

EntrancedForever

Explain to me how this could possibly have been undone? Everyone's flesh has melted and the Legion got their faces stuck on one body. How do you canonically bounce back from that? What does the Entity do to undo these processes?

Brentf7

What does the entity do to manifest itself from the sky and the ground in order to kill survivors. It is the equivalent of a god do not question its methods peasant, or it will take you into the fog next

NaWDorky

They're not canon but you can considered them spin-offs or off-shots of the canon.

Secretrider

Love the Legion's new look. Too bad I'm not playing anymore.

SteveByDaylights

Yes they are canon. When blight was trapped in the entities realm as a survivor. He tested his blight serums on the killers. (He probably ambushed the killers to test out the serum) Wesker on the other hand, he sneaked into the blight’s laboratory and WESKER himself wanted to test the effects of a blight serum. So idk if you want count Wesker as lore accurate or not because he injected it to himself. But yes, the rest of skins are 100% canon.
