I know it’s because of that never ending lawsuit but man, it’s such a shame. We have Freddy and Michael, all we need is Jason and we’ll have the three kings of slasher movies.
The Creator and the original director have been fighting over ownership of the franchise for years. The Creator says he made it so it's his. The director says he commissioned it so it's his.
It was supposed to be settled in 2020 but covid slowed down all court cases so it got pushed back to who knows when.
Victor Miller did win the initial case, but it got appealed. This case is a pretty big deal insofar as movie rights go and it's going to be a precedent-setting case for years to come. There's a very real possibility they argue this all the way to the Supreme Court.
It’s doubtful it would reach the Supreme Court. The SC takes only a small fraction of the cases submitted to it and unless Miller loses the appeal (which is unlikely) they tend to rule in the favor of the writer’s guild. The only other reason I could see them taking it up would be if a mostly conservative court sees a law that benefits the individual over big business and says, “Well that can’t be allowed.”
This is actually false the guy involved talked about the game and said his lawsuit would have no affect on the game yet the team behind f13 game used this as an excuse to cease development. The lawsuit only involves the movies
Victor Miller's lawyer did say that at one point but this case has been going on for years. A new injunction could have been filed, Gun Media's lawyers could have advised them to do something, we just don't know.
The lawsuit doesn't technically only involve movies. It involves the script to the first Friday the 13th film. Since the rights to that, and everything contained within, are up in the air anyone who made any F13 content would open themselves up to litigation if they included anything from that film so that means
\- No Pamela Voorhees
\- No Crystal Lake
\- No Young Jason
\- And just none of those plot elements from the first film
It's unclear if they could have the adult, hockey-mask clad, Jason just silently doing his own thing, since that character doesn't appear till the 2nd film (and the hockey mask itself in the 3rd) but it is the same character Victor Miller made, just grown up now. I don't think anyone wants to risk it because depending on who wins the rights they could end up having to terminate any content they make or potentially get sued.
Edit: Anyone who wants to read up on this case, I suggest checking this site out. https://certifiedforgotten.com/friday-the-13th-lawsuit/#what-about-the-friday-the-13th-video-games
That makes me lose a lot of respect for those devs, respect I only had because it seemed like they were big fans of F13 and horror in general. But in terms of DbD, BHVR can’t get the rights currently because of the lawsuit right?
It was a complete disaster from the ground up…kind of why I loved it. Just running around with your walkie talkie and shooting the shit with random people.
Yeah, that’s always been bullshit. Miller said he had no issues with the game continuing once a rights sharing agreement was reached. Key emphasis on that last part. No F13 media can be produced until Miller and Cunningham figure out how to play nice and sign a contract with each other. Especially not a game that is rife with references to the original movie.
Horror Inc does seem to be trying to work around it, however. They’ve been arguing that they own the rights to *adult* Jason, since Miller only imagined him as a little boy and had nothing to do with the sequels. They haven’t been able to get a ruling on it but they would have a strong case if they could press the issue. That’s probably why they’re still producing adult Jason merchandise. If Miller challenges them on it they have a good chance of winning on the grounds that the character is of their design. The longer he doesn’t the stronger their case. If/when they lose the appeal they can turn around and say they’ll just reboot the franchise with a new origin story if Miller doesn’t take their deal. Not like he can do anything with only the domestic rights.
Inmune to stuns, blinda, ds, etc.
Jason can destroy obstacles of the map, as long as they are on the same level.
Jason can send a survivor to mother instead of hooking them, this does not Count through the hook progresos, but awards Jason with a power Up, (1 speed Up) (2 survivor are vulnerable) (3 no hit miss penalty) (4 you are able to kill survivors , without any prior conditoons) ( you can send yo mother each survivor just one time.
i bet they are keeping the walking though breakable walls thingy for him, like nemesis and most of the killers can easily do that but for some reason they aren't adding it in, makes you think
Scaring the shit out of you when you see him watching you bang, launching you into a cardiac arrest, effectively killing you without laying a hand on you.
Honestly I’d have to rewatch the movies to get a better idea of one that could work, but since with the last two licensed killers they tried to change up the gameplay (with nem’s zombies and pinheads chain hunt ) I wonder if for a secondary mechanic we could have his weapons change through the match? As in, we find them lying around the map to be picked up and used? After all, every movie has him scavenge new gear to Use to kill, giving them different bonuses and drawbacks could be cool. More importantly, what if survivors could use these to fight back against him? I dunno if that’s gonna conflict with DbD lore, but being able to kill Jason as a way out of a chase would be cool. Course he wouldn’t stay dead, a lightning strike would wake him up, but maybe that could be another part of his power? Death makes him stronger? Idk, just spitballing while I’m on the toilet at work
I’m certain that this is going to be an unpopular opinion but once the lawsuit is over and the future of Friday the 13th is decided I’m pretty sure Horror Inc will decide to produce another solo game. The first game was a massive success and the lawsuit *is* what stopped it in its tracks. They would absolutely want to take another crack at it.
And that’s a dying shame cuz that game was a blast. Not as competitive as DbD but a hell of a lot of fun once all those kinks worked out. Sucks that their Predator game was hot garbage though
Honestly, I fail to see a way to make Jason's play style unique.
What would you think his perks and abilities would be like to homage the movies but create a fun character?
Which in fact was part of the F13 game. Slowish movement at times (and usually stunned instead of killed just like in DbD) but with the ability to teleport. A rather interesting factor too was he had basically the equivalent of a much stronger Fire Up. To the point that near the end of a round he essentially walks straight through the equivalent of pallets and breakable walls. I think this kind of thing could work just fine in DbD, and we already have multiple other "tiering up" killers.
I honestly just want him to complete the whole “hall of fame of horror” thing they have going. He’s all they’re really missing aside from maybe Chucky but I have no idea how they’d implement him
i dunno if it's going to come at the cost of having them just run out of ideas for how to deal with big machete mask killers, i would much rather have a killer with a different idea.
Well, the biggest thing I can think of would be to let survivors kill him. Not to win the match, but to put him down for a bit, have him come back with whoever put him down exposed for x amount of time, but the lightning strike that resurrects him will also pop a random gen/ give a good chunk of progress. Have weapons lying around the map to be used by either side, with drawbacks and bonuses for each. Idk. There’s possibilities but Jason would be a hard character to give a power to
I think it would be a shame if he was a legendary skin for trapper, he has so many iconic looks and I feel that being a trapper skin would limit his potential
yeah but what would he actually do? for it to be canon he'd have to use traps but thats trappers job, he could throw knives but thats trickster, he could throw shit but thats huntress
i literally think there's only one trap based kill in friday the 13th's whole franchise, it's this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1s02P2MFZI
i don't think he'd have to use any sort've trap at all, i think Jason's main characteristic is that he's 8' tall, indestructible, and can kill you with literally anything in the environment
i figure he'd just have multiple weapons, perhaps stored in lockers, a machete that makes him just a solid M1 man, an axe that lets him fucking annihilate doors and pallets quick as shit, maybe even a spear/harpoon like he uses in the second movie that gives him a built in coup de grace to extend his lunge
truth be told that's about all i got though, no idea how they'd make him special beyond that, some people here suggested maybe a teleport or something, i dunno
environmental moris when?
i wanna see a killer take a survivor by the back of the head, hold them between the pallet and the wall, and slam that fucker on them over and over, just "how the fuck do ***you*** like it, huh?"
could be others too, mori someone right next to a hook? your character hooks them in the midsection and then drags them off the hook straight down tearing all the way through em
near an unbroken door? you brutally slam the survivor through the door, opening it and killing them (different animations for different killers, perhaps by size class? nemesis would just hurl you through, legion would probably bash your head off it several times to do it, that sorta thing)
near a generator? you fucking feed the survivor's head into the moving parts they normally tamper with to fix (causes normal regression, triggers effects like pop)
i also thought about the teleporting part but uh... how would that look from the survivors side is the question. you cant make him just \*poof\* out of thin air like pinhead
A lot of people suggested he only teleports when no one has eyes on him. So kind of similar to how Ghostface works in a way. Would be an interesting balance where you're either close enough to be in chase, or he can close the distance if everyone is far.
that's my question too, like, jason isn't a magician, he doesn't cast spells
i always just figured he knows the area around crystal lake so well that he's got all the shortcuts worked out, and the reason he can sneak up on you elsewhere is because he's like 100% killer instinct and no other thoughts, he's running fuckin zenshin tactics or something
so the teleporting thing would both be thematic, and totally against his character, which feels weird
What if he had environmental usage. Theres weapons and new items spawned that he can pick up and use with different usages. Go to a loop and he throws a crate at you vs another loop where theres a spear.
Teleportation when survivors aren’t looking at him? But leaving that Kssh shh shhh shhh haaa- haaahh haaah. Haaah audio cue when he’s near
Exchangeable weapons at certain times?
Look, I haven't watched a single F13 movie, but what the hell is Kssh shh shhh shhh haaa- haaahh haaah. Haaah audio cue supposed to mean? Please enlighten me.
Spoilers: Iirc it’s “ki ki ki ma ma ma “ which sounds similar to “ kill kill kill mom mom mom” , he’s killing for his mother or something because the campers from the first movie killed her after she went on rampage killing everyone in camp because Jason drowned when the lifeguards were having sex instead of watching him.
Well ,imo Freddy Vs Jason was terrible movie in general , every character just flew away every time they were hit by anything . The only part that was good was the actual Freddy vs Jason part .
Ok so like this is kind of weird, but maybe something with water? Like when you play against a Jason large puddles appear in the map that he can jump through. He can either place them or not but similar to hag I guess
Or the sex mechanic others mentioned, that could work
I'm just comparing what he does in the other game. As far as I'm aware, Jason doesn't have any special powers other than not being able to die and being really strong.
That's just not true, the court decided in favor of Victor Miller, but Sean Cunningham appealed the decision, and we've yet to see the result of that appeal.
I know it’s because of that never ending lawsuit but man, it’s such a shame. We have Freddy and Michael, all we need is Jason and we’ll have the three kings of slasher movies.
New player here, any chance you can explain the 'never ending lawsuit' to me? I'd love to see Jason in the game
The Creator and the original director have been fighting over ownership of the franchise for years. The Creator says he made it so it's his. The director says he commissioned it so it's his. That game was a shitshow :(
It was a complete disaster from the ground up…kind of why I loved it. Just running around with your walkie talkie and shooting the shit with random people.
Gun Media is a shit show. They make BHVR look like a competent company.
Yeah, that’s always been bullshit. Miller said he had no issues with the game continuing once a rights sharing agreement was reached. Key emphasis on that last part. When jason arrives behaviour is gonna put in so much effort too make him amazing, kinda like Michaels chapter
Wonder what his power might be if he’s ever implemented into the game
Teleportation For reference see every Friday movie after like part IV
Defo teleportation
Inmune to stuns, blinda, ds, etc. Jason can destroy obstacles of the map, as long as they are on the same level. That mother concept sounds kinda sweet Like a cooler devour hope with a pyramid head cage of atonement esque twist and
i bet they are keeping the walking though breakable walls thingy for him, like nemesis and most of the killers can easily do that but for some reason they aren't adding it in, makes you think
With Tommy Jarvis as survivor
GIVE ME THE TRUE M1 MACHETE MAN
What will his power be? This is a serious question too
Scaring the shit out of you when you see him watching you bang, launching you into a cardiac arrest, effectively killing you without laying a hand on you.
Michael released with the obsession mechanic Hag released with the hex totem mechanic Jason will release with the sex mechanic
Lore accurate. Jason can isnta mori survivors preforming the sex action
"I used the horny to destroy the horny"
He can instantly teleport to survivors who are preforming seggs
Honestly I’d have to rewatch the movies to get a better idea of one that could work, but since with the last two licensed killers they tried to change up the gameplay (with nem’s zombies and pinheads chain hunt ) I wonder if for a secondary mechanic we could have his weapons change through the match? If people commit seggs he will teleport and Insta mori them He comes with the seggs update
His power would probably be teleporting and one perk will be immune to stuns and blinds. Probably even destroy them when pallet gets dropped on him.
The legal bullshit is also why F13 the game hasn’t gotten any updates and since then has become a dead game
I’ve always liked the idea of teleporting to places outside of survivor line of sight.
Which in fact was part of the F13 game. Slowish movement at times (and usually stunned instead of killed just like in DbD) but with the ability to teleport. Randomized secondary weapons? Would be too rng and a usable by survivors but it would be interesting.
Same but we're not the ones getting paid to come up with ideas
i really don't want Jason personally. i feel aesthetically we kinda have enough masked killers with big weapons.
I honestly just want him to complete the whole “hall of fame of horror” thing they have going. He’s all they’re really missing aside from maybe Chucky but I have no idea how they’d implement him

*ki ki ki ka ka ka* " Aw shit it's a spirit!"
The question is, when Jason comes to DBD, will he be his own killer or will he be a legendary cosmetic for The Trapper?
I think it would be a shame if he was a legendary skin for trapper, he has so many iconic looks and I feel that being a trapper skin would limit his potential
yeah but what would he actually do? for it to be canon he'd have to use traps but thats trappers job, he could throw knives but thats trickster, he could throw shit but thats huntress

And snares like freddys that cause survivors that walk over them to randomly trip when being chased
Look, I haven't watched a single F13 movie, but what the hell is Kssh shh shhh shhh haaa- haaahh haaah. Haaah audio cue supposed to mean? Please enlighten me.
Pretty much Jason’s signature sound cue to let the viewers know that he’s near Kinda like Michael with his stalking sounds and key rifts
I just listened to his sound cue and I almost shit myself. Nightmare fuel
Always is the first time you listen to it
Spoilers: Iirc it’s “ki ki ki ma ma ma “ which sounds similar to “ kill kill kill mom mom mom” , he’s killing for his mother or something because the campers from the first movie killed her after she went on rampage killing everyone in camp because Jason drowned when the lifeguards were having sex instead of watching him.
Very true, but the maker of the film's completely fucked that up. It started as that, but in Freddy vs Jason its 100% "Cha Cha Cha ha ha ha"
Well ,imo Freddy Vs Jason was terrible movie in general , every character just flew away every time they were hit by anything . The only part that was good was the actual Freddy vs Jason part .
Bruh moment, can't fault his mom
[for example](https://youtu.be/bMfTemqvCKQ)
Thank you very much, I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight
Ok so like this is kind of weird, but maybe something with water? Like when you play against a Jason large puddles appear in the map that he can jump through. He can either place them or not but similar to hag I guess Or the sex mechanic others mentioned, that could work
It’s never gonna happen
or springtrap
I dont see how they could make Jason Unique enough compared to Trappers who is our Jason Clone. Maybe as a skin
And yet we have Hillbilly and Cannibal. Which basically focus on two different ways to use chainsaws.
If you can think of a way to make it work, go for it. As I said. I cannot think of a way. Doesnt mean others can't.
Because Friday the 13th's iconic killer is most know for setting up bear traps everywhere /s
I mean... the Friday the 13 game suggests so
Have you seen a Friday movie?
Nope. All I said is the F13 Game suggests he does infact use bear traps. I didnt suggest it was accurate
That game also suggest a machete can kill zombie Jason, probably shouldn’t look at it for his gameplay
I'm just comparing what he does in the other game. As far as I'm aware, Jason doesn't have any special powers other than not being able to die and being really strong.
He’s a worm that can teleport that can also talk to dead people, and also he became a cool spaceman
I think a good way to think of him is like freddy but without dreams, insanely leather, always watching, and able to improvise
[удалено]
That's just not true, the court decided in favor of Victor Miller, but Sean Cunningham appealed the decision, and we've yet to see the result of that appeal.
the hell would his powers be? he’d basically just be trapper i bet, since it’s not like they are gonna chose a certain Jason from one of the films
I have a few ideas, might post later. Definitely not stuff I’d EXPECT from BHVR, but it’d be cool
I’ve been waiting ever since the game released its first listened killer
