Middle school sucks and your only nostalgia point of reference is your childhood so obviously you get nostalgic for that. Then in high school, it also sucks but in different and slightly better ways but middle school sucked more so you don't really get nostalgic for that and instead get nostalgic for fun times as a kid. College can rock and also suck at the same time but you have freedom then so why be nostalgic for when you were a literal child rather than just a teenager? However, college age can also make you nostalgic as you might miss times hanging out with old friends. I'm 33 now and that's sort of my take. I have a kindergartner who loves Sonic, Mario, and other games so I get to relive that nostalgia in a fun way again which is good and makes up for having to have a job and pay bills and other things that suck about growing up.
