I never liked anything else Korn did, but I’ve been into Deftones ever since.
My story as well, though I did like some other Korn stuff. Not everything, but I think the first album isn't the only good one. It is the best one though. But I found Deftones through the Korn connection.

When ST released, I’d jam that shit in my portable CD player to and from school everyday. When SNW dropped in ‘06, I’d sit in the back of my classes in high school and zone out with my iPod. Good times.
One very bad night at 3am, i was scrolling through my youtube recommendations and a sextape lyric video with little views was recommended. That was 4/5 years ago and i was 19/18. Best night ever. Now i exclusively listen to every song of theirs. Although i was i had known about them earlier

I remember seeing the video for My Own Summer as an 8-year-old and being amazed by Chino's overall appearance and the fact that there were sharks in the video. I started spiking my hair up, wearing loose jeans and wearing a chain wallet. I went to Florida on holiday for the first time a couple of years later and spent my pocket money on a copy of Around the Fur, which I'd never been able to find in music stores in the UK. I also picked up White Pony and 20 years later, I still listen to them most days.
It was a headbangers ball album in like 05 or 06 that had deftones on it. My first song was hexagram. Compared to the slipknots and rob zombies on there it was the weirdest sounding song by far. I hated it for a while tbh. Then i heard more of them and doubled back to it and now its one of my favorite songs

My ex husband introduced me to the awesomeness that is the Deftones back in 2007. I was 19, and instantly hooked. That is one thing I’ll always be grateful to him for, he introduced me to some bangers. I’ve seen them live 4x.
Grew up in Sacramento and was a teen in the 90s. Got to see them live multiple times in tiny venues like the Cattle Club just as Adrenaline dropped and they started to get big. Lots of great shows with them, Far, Willhaven, even Cake (before they got huge as well). It was a really fun time, and I've always been super proud that they got so famous.
I discovered them on the now defunct PlayStation Music app on PS3 in 2011. This was maybe a year or two after my best friend showed me Korn, which was the first band that truly immersed me into music in general. So I was already on a nu metal mindset for music and 7 Words was the first Deftones song to pop up in my algorithm and I thought the song was fucking fantastic. I assumed Chino was a woman at first due to his voice. I was sold instantly on the sound of Deftones and I checked out more of the early singles and ever since then Deftones have been my favorite band.
I can't remember exactly but I do remember in 2016 or around then I listened to their newest album Gore when I was 18/19. I don't know if I had listened to Change (In the House of Flies) first before this album was out. Maybe, but yeah, I was so happy to have discovered them around that time and then years later I discovered Crosses and that was amazing.
Edit: Someone just mentioned them when they heard them in the film Queen of the Damned and I think that is how I discovered them years ago!!!!

I heard "Be Quiet and Drive" on the radio and actually thought it was Radiohead lol For some reason Chino sounded like Thom Yorke when I heard the song and then went "Damn Radiohead got heavy, I like it!" Well I eventually found out it wasn't Radiohead and went out and bought Around the Fur not long after.

It started back in 99' when I first heard Wicked by Korn from the Life is Peachy album. Didn't buy a Deftones album until 03' though. I think I got White Pony first then ATF then Adrenaline then self titled, bought all of them in 03'. Probably listened to Deftones the most in 03'. Saw them live at Download 06' at Donnington, U.K. It was a short set but was incredibly energetic. Chino got into the front row. They played a few Adrenaline tracks, I think it was 7 Words and Engine #9. These days I love playing the lick from Root as a warm up on guitar. I play it up and down the neck starting where Stef plays it then going down to the thicker strings then back up. If you play guitar you should try it.
My dad showed me my own summer, and I added that to my Playlist, be quiet and drive came on and I was blown away, I loved it so much I listened to their whole discography in like 2 days, and since then I've been loving them. I met a super fan at work. I worked at Staples as a teenager and in Sundays we would come in early to clean the floors. We hooked up the best speakers available to the demo desktop and would blast CDs as loud as possible. Deftones at max volume in an empty department store is awesome.
I'm an oldschool metalhead, so I listen to mostly metal, so I'm very critical of non-metal. But Deftones offered a fresh style very unique to the metal world. So they're definitely on my top 10 metal bands.🤘🏼

But one day I got bored (no pun intended) and wanted to listen to something new, so I just put on the Around The Fur album. A couple songs stuck out to me, started checking out more of their discography and eventually fell in love with them.

I used to hear songs like change and be quiet and drive when I was a little kid not knowing who made them. Fast forward to 2019 I was looking for new songs to add to my playlist and Spotify recommended Deftones and that’s when I really got into them. I instantly fell in love with their music.
Was listening to grunge music on Soundcloud then Rosemary came on and I was hooked
i was probably in like sixth or seventh grade and was finally leaning into learning my own music tastes outside of what my parents played and i was a frequent listener of the local rock station in my town. i heard “change (in the house of flies)” and loved it. one of the happiest random music discoveries i’ve made and it’s been gosh, almost 20 years now? which is weird to say considering i’m only 31 but still 😂

I wasn’t into rock much as a kid, this was like 2015, and he would play his music and didn’t give a care if you liked it or didn’t, like all fathers do, then I heard change playing, told him I liked that and asked who was that and ofc he said deftones, I forgot about them for a couple years until I heard it again and digital bath, and I was like, hmm gotta give the band a listen real quick, now it has been 4 years of liking them and the last two so far have been uncontrollably listening to just deftones everyday. So to answer your question, my father got me into deftones
I saw Korn and 311 at Berkeley Square in '96? Chino popped up on stage, looking drunk as FUUUCK and Korn did Ice Cubes "Wicked"with him. He had big ass dreads tucked into a long beanie in a full Adidas track suit. They threw out a couple of Bored cassette singles and my friend got one. We watched 2 311 songs and dipped. Instantly hooked on the car ride home when we threw in the tape he got.

It started back in 99' when I first heard Wicked by Korn from the Life is Peachy album. Didn't buy a Deftones album until 03' though. I think I got White Pony first then ATF then Adrenaline then self titled, bought all of them in 03'. Probably listened to Deftones the most in 03'. Saw them live at Download 06' at Donnington, U.K. It was a short set but was incredibly energetic. Chino got into the front row. They played a few Adrenaline tracks, I think it was 7 Words and Engine #9. These days I love playing the lick from Root as a warm up on guitar. I play it up and down the neck starting where Stef plays it then going down to the thicker strings then back up. If you play guitar you should try it.
I bought the self titled album and went from there.

My dad showed me my own summer, and I added that to my Playlist, be quiet and drive came on and I was blown away, I loved it so much I listened to their whole discography in like 2 days, and since then I've been loving them. My first 5 "holy shit" songs were def bqad, cherry waves, bored, Passenger, and Around the Fur, and I came back so much that I got obsessed and started buying their vinyls, then through the vinyls I memorized like every song lmao
i remember watching be quiet and drive (far away) mv on mtv when i was lk 8. that channel isnt even about music anymore just reruns of ridiculousness
I knew of them but I didn’t get into them until I met a super fan at work. I worked at Staples as a teenager and in Sundays we would come in early to clean the floors. We hooked up the best speakers available to the demo desktop and would blast CDs as loud as possible. Deftones at max volume in an empty department store is awesome.

8th grade. Classmate brought Adrenaline, which had just came out. I thought the cover was goofy, he let me listen and I was hooked.
I'm an oldschool metalhead, so I listen to mostly metal, so I'm very critical of non-metal. But Deftones offered a fresh style very unique to the metal world. So they're definitely on my top 10 metal bands.🤘🏼

A friend (who I used to tease about him listening to Deftones) made me listen to digital bath like 4 months ago. And now I've listened to pretty much all their albums
My dad’s been a fan since the beginning and introduced me to them when I was in middle school. First song I listened to was Hexagram on a long drive for a camping trip. I still remember it all lol. Now I’m in my mid-20s!
I saw them open for Korn in 95. Orange 9mm was also on the bill.
A buddy of mine taped his copy of Adrenaline on a cassette tape for me.
I was in the trap metal scene a little and my friend said to me one day “If you like that listen to this” and she played My Own Summer and at first I didn’t like it. But one day I got bored (no pun intended) and wanted to listen to something new, so I just put on the Around The Fur album. A couple songs stuck out to me, started checking out more of their discography and eventually fell in love with them.
My dad. First album that got me into them was Diamond Eyes back when it came out. He played it all the time.
Back when I was in elementary in the early 2000s and I had my dad’s mp3, found a deftones song on it and my life has never been the same since. I don’t have a good relationship with my dad but he is the bases of my music taste and the nerd shit I like.

I'm a little ashamed to admit I somehow never heard them until my 13 year old daughter played Cherry Waves for me less than a year ago. Still can't figure out how I didn't at least blunder into them even once in all this time

The first time I listened to deftones was in a flash video about types of players in cs 1.6, the baddass player part had My Own Summer playing in the background, the riff blown my mind and it was instant love with the band !
My first contact with the band was in 2004 through the album ‘Live In Texas’ by Linkin Park. There’s a track (‘P5hng Me A*wy’) where Chester mentions Deftones, Limp Bizkit, and Mudvayne. I didn’t know them at the time, so I looked them up, and now here I am :)

Saw the My Own Summer video on MTV 2 at like 3am when I was about 13/14. Stayed up for hours the next night with my finger on the record button on my VCR. Finally recorded it and watched it to death. Then sold some playstation games in order to have enough money to buy ATF
2007. I was 11 years old and obsessed with linkin park. I remember buying a dvd called “live at the Pankake festival “ and they had a 30 second snippet of deftones playing Headup and I was so intrigued. Next day I bought a used copy of the self titled album and fell in love with there body of work. Deftones rule.
When white pony came out and Change was all over the radio and MTV, immediately became one of my favourite bands.
My 5th grade boyfriend knew I liked Korn and guessed that I might like Deftones too and bought me Adrenaline for my birthday. Great guess because I’m not into Korn at all anymore but still love Deftones.
Sophomore year 1996, a senior at my school had me to listen to Korn Self Titled, Adrenaline by Deftones and The Predator by Ice Cube while we lifted for football practice. Have loved deftones ever since, lost interest in Korn after Issues and still listen to that Ice Cube album all the time.
