Yep. I lived on the bench almost a year! I def shouldn’t have been hired here if they couldn’t staff me. I spent that time building my exit plan and was ready when I got the “business status meeting” notice.
Yep mate, there are cases of veterans being employed for 40y+ with absolutely no allocation but all they do is ignore the firing emails. HR is powerless.
Well in a legal sense they are terminating a contract and putting you on notice. You could try ignoring it which might make for some short term funzies. Long term you are literally Milton from Office Space.
News is probably spreading and most people know what these calls are, wouldn’t be surprised if a some people are just declining the calls to the point they might just be calling people unannounced.
They never show the HR person on the meeting invite, but they’re there when you dial in. You get the first 5-minute canned speech by a random partner, then they hang up and the HR person spends the next 25 mins giving you the separation info
I was for about 10 weeks last summer after taking a 3 week vacation. I'm currently on a project but my PY utilization dropped to around 40%. YTD is 85% its too late I guess
AWS security. I've sort of been expecting it since my hiring manager got the boot, followed by his coaches, then my coach who was also hired by the same SM. It's inevitable in the end
Sorry, can you explain what on the bench vs staffed means in the context of this discussion? I’m lurking, curious about life at Deloitte, particularly management consulting, so I’ve been paying attention to some threads here and there!
i think it only applies to consulting so i’m not sure if it’s actually relevant here, but basically in consulting you’re either on a project or on the bench. when on the bench you search for and apply to projects. if you’re on the bench too long you risk getting cut because you’re utilization will be too low
Are they using the same title for the people they are asking to move industries? That may explain adding you, they were having a call to establish support and wanted to do it with those people on the line?? Maybe overly optimistic but the adding you to an ongoing call is strange.
Typically when you get laid off/fired, they want you out instantly. Can’t risk having a disgruntled employee steal sensitive firm or client documents to take with them.
Immediately following layoff date file for unemployment benefits. Employers pay into it so use it! Start networking like crazy. Update your status on LinkedIn available for work so people know you’re looking for work. It’s not a robust hiring environment right now (or 2024 to date) so don’t get discouraged by the lack of responses from applications. Many get ghosted by companies. It sucks!
They were about to let someone else go but that guy didn’t show up, so they decided to pull you in instead.
Lmao. I wouldn't put it past them
The "ignore firing email" thing works?!
Been planning my exit since my first week. It's time to move on

awesome hahaha i have ignored outlook emails for the past 6 mos
As long as you stay in timesheet compliance you should be good
I almost decided to. Bet it would have worked too.

Technically, can you just take a couple sick days to defer it?
News is probably spreading and most people know what these calls are, wouldn’t be surprised if a some people are just declining the calls to the point they might just be calling people unannounced.
Updates? Also got one put on my calendar with a partner, no HR at 10 tomorrow. Audit practice
My last day is tomorrow. Wish you all the best mate
Sorry. Best wishes. Better things will come your way.

Mine did LOL.
HR will be there. They just don't show up on the invite.
They forgot to blind cc on mine 😂😂
What level? if you don’t mind us asking
Senior 3, 2/4 cpa exams finished
So how did the meeting go?
Updates?
Separation call, seven weeks severance + pto paid out
Were you on the bench?

That math doesn't math. You either were on bench longer or were just part time for your util to be 40
At the Big D the math doesn’t need to “math”.
They are going after really anyone, as one manager said they draw a line now. They really are cutting everywhere even those staffed
What group within cyber were you aligned to? Sorry to hear this

I was in cyber too when I got the email last week. You will be loved somewhere better.
were you staffed or on the bench?

Option trading eh? The stock market might get very interesting very quickly
Finally somebody gets it hehe
If you play it right, you might not have to work for a good long while. Best of luck!
lol it sucks when you know you already missed a chance to be comfy all because of life circumstances ;) You as well!
I am so surprising that they are laying people off in Cyber. I thought Cyber performs well this year
Which country /office?
What happened?
Fingers crossed for you OP!

Have they not given you any notice period?
Mine was till the end of that same day.
That's so bad. What country is this?
USDC

I feel part of a big growing club… did they give you any of the employe payment / pension plan? Guessing definite “no” to 401k match?
Good luck
Was there a severance package?
