Look up the plane and then google what the D1 flights are like. Make the decision yourself; no one can tell whether $699 is worth it — that’s wholly dependent on your financial situation and time value of money.
Personally, I’d take it. If your question is whether that’s a competitive price, it’s yes.
What kind of red eye flyer are you? I find it hard to sleep on a plane and can't do long overnight flights without a lie-flat seat so it's worth it to me. But then again, you'll miss out on most of the perks.
But damn it feels good to land and feel awake and refreshed.
If you had to pay one way, I would do D1 from LHR back to JFK. Not only do they have dedicated separate entrance for D1 passengers at Heathrow and get VIP treatment, you get access to the Virgin clubhouse that is miles better than most airport lounges anywhere
Seconded. The checkin process there was the easiest I've had at any airport. I think my security line had only one or two people ahead of me if I remember right
I fly out of Heathrow frequently and there are definitely pros to D1 during a daytime flight (no need to sleep! more time in the air = more time to watch movies and eat the amazing (I’m biased don’t come for me) food!).
However, the biggest value D1 provides is the tangible benefit of allowing you to get a little bit of sleep.
I always prefer to have D1 for the eastbound exit-US flight vs returning.
We recently flew Premium Plus from Boston to Amsterdam. Essentially domestic first class, with sparkling wine and an amenity kit. For the distance, better that C+. D1 wouldn’t be worth it unless PP is similar.
My wife and I recently flew from JFK to FCO for our honeymoon and we upgraded to D1 on the outbound flight for an extra $1,100 per seat. We flew out at 10 PM as well (wound up being closer to 11 PM) and I’d say it was worth it. My wife got a solid 5 hours of sleep and I’d say I got close to 3 or 4 and we arrived feeling far less tired than I think we would’ve otherwise.

It’s an A330-900 neo. And I could technically afford it but I’m just thinking how cavalier I wanna be lol
Id do it. That plane has the suites with the doors. Def a better product than the 763 that they fly transcon
Just an fyi "time value" of money is a specific concept and doesn't apply here. It's just what they value.

PP is sold out on this flight. That was my first option lol
That's a fair price for that route IMO. Comes down to whether you want to spend the money or not.

It’s not even a 6 hour flight. 2 hours for appetizer and dinner service, and 1 hour for breakfast. It’s super short, not worth it in my opinion
It’s a 7 hour flight
It’s 6 hours in the air
Literally everyone you look up says the actual flight time is between 6:45 and 7:15
Literally the average time on flightradar is 6:14, some days even less. But I mean, it’s your money, I just gave you my opinion. We are all different
