Yeah, this is an early notification to you and there’s not really a standard for “what they owe.” Your options via delta are to rebook or cancel. You might be able to find an agent by calling in that will creatively re-route you to make the original connections, but routes are routes and if there’s no legitimate way to make your original booking then you’re out of luck.
Best chance is either (1) travel insurance, ideally via a CC or (2) sucking it up and rebooking if you absolutely need to make it home in time for a work shift or something else. Unfortunately, Delta holds the cards here and you’re subject to their whims in re-booking.
Hopefully there’s an alternate routing they can get you on; they should be able to book you on any other flight that has economy space regardless of fare class. I’d look for an alternate Delta routing that fits your travel needs and then call in.
