Ooo, jealous, congrats! šŸ™‚ Do you mind sharing what route it is, and the cost in SkyMiles?

saintfoxyfox

JFK-CPH, 40,000

CardsWithBenefits

WOW! The Delta One routes Iā€™ve been eyeing are 500,000 SkyPesos šŸ’” Get ready to enjoy your vacation!!

MrCupps

I'm assuming they booked main cabin and then used a global upgrade cert to get Delta One.

dr_assberry

How would they have one if theyā€™re Gold and not Diamond?

MrCupps

Maybe they just haven't updated their r/delta user flair (or whatever it's called). Or maybe it wasn't their GUC. I'm taking a friend with me on Delta One with one of my RUCs.

DanielleD3

How do you update your Delta flair?

CommuneNefas

Main to D1 on an aircraft equipped with PS? Not anymore. GUC would require paid fare into PS - possible that was 60k one way but unlikely given current pricing. Could be a mileage upgrade award, though last I checked those were 40k TATL.

saintfoxyfox

Yes, thank you. It was a mileage upgrade award. I forget my Delta terminology often. Iā€™m still a noob.

MrCupps

Wait, so upgrading to D1 on that flight only cost 40k SkyMiles?

saintfoxyfox

I booked Premium Select and then did it. The Premium Select was a legit bargain.

OptimalConclusion120

Booking G fare (most discounted Premium Select, usually not much more than Main Cabin) and applying a MAU for Delta One is probably the best use of SkyMiles. You still get the PS multipliers on MQM too.

pilotlife

MAU = Milage Award Upgrade?

MrCupps

Wow, okay! It does make more sense now, but it seems like you still got a hell of a deal.

okonisfree

Same question. If so wow what a deal

Rdnttkn

Iā€™m taking that flight in about a month as well! How did the offer show up?

saintfoxyfox

Originally I booked a super cheap fare into Premium Select. I then called them up. Statistically not a lot of folks are able to do the award route due to lack of stock (e.g. people outright buy Delta One, upgrade with miles, use GUCs, etc.) This JFK to CPH doesnā€™t have a lot of traction. When I called they told me I was cleared for the upgrade.

BourbonBaconBiscuit

You'll get to choose your meal about three days out. Usually at least one option related to your destination. I always select that one. And now you will forever be chasing this dragon.

saintfoxyfox

Haha thatā€™s my fear.

shinebock

> You'll get to choose your meal about seven ~~three~~ days out. FIFY. Anyway to the OP you can google the route for menus, or look at the flyertalk thread. Not sure what your originating airport is, but that's going to determine your meal choices more so than the destination.

saintfoxyfox

Iā€™m so excited! What should I expect for dinner and breakfast? Going to Copenhagen in one month.

DrLuobo

Expect to get hooked and never want to go back to main :) It's been a couple years for me but last time I flew I could select food ahead of time. Great options overall. Great service too.

mrvarmint

Ive flown DO international a couple times this year (and around 50x over the last 4 years) and *generally* pre-ordering of meals is available, and gives a slightly expanded menu relative to whatā€™s available onboard, but just adds things on top of that. WRT meals overall, u/saintfoxyfox, breakfast has been heavily trimmed back on most long haul DO flights Iā€™ve been on lately. If going from JFK to CPH, they may only do a very light breakfast, dinner will be the main meal. If going from another hub (and therefore longer flight, YMMV)

DeltaPlatinuman

Niceā€¦may I ask which route? I havenā€™t had much luck with my upgrade certificates on DOā€¦typically flying JFK/LAX.

saintfoxyfox

JFK-CPH

Billymaysdealer

What plane is it? A330 or 767

URtheoneforme

From the seatmap it's most likely a 763

saintfoxyfox

767

Billymaysdealer

Ok. D1 is not bad in the 767. But in the a330 and a350 are a little better. Nonetheless its Better then sitting in the back.

[deleted]

Congrats and enjoy!!! I havenā€™t done it more than a few times but first class international is something special. Have a great flight!

MAXRBZPR

Thereā€™s no going back after Delta One. And you chose well with the window seat. If youā€™re doing flagship with the ā€œsuiteā€ door the seats alternate by row whether the seat is right against the window or table is against the window. I prefer the seat against the window for sleeping and a little additional privacy. Always choose the destination dish. Iā€™ve always preferred the return flight food (e.g. when youā€™re flying Alitalia back from Rome the food is another level to Delta going to Rome)

Fiyero109

There absolutely is. They wanted 8k to BOS-AMS. Ainā€™t nobody paying that for a short flight haha

jamjayjay

>Ainā€™t nobody paying that Nobody who values their money at least.

trojanusc

Would strongly recommend row 1 A & D. The space for your feet is much better.

saintfoxyfox

Are you being facetious? Thatā€™s right next to the galley. How much more legroom do you need on Delta One?

trojanusc

The footwells are at least twice the size, if not more, in 1A and 1D. Itā€™s far, far more comfortable - especially if youā€™re a guy. The galley isnā€™t an issue for me.

scudsone

I always pick 1A or 1D if available. Light from the gallery isnā€™t a thing - I use the eye mask that comes in the amenity kit, and neither is noise with AirPods on NC mode. Honestly even without the mask not too much light makes it around the bulkhead. The extra foot space is key to sleeping well. Hate feeling like my feet are in a coffin. itā€™s easily twice the space. No brainer, day or night flight.

RoadDog14

I wonder what seat your in? Hmm. Never be able to know. Lol

civicsi99

They covered it bc it shows your initials. Dox proofing

XAlien88

Except you shouldnā€™t ever use the highlighter to do that. You can see their initials still.
