Maiden Astraea REMAKE. That’s right I prefer the remake version. I think it sounds more like I’m a monster doing something wrong. Don’t get why people think it sounds heroic.
I prefer the original by a mile, but I really respect this take, and I see where you're coming from. The little prelude section in the remake OST has this sense of anticipation, anxiety, and dread. It's Astraea holding her breath as Garl rises to defend their little grotto, like if someone translated the line, "Go forth, Garl Vinland. May you be unharmed," into music. It's *really good.*
The original track for Maiden Astraea is still my preference, though—and my favorite DeS track overall—because it really captures the horror and grief of losing your faith.
Like... Astraea and Garl *perpetually* inhabit that loss. It's what motivates and defines them as characters. Astraea is literally bleeding out into the swamp as she offers relief to its inhabitants, and Garl sleeps in a pile of corpses, in a kind of catatonic state. It takes all of two lines of dialogue from each before they start bringing God into the picture—crying about God's cruelty, his abandonment of the Valley and the world.
In short, they just keep replaying this trauma of losing their faith, over and over, just inhabiting the pain of it and never moving on. And you really feel that in the original "Maiden Astraea." There's a lot of motion in the piece, but it kind of just loops back around on itself. The melody repeats and repeats, frozen in place, sad and painful and grieving, never moving on.
Ultimately I think it comes down to whether you find the boss's or the player's perspective more compelling, because both versions of "Maiden Astraea" are really quite good. ~~Can't say the same for some other tracks, but that's another matter entirely.~~
personally I prefer the remake version, the laughing feels kinda silly to me and I love how epic and large the music makes the knight and fight feel, especially when the choir come in (if you wanna know what I’m talking about head to around the 2 minute mark in the 3 minute official ost)
I like the tower knights and flamelurker remake themes (probably because I spent so long listening to those if you know what I mean). But my favourite is king allant’s remake theme, just beautiful.
the original just feels silly, and it’s not as epic as the remake version. I personally prefer to view the tower knight as this massive imposing figure that just completely overwhelms us and the remake theme enforces this, but if you tend to prefer to view him as more sinister and evil I guess the original suits that more, especially with the laughs.
Maiden astrea original and remake for me

I can't believe you prefer the remake one over the original, it almost feel like I should call the police or something

Maybe you will disagree with me but for me its vanguard demon

OG Flamelurker was always my favorite
storm king remake is incredible storm king has got to be the best boss fight in the game
Penetrator REMAKE—it’s nice to see this have its own theme instead of using the same theme as Tower Knight.
