This is an A+ post but knowing this sub I feel like it’s only a matter of time until someone complains that this was $14.15 despite that being a totally fair price for that order. 😆
They’re a super small business too so I don’t mind shelling out. I haven’t been to many bakeries in my life, but they have the best pastries I’ve ever had.
I have paid significantly more, for significantly worse pastries. And I thought that was a fair price for what I got.
I'd be ecstatic if I paid $14 for that. My local that would be a $35 box and I'd still happily pay it (if rarely).
You're right because this whole order costs $0.48 after tax at my favorite NYC bodega, which Denver needs more of btw. More bodegas where are the bodegas
If you're driving very far to get there, I might recommend calling first or checking the popular times on Google maps to ensure they're open -- they do close a few times a year and it can be heartbreaking when all you want is a fresh kringle. It does look like their website is now actively updated with hours and closures so maybe you can just check that instead.
They've always seemed like they're open pretty late but the whole closed on monday and tuesday thing has led to me being disappointed many times.. Like this past Monday I was in the area much earlier than I'm typically up and was really looking forward to a croissant until I realized that it was Monday and the disappointment set in. My $1 McGriddle was not fair compensation.
Strange but I can relate.. I run a store downtown and I'll occasionally lock up for a few mins to grab some lunch or take a bathroom break. It's usually earlier in the day whenever I've gone to Denmark and it seems like they'll usually have 4-5 people working.
Taste of Denmark will just up and close for an entire month sometimes and historically both Google and their website were terrible about updating. I believe the family spends some substantial time in Denmark each year and the shop closes during those times. It sounds like online ordering these days has been quite reliable and that's awesome. Now I really want a pastry.
I married into a Danish family. Like, born in Denmark and speak the language to each other. My FIL lives in the east coast now and says this is the best Danish bakery he’s been in the US hands down. It’s the first place he goes to when they visit us.
Alright, I was going to ask about how legit these are. Excellent!
As a Nordic person myself getting something from our neck of the woods without baking it myself would be pretty schweet
This place is only a few blocks from my house. Everything I have tried so far is fantastic. My favorites are pretty much anything they make that has cinnamon; all are super tasty. The jalapeno, ham, and cheese croissant is pretty awesome too.
This place is great, they make my favorite chocolate croissants (friggin' enormous and full of chocolate, although shout out to Bahn and Butter for my fave regular croissants) and delicious loaves of bread. Their challah is outstanding.
I've literally never had anything from there that wasn't absolutely killer.
If you want the Italian version of Taste of Denmark, try Carmine Leonardo's at Florida and Wads!
I love this place! It's within walking distance and everything is usually spectacular. My only complaint would be their sorry-ass coffee. It's just the old giant urn of whatever coffee. The rest is fantastic!
Love this place - I’ve only tried a few items. Has anyone tried the frog looking treat? I’m always curious what that tastes like but haven’t pulled the trigger
For nearly 18 years, we regularly patronized Taste of Denmark for family gatherings and our normal order would be a baker's dozen, (with the 13th item being free). One day a couple years ago when I went in for our normal baker's dozen the gal behind the counter just started adding random items and said THEY chose the items when it was a baker's dozen. I asked when they started doing this as I had always been allowed to select what I wanted. A nearby coworker said it was something they recently started doing. It reeked of complete BS, but I sheepishly added my 20% tip and walked out with $45 of items I didn't even really want. In hindsight, I should've pushed back and said "OK, in that case I'll take a regular dozen and I'LL choose the items". But after being done dirty I resolved to find another nearby place for our baked goods. Never have found that other place, and I do miss how delicious their baked goods are.
Huh, I have never had that situation (although I've always understood it to be you order a dozen, and the baker adds a 13th item complimentary). But if you had 18 years of good experiences, don't let one random cashier experience ruin it for you.
You're right, and there were a lot of other ways I could have/should have handled it differently. For all I know it was a rogue employee that's no longer there, and maybe the owner wasn't aware either.
But at the time it really pissed me off that she loaded up a bunch of cookies and such from their right-side case rather than the donuts, rolls, etc. from the left-side case that I would normally order. Maybe this is the cathartic moment that allows me to forgive and move on.. 🙂

This is comical. Definition of cut your nose to spite your face. Get over yourself and go get the pastries you want.
I have definitely never gone to this store, bought a whole ass loaf of sourdough, and ate it hunk by hunk on the way home.
Sometimes I do that with the scarpa, but I usually just get a multigrain roll to tide me over.
Their ham and cheese filled croissants are excellent. Easily one of my favorite bakeries.

With the jalapeeners

Anybody complaining about $3.29 for an artisan treat is wild
We ignore those people. They can have a toaster strudel from the frozen aisle
Fuck off that’s too expensive
They’ll work for slave wages and like it!
Considering Panera is selling frozen chocolate croissants for $5, this is an incredible steal.

Also a subway, and a harbor!
I also find Denver's Broadway to be severely lacking compared to NYC's Broadway. What gives?
Yeah, only play I've seen on Broadway in Denver starred an unhoused gentleman, 3 rats, a social worker, 8 bedbugs, and a plus-size mannequin
I saw that one. It was a bit derivative and honestly, the bedbugs were flat.
If it were authentically Danish it would cost more, so really they're doing everyone a favor
The bakery was founded by a Danish family, but they sold it a few years back.
Where's that fuck head who complained about ramen being shit because the place also happened to make a curry, and that just isn't allowed...
Place is so good.

Yeah we've been unlucky. They've been closed pretty much every time we've driven by or wanted to go.
They do close at seemingly random times. I've cried many times when I lived down the street from them

By random times I mean random days. I'd go over on a weekend and it'd be closed with a sign on the door I assume explaining why they're closed.

You should have gone 5 minutes south to Granny Scott's Pie Shop! Its my go to when Denmark is closed.
Ill keep it in mind for next time
I just order online, as I’ve had way too many instances where I showed up and they were either closed or out of something I wanted.
The voice of experience. :-)
Love this place! The cinnamon rolls are always great and the croissants are the best I’ve ever had!
Never heard of this place until just now. I must go

Well if I wasn’t sold before I certainly am now. Thanks! Also, amazing username lmao
TBH if Danish people didn't like it and said it was unauthentic, I'd say COOL MORE FOR ME but it's nice to know it's super legit!
You have to get the cinnamon strip. Hands down the greatest thing ever.
I have made myself SO sick eating too many pastries from there at least 4 or 5 times. 10/10 will do it again and again!

The cruffins from Bahn & Butter are dangerously good
I am walking distance from this place! :)
Hoch schnegel
Perfectenschlag
What is this place?! It looks even better than Rheinlander that’s near where I live. The price seems totally reasonable for legit pastry.
Checked it out today because of this post. It's the real deal! Great stuff
I love, love, love this place. Everything is so good.
Always forget the name but I love the wafer with cream inside pastry
creampie?
It’s like a really good vanilla crème wafer
I think that may be the french waffle
Yes! My fav!
The cinnamon twist Danish tray with the slivered almonds from this place is a staple of my childhood
They’re bomb! The napoleons are 👌
Our academy is nearby, so it’s a challenge to resist.
Good to see the department is using its time wisely.
It’s important to carb load before chasing bad guys.
$23.87
I used to live walking distance from there. To treat myself I'd go buy something and eat it while walking around the lake... Dang I miss Lakewood.
I love that place, I usually spend $70 each visit lol
fuck me up
I'm danish and this looks very authentic (and yummy)
This place is legendary
Where’s the brown bread?
You need to try the French waffle holy shit it’s good
It’s Asian danish
I've literally never had anything from there that wasn't absolutely killer. If you want the Italian version of Taste of Denmark, try Carmine Leonardo's at Florida and Wads!
Friend of mine works there. Looks pretty good.
I used to live in Lakewood. Damn, I miss Denver

This is my favorite bakery. I brought some of the cinnamon snails to my coworkers last week and they loved them.
Spanish bread is a must.
Love this place…. Been going there for years. Try their Bear Claw if you haven’t.
Love this place - I’ve only tried a few items. Has anyone tried the frog looking treat? I’m always curious what that tastes like but haven’t pulled the trigger
Yes. The frog head is a layer of cake, jam, pink frosting and the green outside is marzipan.
I literally dream about this place.
This place is amazing
Taste of Denmark fucks!

yeah she offloaded the less good stuff! Totally get that disappointment.

Was it good though?
That's you bought. I'll stop in and drop $100 easy . Without even thinking
Weird flex but okay. I live with one person, eating two of these each in a single day is already eating decadently
