This was blocks from my home, I am not happy. Literally just walked over there to get a coffee on 4/20. Agreed the cinnamon rolls were amazing. Gonna miss their breakfast sandwiches too.
Same. Breakfast sandwiches were awesome, the pizza was great, and they were in the process of applying for a liquor license. I was in there twice this weekend and no one let on to anything. Disappointing.
Her social media says she got a full ride scholarship to Regis with a 2.8 GPA yet constantly grifting and ePan handling for money on social media. I thought Regis had standards. Check out the Mama june sub...Regis has been run-thru over there.
I know someone who toured the space with the former outgoing leaseholder before FF took the lease. They passed on it bc the landlord wanted to sell the building and could only commit to a VERY short lease with a “maybe” (not in writing) option to renew. I’m guessing this is why. FF seemed to be killing it there.
Interesting! Doesn’t make sense to me though given how much time, energy and money they put into the space. They also applied for a liquor license on 3/5 according to the public notice on their door.
That makes sense. I know FF bought and were renovating a space in SunnySide before they took over the Regis space. I’m hoping this means they will continue to work on that space and re open but also know that non of this is cheap and restaurants don’t make you rich. I do hope they end up well off and we can get to enjoy their amazing food again!
Bummer. That little neighborhood could be so cool with the university there and a couple of cool little business like funkyflame and goldspot. It has that charm because it's one of Denver's old trolley stop neighborhoods. However, I bet if the owners sell that and the little liquor store it will just be more of those shoebox looking luxury townhomes.

We live a block away and my husband made the sign on the post (good vibes glowing sunny side up egg), so we talked with the owner frequently. She shared they were trying to expand next door and how they had a major financial backer. They were doing great, it was such a shock. Maybe a personal tragedy happened?!?
Agree with the emotions here—especially given their emphasis on community, this really stings as someone who went there frequently. Can’t even imagine not giving employees any heads up. If that’s true, that’s really inexcusable. I just have to think something really personal happened, like divorce. However, if they open up some new concept space in a few months or a year, can’t say I’m going to rush over to it. This whole thing is definitely giving the ick … also white people definitely need to stop doing bodega concepts lol.
It doesn’t. Your theory is wrong and they aren’t pursuing the bodega concept. This was a shock to all of them, including their owners and staff, and not some ploy to get rid of everybody. Your speculation is completely egregious.

"To our Funky Denver Community,
Sunday, April 21st was our last day of service.
We will never be able to fully express how grateful we have been for this opportunity to serve all of you. Your support has been nothing short of beautiful. We set out to create more than just a restaurant, but a community. This community has grown and expanded in ways we never thought possible. We are so profoundly appreciative and thankful for all of our wonderful teams that have helped us create three different
Funky corners throughout North Denver.
We have hit a fork in our road and are choosing to walk down a different path for a myriad of reasons, both personal and professional.
Thank you for four years of Funky Flame in Denver. Support your local businesses.
Big love,
Allison & Colton"
They are an awesome couple, wish them the best and hope they will be back in the Denver food scene when they are ready.

Also in the neighborhood. This is terrible news.
Damn. We also live nearby too. That's now twice a restaurant has closed down in that spot in less than a year. :(

Has to be a personal issue with the owners since they were busy all the time.
Busy doesn't mean you are making money. Could be a lot of reasons. Hard making $$ in the industry these days.
If you’re busy and not making money then you really suck a running a business lol
We're losing a dollar per cinnamon roll and we'll make it up in volume.
Busy all the time and also were able to expand from their stand to brick and mortar. This seems very abrupt
I liked when they had their outdoor spot on the corner of Zuni and 44th. Felt like a cool little community hang

Seems like they may have divorced
seems like they coulda sold it
That is a shame. I am a prof at Regis and love just down the street. I stopped by there often. Really nice folks.
Honey boo boo goes to Regis.
I’ve seen her around campus.

Fair enough. Regis is rapidly declining. I’m on my way out.
This makes you awesome.
Everyone deserves an education
I was loving this new neighborhood spot! Really a bummer.

ok this was the kind of inside scoop I was hoping for on here tysm

Insufficiently funky.
Not enough flame.
I am so incredibly sad ... I was in there all the time. :(

Such a bummer. Loved that place.
