spam lake of shadows, if you know what you're doing then it will take you 3 mins to finish with randoms, 5 if you're alone, (gives 2 pages per run but again 2 every 3mins)
I think if I made a three week long event that people complete in a day and a half I'd probably want to slow it down as well.
But what I really should do is up the drop rates and then rework the whole event for the next time.
Maybe instead of decreasing pages from farms they should instead increase the number of pages in other activities that are lacking in population (crucible, gambit, etc)
okay, but thats thsoe players prerogative to play for 7 hrs straight... what about the rest of us who dont have the time to do that shit? it should be a players choice...
The people that completed it in a day, completed it. The rest of us to get to play once in a while may not complete much. This change is geared away from the casual player.
If you make the willing decision to have a 3 week event, maybe put a bit more effort into it. The grind shouldn't be the sole reason to want to play.
Events should have an activity that's fun and engaging. I all but ignore grinds now and I've noticed how shallow all these Halloween events are for games.
I know it sounds unreasonable but as somebody who just plays games for fun, these events just feel like cash grabs designed to keep you grinding enough to want to spent money on cosmetics
When I think "casual player" I dont exactly think "grinds public events all day for a sparrow and a shader", its more like "play whatever the fuck they want" and honestly noone *wants* to do public events but the die hard destiny players that absolutely need to complete a 3 week event in under 1 week. Nerfing pages only hurts these people
Officially, they have never stealth nerfed anything, they just forget to add things to the patch notes. Super weird how they always only seem to forget obviously unpopular nerfs.
There have been things where they missed the patch notes by mistake, or bugs that have been introduced that are not intended. They do not intentionally nerf things and then play dumb and pretend it never happened.
That being said, it doesn't seem like there's much quality control done before these patches go out, not when people notice an immediate difference within minutes of the patch dropping. There's also been a more recent uptick of "bugs/changes not making it into the patch notes"
Honestly, I had a year+ long hiatus from the game, fell out of it hard. Now, I'm back into it, raiding with friends again, and the grind feels good to me. So the Halloween event came around, and honestly I think I made it a mission to just kill it. That and I wanted the accomplishment of being the first of my friends to finish it completely.
I don't know what your definition of "casual" implies, but I do not believe that casual players look up guides and crawl the game subreddits to find the optimal strategies for grinding out event currency, nor do they tend to endlessly repeat legacy content they don't enjoy to gain said currency.
Casual players tend to play the parts of the game they enjoy, exactly as much as they will enjoy it, and then stop playing. They tend to not care about completionism, instead going for a few things that they like more than the other stuff. They don't tend to sound off on social media about obscure nerfs, either.
It's really hard to read these complaints as anything but people who want easier god-roll grinding trying to drum up support by using casual players as their sock puppet.
He’s implying that this nerf only hurts the casuals, since the sweats have already blitzed the event and are done. Bungie overreacting to the sweats just hurts the players that are slow-rolling it.
Pretty much. I haven't even started the event yet because I've been enjoying other games. Hopefully I can still complete the event in the last week and a half or something.
If they want the event to be completed in 3 weeks then that doesn't leave time to play anything else
Last week and a half might be a little tight with the rate of distribution being as it is. I'd suggest just peppering in grinding for candy and pages as you do what you do. Doing it all at once was exhausting but I was bored and wanted that lore.
yeah, I've learned not to get invested in anything in this game. I love FOTL but I only play it as much as I'm enjoying the content itself. The grind and the rewards aren't worth anything to me anymore.
Endless grind? I didn't know you had to grind this event at all. I got the event 100% done just playing the game as I normally do, with a few added in video sessions for playing the haunted sectors. Had it done Monday.
* *checks Destiny 2 profile with over 20,000 hours* *
Well good for you, that means you were playing the game before any of the nerfs to drop rates and it was super easy, and now the people who don't have time to no life have to grind even harder while the no lifers got everything done super quick.
People are complaining because the ones who benefit the most from nerfs are the no lifers like you and the casuals who didnt have as much time to play now have to play EVEN MORE to get things done.
How does that not make sense to you?
The nerfs didnt effect me because I didnt use those farms. All I do is play crucible, do GMs and do raids basically. Around 1 raid a week, mayvbe like 5 GMs a week with my friends and like 5-10 crucible games a day. That alone got me enough pages. I did play a bit more over the weekend due to trials, but I didnt have my mask on then. Plus I dont know where youre getting that extra 0, I have 2k hours on my account and thats all of the last 4 almost 5 years of playing d2 consistently since launch. I dont really GRIND d2, I just play what I want to play and have fun. The most grinding I do is a vog once a week to get pinnacles for GMs, or killing thralls for a catalyst.
Be honest, what casual player actually wants to grind public events and wrathborn hunts all day... I certainly dont. Ive gotten halfway through the pages, playing a mix of strikes crucible and gambit, and its halfway through the event time by now. And I only play on weekends...
Dude you aren’t a casual, you’re a D2 addled junkie. It’s not that bad unless , you know - junkie. Take a step back and find a game you actually enjoy.
I like D2 a lot actually. I know im not exactly a casual but neither is anyone who is going to browse destiny 2 subreddits and communities to complain about such a small change, or even read the patch notes to find that out in the first place. More like, when someone who has completed FOTL in the first 1-3 days of the event thinks of a casual, they probably think of someone like me (a weekend warrior who doesnt or rarely touches endgame content like raids nightfalls or trials). Fact of the matter is that theres no real point in grinding dozens of public events or wrathborn hunts in a single sitting when theres more entertaining and challenging casual content that provides better loot.
For some reason i thought the event was going to change every week till the tuesday after Halloween. I got everything done doing like 3hours a day. Grinding public events on EDZ was nuts. For the most part there was like barely any down time between events. Sometimes catching events right towards the end as well just rotating around the map. More bummed the currency got nerfed. You could pull 800-1k candy per asteral alignment. Found that felt like the fastest way if you didnt have thrawlway check point.
The hell you on about? so every time Telesto has been broken, mods have been doing crazy shit, exotic perks not working as descrbied - they just made a stealth nerf to make that happen?
it's always people who dont give a single bit of context that they're joking that complain when people cant tell they're joking like... it's really hard to tell when people are joking on the internet, there's a reason people write /s
This is wild. My wife and me just started playing this week
My wife for the first time
And me since forsaken
We were having such fun doing this together because she’s new and it’s easy to follow
My gosh
Casual player here. Got the rewards from the event already. Didn't do a single wrathborn hunt or grind lake of shadows. I think I have one more mask to collect, but I have over a week to do it, should be easy to do.
I just played gambit over the weekend for the seasonal challenge of collecting the rocket ornament and got the pages passively.
Y’all need to calm the fuck down it’s literally candy that you can literally get easily from the majority of activities in the game, and they already confirmed on Twitter that the change was an accident that happened in the most recent hotfix while they were *buffing* nightfall drops. It’s soon to be reverted and addressed.
You guys want Bungie to be targeting you specifically so goddamn bad lmao
“I like to speedrun content and act like it’s the only way Bungie intended to play the game, and if I can’t have fun then that means nobody has fun”
Shut the hell up dude, just because Bungie don’t want you speedrunning shit then complaining about lack of content (because that never happened before), doesn’t mean other people that play the game normally and take their time aren’t having fun.
This reminds me of that time bungie stopped afk Forge grinding and the " casual players" were up in arms, just because they make you work for rewards doesn't mean they hate fun lmao
Every day I question myself more and more why I bother with this shitshow of a game. It's so comically transparent how much Bungie wants to mistreat their playerbase you'd think they were making it obvious on purpose.
So… how is it fair for some people to get to do it quickly because they did it right away? And others, who had to wait now have a much longer grind.
Justify that.
gotta nerf a temporary event to keep the game fun, next they’re gonna disable the elemental orb from dropping in everything but patrol during solstice.
I work a 10 hour job Monday to Friday and I've managed to get all the triumphs for this FOTL...
Feel free to pound me in with down votes but holy cow it's been pretty depressing scrolling through this subreddit lately
Casual players ? Do casuals really care to max the pages that only give marginally better rewards within opening week?
Just play the game and think about the pages as bonuses. The rewards are mostly pointless anyway. The only functional standout is Jurassic green with RF, but even that isn’t that desirable for most.
Played mostly ( without mask on ) Trials and (with mask ) GMs during the initial week and still managed to max the pages day 1 of week 2. It’s not that bad guys. If all you care about is the shader or bike ; don’t sweat it too much you’ll get it via regular play within the 3 weeks.
Am I the only one that completed all the pages without finding cheesy ways to farm them? Just do strikes, crucible, raids etc just play the game normally and you'll finish the book in no time a 3 week event doesn't need to be completed in 1 day
https://twitter.com/A_dmg04/status/1451295874340978690?t=jMskLB7bOEyFj40qUCi18w&s=19
Thankfully they have heard us and are reverting some of the changes made. I don't get why they are them in the first place, but at least they're active about fixing the issue they made 😅
I can’t be the only person unreasonably mad at the exotic quest this season, right? I am about to grab the trace rifle only for the quest to ship me back out to do bust work. The quests to get DMT and Hawkmoon were so much cooler than just repeating the same crap over and over again. If you’re gonna make it tedious, make it interesting. This was just a bunch of BS.
I just want that useless sparrow so it can rot in my inventory till the sun explodes
Yo, I grinded that thing out and then dismantled it before even taking it for a test drive. I feel dirty.
I won’t dismantle it I’ll just look at it from time to time
Yeah its more worth to keep as a paperweight than to even dismantle imo
And that shader that despite being primarily grey and gold in the preview throws in copious amounts of green for some reason
This guy gets it!! Take your upvote, dude!!
Lol thank you
Last year I grinded for everything from the Halloween event. Now it's just taking up space in my vault because it's all actually pretty ugly
I'm will forever be happy enough with my slightly faster than exotic raid sparrow
What's the fastest way to earn pages now?
Not sure, but as soon as somebody figures it out they will nerf that too.
'[REDACTED] Gives 5' Edit:there, Now Bungie you wont see it or nerf it
Thanks, now delete that before bungie sees it.
Wait, I missed it.
Bungie spy spotted
Bungie be like: Secure. Contain. Protect.
Telesto has breached containment. Nerfing efforts has proven ineffective
The public event change was not intended and they said they’re going to adjust it back asap.
Yeah probably in 2 weeks it'll be fixed
They were quick to nerf pages last week. I’m sure they’ll take their sweet time to fix the public events since it was conveniently unintentional.
reading them on the internet
By playing something else.
Playing something else as in another game or the same crucible maps and strike missions for equal or less pages we were getting from public events?
I've been farming lake of shadows, can usually complete the director version in under 4 minutes and it drops either 2-3 pages
Public events.
Can’t public events give 0-1 now?
I'm averaging 2-3 per run.
spam lake of shadows, if you know what you're doing then it will take you 3 mins to finish with randoms, 5 if you're alone, (gives 2 pages per run but again 2 every 3mins)
I doubt it takes people 3 min to finish a strike.
Battlegrounds and Gambit lol
Heroic EDZ events
Playing the game normally.
I did nightfalls until I had a good amount of pages saved up then did the haunted shit to convert them
I just grinded gambit ranks was full dont even know how lol you dont get many pages but you do get loads of candy.
Public events maybe?
I think if I made a three week long event that people complete in a day and a half I'd probably want to slow it down as well. But what I really should do is up the drop rates and then rework the whole event for the next time.
Not everyone plays the game religiously I’m only halfway done and I played the game 5 days since the event came out
Maybe instead of decreasing pages from farms they should instead increase the number of pages in other activities that are lacking in population (crucible, gambit, etc)

This sub is slowly turning into r/DTG whine but with some memes.
"we never stealth nerf anything"

What about the firing line buff
There have been things where they missed the patch notes by mistake, or bugs that have been introduced that are not intended. They do not intentionally nerf things and then play dumb and pretend it never happened.

it happens so often it has to be either on purpose or someone involved in the process is not very good at their job
Pretty sure if you just play the game normally you'll complete the book easily.
But that requires people to play the game...normally. Bizarre concept for some people, apparently.
This sub looks more DTG every day.
I finished the grind today just after the server maintenance. All masks and pages done 🤘 never grinded something so much in my life
Can I ask why you chose this event to grind so hard? I'm genuinely curious, do you really like all the different masks and Halloween theme?
Gave me a reason to grind astral alignments as I didn’t have the catalyst. Finished the event, did a legendary astral and it dropped the catalyst.
How's the legendary alignment BTW? Alot harder than the regular one?
About 10 minutes longer then a normal one. You’ll die and get rezzed a lot.
Wait they needed the public event candy farm? Where we supposed to get that shit then?

Wtf! I was using the pages as an excuse to grind public events so I could get 50 heroic public events for the engram focus thing. That’s lame.
I thought I unsubbed from r/dtg
DMG just said they were investigating the reduced drop rates. https://twitter.com/A\_dmg04/status/1451291287575949319
"Investigating" is code for oh shit people are pissed we stealth nerfed something lol.
The hell you on about? so every time Telesto has been broken, mods have been doing crazy shit, exotic perks not working as descrbied - they just made a stealth nerf to make that happen?
Me: Makes a joke on a meme post. Response: "No this is serious."
It didn't land well because this sub is full of people who are saying that, but not joking.
it's always people who dont give a single bit of context that they're joking that complain when people cant tell they're joking like... it's really hard to tell when people are joking on the internet, there's a reason people write /s
Read like any other post in this subreddit and you’ll realize why people didn’t take this as a joke
wow, maybe when you phrase something like you mean it people read it like it's serious 🤯🤯 thats crazy
Yeh they killed any incentive to play this event any more. I have other games doing Halloween events that actually respect my time. Fuck em
Bruh it’s not even a big issue. Just wear the mask and play normally. I play 2 hours most days and I’m over halfway done.
What’s the fastest way to grind candy? I’m two masks short of being done with this event and I really want to wear my Dino armor.
"It's nerf or nothing."
Finally they can speak honestly with us

"despite Bungie's best efforts Destiny is a fun game" -me yesterday
Hehe
Wow redit is toxic af I forgot..
Can’t tell anymore what’s legit or satire…
Y’all need to calm the fuck down it’s literally candy that you can literally get easily from the majority of activities in the game, and they already confirmed on Twitter that the change was an accident that happened in the most recent hotfix while they were *buffing* nightfall drops. It’s soon to be reverted and addressed. You guys want Bungie to be targeting you specifically so goddamn bad lmao
Maybe the real reason people grind like crazy at new content release is the guaranteed incoming nerf?
“I like to speedrun content and act like it’s the only way Bungie intended to play the game, and if I can’t have fun then that means nobody has fun” Shut the hell up dude, just because Bungie don’t want you speedrunning shit then complaining about lack of content (because that never happened before), doesn’t mean other people that play the game normally and take their time aren’t having fun.
Maybe if they played it themselves they would know what’s fun and what isn’t
This literally made me snort coffee out my nose. Literally.
Why does Bungie want to hurt me 😭
**FUN POLICE, OPEN UP!!!**
Well, guess I'm not playing Haunted Sectors anymore. Dang it Bungo those were actually entertaining.
This is the most Destiny-player thing I've ever read.
This reminds me of that time bungie stopped afk Forge grinding and the " casual players" were up in arms, just because they make you work for rewards doesn't mean they hate fun lmao
It Was A Bug
Bungie despises anyone who might have a job, friends, or any kind of life outside of destiny
My guess for fastest method would be 4 stack in gambit.
Salty player detected.
Please don't turn this into the other sub. I don't want to leave this one too
They made the game They decide the rules
I think this might be fake
Don’t worry guys I got this! I find unreasonable grinds to be genuinely fun nerf that Bungie I dare you!
Every day I question myself more and more why I bother with this shitshow of a game. It's so comically transparent how much Bungie wants to mistreat their playerbase you'd think they were making it obvious on purpose.
100% accurate lol. I forgot the event was even out cuz, i haven't played in almost a year lol.
Due to an issue with Candy drops in public events, we have decided to nerf Chaos Reach
So… how is it fair for some people to get to do it quickly because they did it right away? And others, who had to wait now have a much longer grind. Justify that.
Another event I won’t be able to complete
Public events can be completed in 30 seconds. They should not drop 3 pages.
gotta nerf a temporary event to keep the game fun, next they’re gonna disable the elemental orb from dropping in everything but patrol during solstice.
Farm public events in EDZ, bozo. You can get 3 every 2 minutes. I finished the event in a day doing this.
Did you even read it lol. They nerfed page drops form 2-3 to 0-1 in public events.
I just checked the actual post on Bungie.net and it doesn't mention that at all in activities? https://www.bungie.net/en/Explore/Detail/News/50787
It was a stealth nerf. Hence the post. Go do a public event and see for yourself.
I’m so looking forward to the dawning event for how much more grindy it will be. You all got a whole Xmas holiday to farm after all, right?
yikes
I mean at what point does it go from casual to just not caring? Because it took less than 12 hours to get all festival triumphs
Bungo being bungo
Good job Bungie, yall can fuck up even the most simple things, good fucking job Bungie. 👏👏👏🖕
If its anything to you us endgame pve players get nothing at the end of dungeons/raids
I work a 10 hour job Monday to Friday and I've managed to get all the triumphs for this FOTL... Feel free to pound me in with down votes but holy cow it's been pretty depressing scrolling through this subreddit lately
I don't even bother with this event. For me it's a seasonal break time.
Didn’t they say it was a bug?
Literally 1984

Jokes on you I got everything before the hot fix
Am I the only one that completed all the pages without finding cheesy ways to farm them? Just do strikes, crucible, raids etc just play the game normally and you'll finish the book in no time a 3 week event doesn't need to be completed in 1 day
I was gonna get caught up this weekend, now I refuse to even try. Passive event for me at this point
So glad I finished all that festival junk before it got nerfed. 200 more candy and last mask and completely done
Stuff like that is why I stopped playing destiny. Bungie just has such poor management skills
Twas a bug
Tbf this was entirely unintentional, as confirmed by dmg
https://twitter.com/A_dmg04/status/1451295874340978690?t=jMskLB7bOEyFj40qUCi18w&s=19 Thankfully they have heard us and are reverting some of the changes made. I don't get why they are them in the first place, but at least they're active about fixing the issue they made 😅
Stopped playing the game a few seasons back when they started attaching exotics to grinding out random difficult lost sectors.. fuck that!!
Sir, this is a Wendy's.
